Sound quality has declined in ios8 & yosomite

Just swithched to ios8 & yosomite and I feel that the way it processes music  has dramatically deteriated.  Music really sounds thin and anemic no matter the genre.  Older ios & operating systems--firmware?--played music bettter.    Now that most of my music is in the cloud I do not use my ipod that often. Now I'm being forced to use my ipod. (i'm presently listening to my macbook and I am having the same issues. So I'm certain its the new sofware/firmware at fault. It is not the hardware.)
Any idea if Apple intends to address the sound quality issues in new updated firmware?

Hi there, I have the same issue with FaceTime an ios6. When using it with iPhone 4 and 4s, the sound quality has decreased when compared to ios5. Background white noise is now reduced but low volume sounds (such as sights and whispers) are cut out too.
This is qualitatively not an improvement, and much of the warmth of former talks using FaceTime is now gone.
I do really hope there will be an answer from apple's side soon.
Cheers

My iTunes radio player sound quality has degraded, what happened?
The other day I was checking out radio stations in iTunes, after I tuned to one of them odd thigs happened, i just moved on. Now my iTunes radio sounds like i am listeneing through a box or can on all stations.
    Can anyone help?

It sounds like you blew out the paper cone that delivers the sound from the speaker. Depending on how much pressure you used to blow out would determine if the speakers are gone. From the sounds of it and your comment about it happened right after you blew air into the speakers tell me that is what happened. The speakers in an laptop are small and somewhat fragile. The edges of the paper vibrate when it receives the sound and after some passage of time they get weak and if you blew air directily on them, poof they're gone.

  • Sound quality has worsened (might be El Capitan)

I listen to Spotify a lot via headphones at work, and I noticed lately that the sound quality is pretty bad (again). Volume normalization is turned off. The sound is thin and not very dynamic. A fair bit of distortion as well. I'm running El Capitan public beta, so that might be it, but Itunes sound a lot better. Lots more bass and stereo definition.

In case someone runs into this in the future, I solved the
issue, which is still a little confusing. The sound was recorded at
a lower quality, but still sounded great when played back within a
slide. But when I previewed it, the quality deteriorated, even when
I moved the settings up to highest quality.
Once I rerecorded the audio at the highest setting, it
sounded great in both the slide and the preview.

  • HT1481 My ipod's sound quality has changed and its sound's very low. How should I fix it?

    Dear sir,
My ipod once got formatted. Now I hear low sound from my ipod.

First, make sure your headphones are working properly.  You can try them with another device, or try a different set with your shuffle.
If the headphones are fine, go to the shuffle's Settings or Summary screen in iTunes.  It's the screen that appears when you select the shuffle in iTunes.  There is a Limit maximum volume setting there.  Make sure that slider bar did not get set to a low volume.
If that does not help, you can try doing a Restore on the shuffle in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the Settings or Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If the cause is related to a problem with software or settings, the Restore should fix it.
If that does not help either, there may be a hardware-related problem on your shuffle.

  • Has anyone else noticed the lack of sound quality with FaceTime in iOS 6, over wifi?

FT has lost much of its fidelity. It gates out all the noise, which I'm sure is supposed to be better, but now it's more like like a cell phone call. Sure the warmth of sound is better, but it cuts off breaths and sighs. All the things that make it so great when talking to your kids and family when traveling on the road.
If this was the cost of getting FT over 3G, it's not worth it.

  • Sound quality/speaker problem Pearl 9105

My Blackberry Pearl 9105 seems to have a problem with the speaker. I can hear people OK but the sound quality has gone really strange - kind of buzzy/robotic and when I ring out, the dialling tone also sounds buzzy and strange. Will I need to take it to be repaired or can I sort it out myself?
    Thanks

    Hi megan_c,
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Have you tried reinserting the battery and testing again? If that doesnt resolve it, try backing up and performing a clean reload of your device software. http://bbry.lv/bpv7DT Make sure to test for the speaker issue before restoring any data from your backup file.

  • Sound quality decline in calls

After upgrading to 3.0 (in Italy, Vodafone) I'm experiencing a dramatic decline in sound quality during calls. While the signal icon is always full, the sound is "metal" and intermittent and my callers report very bad sound quality and difficult to understand words.
    Has somebody the same experience?
    Stefano

I have same issue. My new iPhone 3G S (US/ATT) sound quality on phone call is very poor. Lots of hissing noise, sometimes even it feels as though there is a small waterfall in the background. Deeply disappointed with this issue right now and in Iphone 3G s !

  • Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?

I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?

Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

  • Has the sound quality improved with the new ipods?

i have a new 80 gig ipod that sounds much better then the one i bought 3 years ago.
did apple improve the sound quality?

The audio quality has improved as Apple have been using different processors in the newer 5G iPods. I have noticed an increase in quality, however, a lot of people have also said the quality has deteriorated but I believe its up to the individuals perspective.

  • The new 338S0987 chip from cirrus logic has inferior sound quality to the old cs42L61 chip.  Can the 338S0987 chip be improved?

The new 338S0987 chip from cirrus logic, used in the new 4s has inferior sound quality to the old cs42L61 chip found in the 4 and 3G.  Can the 338S0987 chip be improved?
The new chip is very compressed and has hissing artifacts.  It sacrifices sound quality for reduced energy consumption.  This is a problem for me because I am building a musical instrument app that is adversly affected by the new cirrus logic chip.  Audio fidelity is suffering.
Is there any chance for a software/driver tweak of this chip, or my I please request an improvement on the next iphone model?

  • Has GB sound quality improved?

I am trying to determine why my garageband mix sounds so good all of a sudden. Four things were done recently:
*I cleared some space on my hardrive, allowing more scratch space.
    *I updated Quicktime 7
*Recorded my mix without monitoring or reverb
*I locked tracks as I went along, keeping the moving triangle in the white.
What I am noticing is a marked difference in sound quality. No rice crispies, crystal clear grand piano, Extraordinary guitar and harp sounds. All in all it just seems as if Garageband really came alive.
I am wondering if the new updates had anything to do with it and if others are noticing this as well. Perhaps I am finally learning to use this program correctly. : )
Anybody else noticing a difference since January's updates?
    Kurt

Kurt I bet the biggest change to the sound of your mix is probably the removal of Reverb. Quincy Jones is notorious for going around an audio mix turning off the reverb on many of the tracks. To me reverb on many tracks can start to add a lot of simulated reflective type information in a mix and that can begin to confuse the ear with a lot of underlying reflective type cues.
You may also be correct about your suspicions concerning GB's reverb quality. I have noticed that when I use Apples GB reverb and then use a compressor on the output of the Master track I begin to hear Rice Krispy type of distortions even though I am not pushing my individual track output or my Master track output.
And it could also be that GB's built in Reverb is garbage and dirties the signal in some way, that is a suspicion I have myself. When I use other third party AU's for reverb it seems to sound much clean and less "thick and heavy".
What update are you talking about? Is it for GB2 or do you mean GB3 as an update?
I have GB2 version 2.02, is there something higher?

    Realtek is default audio
Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.( Didn't Worked)
Chipset Utility - install ( Did'n't Worked Aswell)
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot. (Worked) But First The Quality Was Not As It Was Before And Then Sound Card Stopped Working Again.
    Try a System File Check
go to Run - type "sfc /scannow" No Success.

  • Why is the sound quality and volume in itunes so different than when I use other media players

This is an issue which has been vexing me for some time. I've researched it all over the web and have not found a worthwhile answer. Some other posts on these forums have asked similar questions without successful answers. But, none the less, I will try...
I have spent a lot of time over the last two years trying to get my itunes library organized as well as getting good digitized versions from my vinyl records as well as CDs. I was pleased with my results and then I added the songs to itunes. I could not believe how inconsistent the sound quality was. Invariably the volume is always lower. [Please do not post a reply such as: Check the volume controls in itunes proper as well as in itunes preferences (i.e., Sound Check, Sound Enhancer) & the Volume Adjustment in the Information pane under Options for particular songs.] I tried all of those means of adjusting volume. They do NOT work.
There is something more insidious at work in itunes which prevent good sound reproduction. I will give an example. I have played Frankie Valle and the Four Season's song "C'Mon Marianne" on the OS X system sound (i.e. clicking the play button to the song file when selected on the desktop or wherever it resides) as well as in Amadeus Pro. The song sounds great. When I play it when it's in the itunes' library the first part of the song is too lound and then when Frankie Valle starts singing his voice is at a significantly reduced volume.
I have edited the foregoing song in Amadeus Pro to a very high volume (i.e., Effects>Amplify), reloaded it into itunes and it still does not inprove the volume of Frankie's voice in the song, even though the rest of the song is somewhat louder. I have played with the Equalizer in itunes to no effect. It just does not work.
Now, I would glading move away from itunes and use another media player. However, I have other Apple devices through which I listen to music. And the only way I know of to listen,e.g., on the iphone is through itunes.
The other related problem with itune, or should I say iCloud, is icloud match. The icloud Match has taken great sounding music and given me back music of an inferior quality, even though it is a Matched AAC format.
I'm am sorry if I am a little peeved about this issue. If anyone has some suggestions or input to a solution, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks a bunch.

    fbuerg,
You are welcome. Glad my good fortune was helpful to you.
