Sound & picture drop outs

Good day...
I was videoing a friends wedding & had 2 cams going. I have imported the tapes but one of the tapes has drop outs os sound & picture. It doesnt show when viewing onth ecamera or TV just when importing. I am using one camera to import both tapes. 1 is fine & the other has problems (although it plays fine on th ecam & tv).
Any thoughts. I have done a few before without prob. The souns was set at 16bit on both cams.

  Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the quick reply...
1. Identical cameras?
no Canon Elura 20 & Canon ZR80
2. Identical brand of camera tape?
yes
3. Has either of the tapes been used before, or were
they in both cases virgin recordings?
no, both new tapes (good point)
4. Were the tapes properly time-coded before
recording commenced?
not sure what you mean my time coding the tapes.
Using iMove, not sure if time codes would be an issue.
But why would the tape in question play perfect on the cam (while importing) yet stagger on the screen (real time)? The other tape was fine.
Do I have to import with the orig cam it was recorded with? I wouldnt think so as it plays perfect on this cam.
thx

  • DVD Picture Drops Out At End of Video

I burned a lengthy 1 hour 30 minute video to DVD. The project was edited in Avid Xpress Pro, then imported into iMovie to add chapter markers before being imported to iDVD.
The burn, like many I have done in the past, was successful. The DVD even plays fine in my set top player until it gets to the last 5-10 minutes of video. At that point, there is major pixelation, freezing, and picture drop-outs.
I've edited shorter video pieces in Avid and imported to iMovie with no problems until now, so I'm thinking that it has something to do with the video length.
Any suggestions? I was thinking of taking the project to a G5 and burning it there.

    The length should be fine.
    Chapter markers? If so:
Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline. Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition. Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.

Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Disk Utility to burn the DVD.
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (not the .img, the one below) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. Your SuperDrive tray will open. Insert a recordable DVD. (DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and Tiger.
b Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

Ok, if you are connecting the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to the existing wireless network, then the DSL in the next room is most likely a combination DSL modem and wireless router. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Although they may only be separated by a single wall, the building material used in that wall may be enough to prevent the AX from receving a "good" signal from the DSL router.
Since I don't know what computing equipment you have available, please check out this AirPort User Tip: AirPort - Optimal Base Station Placement to see if you can get some SNR measurements at the location of your AX. To do this properly, you will want to power-off the AX and only get these measurements for the DSL router.

  • Having Problems with Picture Drop Out

I've upgraded to the latest version of AppleTV and most of my problems have been corrected except one: I still get intermittent picture drop out. In other words, the TV screen just suddenly goes black for a second or two and then comes back on. This happens approximately every minute or two. It is not a problem if I'm just listening to music, but it is preventing me from renting any movies.
    Any suggestions?

Well, I'll give that a try. The only reason I don't think that is the answer is that the problem started happening only after I downloaded the 2. version of the software. I had no problem before, which, to me, discounts that it is a cable issue. But I'll give it a try, or maybe try component out instead.

  • Sound keeps dropping out every 40 seconds

My sound was totally fine after Lion update but today no matter what program or internet site that has audio, the sound drops out for about a second every 30-40 seconds on my imac 27". This happens again with itunes, youtube, internet videos etc. I tried resetting the PRAM but no change. I have my imac plugged into an optical cable into my logitech 5500 surround system. Any body else having paused/dropouts intheir audio? Its very frustrating cause its almost as if someone is hitting the paus button on and off every few seconds.

For some strange reason the optical cable from the imac to the speakers has a problem. I replaced it with another one and no more sound issues and everything is fine. I thought optical cables never go bad unless kinked and mine was clearly not. Whatever, everything is made junky these days and nothing lasts.

  • Why does the sound keep dropping out?

Can someone explain to me in very simple terms how to fix my Airport Express so that it doesn't keep dropping the sound when I'm playing iTunes. About every minute to a minute and a half, the sound drops out for a second or two. It is very annoying. I have checked the communities, but none of the recommended fixes are making any sense to me. One suggested that it was the internet speed, so I actually upgraded my internet yesterday to a faster speed, but I am still running into this issue.
I am using a PC. I am playing iTunes wirelessly. The distance between my router, my computer, and the Airport Express shouldn't be an issue; they are relatively close together. I have had no other issues with my wireless. My Blu-ray player is able to access the internet wirelessly and stream movies with no problem, so I don't understand why I am having such an issue with streaming music.
I love the concept of the Airport Express, but I am ready to take it back to the store for a refund.

Thanks for your reply. Both my AEX and my router are set to the same channel (6). (From what I understand, they need to be set to the same channel for it to run through WiFi, right?) When I run a scan, nothing else in the area is set to that channel, so I don't think there should be any interference.
I went through the rest of the settings, and they all seem to be correct. I'm not sure how to check if it is set as a client only, but it is set for airplay and I didn't set it up to extend the network. I verified that it is set to "join a wireless network," not "extend a wireless network."
The signal I am getting from my router is at 100%, so I thought I'd give it another try after verifying everything. It still drops out. I timed the drop-outs this time, and it is actually happening literally every minute, almost to the second.
I think I might be heading back to the store for a refund later today unless I get some other suggestions on what will fix this issue. If the drop-outs happened every 20 minutes, even every 10 minutes, I could put up with it, but every minute is unacceptable.

  • Picture Drop-Out/Pixelation

I've been using my AppleTV on my old CRT TV using a signal convertor but now I've got a new flatsceen TV. I've not watched any movies the but when watching trailers I get a lot of pixelation-drop-out? could this be due to streaming over the net, any ideas?

i'm not sure you would get what you describe when having streaming issues. usually what would happen is that the playback would simply stop until enough had been cached again.
what trailers have you been watching ? SD or HD ?
the easiest way to test if it is the device or not is to sync something to the appletv and see if the same happens.

  • PLEASE tell me how to prevent sound from dropping out

I got a new G4 and every time I try recording guitar through GB, the sound cuts out 25 seconds in. I have tried all the hints from the GB help page on optimizing performance. I am using the Glam and Modern Rock sounds. This really *****. Please help?

I have the input set up through the USB device but am
using the internal speakers as the audio output.
And that, as Chrostph alluded to, is the problem:

  • Sound Dropping Out in Monitors and Timeline (R3D and .wav files in 5.5) - More RAM Needed?

    Hi there,
I have an HP desktop that I’ve edited two feature films on, the first shot on the HVX200 (edited with CS4) and the second shot on the Canon 5D (edited with CS5). About to edit a new feature, shot at 4K on the Red Scarlet, using CS5.5.
I THINK I know what needs to happen here, but basically, at anything higher than 1/8 resolution, the footage is playing back slow, and then, when I synch up with my .wav sound files, the sound is dropping out after a second (unless I scale to frame in the timeline only, in which case the render bar goes from red to yellow and the sound remains, even if the picture is still choppy). Basically married image and sound will not play back properly unrendered.
So, I guess what I’m asking is: does this sound like a RAM issue? Should I go for 16? I currently have 8. There’s a lot going on on this computer. (Specs are below.)
One final question, albeit a more minor one: why does the frame Fit properly in the Source Monitor but need a Scale to Fit instruction every time to fill the Project Monitor? Is there a way to make an entire Sequence Scale to Fit permanently?
Again, my computer specs are below.
    Thanks!

    8.0 GB Physical Memory
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (64-bit)
    Service Pack 2
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (recently updated)
512 MB Memory (since updated to CS5.5 specifications)

There is still not enough ram in the listed PC, and the 530 is a poor choice. Nvidia list the memory type as DDR3, where you want a card with DDR5. You can get a suitable system for close to the price that is listed. You want to look at Harms hardware guide, and likely shop a custom builder.
    You want
    CoreI7 or high end I5
Minimum 12 gb memory for HD editing
Minimum 2 physical drives (system & media)
gtx card with at least 1gb ddr5 memory.( I would shop for more memory for 4K footage ) The more CUDA core, the better.
I spent a little more than you or I really wanted to spend on my CS5.5 box $1400 However it works brilliantly.
    Core I5 2500k
    16gb memory
    2x 74GB 10K raptor drives raid0 system drives
    2TB media drive
    GTX 560Ti 1GB with 384 CUDA cores.
You could shave this system down to under $1k for something that works great.
The GTX555 seems like the base level card to me. A GT or lower spec card  might be a gamble.
Look at gamer machine builders rather than prebuilt desktops. They let you choose parts. That is where to start shopping.

  • Sound drop out when exporting to Quicktime movie.

One track of three sound tracks drops out after a few seconds then reappears a few seconds later when exporting to QT Movie. The project functions perfectly when printing to video. Am using QT 7.1.3 FCE HD 3

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Try to make an "audio-mixdown" of your final sequence
    in timeline.
    Michel Boissonneault
Thanks for the info. I managed to overcome the problem initially by copying onto miniDV then re-capturing and exporting the result., but Mix Down is much nicer.
However, prior to upgrading to FCE-HD, I am fairly certain I have made more complex projects with no problems. Now quite frequently I get a message suggesting I reduce the number of RT tracks, or increase the speed of my computer. Is there something in FCE HD that requires these modifications, or have I a rogue project.
Does anyone know what is the actual difference between High Medium & Low qualities with Audio & Video?
    Thanks
    Roy

  • Airport express streaming audion drop out is unacceptable

The only reason I bought the airport express is because apple discontinued the old Apple TV mk1 - which had an analogue audio out port.
The comments on this group seem to always suggest the following (1) Don't extend a wireless group (2) Don't join a WDS (3) Upgrade firmware (4) choose a less congested channel (4) swing a dead cat around 12 times at midnight.
    So the configuratioon
MAC BOOK PRO Snow leopard 10.6.4 -- 2.6Ghx INTEL Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667 Mhz DDR SDRAM
    2 Airport Extremes [7.4.2]
    1 Airport Express [7.4.2]
1 Time Capsule [7.5.1] (making a total of 3 Airport Extremes)
    iTunes 10.0.1 (22)
MAC BOOK PRO disk checks out perfectly - format structure, file structure and hard disk sectors.
All Airport devices are at the latest firmware revision.
no WDS - each Airport Extreme "Creates A Wireless Network" - but uses the Time Capsule for DNS.
THE AIRPORT EXPRESS IS SET TO "NO WIRELESS"
The connection to the Airport Express is 100BaseTX via an intelligent router.
So - basically - NO WIRELESS CONNECTION to the Airport Express from the MAC BOOK.
MAC BOOK PRO -> (100BaseTX) Intelligent Cisco Router -> (100BaseTX) Airport Express
Every 4 or 5 minutes the sound will drop out for a second or so - right in the middle of a song.
The Airport Express has even been configured for NO WIRELESS.
Streaming Netflix to the TV makes no difference to the time between audio drop out - which suggest that the network is more than capable of handling the traffic.
Netflix also streams perfectly to the iPad (Wireless)
Network utilization is negligible. Network reliability seems excellent : 90M Sent packets, 70M Recv Packets ZERO errors ZERO collisions.
I noticed that when I use the iPad for remote control (V2) of iTunes on the MAC BOOK PRO - the drop out is worse (even when the iPad is not doing anything other than, I suppose answering a few "are you still there" inquiries). Interestingly, even with the iPad connected - but - control of iTunes from the Keyboard - the interval between drop outs is significantly greater.
I have not yet tried streaming the AppleTV Mk1 to the Airport Express - my bet is that it will stream perfectly.
It amazing that Netflix can stream perfect video and sound over a 20Mb internet connection (using the same Extreme as the primary DNS ie attached to the Time-Warner modem) and yet Apple cant even get consistent audio in a hard wired 100Mb intranet.
At the low data rates for streaming Audio - finding way to configure the Airport Express to effectively improve its response time hint at a significantly larger issue ie (a) iTunes not running at a sufficiently high priority (b) Small Internal buffer in the Airport Express (c) my guess both (a) and (b)
iTunes is set to "Large Buffer".
I have not yet tried 'nice'ing up the priority of any iTunes processes - as I've gone back to having the house Audio driven by my old reliable Apple TV Mk1.
If Apple cant even get Audio Streaming working properly - I don't hold out much hope for the AppleTV Mk2 (hopefully it has a seriously large buffer to compensate for the pre-emptive scheduling of MAC OS) - This may be one example of Windows being a better streaming Audio Platform that MAC OS.
Given all this information - other than "kill all the processes running on the MAC" - which completely defeats the purpose - that is to say - I had a perfectly great Streaming Audio "Appliance" (the Mk1 AppleTV) - now I'm being forced to use a GP Computer with all the inherent problems of reliability.
    Any suggestions ?

No, in fact I abandoned it. Then I tried it again today, (hoping the various iTunes updates would help) it was better ... But after 15 minutes the audio dropped out again. However, my concerns about the apple tv2 were unfounded.

  • Audio dropping out on videos

my daughters toshiba laptop will play videos but the sound keeps dropping out and the only remedy she has is to refresh the page, whereupon the audio resumes exactly where it left off. This doesn't solve the problem, however, and she is getting heartily sick of spending hours watching a dislocated short video.Any help would be appreciated. This has been happening for months...she is a patient person.

Moved to the Using Flash Player forum as this is not specific to the latest Flash Player beta.  Someone here will be able to help you, but I'll get you started.
We'll need some additional information in order to figure out what is going on.  There are a lot of possible reasons that this might be happening.  Complete answers to the questions and troubleshooting steps below will allow us to isloate the root-cause (and there's a good chance you'll end up fixing it as you work through the steps).
    Basic Troubleshooting Info
To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    - Operating system
    - Browser
    - Flash Player version - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
The first step is to work through the video troubleshooting guide for your operating system, here:
    - Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html
    - Mac - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.htm
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details.  Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    - Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Windows_users
    - Mac - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Mac_OS_users
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify this by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the menu.

  • Audio Drop Outs Last Night on "Goldmember" in HD

Hello Techies,  All in all, seeing as I was the chump who had to shell out $600 to get the first gen DirecTV dishes, FiOS is absolutely awesome. I have 2 HD STBs and 1 HD DVR, all Motorola. I have been a devoted FiOS fan since. The HD STB is the QIP 6416-2, the other two STB's are vintage 2009 w/HDMI. Every piece of AV gear in my home is Sony (ES when available), the TV giving me the trouble is the one watched the most, so I can't be sure if these issues are plaguing the other two Sony XBR's or not. The TV that lost the sound intermittently last night while "Goldmember" was playing in HD is a pre-1080p Sony, a KV32HS510, which is a tube type set with the 1080i DVI HD input. During "Goldmember" the sound would drop out for approx 5-7 seconds, then come back on. This occurred for the 70 or so minutes I was watching it. Did anyone else have this same problem? Not to muddy the issue, but very infrequently the screen will turn to a white snowy granulated appearance, but the audio will be unaffected. I simply reboot the STB and everything returns to normal. I was also getting some image pixelation during the last HD showing of "Clash Of The Titans" as well. The TV/STB combo that is exhibiting these problems is the duo furthest from the FiOS router. None of these issues are all that important, but I have checked for loose connections, gone over my TV and STB settings to verify nothing had changed, and all seems well. Any ideas from the Tech Gurus would be most appreciated.  FiOS rating IMHO, out of a possible 100 = 99.  P.S. I've been at this high end audio and PC stuff for a long time, ( anyone remember MS-DOS, and the sanity testing WFW 3.11?), so please don't hesitate throwing some ideas around involving intricate fixes.  Thanks In Advance, Apologies For The Verbosity... Mac

While it was playing did you test the channel on other TV's in your house? Also have you had other audio dropouts on that or other channels?

  • Troubling connection with iTunes (I have to jiggle the cable), and my volume bar drops out very often.

Whenever I am syncing my iPhone 4 (with iOS 6.1.3) via cable with iTunes, I have to jiggle the cable to get it to connect with iTunes. Also, whenever I'm listening to any kind of sound, sometimes the sound just drops out and the volume bar disappears.
I asked an Apple tech in the store, and he told me to restore the phone and set up as new phone. I have done this with no success. Any suggestions

  • Multicast Channels Sound Drop Outs / Picture Pixel...

Had this issue for months now and its totally unique to broadband channels.  Its been a problem since leaving sky and joining BT in august.
Had around 5 engineers out who all say "Im the wrong type of engineer for this job, all i can do is check your broadband"
Sound just randomly drops out and picture quality on ondemand such as kids is getting noticeably worse.
Im on BT Infinity and get 79Mb DL which im told has no errors whenever an engineer checks however the guys on the phone tell me they can see my line is losing packets.  line correction has been applied and my speed was halved to 35Mb! This did NOT fix the problem.
Watching channel 4 HD at the mo and if im being honest its like the kids have the remote and keep pushing Mute.
Had a REIN test and nothing is interfereing
Im at the end of my tether
Oh and Both Box AND router have been swapped out
Its a Black BT Vision Box and BT Home Hub 4
Anyone had this issue and got it fixed?

I wonder if the issue might lie with the HH4. Do you have an HH3 to hand or could you borrow one to try?
I know that is not very helpful. The only other thing might be to swap to a YouView box.
I assume you have tried different ports in the HH4?
