  • Problems with MSI 648 Max

I have problems with my sons MSI 648 Max Mainboard, everything seems to be alhright, but when I upgraded the BIOS version to the lastest. the computer starts to hang. I have also but a new harddisk in to the computer an some more RAM. I think the problem begin in the powersupply, its just a 250 W powersupply to the computer, and we have av 1.8 GHz Celeron. Have anything had this problem, or is it something I should think about after the upgrade of the BIOS?.

I know that 250 watt is to small, but the computer have function great in 2 months. But after i have taking out the old harddisk and but in a new bigger one, and placed some more RAM (256). After that I installed Windows XP on the new harddisk, but after that I upgraded my BIOS version to 1.4. After the upgrade of the BIOS the computer starts to freeze after a while. I tried to reinstall XP but the computer freeze under the installation. I have tried to switch back to older BIOS version, but I cant make it work. I have really hard to believe that the powersupply is the reason why the compter freeze.

  • MSI 648 Max (Ms-6585) overclockability... Anyone?

Just bought a Ms-6585 which is also known as 648max. I wonder anyone else can share your overclocking experience on this board, and how is this board's overclockability.
I plan to get a P4 2.0A (tight budget) and overclock to 2660mhz which is running on 133x20. Do you guys think it can work?
By right P4 2.0A (not OEM version) overclock well through increase CPU voltage. I hope i can reach 2660mhz, pls point me out if anyone concerns. :]
    thanks

Give me a chance to show mine here. I'm really fedup for this moment. ;(

i have one question here: the PCI/AGP bus for this board are - 33/66, 34/68, 35/70... Is it fixed by setting or it will raising follow by system bus increment. ?(

  • Weird problem with my 648 MAX-L board

    Hello friends:
    I recently brought a 648 MAX-L board and had a weird
problem: every time when I power on the system, it
could not find my hard drive (Seagate 80G/7200 rpi).
But when I reboot, the hard drive is found and the system could then boot without problem. So the problem
is that I have to reboot one every time I'd start my
PC. This is weird. I suspect something is wrong with
    BIOS battery?

if you disable fast boot does it start first time
a weak psu may be related to this, drive not spinning up fast enough first time

Have some suggestions on what to do, but I'm not sure it will help. If enyone else has something feel free..
It's seams like you have had the PC up and running, and that's good.
Regarding the diagnostic led's I can only suggest that you double check the connection to the board. (They all should either be green or red when booting).
Even though it's hot hardware, loading the optimal fast setting is not the same as getting the best settings for your system.
Regarding DDR400 and 648Max they didn't officially support it when they released the board, but they now do. I would suggest you check your version of the board. (I have ver 1.0 produced sept. 02, and my DDR400 has to be run as DDR333 to function properly).
You don't say anything about your psu, but it should be above 200W combined.

  • Sound problem with my iPod touch! Need urgent help!

I have an iPod Touch 8gb 3rd gen (2nd gen) and have owned it for a couple years. Recently I've been noticing some sound problems when I listen to music with earbuds/headphones. One of the earbuds will lose sound and won't produce music but if I twist the input plug it produce little or full sound but if it moves out of a certain position it won't produce sound out of that bud. I'm using Skullcandy Ink'd earbuds so I thought maybe since they arn't great it might be a manufacturer defect but I used them with my iPod Nano 2gb 1st gen and I could hear out of both earbuds perfectly. I even plugged in my iPod Touch into a car adapter so I could listen to my music through the car stereo and it went in and out of sound so I realize now it is my iPod and not  3rd party equipment I've been using with it that is the problem. Since its the iPod what is the exact problem and how do I fix it? I really don't want to use my old iPod since it doesn't have enough storage for my music now and I'm already getting something else for Christmas that I've been wanting for a while. Please help!

If your car adapter works thru the headphone jack, the problem could just be dirt inside the jack.
Try just putting in and out the headphone plug a few times. You can also try cleaning the jack, just don't use anything wet. Cotton swabs are also not advisable as they might leave lint and make things worse.
To make sure it's not a oft ware issue, try to Reset your device.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off that shows up first).

  • Sound problem with QuickTime .dv files exported from iMovie ~ help please

    Hi
I have been working for ages on an important project which is intended to wind-up as a numbered edition DVD, limited to 50 copies.
When I worked in iMovie HD 5 this NEW PROBLEM didn't arise: I did what I thought was the right thing and bought iLife '06, then upgraded from the Apple site, so now I am using iMovie HD 6.0.1, iDVD 6.0.1 and QuickTime Player 7.0.4.
I've designed my own menus and the procedure as most anyone will know [thanks iCreate magazine!] is...you have to 'export' (or now 'share') the iMovie to QuickTime (or with QuickTime) which produces a .dv file which you then drag-and-drop into iDVD.
I've got 4 of these .dv files for the start-up and some menus.
THE PROBLEM IS whereas the sound (it's actually music) has been faded out (in synch with the image) ~ in iMovie everything seems fine ~ but THE QUICKTIME .dv FILES HAVE AN ANNOYING LITTLE "FLARE-UP" OF MUSIC AT THE END OF THEM.
Imported into iDVD, in preview: sure enough! ~ you hear the annoying, untidy-sounding snips at the end.
It's ruining my project ~ please help, someone!

I am having the exact problem, it's a real show stopper.
I have tested hardware, software, media as below.
    Tested on
    1 Intel 17inch iMac
    2 G4 AGP 450 + 1.2Ghz Model
Each have a fresh install of iLife 06 on
Each have been tested with different project files.
    Differnet music files
The issue seems to be with apples iLife software to me.
I am on the phone to apple right now, they only surgest I create a new user as it generates new prefs, but the above test has already rulled out preference files!
Also rebuilding and reinstalling, but again the above test has rulled that out as the 3 machines were freshly built.
I have already upgraded my graphics card in my machine at home to sort out preview problems with iMovie, hopefully it's not going to be an expensive audio card aswell.
If any 1 can throw any light on this please do as apple support can't.
    Regards

  • BIG failure problem with my 648-max mobo

I was attending a LAN two days ago and while playing a game, my computer froze.  No big deal, it occasionally happens.  So I go to restart the computer, and when i did, I now get a "Please Check Signal Cable" message.  From here, I tried removing and replacing the vid. card, swapping RAM, swapping PSU, switching up parts in the PCI slots, and resetting the CMOS.  None of these things have gotten my computer to boot up.
When I turn on the computer, i am supposed to hear 2 beeps.  One being the mobo firing up (With a white MSI screen), and the second confirming the load up.  I do not hear any sounds, meaning that my motherboard is not responding.  I made sure that all connections are made.  I know of this because the fans turn on, and the psu gives off all of the necessary volts.
Could it be possible that a few dip switches were tripped?  How would I reset them?  Does anyone have any kind of input for me?  If not, I may have to buy a new mobo.
    any help is appreciated

You said, swapping power supplies, did you actually change out to another supply?
If not, maybe you should do this.
Shut down your computer and open it up. Leave the power supply connected to the AC power cord.
Leave the power supply's master power switch on, if it has one.
Disconnect the ATX power connector from the motherboard. This is a wide, flat connector with two rows of pins and a locking tab.
Locate the pin connected to the gray wire. This is the PWR_OK pin.
Locate any pin connected to a black wire. These are the ground/earth pins.
Place the red (positive) probe of your voltmeter on the PWR_OK pin, and the black (negative) probe on any ground pin.
If the gray pin reads 2 volts or more, then the power supply passed its internal diagnostic. Your power supply is probably good.
If the gray pin reads much less than 1 volt, then the power supply is dead. Replace the power supply.
If you lose part of the power supply, your vga ram/rom and your beeps wont work, but the fan can still come on.  different voltages.  its a starting point.  C

  • MSI 648 Max -- AGP setting in BIOS

I had tried to install the driver for the GeForce4 MX440.
After finished the install, I reboot the computer.
When loading into WindowsXP[the black screen with a WindowsXP logo in middle], the monitor suddently turns black and changed to "power saving mode", but the computer power LED still on.
I think there are something wrong in the BIOS.
Can you tell me whether the BIOS setting is correct?
    Thank you!

Any other method to solve the problem?
My computer can successfully reboot and load into WindowsXP for once, when I set the refresh rate to 85Hz, it hangs.  I have to reboot it to safe mode and disable the card. Then it can boot into WindowsXP.
When I reinstall the driver, the problem happen again.

  • Windows XP and MSI 648 Max

Can anybody give me a good tips, whats wrong when Windows XP installation (BSOD) failed on a computer with MSI 648 Max, I can see that is many in the some siuation as me. But no one of the solutions looks like i good one. Is it somebode that have find out the problem, or?

Its a good idea, but the RAM that I use is the same thats worked fine in the computer earlier. Its DDR DIMM 3100 TwinMOS, and thats a good stuff if I know it right?.
I have tried to take out the harddisk and placed it in another computer, and installed Windows XP. After that I placed the harddisk in the computer with the MSI motherboard, and I get I/O error and it couldnt red from the harddrive. I think that its the 250 watts powersupply, as the problem. I have looked i BIOS and under PC Healt, and there I could see that the +12 V  and -12 V will only give +/- 11-11,5 V. Now I have purchase I new bigger powersupply, and hope that gonna fix the problem.

  • MSI 648 Max - Display Problems

I recently bought the MSI 648 Max motherboard, as my system needed an upgrade quite badly.  To cut the costs down a bit, I’ve used some parts from my previous system (eg the video card which is an 2x AGP, 64 Mb, Kyro based card) but got new RAM, CPU and psu.
I put together the system (described below), loaded Windows ME, updated all drivers with latest releases, and the thing works but the quality of the display is really bad    ;( .  That is, I get lots of video artefacts (shadows, fading text, vertical lines, distorted colours, etc).  The video card was working fine on my other machine.  Also, Sisoft Sandra says that the card is operating at 2x AGP, as it should.
I am not overclocking; some of the BIOS parameters I used are as follows (based on the OPTIMAL DEFAULTS):
    AGP Aperture Size                     128 Mb
    DRAM CAS Latency                      by SPD
    Timing Setting Mode                      NORMAL
    MA 1T/2T Select                      AUTO
    Primary Graphics Adapter      AGP
Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA      NO
    CPU/DRAM Frequency Ratio      by SPD
DRAM Frequency                      167 MHz (for now)
    CPU Frequency                      133 MHz
    AGP/PCI Frequency                      66/33
    DRAM Vcore          2.6 V
    CPU Vcore         AUTO
The system temperature showed in the Health Status is less than 40 C (104 F).
I have tried the latest AMI BIOS (version 1.3), and then reverted to version 1.0, but I still have the same display problem.
I would really appreciate some help.

Just put a new machine together and I am having some problems, hopefully someone can help.
My machine seems to run pretty stable in OS, but dies when any game is played. It will crash anywhere from 2 minutes - 45 minutes in the game. Ive tried several games: C&C generals, unreal2, etc with the same results.

    Thanks in advance

Well my roomate cancelled the memory test after 12 hours, so I dont know those results.
I do know that after removing 1 of the DIMMS, the machine seemed to be stable playing games.
I sure wish MSI would have stated it only accepted 1 double sided DIMM.. especially when the reccomend Kingston ram, which is double sided......
Me and my roomate BOTH bought this motherboard, while my roomate only bought 2 DIMMS of 512, I bought 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now it looks like we need to return these motherboards and get new ones... I HAVENT EVEN GOT MINE OUT THE BOX!!!!!!!!
Any reccomendations on an MSI motherboard (or any) that support  double sided DIMMS? I am looking for 3 slots...
    thanks...
Any other advise on how to get this motherboard to work with all this ram would help too, so we dont have to RMA through newegg....
Anyone from MSI read this board?????

  • Msi 648 max working with ati 9700

    Hi,
I got it working (100% no crashes) today on windows 2k adv server:
    msi 648 max (6585 early version), ati 9700 (1st version), and mostly the latest drivers/software, e.g. msi mb bios v1.2, sisagp47.exe, siside47.exe, ms directx9 (dx90_redist.exe), wxp-w2k-radeon-7-83-030120a1-007447c-efg.exe, control-panel-7-83-030120a1-007447c-efg.exe.
Before you get happy, now I want to replace the 648 motherboard with something better. It is a total waste of money to try running an ati 9700 on an msi 648 max.
Summary: I had to set my DRAM memory clock to 2.5, fast write off, and agp to 4x. There are a bunch of other bios settings and ATI control panel setting to keep it from crashing. If anyone is pathetic enought (like me) to want more information, then post your questions.
The only reason I'm posting my results is because I got all my help from people on this board. BTW I'm running Corsiar CMX512-3200C2 (at 2.5 sucks), and Antec Truepower 550w power supply (which is not p.o.s).
Good luck and save your money....
    Thanks all.

    Hi,
I agree. My Bios is at version 1.2 because I flashed it a couple months/weeks ago and that was the current version at the time. Now they have up to 1.4 but I did not need it.
    Bye.

  • Intel 3.06GHz on MSI 648 Max L

    Hi,
I have a question; if I were to purchase in the future a P4 3.06Ghz processor which supports HT, will it work on my MSI 648 Max without hyperthreading just as a normal processor? I understand that hyperthreading does not work on this board (the one without the udated chip). I'm just curious if the processor itself is supported. I don't see why not, it should just work as a single 3.06 processor. Thanks in advance.
    Razvan Scutaru

I have the 3.06 running in mine , and the board is the one that does not have HT.. and it works just fine..
The only thing that I have found is that you cannot run 400 mghz ram in it with spd setting.. you will have to go and set up the setting manual and then it will work.. don't ask me why I can't find it out..lol..
But other than that it is one fast computer..
also if you set the ram setting to anything other than  the fast setting  it will default back to 2.5 on the cas setting..
But after running bench marks I can't see any improvement by running at a cas of 2..
Also if you have a black screen when you are working with the bios you will have to clear them and reboot .
I had one that gave me problems but it was the PSU that was causeing it.. 400 wat but in real load it was only putting out 328 wats..  and that will not work with a 9700 pro in this board.. at least it would not on mine.
