Sound Quality ipod nano

I have recently bought an ipod nano having had a Sony hard drive walkman for a few years. The sound quality and memory size of the Sony was amazing, but if the unit moves too much it freezes so I decided to change to ipod.
I am really happy with the ipod apart from the sound quality with some of my songs.
A couple of albums (such as Andrea Bocelli) crackle during certain songs when played on the ipod even with the equalizer off or flat. They do not do this when played throught the computer with the same headphones, and I have tried recording the albums in different formats and frequencies. The majority of my albums play without any distortion.
Is there some way to overcome this?

I have had such an experience while listening to "Il Divo". I think you might have to play a round with the equalizer. It probably affects operatic songs.

  • Sound problem iPod Nano 5G

My iPod Nano 5th Gen. has the  following problem: sometimes the sound gets weird (when the headphones  are on, when they're not, the sound is too low). The sound seems cracked  and muffled. The only way to make it work again is to squeeze the area  in the bottom of the screen, even thought sometimes it's difficult to  make it work again.
This  started happening after I put the iPod in a shield case (made by  Belkin, which I believed to be a brand of trust when it came to device  accessories). The case was too tight for the iPod because it was  difficult for it to close. Even so, after I was able to close it, the  sound on the iPod wasn't working normally like it should so I took the  case off. The sound still wasn't ok so I found that way of squeezing it  in order for it to work again. I returned the case to the store.
But  the problem seems go on again, specially after I turn it off (when i  press the play bottom on the click wheel for a couple seconds) and if I  use the click wheel with the iPod resting on a plain surface. I believe  this must be a connection problem between the device and the sound.
I  would like to know if any of you ever had this problem, what else can I  do and, if there's nothing I can do to solve it, if you think that it's  worth repairing the iPod in an Apple support center (because, with the  experience I've had with another device that had a problem, sometimes  the price of repair is so high that it's cheaper to get a new device  instead of getting the actual one fixed).

You damaged a connection on the logic board when you forced it into the case.
You can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement and while you are there compare yours to the 7th Generation Nano and decide whether you want to get it replaced or get a new one.

  • Audio Encoding Quality  - ipod Nano

I am importing my music CD's into iTunes using the Apple Lossless Encoder setting to obtain the higher music quality.
When I am syncing my 7th generation iPod Nano, is it downloading the music into the player in the Apple Lossless Encoder format or is it defaulting back to the ACC encoder format?
    Thank you for your assistance.

Unless you have turned on the option to convert everything to load it then it is using Apple Lossless.

  • Videos doesn't have sound on iPod Nano

Ok, well whenever I convert my videos in iTunes using Advanced > Created iPod or iPhone version. The video converts, I play the video, and it doesn't work. It's like a mixure of colors, let's just say a black screen. And the sound doesn't work. But when I upload it into my iPod, the video works, sound doesn't. How do I fix that?

Question wasn't answered, nobody answered it....

  • Ipod Nano 5thG quality of sound

I have just bought an Ipod Nano 5thG 16gb as I needed more memory. I am very disappointed that the quality of sound is so poor compared to my other Nano (4thG). The new Nano sound is very 'tinny' compared to the 4thG and I cannot seem to adjust it so that I get the rich sound I am used to. I am used to playing opera and classical music through good earbuds. The sound when used on an Ipod speaker dock, however, is good. Does anyoneelsae have this problem?

  • IPod Shuffle vs Nano sound quality

    Hello.
I'm planning on buying the new iPod Shuffle. Is the sound quality the same as the latest iPod Nano?
    ~Matt

Haven't listened to latest (3rd Gen) nano but I do know that current shuffle sound quality is a bit less than that of 1st Gen shuffle and 1st Gen nano. But that's MY opinion, your experience may vary...

  • Ipod second Generation sound quality problem.

    Hello there,
i´ve been using my nano for 1 year without any problems, with the first version (i think 1.1.3) that came with the equipment.
The sound quality was great until i update it to the last FW. The sound quality is terrible. Very very bad.
Please, how can i reinstall the old version of the FW?
    many thanks to anyone
    Nuno

I'm having the same problem. If you find a solution please let me know. Ever since I installed the last update my nano sound quality is awful when I try to play it in my car via my iPod connector or use headphones.

  • New Ipod Touch 5g, poor sound quality?

    Hi,
I recently got given a silver ipod touch for christmas, after having had a 5G nano ipod for a few years. i had always had no problem with sound quality with that ipod. However, I have noticed that even with my Bose headphones and on my Bose dock, certain songs heavy in bass (seems to be a lot of hip hop), such as my Jay-Z and Drake albums, the bass is very bad and fuzzy and messy. It sounds terrible. I have listened to the very same songs through my Macbook Pro through headphones and there is no problem. All my music is from itunes/amazonmp3/CDs so I don't understand whether my ipod is faulty or whether this is just how the new Ipod Touch is? If so I am returning it pronto! I need my bass!

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Nano sound problem with bass

    Hello,
I bought an iPod Nano 4Go few days ago. I used to have previously a Sony HBM30 that was very good in sound quality and especially with bass.
With the iPod nano, I should say that the sound is not as good as the sony especially for bass (saturation). I encode with VBR 256kbps in MP3. The sound is very poor if I put on the equalizer and there's no way of changing bass or treeble.
So here are few questions :
1/ Is there any tips to improve bass quality in order to avoid saturation ?
2/ Is there any headphone that are better that Ipod ones for bass ?
3/ Is there any firmware in the future that could improve sound and bass ?
4/ Does Apple knows this problem ?
    Thanks for you help.
    Best regards

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Keep in mind the headphones you may be using. How are the songs in iTunes? The question is whether the songs are being sent to the iPod with good quality. If you are pleased with the songs in iTunes, then first look at the headphones you are using. Are you using the white ones that come with the iPod? Those are not the best headphones as far as sound quality goes.
Just looking for a few basic answers to those questions before trying to troubleshoot the iPod, iTunes, or the songs.
    Merry Christmas

  • Ipod nano sound not right - please help!

Hi, I got an ipod nano for my birthday today, followed the instructions and loaded it all in, loaded all my CD's into itunes, loaded them all onto the nano, but when I finally came to listen to my songs, the sound is all weird. The vocals are very quiet and out of sync with the music, and the music sounds 'distorted'. Any ideas?? All help greatly received, I'm so sad!

    Lianne:
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Boards. I assume as this is your first post that you have not used Macs or iTunes before. Have you listened to your music within iTunes on your computer? Does it sound OK there?
As a first step, I would check your settings in iTunes. Go to Preferences/Advanced/Importing and be sure the setting are at least 160kbs (High Quality).

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen sound broken.

My iPod nano 5th Gen 16g's sound quality last night got messed up and it is horrible, makes it unuseable. Also, when you change the volume, it shows that it is changing, but the sound does not change, it is "stuck" at the same volume. I tried restarting it, reformatting it (or whatever it is called) in iTunes, and nothing works. Does anyone know how to fix this, or is it a problem with the hardware that I can't fix myself?

    ipod new nano   Windows 2000

Just to expand on what Chris said.
The phono inputs of a stereo amp are designed to accept the inputs of a moving magnet (or sometimes a moving coil) phono cartridge on a turntable. These are low output devices and so the phono input is engineered to amplify the signal.
A line level output such as the iPod doesn't need such amplification and so, if you connect the iPod to the phono input of your stereo you will overload that input. The sound will be distorted and in many instances may cause damage to the speakers. The phono input is for turntables only. Connect the iPod to a line level input as previously mentioned.
The reason you will get a better sound from the iPod when connected to a stereo and using the line out port from the dock (and not the headphone jack on the iPod itself), is that the headhpone socket is powered by a low quality amp. It's meant to drive an easy load like headphones and not the input of a stereo.
