Sound quality & alert tones

my blackberry storm 9500 series 5.0 is working perfectly fine until this morning. i cant hear my msg alert tone, and tried to reset it and its the same thing nothing happened. i tried listening to my media player to and the sound just keep on cutting off. the sound quality is not really the same, sounds garbled and same as my alert tones its keeps on cutting off. is there anything i can do with it? if theres none is there a certifed blackberry technician in south california?

MMS is a carrier issue... contact Verizon and ensure your account is provisioned correctly. I would think that someone would be intelligent enough to do that before buying a new device, but......
iMessage could be an activation issue or a network issue.
Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?
Does iMessage work consistently on Wi-Fi?

IPhone not playing alert tone after switching off silent mode

Hi I have been having an issue ever since getting my iPhone 6 plus where when I take the phone off silent mode the alert tone does not play when I receive a SMS, iMessage etc. The phone vibrates but does not sound the alert tone, all other sounds work like lock sound, keyboard clicks and ring tone.
I have updated to the latest IOS 8.1.3 but the issue still seems to be happening.
I just had a chance now to troubleshoot and noticed that this has something to do with the volume control that you pull up from the bottom of the screen.
with the volume set to the minimum setting the alert tone does not play but it does play with the volume set mid-way or maximum. Depending on the volume setting depends how loud the alert tone plays.
I can reproduce the issue with these steps:
turn volume to minimum using the pull up menu at the bottom of the screen
set phone to silent using the switch on the left side of the iPhone
lock the screen
take the phone off silent mode
receive an SMS and the alert will not play.
has anyone else come across this issue? i never had this problem with my iPhone 5 and i always had the volume set to a minimum.

It sounds like you are turning down the volume for alerts with the Control Center volume control, which is like turning them down with the side buttons.
Control Center - iPhone
Control Center gives you instant access to the camera, calculator, AirPlay, and other handy features. You can also adjust the brightness, lock the screen in portrait orientation, turn wireless services on or off, and turn on AirDrop. See AirDrop.
Open Control Center. Swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen (even the Lock screen).
You may want to change the Sound Setting to not have ringer and alert volume change with buttons.
Volume controls - iPhone
Lock the ringer and alert volumes. Go to Settings > Sounds and turn off “Change with Buttons.”

Your only chance is setting it up as new device without using the latest backup afterwards, which you already did.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. I'm not able to get the Alert Tones to sound for Weather Bug weather Alerts and FOX News news Alerts.
I have the sounds turn on in the notification section, but when alerts come in there's no sound.

If the notification sound is not working, then I would recommend removing the App to get it out of Notification Center and then download it again and change the settings to see if that resolves the issue.

How do you add alert tones?

Ok I can add ringtones no problem although a bit dissapointed that there are so many restrictions on them have been able to use any sound file on my last 3 nokia phones with out a problem, but I'm unable to add new alert tones and cant find any info on how to do it so any help will be appreciated.

Simply navigate to any online music:
The Nokia Lumia 800 is a smartphone. Most smart phones let you save any music file you could find online by touching and holding your finger on it, then selecting "save." Once the music file is added to your memory card, tap-and-hold it and select "assign" from the contextual menu.
By USB cable:
The Nokia Lumia 800 is compatible with the "USB Mass Storage" norm. I connected my iPhone to my computer and sync'd it hoping that it could download my purchases from the itunes store and then put them back on to my phone but no such luck. When i look at my iphone on my computer and look at tones, they do not show up at all. However, if i click on the "On This iPhone" tab and click on "Tones" the deleted ringtones and altert tones show up...they are just grey'd out and have a dotted circle to the left of them. I also tried to go to the iTunes store on my phone and redownload them and it tells me that i have already purchased this ringtone and asks me if i want to buy it again. I press Cancel. I know when i do that with music it would usually let me redownload the song without buying it again but it wont let me with the ringtones...so how do i get them back? any help would be greatly appreicated

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

Where did my purchased Alert Tones go?

All of a sudden when I get a text its the default sound, I went to settings>sounds>text tone and both of my purchased tones are gone. It is quite fustrating that stuff dissapear like this, same thing happened with my contacts a while back. I tried syncing the alert tones onto my phone again still does not show up. I'm getting annoyed, Does anyone know how to fix this?

How do I use a voice memo as a ring tone or an alert tone?

Record your voice using iPhone (for ringtone only 35 secs or under are valid), sync iPhone with iTunes.
In iTunes the recorded voice is listed under Music as some_numbers.m4a.
Right click on the item and choose Create AAC version.
Drag the converted voice onto the desktop.
Delete the voice copy in iTunes. (important step)
On desktop, rename the some_number.m4a to something_more_intelligent.m4r
Drag it back to iTunes and you will find it under Tones.
Now select it (for sync) and connect your iPhone, do a sync.
If everything works out, it will be in Settings > Sounds > Ringtone.
Now choose a contact you want to assign this ringtone, tap Edit and add the ringtone.

6500 Slide terrible sound quality

i just replaced my SE k810 for a Nokia 6500 slide. The problem with the K810 was battery which only lasted for one day. So i thought i`d give Nokia a try. Compared to the SonyEricsson phone, however the sound quality in Nokia is terrible. When i dial a number and press the call button the phone starts buzzing in my ear and the buzzing continues throughout the call. The sound that i hear is metallic and some of the tones seem to be missing at all.
Is this a common problem with this phone? I already returned the phone back to the service but as far as i know all they do there is updating the software, which does not fix anything. 6500 slide owners please comment on the problem.

I agree, the sound quality, among other things make this the worst phone I have ever had. Nothing works on this stupid phone and no one wants to fix it because the say that it has been damaged by rain. Well, that is not strange when it is open in the top ( you charge the phone from the top, stupid feature). So I have a phone that I can't use...

Wish List - Alert tones

Based on my searches, since I'm new to the iPhone, I have found that for a few years now improved sound notifications has been a requested improvement for the iPhone. It seems that this much needed improvement has fallen on deaf ears. I hope that Apple understands the importance of this improvement. Listed here is my wish list, hopefully if enough users respond, Apple developers will address this issue.
Customizable alert tones for the following apps/features
† Email - Each domain / address must have the ability to set a unique tone
Facebook
Twitter
SMS - Beyond the pre-loaded standard tones
Calendars

Thanks On my phone, these are the options under Menu>Settings & Tools>Sound Settings>Alert Sounds: 1. TXT Message 2. Multimedia Message 3. Voicemail 4. Emergency Tone 5. Missed Call . And under Service Alerts: 1. ERI 2. Minute Beep 3. Call Connect 4. Charge Complete 5. Software Update. So nothing there for the calendar. And options from the calendar that I can see are Add (here you can change the tone for one event or recurring event, but not set a default tone for the event alarm), View (gives you the options of viewing an existing event in more detail, adding a new one, and the same choices from the Options list on the first screen where you are viewing the entire month), and Options (1. lets you view weekly/monthly, 2. Go To Today 3. Go To Date 4. Search 5. Erase All 6. Erase All Old 7. Send. So as far as I can see, there's no way to do it. I have been through all the Settings and Tools menus... and the Events menu. But...I have just discovered that if I delete ALL my alarms and change the Ringtone for the first alarm I set, that ringtone becomes the default ringtone. I will try deleting ALL my events and starting fresh with a new tone and see if that works!

I understand the purpose of the different notification sounds. The iPhone only allows 1 tone for e-mail accounts. At this time, this cannot be changed.
