Sound porblem in FCE4.0.1

I have a six sequence project 'nested' in the Timeline of that FCE4.0.1 project. When the sequences are opened, one at a time, the music tracks play just fine. When seq 4 is opened, rather than stay nested, the music track often, but not always, suddenly drops in volume. Then a bit further on it regains the lost volume. So - each sequence opened - all OK, when nested, one music track, often, has a sudden drop. Can anyone solve this for me? Perhaps relay the whole piece of the music.

Try Mixing Down the audio.
It's in the Sequence cascade menu.

  • Sequence doesn't play the sound.. help?

    Hey..
I've just got FCE4 and I've encountered some problems. I've managed to overcome the "Not Rendered" issue, but now while I play the imported video already on the timeline, on the canvas, no sound is played. Not from the .dv files, and not from the mp3 file I just imported... This is a pain in the bottom, because I'm trying to make a narrational clip (like a review, you know) and without sound, I can't even start really editing what I want to do..
is there a solution to this?
    thanks

And for sound.. I'm making stuff in GarageBand 08.. I can export to mp3 and aac.. or something else? maybe direct input into FCE from GB08? if not, is there a program that converts these to to AIFF?

  • No sounds while calling without using the loudspeaker

    Hello,
When i do a telephone call , i can't understand anything because the sound is so low. If i call via the loud speakers, the sound is clear and good.
    What is the problem ?
Is it a Hardware or a software Porblem ?
    Greetings

In the class CL_HRASR00_WF_PROCESS_OBJECT itself you have a static method RAISE EVENT by using that method you can trigger hte event of the same class. I think there is no need of using any other FM or class methods.
In the report WF_A call the method RASIE_EVENT of the class CL_HRASR00_WF_PROCESS_OBJECT by passing the appropriate values this will resolve the issue.

  • Exporting from imovie to fce4

I purchased a new camera that sadly wasn't compatible with Mac. The only way to import videos from that camera was throught iMovie. So when I edit the first parts of my videos in iMovie the quality is great but then when I export the video to finish it in FCE4 the video shrinks for some reason, then I resize it and the quality is bad. I relize I could keep the video small but that is not what I want. All I want is for the video to not shrink when I export it to FCE4.

Please provide info about the camera and the actual footage it shot.
Also the Sequence setting in FCE.
Sounds like you may have used the iMovie space saving codec that is not compatible with standard video sizes for FCE??

  • ADVC110 and FCE4

I'm new to all of this video editing stuff, but basically I'm looking to convert all of the home movies my dad has made over the years to a digital format, edit them with FCE then burn them to a DVD to send to family members, etc.
Is this a good solution? Most of the reviews I've read on the ADVC110 and FCE4 have been mixed. Some people claim they have no problems while others say they could never get the 2 to work properly.
Or if anyone has any other solutions, I wouldn't mind reading them..

    FCE may be "overkill".
Look at the Canopus ADVC300. Audio and Video go in, FireWire comes out. It also comes with a nice Macintosh application that works flawlessly with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 (I have used it a few times with iMovie 09 and FCE). The software that comes with the Canopus ADVC300 has some incredible filters that can improve the picture as well as the sound. I sometimes use it to reduce the background "hiss" found in some tapes. Well worth the price. The ADVC110 comes with no software.
    http://www.canopus.com/products/ADVC300/index.php
Your primary workflow is editing DV clips and making DVDs, iMovie '06 may be better suited. Your movie will arrive at iDVD in DV format, which is an ideal match for making a DVD: same resolution, same pixels, same aspect ratio, and original quality. If you share your movie from iMovie '08 / 09, it gets re-rendered at 640x480 or less, and then iDVD upscales it back to 720x480. The end result is obviously not as good.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 is a "lossless" combination.
You can use FCE to do all of this, but to convert VHS home movies I would just use iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09.

  • FCE4 - can I convert HD footage to Standard Definition to put on a DVD

My Panasonic HD camcorder will only record in HD, with no option for Standard Def.
Can FCE4 convert HD footage so I can convert it as if SD and then transfer to DVD (rather than Bluray Disc).
    Many thanks
    Matt

You say that when you tried iDVD earlier you got jerky footage.
This sounds rather like the problem I discovered 18 months ago with my HDV camera.
Still shots were reck solid but any subject or camera movement (panning) resulted in unacceptable judder and shimmer.
There are 2 workarounds I eventually came across.
    1. Use your camera to down-convert to DV-PAL as you capture and edit it as DV. However, if your camera can't down-convert you will have to use method 2.
    2. Edit your AIC in the timeline. Then create a new DV-PAL (NTSC) Anamorphic sequence. Copy your edited HDV/AIC to the new sequence. Do not alter anything. Render the sequence ..... this will take a long time - up to twice the length of the project. Then File>Export>QuickTime Movie (Not Self-contained).
However, if you use the QT Movie in iDVD you will get a squashed 4:3 movie, so first of all you must make QT stretch it out to its proper 16:9 dimensions like this:-
    a. Open the exported movie file in the QT Pro player.
    b. Go to Window>Show Movie Properties.
    c. Select the "Video Track" and in the "Visual Settings" panel uncheck "Preserve Aspect Ratio".
    d. In the "Scaled Size" box set the width to 1024 pixels for PAL.
    e. The "Video Track" will have turned grey, so click it to make it blue again.
    f. The opened movie file will jump to 16:9.
    g. Close it with the red button and click Save.
If you haven't got QT Pro you may be able to export using QT Conversion to DV-PAL, changing the output size to 1024x576.

  • FCE4   Many problems

#1 When I import an XML file from iMovie 08, If I try to playback the video and audio at the same time its tells me I have dropped X amount of frames and freezes. If I mute the audio tracks the video plays back with no problems.
#2 If I import directly from the camera Via Firewire the video is jumping while capturing and then when I go to playback the video is running at twice the speed as the audio, then after a few moments it once again freezes due to dropped frames.
    Steps that I have done.
Spoke with one of the Mac techs at an Apple store andthey have never seen a system do this.
Reloaded Quicktime, and FCE4 and still the same problems.
    Live Type Problems:
I built a 4 layer typeset that had a duration of 10 seconds...It will render a preview but when I render a movie it will lock up and say I don't have enough memory. I have 2 gig of ram and 119 gig of free HD space (firewire external)

    1. What format was the project that you exported from iMovie? What do the render indicates show in the timeline?
    2. Sounds like a hardware problem. Could you give complete details of your system, camera, format, and settings used?
    3. Sounds like a RAM problem, may be related to 2.

  • SD reader on new 27" i-mac OK for video importing? + FCE4 vs 3.5?

I just ordered a new i-mac (my first btw!) and am trying to figure out a few things. Mac won't get here for a couple of weeks since I upgraded the ram and video card, so I can't test my questions yet.
I want to shoot some simple "how to" instructional vids for some motorcycle parts I sell. I will host them via You-Tube. I plan to use the Video function of my DSLR Canon T1i (500D) which shoots Full HD video at 1920 x 1080 resolution with HDMI output for HD viewing of stills and video in MOV format. I saw a few comments in the 27" i-mac reviews section suggesting that the SD format was having issues with importing of video to FCE.
I am considering FCE 4 for video editing, however there are quite a few reviews that suggest FCE 3.5 may be a better app if I can find it. (several new in box copies on e-bay now for good prices)
Main concerns I noted were that FCE 4 no longer includes Soundtrack 1.2, but it does offer support for AVCHD. I'm confused if I really need Soundtrack 1.2 and if I have to have AVCHD for quick importing from the SD media my camera uses?
I will be using some music in my vids and would like to be able to do easy voice overs, but nothing crazy soundtrack wise. Is there no sound track editing in FCE4?
    Thanks for helping a NOOB!

The problem with your camera is that, like 95%+ of the market, it is a compromise, trying to be a jack of all trades, combining video with stills and aimed at people who generally don't want to do any serious video editing.
As such, the designers have not concerned themselves as to whether it will be compatible with existing editing systems as most users will simply want to view their all the footage they shoot or at the most just cut out a few bad bits.
Almost every other camera that has been introduced in the last few years seems to have been given its own unique format which is totally incompatible with everything else. It makes the VHS/Betamax etc. wars of the 1980s seem like a walk in the park.
To answer your question about about AVCHD, it is the most popular high definition format in the consumer market and will probably take over everything unless/until it is superseded by some, as yet unannounced, format.

  • IMovie08 as a rough cut editor for FCE4?

    Hi All,
(I know there was a reference by Euisung Lee on this topic but no replies are currently allowed hence this new post...)
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5317430
I'm interested in the experience of anyone using iMovie08 as a rough cut editor for FCE4.
Why do I want to do this?
    * I love the sheer speed of putting together videos, even lengthy ones, in iM08.
    * Also the integration with the iApps
    * Love having an accessible skimmable library of all my DV
What I can't really live with in iM08...
    * The poor titling facilities
    * I've been trying the titling workaround noted in Karsten Shluter's website (ie. import a semi transparent TIFF or PNG from Photoshop and drag it onto clips). This works great except for one of my key projects where iM08 accepts the image file as normal, but doesn't display any overlayed image in the viewer.
    * Also concerned about the loss in quality on export (for DV files)
So...I'm thinking about the following workflow...
    a) import DV to iM08 (no loss in quality)
    b) within iM08, perform rough cut video selections, and intersperse with image files from iPhoto (gives a documentary feel with video + stills)
    c) export XML to FCE4
...I understand in this step that audio, transitions, KBE, adjustments, titles etc is lost in this process, but I'm assuming that the cuts and also the interspersed photos are retained
    d) so then in FCE4 perform the titling, KBE on the photos, edit the audio and do any effects such as slowmo etc...
I'm hoping this is a 'best of both worlds' solution in that I keep the speed factor in pulling together the backbones of the project, but also gain the functionality of FCE4 for the other components.
    My questions
    1. Does this work effectively - has anyone tried it? Any traps which would make it more cumbersome than I'm anticipating?
    2. Does FCE4 need to re-import or convert the original DV clips referenced by the iM08 XML. Does this duplicate the source files? Is there any loss of quality in the files then used in FCE4.
    3. Following from #2, will the export quality from FCE4 be superior to what I'm currently getting in iM08? (Noting that the majority of my output needs to end up as a DVD...not yet living in Steve J's DVD-less world yet)
    4. Has anyone run into the same titling/image overlay problems as I'm having with iM08.
A big thanks to the regulars who provide a huge source of great info here for us all...

    Hi Joey,
thanks for appreciating my post ..
.. do you think using iM08 as a rough cut editor in this way could work?
I guess, that is a way..
when iM08 araised, in one of my posts, I said, skimming would be on my wishlist for FCE4 .. skimming is, imho, excellence in UI design.. a 'switchable' timelne in FCE (skimming mode/timeline mode) would really speed up editing.. (if speed is an issue )
.. it appears that this workflow would also get me around the iM08 export quality issue.
as far as I understand the process, there's no loss in quality in this process.. the xml is just 'in-/out data' (like Midi in audio processing) and you transfer/clone the raw imports from iMEvents to FCEproject... I'm not indepth will this workflow, I guess, you double the data = hdd space issues.. but, +you never have enough space while doing video+ ...
.. It sounds like putting KBEs into photos is harder in FCE than iM08
I'd like to phrase 'different' ..
less intuitive, but with much more options (e.g. rotation, transparencies, multi pic, drop shadows ...) and with more control (e.g. no automatic 'smoothing'/acceleration as in KB/iM, creating 'paths' of movement .. .)
with some craftmanship, you could create a slideshow looking like those 'Themes' in iMHD6/iDVD ...
fo sure harder, but imho .. better ...
.. _I assume_ that FCE4 would operate in the same way as FCE3.5
    me too, vers3.5. here, no hands-on on vers4 ...

  • Sound dissapearing in iMovie '08

I've used iMovie '08 successfully for over a year. I opened it yesterday, and it worked fine. Sound played when I skimmed over videos in my iphoto library, and also when I played them. All of the sudden, the sound stopped working. I checked to make sure mute wasn't on, etc. Files in my project window still sounded fine. I tried removing the iphoto Data folder, then forcing iPhoto to rebuild all thumbnails. Then when I opened iMovie, it also rebuilt all video thumbnails (which took 8 hours). But, the problem persists. In the iphoto Data folder, where the video thumbnails are located, they videos play fine. Does anyone have a solution for this?

    Forest Mccready wrote:
.. but the fact that Apple wants iMovie 08 users to go and learn how to use a second app (Garageband), just to edit some audio, when it was so easily done with iMovieHD, seems very counter-productive to me and is one of many reasons why I can never see myself investing in new iLife software, until such time as Apple brings out a real iMovie HD update, which I am not holding my breath for either. ..
we shall not comment on Apple's strategy (ToU), but as an Apple 'fanboy' and iM user since vers2 I'd like to comment on that...:
'til vers6, iM was a 'rest of us' NLE .. in its complexity, in its options, in its handling of sources (restricted to 'real' videocams) and delivery ...
now, we see AppleTV, HiDef rentals in iTS - and HiDefcamcorders, 50" Plasmas .. and that YT phenomenon .. shakey, unsharp, snippets of moving pixels..
the reaction of Apple is: a very simple, basic, 'raw' uploader-tool.. (imagine iM08 on an iPhone...) and FCE4, offering allmost all features of Hollywood's dream machine FinalCut for just 299 ..
I'm used to iMHD2,3,4,5,6 too.. but I made the switch to FCE .. iM08 is a toy .. I use it only to participate here and due to integration into other iLife apps, mostly iWeb.. we have a wrong perspective here on this board: nobody edits his/her homevideos! Explain me the reason of existence of DVDcorders.. how silly is that! a video-polaroid! and now this Flip-thingie.. !!
editing, real editing, with 'ducking' audio, adding music, titles, themes ( ! ) , drama, segments, story telling.. this is very, very few of consumers.. that is a pro-sumer (I LOVE marketing lingo) feature..
we shall not speculate, but I mostly doubt we see 'editors' features in iM08.. I expect CoreAnim stuff, +heyhey look mom, funny face+ -type of effects, as allready realized in iChat/Photobooth..
... and I upgrade my vers. 3.5 of FCE, when skimming is integrated as an 'views options' into some forthcoming version of FCE ..

  • No sound on unlock

For some reason my iPhone 5 stopped making sound when unlocked or locked.  I have checked the sound effects volume, alerts, do not disturb, and other "obvious" settings.  Multiple hard resets have not cured the porblem, nor has manually closing all open apps.
On a potentially related note -- the other day my tones reverted to default sounds and the battery indicator -- which I have set to show the actual percent -- went reset to default as well.
iOS is up to date 6.1.4

Your comment about the beta version observations is interesting ... thanks.
I imagine we'll see the sound return in the not too distant future then.
    Enjoy your iPhone!

  • FCE4 - does it have scene detection for HDV?

This is an important feature for me and its not easy to find!
    Thanks

    According to the FCE4 manual:
"If you are using a DV format, you may be able to create subclips automatically from
start/stop metadata that is embedded in video frames each time you stop and start the
    camcorder. "
That doesn't sound too good for HDV or AVCHD.

  • FCE4 not "seeing" LiveType LiveFonts, Objects

There are LiveFonts and Objects listed and I can put them in my timeline and view on my canvas. I have read that there is another install disk...but that was not with my FCE4. Do I purchase that separated? Under "Installed" it just has "---" instead of "no" or "yes". I'm not real clear on how they can even be listed there if they don't really exist. The install icon is shadowed out. Can anyone tell me how to install these? Do I purchase these separately? Can I not use LiveType with FCE4?
    Thank you!

Yes, I see them. It doesn't come up as "Video 1: Live Type" when I add it to my preferences, it just shows the hard drive pathway to that folder...if that makes sense.
I am guessing then, that these are already installed in Live Type since they got installed with my FCE4? I think what was tripping me up is that when I clicked on one in my media browser, I was expecting to have to also click on the installation button at the bottom left of that window and it was always shadowed out and wouldn't allow it...so it sounds like what you are staying is that clicking on that button is a step you take if a LiveFont has NOT been installed (which is the case for FCP b/c there are so many to install), but for FCE, it is already a done deal.
    Is that correct?
And thank for you for this help!!
