Sound problems using IDVD 4

Last night I "shared" an IMovie with IDVD and burned a DVD. The thing will not play at all on my Mac. It does play on my husband's PC with beautiful video and audio that is dreadful - sounds like it's coming from a very loud echo chamber! Advice for a novice anyone?

Hi Bengt:
- refered in another post that one of the main benefits of this forum is
the friends You get -
And you are a very good friend to have!
Hi #1 Gran:
In my opinion, Bengt is (as always) correct. I wonder what was the speed of media you used?
Since it is iDVD4, I know you had to use DVD-R, but what speed was the burn? 4x? 8x? 16 or faster?
Your best bet is Verbatim DVD-R 4X.
Also-be sure to try what Bengt suggests regarding dropping the movie project into iDVD instead of the share option.
Keep us posted!

  • Problem Using iDVD to burn a movie

Hi, I'm very new to Mac world and trying to learn.
Recently when I tried to use my iDVD to burn DVD, I faced a problem where even the Mac Support centre fail to help me.
I have a movie files and individual is about 420M in DiVX format. When I import into the iDVD, by right a DVD should be able to accomodate up to 5 or 6 movie. However, when I import the 3rd movie file, the iDVD told me I already exit a DVD capacity of 4.7G.
Can any expert can help me to resolve this issue so that I can burn my movie in DVD using the iDVD?
    thanks for the advise.

    Hi
    1. To me DivX is a stranged format. I use only streamingDV QT.mov files as in iMovie
I drop the movie project icon into iDVD.
I would convert them to this.
    2. iDVD doesn't care about Mb or Gbs on file size - only minutes in total including menu.
If it exceeds 60 or 120 minutes dep on quality encoding seleected there are problems.
One can easily make a 100Mb file that lasts >>2h and a 50Gb that is a 30 min movie.

Can disk utility able to burn picture slideshow project (from idvd or imovie)and movie? If so, how it can be done so I can play picture slideshow on my portable dvd player? I tried disk image already. It didn't work on pc or dvd player. Anyone knows how ...please give details. Thank you much!

    Hi
    a. Did the DiskImage run on Your Mac ?
    b. If You burn this to a DVD You need to see that it creates a video-DVD not a Data-DVD
    c. I open the image and use Roxio Toast™ to do this but Apple Disk Util tool can
    do this as well.

  • Sound Problems using Windows Vista.

    Hello everybody!
I have a problem with the sound in Windows Vista with my iMac. I install BootCamp Drivers (last version) and the sound system works with this drivers, but, when it's playing music, I always listen to a very strong noise. I don't have any microphone active (actually I desactivate all about input sound in control panel, to considerate where is the problem)
So, please, Can someone help me?
    Thank you so much...

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows XP & Vista.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & XP or Vista, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
The Forum is at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology.

  • Sound problems using face time

I'm trying to use face time with my dad, he's using an iPhone 5 and he's in Korea. When we're face timing he can hear me but I can't hear him! I have the volume turned up all the way, and the sound effect turned up all the way too! Can you please help?

    Hey Emilawilliams98!
I have a couple of articles that will help you troubleshoot this FaceTime issue. First, a general article about troubleshooting FaceTime, which can be found here:

  • Using iDVD, I've no problem creating a slideshow, but I want to add three seperate sound files, in this case speeches I've got in iTunes. I want to create three individual buttons/sub menu to access them individually from the photos. Can anyone help

Using iDVD I've no problem creating a slideshow, but am having problems trying to add three seperate sound files in this case three speeches that I hold in iTunes. I want to be able to access them individually and seperately from the photo slideshow. Can anyone advise if this can be done and if it can, how I go about creating the seperate menu and buttons.

If you'd like to integrate the speeches with the slideshow, I'd do that in iMovie where you'll have more control over the timing.  Use chapter markers at the beginning of each speech so the viewer can jump to a particular speech (note that chapter markers advance the viewer to a particular spot -- the viewer keeps watching the rest of the video until the end of everything or until they use the remote's menu button).
If you're just wanting the speeches to be on the DVD so people can listen to the speeches after seeing your slideshow, you could:
    - use iDVD or iMovie to make a "slideshow" with just 1 image matching the length of a speech.
    - create three submenus and use the speeches as menu music.  Here's a (random) video on creating submenus:

Reduce your burn speed to 1/2 the Rating of the Media.
    Disc Burner
If more than one supported disc burner is connected to your computer, choose one from the menu.
    Preferred Speed
When you burn a CD, iTunes automatically uses the best recording speed for the CD. However, if your blank CD is rated for a slower speed than the maximum speed of your drive, or if you experience problems creating CDs, you may want to change the recording speed to match the CD’s rating.
    Disc Format
Choose the type of disc you want to burn: Audio CD; MP3 CD; or Data CD or DVD.
    Gap Between Songs
Choose the amount of silence, if any, between songs.
    Use Sound Check
To have all songs on the disc play at the same volume, select this option.
    Include CD Text
To include information that CD players in some vehicles can display, select this option.

I have problems with my films that become slightly jerky after I have imported
and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD.
I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally
    and vertically.
I shoot with a camcorder Canon Vixia HF10. The camera has been set to deliver HD quality (1920x1080). But I have accidentally filmed with a frame rate of 60 (?).
When I import the films in iMovie I have been asked if I want to change to frame rate 30 (instead of 25). I have chosen 30.
Could it be the setting of a frame rate 60 in my camcorder that causes jerkiness when panning or what else?

  • Sound problems with Portege M600 using WXP SP3

I have had on-going sound problems with my laptop and feel so frustrated - please help!
I have downloaded the sound driver (abt a million times - and tried uninstalling then reinstalling) - and repeatedly get no volume icon on the desk top and a message saying "no sound driver can be found".
I did manage to fix it once - when i had WIndows Vista installed - by finding some obscure patch - but this time around - no solutions.
Can anyone help - it is so frustrating!!!!

The mentioned patches are part of Win XP SP2 & SP3
So ensure that all service packs are installed.
Then go to device manager and delete the High Definition Audio Controller (in system devices) and additionally delete all devices from Audio, Video and Game controller section.
    Then reboot the notebook.
Wait until the device would be recognized again and then install the sound driver!

  • IMovie sound problem - a solution discovery

After downloading a video in iMovie and completing all the processes steps that I wanted to include, I tried to burn this project in iDVD. A problem arose with the sound when I played the iDVD preview. The sound was grabbled and distorted. I contacted AppleCare and got several possible solutions, but none of these solve my sound problem. I even tried to send it back to my camcorder and use my older G4 computer to make a DVD. However, the program could not be transferred to my camcorder either.
Now a strange discovery was found. On the sound line in iMovie (where I had recorded my voice program) was a small yellow dot. Yes, very small yellow dot. I wondered why this was there and clicked on it. The dot move up to the top bar where my video clips were stored. I thought maybe this had changed things, so I rendered the program to iDVD again and previewed it. The sound problem was gone. I successfully burn the program to DVD and found it was okay to view. I have shared this discovery with AppleCare and was asked to share this information in this discussion forum. I hope that others may benefit from solving a similar problem. I still don't know how the tiny yellow dot got on my sound line. If somebody knows, it could be interesting and helpful to avoid this problematic yellow dot. Good luck - Seapark36

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions!
Thanks for mentioning this business of the "..very small yellow dot".
This sounds like a 'Bookmark'. Bookmarks can be placed on the Timeline, where your video plays, along the bottom of the computer's iMovie display, by purposely - or accidentally! - pressing the Apple key and 'B'. Bookmarks let you jump instantly back and forth through your movie (..to the next Bookmark..) by jumping forwards to the next one with Apple and ']', or backwards to the previous one with Apple (..also known as the 'Command' key..) and left-square-bracket '['.
They have, though, been known to interfere with proper playback when exporting (..'Sharing'..) to tape or to iDVD, so Karl's advice has been to delete all bookmarks when the editing's finished and just before 'Sharing'. All bookmarks can be instantly deleted by going to Markers on the top line menu and clicking Delete all Bookmarks.... (An individual bookmark can be deleted, once you've jumped to it, by pressing AltAppleB.)
The little diamond-shaped dots look almost identical to Chapter Marker diamond dots, which you can create by clicking the 'iDVD' tab at the lower-right beneath the right-hand 'pane' of the iMovie window and then clicking 'Add Chapter'. That creates a chapter marker to separate a particular section of your movie when it plays back from a DVD you've burned.
The Bookmarks and Chapter Markers seem (..to me!..) to have a very slightly different colour - maybe one's green and one's yellow: I don't know; I'm red-green colour blind, so I can't tell yellow from green, or green from red!
So perhaps you accidentally created a bookmark by unintentionally tapping the Apple key and then the letter 'B'. Removing it, and all other bookmarks, is generally acknowledged to smooth the process of exporting (..'Sharing'..) a movie project.
Thanks for posting your observation, and reminding us about how important it is to delete bookmarks before exporting!

  • Sound distortion from iDVD

I am putting together some clips of my son's highschool band performances taken with a SONY Handycam DCR-HC36 and will be burning them to a DVD to distribute to fellow band parents. The video has been downloaded via firewire to an iMac G5 and the editing is being done in iMovie. At first I tried burning a DVD through Toast 6. The quality of the output through Toast is generally good when the camera is focused steadily on the band or zoomed in and out. But when the camera is panned across the band, highlighting the individual players, there is a lot of visual "flutter" or "vibration" as the camera moves across the group. The distortion is not really noticeable when viewing the DVD on a computer monitor but becomes pretty painful when watching the disc on the larger TV screen. I tried outputing the file through iDVD and the video problems magically cleared up but the sound is distorted and not usable. I love the idea of using iDVD since it has the chapter options but cannot have such poor sound. Why would the audio from Toast be so much better? I looked in the iDVD application but couldn't find anyway to modify the sound output. Are there any solutions to this problem other than upgrading to Toast 7 and hoping it handles the video better?
    Thanks,
    Reid McCallister

The mpg-2 compression used on DVDs looks at frame-to-frame differences - fast pans and zooms have a lot of difference between frames and don't compress well (as you have found out).

If the iDVD video was better than the Toast videos, you should try Toast again at a higher quality setting.
Toast uses compressed Dolby audio - iDVD uses uncompressed PCM audio. Perhaps your DVD player doesn't 'like' the uncompressed Audio - it does present the player with a higher-bit rate to decode. ... or it could be something completely else ...

  • IMovie 11 export unsync, transition problem, and sound problem

Hi all. I have done a 1 hour and 36 min long movie on my weeding and it's made of around 80 "clips", where in some places the original sound is used and in some places external sound is placed instead. In some places iMovie text boxes is used and in some places the video has filters and slow motion (so a lot of random filters, effects, etc and chapters).
So my problem? 3 weeks ago I wanted to just test the video before doing everything done and exported it as mov HD1080 and it worked good on other devices. When improvements done I tried to export it again. But as it is now, when I export is, regardless if its to iDVD, iTunes, MOV HD720 or 1080, and regardless if its "finilized" first or not, or if its shared to "media library", the transitions is not working (un sync) and the sound is fading out to 0% during all the transitions before up to the original level.
I have for real exported the film more than 25 times and average export time is 6 hours due to the high quality and the time duration.
When just in the project view looking and listening, everything is just perfect. As soon as I finilize the project, or export it, even in the project preview it doesnt work. I also tested to install miDVD pro (10$) and WonderShare DVD Creator (39$) to just sharing the project to them, but the result was the same.
I just want to be able to export it as it is in the project.
I have macbook 13, moutain lion, iMovie 11
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

I have iMovie '11 and cannot create a HD 1080p movie. I've got a 27" iMac with a 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 processor (I purchased this computer last month). I tried like crazy to export the HD movie last night (it's one of the new trailers -- the one that looks like Indiana Jones & it's less than 1 minute long) but no dice due to a "HEAP" error. I tried to export the movie a couple of times this morning. It went a little further in the rendering until the HEAP error popped up again (this was from a fresh reboot). The really odd thing is that when I render it in HD 720p, my movie clips are black. No video. The built-in trailer stuff from iMovie '11 is there, just none of my clips show up (they're all black).

  • Problem using File sharing  in a small office network

I have a problem using File sharing on an Imac and Macbook Pro.
My office has a small network running Windows Small office file server 2003. I have one Windows 2000 PC connected to it and 3 Macs, an 2.4 gHz Intel iMac running Leopard 10.5.6 , a MBP running the same and a Mac Mini running 10.5.
From the Finder Shared window of the Mac Mini, I can see all the computers on the network. It also used to be the case for the iMac, but the MBP could never see the Windows PC’s, not the server or the Win2000. This wasn’t a big problem as I was communicating between the Macs and using the shared printer on the iMac.
On Monday Jan 19 the iMac was suddenly unavailable to the other 2 Macs. It was working normally on the Friday. The iMac can access the Mac Mini and copy files to it. The Mac Mini can see the iMac but cannot access it. Even trying to connect as, ends in a failed connection. I have tried rebooting, turning File sharing off and then on again to no avail.
The iMac now also cannot see the Windows PC’s which it previously could.
To get files from the MBP for printing, I now copy it to the Mac Mini and acces the folder from the iMac, a very tedious procedure. I don’t know why this happened and am scared that the Mac Mini is going to do the same thing.
All three computers are also running VMware 2.0 with Windows XP pro, and from VMware the server is visible on all the computers.
Any help will be much appreciated, I live in a small town in South Africa and the local computer suppliers have no knowledge of the Macs.
I think that the problem with the iMac may have started after a software upgrade to 10.5.6 but I am not entirely sure.
    Thank you
    ajdk

Well, you're current method sounds pretty good. But if you want to user a file server, hey go ahead.
What you want to do when you centralize project files is to keep track of which one is the newest and becareful not to overwrite files with the same name. So you either have to set up individual spaces on the server (separate AFP/FTP folders maybe), or you'll need to run a file checkout service.
The individual space is cheaper, but it's not much of a difference from backing up to the network drive. Since you have Gigabit connections, you might even opt to save ALL the user files on the server instead of just the project files.
If you want to run a file checkout service, there's two approaches. You can run a service that can host any kind of file, or you can run a version control system for each kind of application (Photoshop, Word, etc.). Please notice, that as you read further and further along, the methods become more and more expensive and complicated. Once you get to this point, it will be necessary to purchase or build software in addition to the Mac OS X Server package.

  • I have sound problem in My Cq40-144TU Laptop

    Hi,
I have Cq40-144tu laptop. i am't hearing sound from internal speaker but sound is hearing from headphone. I have configured my system many time. Last got to shop and they also format it and reconfigured but still this problem is showing.
But I was hearing sound from speaker when i chat in gtalk and then i heared sound from window media player and other application also for 5 to 10 second only. every time some text is recieved i hear sound for 5 to 10 second.
please tell me what is problem in My Laptop. i have window 7 ultimate operating system.
    Please help me sir

What sound problem - no sound on anything, no sound on some apps ?
Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
And for future info typing in all capitals is considered to be SHOUTING

  • No Sound when Using HDMI from ATT DVR to TV

I have a 52xv645u TV.  When I connect it to my ATT UVerse DVR using HDMI I get picture but no sound.  Using Composite everything works fine.  I've tried several HDMI cables.  If I use HDMI to my Surround Sound amp, I get both picture and sound (even with the amp volume muted).  The problem seems to be the connection between the DVR and the TV.  Does this TV support HDSC?  I believe that the DVR requires it to support it on the TV.
I see that there is an upgrade for the firmware for this TV.  I have a Mac so the instructions don't work right.  I've downloaded the files to a flash drive but I am not sure if they are correct because there is no list of files available.  Does anyone know what files are needed so I can be sure that my flash drive has everything it needs?
Any help with these problems would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mark

Is there a list of things that are fixed in the update?   I can get sound and picture through component but I fear that it's not the same quality as it would be through HDMI.  But again, it's only when I watch TV without going through my surround sound amp.  I can watch TV through my apm and watch my Bluray DVDs through the amp and it goes via HDMI.
