Sound problems from iPhone 4

My iPhone makes no sound for messages, incoming calls, keyboard or alerts. But, the alarm clock, music and ingame sounds work just fine.
The phone is not on silent and the do not disturb mode is turned off. The problem continues when I connect headphones or any other external sound devices. I tried resetting the phone and cleaning the dock. None of the advice I found on the internet has helped me. The phone has suffered no damage, and is otherwise working just fine.
I would appreciate any help!
Thank you

To rule out a software issue, try to set it up as new device and don't use the backup after that, explained in this article:

If the sound comes back, restore from the backup. If it does not, get it serviced:

  • New address on IPHONE will not appear on MAC a sync problem from IPHONE to MAC

I am  having a sync problem but I don't believe many who are offering answers understand the issue.  I write/make/create a 'new' contact on my IPHONE 4 address book.  I wait for it to sync over air.  Yes, on my MAC and on my IPHONE I have it set up to sync over air.  That is what it says on the INFO tab on the IPHONE page of the Itunes when I connect the IPHONE to my MAC.
No, I will not turn off the over air sync, I do not want multiple duplicates of my addresses!
On my IPAD I have no problems, my notes sync, my address book syncs but it does not do it from Iphone to MAC???

    Hi denctanner,
I did read the post. I was simply explaining that Contacts does not sync with the OTA Sync function, it syncs via iCloud if you want to sync wirelessly....
The OTA Sync option on the Info page has nothing to do with the iCloud syncing of your Contacts....
Try deleting your iCloud account on your iPhone and signing on again. Once you have signed iCloud back on, make sure all the options you want checked are checked, and then try it again. (When you delete it, you will get a message that it will delete your Photo Stream and Document but don't worry, when you sign back on, they will come back).
    Cheers,

  • Sound problem on iPhone 4S

Hi everybody, first of all i'm sorry for my bad english (i'm lucky google helped me..)
When i'm on the phone and I start a game/application the sound of the game/application becomes UGLY! (Sorry I do not know how to describe it but, it's the same if I put an MP3, youtube.. ALL applications. When i'm not on call i haven't this problem of course !)
    Well i called Apple twice,
Once, the person tell me to upgrade my iPhone 4S on 5.0.1 and if the problem was still there I had to remind Apple, so i upgrade my iPhone and of course the problem still there.
So I recall apple a second time and the person tell me that it's normal on IOS 5.0 (5.0.1 too of course) because Apple chose to lower the quality / sound volume of applications / games during a call.
Well anybody can tell me if it's normal (if you tryed it) or if should recall Apple for my problem ?
Thank you in advance for your help
PS : Before i had an iPhone 3Gs on 4.3.3 and i never had this problem.

I have the exact same problem. Used to have the iPhone 3G and it worked beautifully. Just upgraded to the iPhone4S 64gb so that I could put on more videos and games for our 5 year old. This weekend was our first car trip and much to my surprise when I handed him the phone and turned on the first video, all you could hear was LOUD STATIC. I'm not talking about a "hum" that some people are talking about experiencing on calls. This is where you can't hear anything else on the video nor game apps. This was the ONLY reason I purchased this phone! So are we supposed to sit and wait for Apple to do something about their audio problems or do we keep taking them back and hoping we might by chance get lucky and get one that's better than the last one. My problem is, at least now, the static isn't in my calls yet.

i found the problem just now.  I checked everything in notification center, in whatsapp and Skype.  all settings are good.  Finally i found that I by mistake turned on the "do not disturb" so there is a half moon shown on the top of the screen.  I turned it off and everything is ok now.  hope can help some of you

  • Sound problems with iphones, first generation

    Hi,
I have a problem that appeared with my iphone: sometimes, the phone doesn't recognise that I have removed the earphones/handsfree and therefore doesn't send any sound to the normal phone's speaker, nor does it turn on the microphone to pick up what I am saying. I then have two options: either to put it on loudspeaker, or to plug-in my handsfree.
I solved the issues twice in the past by just plugging in & out the earphones a few times, start-stopping the ipod music through the earphone controller, and restarting the iphone. But this time it has stuck.
Many French users report similar problems http://www.iphonefr.com/viewtopic.php?id=5223
Any suggestion? I've tried blowing hard into the connector, without success. Do other people have the same problem? Is it an officially recognised problem by Apple? Is there any "command-line" operation / reset that could trick this? Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions.

Thank you for your reply. I'll continue trying to pull out/in the connectors, slowly, to get it to change mode...
More generally, I would have thought that this was more of a software issue than hardware. And hence I would have expected that a small "command line" could have gotten the phone out of it's f*ed up status...

  • Iphoto uploading problem from iphone

When trying to upload my images from my iphone to my macbook, it tells me that it has a problem uploading an image and therefore can't complete. anyone know what could be the problem?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IOS 5 sound problem on iphone 4

    upgraded my Iphone4 to ios5
Now, I have a strange problem, and I don't know if the cause is an ios5's bug or if it is material problem.
I restored many times the ios5, but it doesn't fix the pb.
    Here is the description :
    - the slider volume bar has disappeared. ==> No sound in applications, music, games...
(the + and - buttons make the volume icon appear, but the slider is empty)
    - But the phone rings when I receive a call.
    - I can hear/change the ring tones in the sound menu (the + and - buttons work)
    - But the message/mail don't ring , and I can't hear them in the sound menu
    - During a phone call, if I put the conversation on speakers ==> it works and the volume bar reappears. I can control the volume with + and - buttons.
But when the conversation is over, the bar disappears again.
    - With the headphones, everything is ok!
    - I also noticed (only a few times) that when I do a repring (with changing the language of the phone), the volume slider reappears and works correctly during 2 or 3 seconds, before disappearing again.
This tip is not reproductible anymore... I don't know why...!
I guess that it is a ios5 problem, because the speakers work.
    Thanks from australia

  • Direct Downloading problems from iPhone

    Hi,
I've had my iPhone for about 2 weeks. I've really had no problems until I put in the update. Now, I don't seem to be able to download directly to the iPhone, but have to go through iTunes from my computer.
Was OTA (Over the air) downloads taken out of the update? Or is it a faulty app on my iPhone? Is anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks

Anytime something doesn't seem to work right...do a reboot.
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.
