Sound problems with Yosemite when switching from internal speakers to earbuds

After upgrading to Yosemite on my Macbook Pro, when I switch from using the internal speakers for sound and plug in my (Apple) earbuds, the sound stops working.  The sound also stops when I do the reverse and unplug my earbuds, nothing comes out of the internal speakers.  The only way to restore sound is to go into System Preferences, Sound, and select the output device (internal speakers, earphones, etc..).  Anyone else experiencing this problem after installing Yosemite, or know of a fix?

I have the same problem..
there is something else happened twice with me, I plugged my macbook with a HDMI cable to the TV, and everything was ok, until I closed the macbook (sleep mode), when I opened the mac again,, the sound has gone! No sound from TV or macbook,, the only solution is to "RESTART"

  • Problems with project when switched from Labview 8.2.1 to Labview 10

    Hi everyone,
    I recently switched from Labview 8.2.1 to Labview 10.
    Before I can run the project I get the error which you can see in the attachment.
    (The project is running well in Labview 8.2.1)
    I did already check if variables end with a space, but none of them are.
    The variables are also without any slashes, so that couldn't be the problem either.
    Does anybody has any idea what the problem can be, please let me know.
    I hope to hear from some of you soon.

    Your other post in the other thread indicates you've looked at that thread. Based on that have you checked your variable names to see if any of them are multi-line? The error message is basically telling you that you have illegal characters. A carriage return (\r) or a new line (\n) is an illegal character.

  • My sound switches from internal speakers to apple Tv and i dont have an apple tv device

    I am having problems with sound. My speakers will switch from internal speakers to Apple TV for no reason when I am on a certain wifi network and ask for a password. I do not have an apple TV and in order for the sound to come out on the internal speakers i have to manually go into the preferences and switch back to internal speakers. This does this constantly while i am listening to music. Is there a way to shut off the feature so it will stay on internal speakers? This has happened ever since i made the upgrade to OS mountain lion. I never did this before. Thank you for your help.

    Are you sure that WIFI network doesn't have an AppleTV on it?  Just because you don't own it doesn't mean there isn't one on that network.  The laptop or better said the OS cannot differentiate between an AppleTV that you own or not.  If it sees one on the network, it will show you one as being available.  The automatic reconnection is happening probably because the last time you streamed to an AppleTV, you didn't drop that connection before sleeping the computer or shutting down iTunes.

  • HELP! How do I get rid of the volume noise that plays when I switch from internal speakers to external speakers?

    How do I get rid of the volume noise that plays when I switch from internal speakers to external speakers? I'm trying to watch something on my TV through an HDMi cable (& apple adapter) and when I go to switch the sound control in preferences from internal speakers to SONY TV, the annoying "popping" noise occurs on my TV's speakers.

    Go to Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings and check the box for error correction, and then try one of the problem CDs again.

  • Sound Preferences: switches from Internal Speakers to Digital Out

    I've been having this problem recently. I sent the computer off to Apple a few weeks ago and it helped for a while, but no longer.
    My computer has a problem with it's sound output jack or something. Without inserting anything into the plug, the Sound will change for "Internal Speakers" to "Digital Out" and to "Built-in Output" in the Sound Preferences Panel.
    Any suggestions?

    I have a 4 month old macbook and experiencing the same problem. Just realized it after installing itunes 8 and since then having a stuttering audio playback problem too. When i plug my headphones into the audiojack the sound switches from headphones to speakers and back as well as itunes playing tracks in a stop and go mode. I repaired the rights several times, installed quicktime 7.5.5 again, reinstalled itunes 8 and for sure running the latest leopard version 10.5.5.
    Also thought it could be a hardware problem but after reading this it seems more software related.
    Any idea?

  • Problems with email after switching from POP to IMAP

    I recently switched from POP to IMAP settings on my MacBook Pro (OS X Yosemite 10.10.2). My email seems to time out and then my emails seem to disappear. Then I  have to logout and re-launch every few minutes to keep seeing my emails. Everything seems to be working fine for my iPhone and it's IMAP settings. Any ideas anyone?

    That is incorrect.
    well, it always worked this way for me on all my imap accounts (I have 4).
    and I've seen lots and lots of posts describing the same behavior. I don't know what's going on in your case.
    I have two email accounts, both use IMAP IDLE, and I get the new mail sound each and every time a new mail message is delivered to either.
    So there's some other factor at work here.

  • IP Cache problem with Safari when browsing from Google

    I've been experiencing what appears to be an ARP Cache corruption problem when using Safari. It typically occurs when I've been browsing links off of a Google Search page. Tonight's specific example is where www.youtube.com is now resolved to wikipedia.com's ip address. The only way to fix the problem (short of a reboot) is to shut down the network interface and then restart (after waiting a few seconds)
    This normally fixes the problem (which is why I think its the ARP cache.)

    This sounds like it could be related to a problem between Safari 5's DNS prefetching and your router. It may be possible that your router is scrambling DNS replies. Could you try manually entering a known good DNS server like OpenDNS into your network prefs?

  • Problem with sqlplus when called from forms

    Dear friends,
    I have the following problem, we are using forms 10g and database 10g,we are using client_host command to call sqlplus from form and the query which is being run by sqlplus is supposed to take an input from the client and return results. there is no problem in that. but the problem is the sqlplus window opens only in minimized mode and the users wants it open in maximized mode by default.
    this is the code i am using to do this
    pat:='sqlplusw -s'||:global.text||'@i:\sqls\codewise.sql'
    client_host(pat);
    please help me

    I'm not sure allowing end users access to a sqlplus session is such a good idea. A savvy user having a bad hair day and becoming disgruntled could wreak havoc on your database if he/she has the right permissions. Besides, I've heard rumors that Forms is really good at accepting user input, querying the database, and displaying the results :P

  • Naming Problems with EJB when accessing from WebApplication

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to deploy an application consisting of several stateless session beans, one message driven bean and a web application. Everything works fine, until I try to log in (webapp). Then I get the following error:
    com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Path to object does not exist at ik, the whole lookup name is ik/sec/IKAuthenticationEJB.
    So the lookup name ik/sec/IKAuthenticationEJB is used in the code, whereas the JNDI Name of the requested bean is
    sap.com/Integrationkernel/IKAuthenticationEJB (As showed in the Admin Tool). I'm wondering why there is this "sap.com" as I choosed a different name for the provider (But the error remains even if I change it to "sap.com").
    As I cannot find any information about the "NameNotFoundException" I just tried the following:
    - add a "ejb-ref" section to web.xml
      <ejb-ref>
         <ejb-ref-name>ik/sec/IKAuthenticationEJB</ejb-ref-name>
         <ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
         <home>com.tsystems.ik.security.authentication.IKAuthenticationEJBHome</home>
         <remote>com.tsystems.ik.security.authentication.IKAuthenticationEJBRemote</remote>
         <ejb-link>sap.com/Integrationkernel/IKAuthenticationEJB</ejb-link>
      </ejb-ref>
    - add a web-j2ee-engine.xml to the Web Application:
         <web-j2ee-engine>
             <ejb-ref>
                <ejb-ref-name>ik/sec/IKAuthenticationEJB</ejb-ref-name>
                <jndi-name>sap.com/Integrationkernel/IKAuthenticationEJB</jndi-name>
            </ejb-ref>
         </web-j2ee-engine>
    Does anybody know what to do? Did I declare the references in a wrong way?
    Is there a complete API Javadoc available? I just found the very small one on SDN...
    Thanks a lot,
    Nadine

    Hi Nadine,
    in order to lookup ab EJB from a web component you have to declare an ejb reference (ejb-ref section) in the web.xml. The jndi name in the web-j2ee-engine.xml  can be omitted if you are sure that the information provided by the "ejb-ref" section is sufficient to identify the EJB component.
    From the example you wrote I see that the ejb-link element is not correct. According to the EJB 2.0 FR specification (Appendix B, page 518) "ejb-link element must be the ejb-name of an enterprise bean". Probably this inconsistent information misleads the EJB Container in resolving the right reference.
    My advice is simply to omit this and leave the "home" and "remote" elements. They should be enough.
    A hint: you can use the "lsn" shell command from the "naming" group to observe the JNDI tree on a particular server node.
    I hope this will help you.
    Best regards,
    Svetoslav

  • Massive sound problems in Yosemite

    Hi,
    I have been experiencing massive sound problems with Yosemite. It basically effects everything except the sound control in the control centre.
    What happens:
    I can't control the sound volume anymore. Key board sound control does not respond (sound symbol is struck out), sound bar in menu bar in greyed out.
    If sound symbols are not greyed out, the sound will stay on the level it currently is. Neither key board nor menu bar icon can change the volume.
    When it happens:
    When I plug/un-plug headphones.
    When I use iTunes. iTunes will even stop playback... the only chance to get iTunes back to normal is restarting the app.
    When I use Skype.
    Occasionally on any incident... there is no app in particular linked to this.
    What I do to get around it:
    Restarting the mac... this will help until I sent my Mac to sleep or do any of the things above.
    Accessing sound control via the control centre (which is work around, yet very annoying).
    Killing sound via terminal does not do anything.
    Btw. there is only one thing listed in the sound input/output menu.
    This problem is very annoying and occurs several times daily, especially since I work a lot with sound and music. I know this an weary argument, but considering what I paid for this machine ... bla bla bla... I need a fix.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Andy

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Yes, I have. It works pretty much like any re-start does. As soon I use headphones or send my Mac to sleep, it goes back to unresponsive sound control.
    Edit: Just tried it again and it didn't do anything. Key board sound control is still greyed out...
    Any other suggestions?

  • Sound from internal speakers keeps coming and going.

    My internal speakers aren't working consistently. One second I hear sound and then the next I hear nothing. My mac desktop will not provide sound from internal speakers.  When I go to audio devices window it only shows airplay.  How can I get internal speakers back.

    There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
    If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

    Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
    There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
