Sound quit working suddenly product number an831ua#aba
I have a hp pavilion dv6815nr serial number:cnf815imhv, p/n; an831ua#aba. I just noticed a few weeks ago that my sound on my laptop quit working. I've disabled and enabled the drivers again, windows media player doesn't even work and I can't hear youtube videos or any media for that matter. I've checked the device manager and there isn't a yellow exclamation point by the drivers. there are exclamation icons by the Ricoh memory stick controller though. The drivers names are LitexMedia Virtual Audio cable and when I click on the properties it says that the device is performing normally. I'm lost. Please help.

Messaging quits working suddenly
I messaging quits working suddenly, then later, an hour or two will start working again. Have tried rebooting, logging off wifi and reconnecting, logging off apple and reconnecting. Nothing I do works, then later it starts working again. Help!!
Hello Macintexas,
It sounds like Messages is only intermittently working on your iPad mini. I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with sending and receiving messages.
I recommend reviewing the sections titled "If you can't send or receive messages" and "If you still can't send or receive iMessages" in the article listed below. Step 2 specifically is applicable for the symptoms you are experiencing with Messages:
2. To send and receive iMessages, your device must have a valid cellular or Wi-Fi data connection.

Sound quit working with game apps?
Sound quit working with my game apps and email.
Radio, facetime & music work fine.
Has anyone had this issue?
I did not change any settings.
It worked fine yesterday and today no sound. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

Sound quit working on MacBook Pro
sound quit working on macBook. have tried all PRAM/SMC resetting ideas. it seems that in SysPrefs/Sound/Output........"internal speakers" is no longer listed, and mute is checked. how can i re-add "internal speakers" as an output option?
There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
11. Reset the NVRAM.
12. Reset the SMC.
13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store. -
The sound has been inconsistant for the last day or so and now it completely stopped. The message in System Preferences>Sound is: "The selected device has no output contros". I'm at a loss as to what happened, why the sound suddenly quit working. Any suggestions or thoughts on how to fix this will be appreciated.
Plug the headphone into and out of the socket few times, to turn off the digital sound swich.

These speakers have worked forever! Now they suddenly quit working. Plugged them into my iPod and they work fine. Headphones likewise don't work on the iMac. Seems to be a problem with the port and not the speaker system. Internal speakers work ok, but are far inferior to the Bose system. Are there some diagonstics I can run on this particular port? Shouldn't be a software problem (I'm running Lion10.7.5)
This solved my problem: in HARDWARE - Sound Preferences, I selected OUTPUT. I highlighted Headphone Port, (It was not originally highlighted), and then performed a complete shutdown (not restart). Re-booted, launched iTunes and the Bose speakers were working, as were the headphones.
This may not work for everyone, but it worked for me. Good Luck! -
Trying to get the sound working again on my ipad 2. I have a Logitech keyboard case I use with my ipad 2. Last night the sound quit but I don't know why. I've tried everything and can't get the sound back again. Help!
HI there,
There are a couple things you can try. The first thing I would recommend is resetting all settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. If that doesn't work, take a look at the article below for additional troubleshooting steps.
Note: The article title impies that it is for iPhones, but the troubleshooting steps are still aplicable to iPads.

Sound quit working but this solves the problem
Good news.......It seems that a lot of people are having the same problem with sound suddenly not working, even though all diagnostic test indicate that it is on. I unplugged the power and took out the battery for about 5 minutes. When I powered back up ......... the sound was working just fine. Give it a try. Toshiba does need to address this issue. I'm going to send in a complaint and suggest that others do the same.

Game lockscreen keyboard sounds quit working
Just posted about my lockscreen and keyboard sounds suddenly stop working and now I have lost all game sounds. The game sounds were working only a couple of hours ago and now nothing! What do I do now?!
Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085 -

My message sounds quit working
My message sounds stopped working, any suggestion?
Hi FMBERARDI,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Start with these steps if you do not hear sound from your iPhone when using Messages:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

Does anyone have any suggestions about this problem? I can't believe that my phone is less than 2 months old and it already quit working.... I do not have it on mute, I tried plugging the ear jacks in and out. I have not dropped it, no moisture, and etc
Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
If you've been through ALL of these steps and you still have problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation. -
