Sound/Playback Stops Suddenly in Windows Vi

I have recently encountered a very strange problem with my computer: the sound/playback stops working randomly. For instance, let's say I've just rebooted my computer and have launched WMP to play some mp3s. It will work fine for anywhere from a day or two to, at minimum, a few minutes...and then, once an mp3 file finishes playing, sometimes I will hear a weird sort of "squeak" coming from the speakers--after which playback will not work--but even if I do not hear any sort of strange audio, if I click another file to play...WMP will load the media, but will not play it. The play button will switch to pause as normal, but the file will not play. The exact same thing happens in *other* media players, as well: iTunes, J. Ri'ver Media Center...even WinAMP. I have a SoundBlast X-Fi Platinum audio card, and have been running it under Windows Vista Home Premium since January with no problems. I have all the current Vista drivers installed for it, and *have* had them installed for months. I'm really not sure whether this problem is software- or hardware-related, hence the reason I'm crossposting this to?Microsoft's Vista?forums as well. What should my next step be? I'm not really sure where to go from here. Thank you!?Dere C. F. Pegritz

I have the same problem here too. Vista Ultimate 64bit4Gb RamX-fi Extreme Gamer Pro?Currently have to re-boot when it happens. I have just installed the new drivers (30 May) - I will see if this has any effect!?RegardsBrian.

    When playing out a sequence to Kipro in Premier CS6, the playback stops when the Window's Display goes to sleep. I cannot currently change this setting since our IT department controls it. Is there a way to change this in Premier or do I need to have IT give us the ability to change when the Window's display sleeps?

  • Sound randomly stops working in Windows 8

    I have a new HP PC and the sound randomly stops working.  When the sound stops, it stops in all applications:  iTunes, Web Browser, etc.
    PC DETAILS:
    HP Omni 27 all-in-one desktop
    Windows 8 Pro
    In Device Manager, under Sound, this is what I have:
    - AVerMedia H334 MiniCard Hybrid ATSC/QAM
    - Bluetooth Audio Device
    - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
    I just set up this new pc this week and I have run all the windows  and drivers updates so everything is up to date.
    When I boot up the pc, the sound works fine for a while and then randomly stops working.  For example, if I play music in iTunes 11, the latest version, it may play for 1 minute or it may play for 10 minutes and then it just randomly stops playing sound and the sound will not come back until I reboot and the same thing happens all over again.
    I have searched this online and I found quite a few people posting similar sound issues with Windows 8, but I have not found a fix for this problem yet.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I do not understand that; if it's not installed, it cannot possibly be enabled.

  • Sound has stopped working on hp dv6 windows 7

    i was using my hp dv6 laptop which runs on windows 7, when the sound just stopped suddenly. i unplugged my speaker and when i did it the sound coming through the speaker was like a clicking, as if the sound is lagging or something. ive tried everything i can think of including searching for driver updates of which there arent any because im up to date. so i tried rolling back and that didnt work so updated again and still doesnt work..please help me. ive only had the laptop for a couple of weeks and it hasnt been abused or anything. i just dont understand it at all and dont want to pay a fortune for some1 to fix it, please help!

    Is the external speakers are working fine, and internal speakers has cracking sound - i suspect it to be speaker hardware related issue. you may need to report this ti HO technical support and have the unit serviced if needed.
    If none or the speakers work or just external does not work, you can troubleshoot issues related to internal/external audio switching from the link below.

  • After about 30 seconds, my sound is stopping during playback.

    I've tried to export my video for use on Computers, but everytime I do, the playback stops after about 30 seconds of playing no matter if I start from the beginning of the video, or click ahead to start from the middle on Windows Media Player. I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 12. Please help me figure this out - it is so frustrating.

    KMB418
    What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 installed on?
    Before export, how does the Timeline play back in the Edit area monitor (video and audio)?
    What is your export - mp4, .mov, wmv, flv, .avi etc....? Have you tried other players, like the VLC player?
    But, let us start at the beginning....
    What are the properties of your source media? What is the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the source?
    How are you getting that source into the Premiere Elements project and what are you or the program setting as the project preset. See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if they look grayed out).
    The project preset description should match the properties of your source.
    Now for the export...what are you selecting under Publish+Share/assumed Computer/. And what are you setting as the preset for your choice? Are you using the default settings for the preset or are you customizing them under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab?
    Please supply more details. If any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks.

  • HP2600n suddenly stopped printing in Windows 7 system 64-bit--why? No error mes, no system changes

    After two months, HP2600n suddenly stopped printing in Windows 7 system 64-bit--why?  No error mes, no system changes.
    I tried reinstalling the drivers, changing USB ports and cables, printing from Notepad, and disconnecting the  printer.
    My computer will not let me uninstall the driver software, and I tried downloading the software upgrade to do that.
    Printer works with computer running XP.
    I am guessing that I need a driver upgrade.
    Which one?
    Thanks, whoever!

    Which version of the tool box are you using?Mine would not open after installting updates but after installating the latest version its working fine

  • [solved] video playback stops when I move any window in xfce

    Hello,
    when I view a video with xine or mplayer and I move/resize any window the video playback stops.
    In xine the audio still plays, in mplayer video and audio stops.
    When I stop moving or resizing the window the playback continues.
    Is this normal in xfce or xorg in general ?
    Do other desktop environments handle this without stopping the video playback ?
    How does it work on your systems ?
    I am using the "nvidia" driver (geforce m 8600 gt - notebook). I haven't tested it with "nv".

    ok, there is a setting for hiding a windows content on resizing for moving.
    I thought this would just apply to the window I resize and not to all windows on the desktop.
    Unmarking those did fix my problem.

  • Satellite C650 sound has stopped working

    I've had my laptop for about 6months and have had no problems with the sound until now.
    I have recently done a windows update and a few hours after my sound has stopped working completely.
    I have updated the driver (Conexant Cx20671 smart audio hd) after that failed i un-installed and reinstalled the driver off the toshiba downloads, after restarting again no sound.
    When i have media player on, the sound mixer recognizes there is something playing but there is no sound coming out the speakers
    _*please can someone help!!!*_

    Ok, this means that the sound driver is OK.
    Please go to the control panel -> sound -> Playback tab
    Here you have to check if the speakers are set as default device.
    Furthermore mark the speakers and click on settings button.
    There you can also check the volume level.

  • Audigy SE sound randomly stop

    So I got this card and installed it and the drivers and everything worked swimmingly. Then, all of a sudden, my sound just stops working. Seriously - just stopped. I immediately checked to see if i muted anything or any of that jazz, and nothing was muted. I ran the diagnostics test and and said everything was fine! I un-installed and re-installed the drivers - didn't help. I "repaired" the drivers - nada. Then during one of my reboots I got the blue screen of death! Cool. I restarted again and windows successfully loaded so i decided to disable the Sound Blaster card and go back to my onboard sound - just to make sure THAT, atleast, works. It worked fine, and so i decided to enable sound blaster - disable onboard - and reinstall the drivers. And that didn't work.
    I've contacted tech support but apparently that takes a hot 24 hours and I'd like to return this card TODAY if it's defecti've...

    $ Did you get a solution on this issue, I'm having the same, even formated/reimaged from XP to SEVEN, and it worked at the beggining of the installation, it has stopped working just now. The weird thing is that it sounds perfectly in my linux install :angry: ... I only use windows for sound/related task, I'm a musician.

  • Playback stops after about 15 - 20 frames

    This is a problem that I also have in cs4.  I hit the space bar, after about 15 - 20 frames it stops.  Looking at the task manager CPU utilization goes from about 4% to 100% and then playback stops.
    System is an intel dual core running at 2.13 I think.  Had 4 gig of memory now up to 8 gig.  has 150 gig system drive, and a 600 gig dual drive raid 0 array for work in progress.  Long term storage is on usb drives.  System was running xp sp3 now windows 7 x64.  Video card just upgraded to a new nvidia card.
    System also has black magic intensity.  Problem started quite a while ago before the recent upgrades.  If cpu stays below 100% system works fine.  Load in some effects and bang 100% cpu and it stops.  Does not seem to matter what type of file.  I use dv video (avi type 2), or hdv.  As long as I am below 100% it works fine.  Hits 100% and stops.  I could understand it stuttering if the cores are both at 100, but why stop?
    Motherboard is an intel dg965wh.  Audio is a function of what the system is doing, has onboard audio, usb audio and black magic audio.  One other annoying bug if the blackmagic card is set as the video out, that is the only p[lace audio will come out no matter what the hardware settings.
    I am running out of brilliant and stupid ideas at this point and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Ken

    Ignoring the Intensity card for a second, if you're running PPro on its own, this symptom is usually one of two possibilities:
    - bad display drivers (don't assume that Win7 will download the correct ones, go get the sanctioned 197.x drivers from the nVidia site)
    - bad audio drivers.  If you have the 'right' drivers for your system, try downloading the 'Asio4All' set (google around on this forum for other posts on this topic).
    I would probably remove the Intensity card & uninstall its drivers, troubleshoot the above, then when it's playing correctly, add back the Intensity card.  The card is the other factor that could be playing into this (for instance, their own sound driver options could be the trigger here), but I'm not sure what to offer for Black Magic troubleshooting suggestions.

  • DV9999us Sound Hardware stopped working for no reason

    This is my first time ever posting to a thread, so if I do a poor job explaining myself, I apologize.
    I have an hp dv 9999US laptop which months ago I upgraded to Win7-64 Pro.
    I had no problems until a few weeks ago, where all of a sudden one day my sound card stopped responding. The soft touch keys above the keyboard became unresponsive and there was a red "x" next to the speaker icon in the taskbar. If I click on it, I get a "not responding/wait/close" dialogue box. And under Device manager I have no listing for a "Sound, video, and game controllers." Sometimes Device manager shows a device listed as "Co-Processor" with a yellow exclamation after it, but when I try to install a driver for it windows is unable to find one.
    Also, when I try and install the driver for my sound card ( when it's not detected in DM) i get a code 10 error that the hardware is not responsive, or something to that effect.
    However, sometimes everything works fine. The soft touch keys are responsive, my conexant sound card displays in Device manager, and the volume settings in the taskbar are functional.
    I have NO idea what is causing this, but I've tried just about every driver I can find that's compatible with my integrated sound card.
    I've done some forum reading, and one thing people suggest is to make sure that the Microsoft UAA bus driver, but I'm a little hesitant to start installing random drivers without knowing what they'll do.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and any additional information you need will be almost instantly provided.
    Thank you in advance
    Mike

  • Sound playback: no sound, abnormally high bitrate.

    I've been reading up on using JMF for simple sound playback all day, and I've seen countless examples that do the same thing I'm doing, but in every instance, I get absolute silence. Additionally, it seems that the read bitrate is higher than it should be, according to the control panel's properties dialog (e.g., 480Kbps for a 192Kbps mp3).
    The code always goes something simple like this:
        Player player = null;
        try {
          MediaLocator ml = new MediaLocator(new File("BGM.mp3").toURL());
          player = Manager.createPlayer(ml);
        catch (Exception e) { System.err.println("BGM messed up"); }
        if (player != null) {
          player.addControllerListener(p);
          player.start(); //this does realize and prefetch
        }I put some debug output statements in my controllerUpdate function, and it is indeed realizing, prefetching, and starting playback of the file. I have tried this with both wav's and mp3s (I have the mp3 plugin installed in addition to the JMF 2.1.1e itself), and have always gotten the same result - MediaTime progresses too fast, roughly 2.5 times faster than it should (5 seconds for every 2 real seconds), and I get no sound.
    At this point, after having tried at least 2 examples found online in addition to my own code, I'm convinced there's something up with my Java runtime in itself, not just my code... anyone have any experience with this kind of problem?
    System Info:
    OS: Windows XP Pro SP1
    Java Version: 1.5.0_02
    JMF Version: 2.1.1e (zip version [no performance pack], with mp3plugin added)
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Do you use it in an Applet ?
    I'm also unable to play any sound with Java(TM) Plug-in 1.5.xx the
    plugin to all browsers nowadays.
    You mentioned you used it on Windows 98 SE.
    The old IE browser used the build in javaVM. It worked - just look at
    the java consol and you see a lot of warnings and errors -, but in the
    end it played video and sound.
    The only solution I found is to use Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.xx. The
    'automatic search for update' box must not be checked, otherwise it
    will update to the newest Plugin and you face the same problem. If you
    want to place an applet on your homepage, just use video only - until
    now it works correctly on ALL PLATFORMS.
    There was a Bug Report 6245070 where I was asked as well to give an
    example a year ago, but this was all - no response at all. In this
    applets I used
    Content Type : video.quicktime
    Video Encoding : h263
    Audio Encoding : ULAW
    not even mpg3!!
    I tried to compile the whole JMF Version: 2.1.1e with J2SE 5.0 and
    Standard Edition 6 Beta. At one version I changed all the
    inconviences like the reserved words "enum" ..., and an other version
    with old style, which is possible with Standard Edition 6 Beta.
    It seem's the problem is not in the part you are able to compile. It
    seems to me it is in the sound.jar api, but I really don't know - just
    trail and error.
    Conclusion only JRE lower and until version 1.4.xx will work.
    It would be a pleasure to me if I'm wrong and there is a solution.
