Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Sound problems (and iTunes affected too??)

    I am getting VERY frustrated with my computer. Since purchasing it in September 2004, I have had no end of difficulty. Programs are unstable, crashing all the time. This was a problem with Panther. A few months ago, I took the computer into my dealer, and they installed Tiger on it for me. That solved the problem in the short term.
    Lately, however, the whole system (10.4.4) has been crashing regularly: the black box with the script "hold down your power button to restart" or similar comes up and I have to force a restart. This seems to have come up since I last ran update and installed what came up, including iTunes 6.0.2. I also have been watching more DVDs on the computer than usual.
    So now I'm having a problem with sound. When I press the F3 key for mute, all I get on the screen is a symbol saying the sound is up all the way. No mute symbol. But no audio either. When I press F4 or F5, no response at all. When I open the System Preferences, and the sound menu there, under "sound effects" everything is greyed out, under "output" there is no output device, under "input" there is no input device. I have tried plugging and unplugging external speakers and earphones.
    I listen to iTunes a lot, so no audio is a problem. Further, I'm having a problem with iTunes. It was fairly unstable. Now it will load and stay open, but will not play files. It looks like it's going to (as in it gives the file's information at the top of the screen, and the "pause" key is made available and can be pressed though this does not effect the file which is not actually playing in the first place).
    I have run Verify Disk and disk permissions. I have downloaded iTunes 6.0.2 again. I do not wish to do a complete system reinstall yet again. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
    Having used Mac/Apple for 20 years, I have often bragged about problem-free computing to my PC friends. Not this time, though, not with this machine. I've been very dissatisfied with it.

    Thank you for the suggestions, but feeling this problem was beyond my abilities, and not having time to fool around with it more than I already had done, I took the computer to the Apple Store in Toronto, where an Apple Genius did some stuff and fixed the problem, restoring sound and iTunes function. I'm afraid I don't even have insight into what the origin of the problem was to offer others who're having a similar difficulty.

  • Is there a customer loyalty department who will listen to a problem and not just try to stall by suggesting another factory reset?

    I've had an issue with my HTC one since I received it almost a year ago.  Both verizon and HTC have had me troubleshoot the device extensively, even though all indications are that it's not specifically my device, as my wife and a co worker have the same issue.  It has to do with conference calls, and not being able to hear one or more people on the call...other attendees sound fine, but there's always one or two who's voice fades out and trails off to the point of being unintelligible.  This, unfortunately, is a large part of my job, and I have to resort to a non-verizon phone to dial into conference calls.
    I would like to stay with verizon, but you guys really are making it difficult.  Everything's great, as long as we don't complain, but after being a customer for over a decade, you can't even give me an early upgrade?  I think I'm due in October, but this issue has been going on for almost a year...
    This same issue has been reported with HTC One's on Sprint as well.
    HTC refuses to do anything about it, and pointed me to Verizon.
    Verizon refuses to do anything about it, other than swap out the phone for the same model (which won't help)...or sell me a new phone at full price, because I am not eligible for an upgrade yet!  How is this good customer service?
    Is there anyone there who cares about customers, and has the ability to think outside the box, or is empowered to help avoid a very negative c-sat issue?

    What do you want Verizon to do? They did not screw up your device HTC did. And the issues are cross carriers, and across many makes of devices. So shall we blame Verizon wireless for every single operating system update? I hardly think so.
    If consumers, you will note I did not say customers beat the phone maker up over the device failures, they will deflect to Google for the updated software. Hardware with software are supposed to work together. However sometimes it does not.
    Also Verizon has opted not to grant early upgrades. Its their policy and it is their business. We as customers have the option of leaving for another carrier if we feel service is bad.
    Then should I look for the same complaint on T-Mobiles forum? Sprints? Or even AT&T? They are all seeing the issues but are in the same pickle as Verizon customers.

  • APPLE HAVE VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS and not telling the consumer

    Here are the problems I am having with my Apples. I have always held Apple in the highest esteem; not anymore. There is definitely something up at Apple.
    1.  icloud seems to be another disaster. Can't log in on a imac with the CORRECT password. iphone and ipad log in fine. Macbook Pro was logged in, signed out ( as part of my trouble shoot on the imac) and now that won't log in. Back to my PC spins its wheels perpetually on the one or two occassions I have managed to get in. In consequence mail, contacts, and calender are not syncing.
    2. Sleep and screen saver settings cannot be changed on imac. continually reverts to the original setting.
    3. passwords for email accounts are not retained. For approximately 7 email accounts I have to go through approximately 28 error and enter password screens to download emails.
    4.Many programs are starting up on start up despite closing them before shutdown. Settings are correct but still this nonsense.
    All these problems are being experienced by many other users.
    COME CLEAN WITH YOUR CONSUMERS APPLE. Just have the courage and maturity to tell your customers your have problems and support that with a commitment as to WHEN they will be resolved.
    You have lost a hardlined ambassador in myself. Goodbye.

    My new cq40 610tu compaq laptop works with only left side speaker is it build with only one left side speaker?  Is there no dual speaker?  But with head phone two headphone speaker works properly.  tell me details.
    another problem when we open command prompt in winxpSP2 it is not stable after few seconds it turns off automatically.  When I type large things in ms word 2003 cursor goes different place automatically.  whats the problem? 
    I purchase this laptop just 15 days ago.  What's the solutions?

    ... there should difinitely be no sparks  ) I recommend that you start with checking the wiring ... is the computer connected to earth, is the amplifier? Are they connected via the same power socket? Are you sure that the amplifier is OK?
    Then, will it be possible to have any sound from the card if the amplifier is not used? You can try removing cards, uninstalling drivers and then re-install ...
    It is well possible that by now you have damaged your soundcard, btw

  • K7T Pro V1 sound problems and CPU support

    I have a K7T Pro V1 motherboard.
    I can´t use onboard sound, because when I try to locate it (Windows 2000) on Add New Device, appears blue screen and text "Hardware malfunction. Call your hardware vendor for support. The System has halted".
    What I can do? ?(  ?(
    I also would like to know why this motherboard does not support Duron Morgan processors only Duron Spitfire -versions?  :(  :(

    Soundblaster   Enabled
    The system does not found new device automatically and when if I try to find new device manually, appears that error message and I have to boot the computer again.
    I just wonder is the problem onboard?

    Does  this mean I can´t use Morgans att all (even 900 or 950)?
    I mean does these 900 or 950 Morgans also need SSE support?

  • I have the "Bookmarks and history system will not be functional" problem and not FireFox will not open at all and my whole computer freezes if I try.

    For a few weeks now, I've been getting the "Bookmarks and history system will not be functional..." message. When I clicked for more information, FireFox would freeze.
    I found a solution about a new places database, but for the past few days I can't get FireFox to open at all. Then my whole system is frozen and I have to turn it off to get it going again, thus losing a lot of unsaved data.
    How can I get FireFox back?

    A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Sound problem.  Imac speaks seem to be in Mono

    Been working on this for a while and do not have a solution.
    I'm running XP Pro SP2 on a Imac 24-inch 2.8Ghz. The sound card is working but the sound is very tinny and in mono. I've upgraded to the Realtek 1.99 drivers and still had no luck. I've run out of ideas.

    Do you have it on Vibrate Only? You can turn Vibrate Only off by using the little switch near the Volume Buttons on the left side of the phone.
    If this does not work, try to reset your phone by holding down both the Home and Lock buttons for ~15 seconds or until the device restarts. Ignore the power slider.

    I can hear the other person when making a call but they can't hear me..it only works on speaker phone..what have I done and how do I fix it?

    Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

    Hi, a year ago I build my computer, a gaming PC, and everything works fine until a few days ago, exactly one year after the build, I was on mi pc when suddenly all freeze out, the video and the sound I just had to press the shutdown button, when I start the pc again it just start like 3 seconds and restart infinitely.
    After a web search I start to think that the PSU was the problem but after more research looks like the motherboard was the problem so I take out the battery and put it back and start the pc.
    The PC starts again, but another problem begin after that there is no video signal. The monitor doesn’t show any image I try to disconnect the Graphic card but nothing I press the button of the Motherboard to reset it but still the same I can’t solve the problem but there is more, after the PC start it stays ON like a minute and then restart again but the second time no restart anymore.
    Any suggestion ?

    So now you can boot with no auto restart, but without display?
    You tried with IGD (on-board display)?
    Maybe try another monitor or cable,
    and use only one RAM stick w/ different slots to boot.

  • Sound Problems, Dragon Naturally Speaking

    My sound seems poor, and the system fails the sound test (too loud, or too soft)  for Dragon Naturally Speaking.  It used to work with this program.  I have updated audio driver.  Suggestions?

    I'm writing a book freehand and trying to move it to a wordprocessing program. I've tried dragon on windows and macbook but they just dont seem to work for me. When I use voice recognition on my iPhone it works great. I would like to fiind the same technology for my macbook for transcription.

  • Sound Problem and PCAlert and CoolerXP

    OK.  Just bought the below memory/proc/mobo, and did a reinstall of WindowXP-Pro.
    What I'm seeing is that there is a highpitched buzzing noise coming through the soundport.  It probably would not usually be noticable with speakers, but because I ONLY use headphones, it's REAL noticeable.
    Now here's the weird part.  If I start up CoolerXP and enable the cooler, the noise goes away.

    OK.  New information.  The "buzz" I was talking about is apparently beeping that was coming so often it sounded like a continuous buzz...  my computer sits in such a way that the back of the computer is visible from where I sit, and as the computer started up, I started hearing a beeping sound which corresponded to the ACTIVITY led on the NIC.  every time the activity light comes on, I get a beep.  Reason I thought it was a buzz was cuz I was downloading when I first heard it, so the ACTIVITY led was constantly lit.  Also tested by unplugging the NIC.  No NIC=No noise.
    Still weird that simply turning on the CoolerXP makes the sound go away.
    Suggestions?  I know I could prolly fix it by goin down & buyin a cheap $20 nic & stickin it in a pci slot but I don't wanna hafta spend that money if there's another fix.

  • Sound problems and excessive data usage. Anyone else had this problem?

    Just upgraded from 3GS to 4S literally had the phone for 3 weeks, firstly within first week got told I'd used 90% of my 500mb data allowance when I hadn't even used the phone for much data only maps and general quick web page no YouTube vids or emails.  I found this odd as O2 told me I don't even use 500mb per month wiv my 3GS and with that I was streaming YouTube lots and emailing! And now today all my sound has gone! No ringing no alert sounds and when I call I can't hear anything and neither can the person at the other end.  I have tried resetting and everything anybody else had these problems??

    The iPhone is DESIGNED to switch to cellular data when asleep, unless it's connected to a power source, in which case it will stay logged onto the WiFi network.  iPhones have ALWAYS behaved this way.
    Either turn cellular data off at night, or leave your phone connected to a power source to continue the WiFI.
