Sound Recording. Leaving PC recording sound

Hi!, i need to leave the PC recording sound during my day work, usually around 10 hours, so i want a CLI app or command, to leave the computer recording for several hours, then, when back home, open the sound in audacity and see if there are anomalyes, so i can "see" the sound and view if there are unwanted noises in the house when its alone, (NOTE: I KNOW ITS FUNNY, but i need achieve this to se f my dog do a lot of barking and noises and see if the neighbors have reason to complain...)
i read that i can do that with the rec command something like:
rec test.ogg + CTRL C + play test.ogg
But i need a format to record that not fills my hard drive and has a minimun quality to anderstand whats happening home, (what things my dog is destroying, lol) so i can record 9-10 hours

How much space do you have?
I was playing around with rec and I was able to do rec -c 2 test.mp3 (-c 2 gave me two channels)
If you do something like that then open up the file in audacity after the 10 hours, you should be able to see where there is noise and where there isn't.
You'd have set a capture in alsa for your mic, and you'd probably want 1 channel instead of two. You could just simply run the command in terminal and hit ctrl+c when you get home, or you could setup a crontab.

  • Recording audio from the web without recording sound from the internal microphone...

Is there a way to record audio sound sources, for example a webcast in a browser, without without also recording sound thru the built in internal microphone on the MacPro laptop running Mountain Lion?

You need something along the lines of Audio Hijack Pro or WireTap Studio.  The latter is currently broken in Lion and Mountain Lion for your purposes, so that leaves Audio Hijack Pro.  Neither is free, but both are worth their asking price (well, WireTap Studio will be once they deign to repair it).

  • Sound recorder playback volume low ?

I have a dv6000 notebook , for the first time ever I tried recording sound using windows movie maker  to add ''narration'' but the playback volume is very low .
I tried the windows '' sound recorder '' and got the same result .
I've been through all the standard adjustments and settings and have gone into  ' control panel ' and adjusted 'levels' and everything else with no success .
When I record a video using the sound on my camera the volume is fine - it's just the mic sound that is low whether I use an external mic or the built in ones .

I have the same issue and I see no responses to your inquiry..  This Windows help menu leaves much to be desired.  Im sure I will one day figure out how to work this version that I had no clue I was buying bc it should come with a warning label..  its completely different and agonizing  and great help menu lovely.. Im sorry to be so negative  wish I could help.. Ill sit here all night till I figure it out and then post an option on how to adjust the recording volume.. Unreal..

It also takes time for the photos to be transferred out of your iPhone and into Photo stream on Apple's iCloud servers.
Note that this can't happen if your iPhone is not connected to a WiFi network:
When you enable My Photo Stream on your devices, all new photos you take or import to those devices will be automatically added to your photo stream.
iOS devices: New photos you take are automatically uploaded to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. My Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections.
Macs: Any new photos you import to iPhoto or Aperture begin uploading automatically when you have a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. Or you can change your iPhoto or Aperture preferences so that only photos you manually add to My Photo Stream are uploaded.
PC with iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later: Open a Windows Explorer window and under Favorites select iCloud Photos if you are using iCloud Control Panel 3.0 (or Photo Stream if you are using 2.0 to 2.1.2). Open My Photo Stream. Click the "Add photos" button. Select the photos to import to My Photo Stream, then click Open.

  • Problem with muted sound in garageband recording

I have used GB for years to record male vocal without any issues until this week.  Now all my recordings sound 50 miles away - what am I doing wrong?  Here is a rundown of my recording routine . . .
    Open GB New Project
Select Voice option and click 'choose'
In 'save as' window I give my project a name and click 'create'
In 'tracks' I command delete 'female basic'
In 'real instrument' I select 'vocals' and 'male basic'
In 'input source' I select 'mono 1 (built-in input)
    In 'monitor' I select 'off'
I don't usually check 'automatic level control'
In the 'edit' tab I change nothing
In the GB toolbar I select 'preferences' where I only make sure that 'audio output' is set at 'built-in output' and 'audio input' is set at 'built-in input'
In the GB toolbar I make sure that 'metronome' is not selected and leave 'snap to grid' selected, as well as, 'show measures in LCD' selected
I then plug in my mic receiver (that's probably not it's real name) in to power and also into my computer jack
I open the 'track editor' - turn on my label mic - click record in GB and test the mic to make sure that it is ready to go
Since upgrading to Lion, however, the look of GB has changed some so when I open 'track editor' an 'audio region' appears on the left but I make no adjustments there.
I am wondering if I have some of my settings wrong.  And now that the recording is complete, is it too late to resolve this issue and salvage my project?

You are probably an experienced computer-audio user, so may not apply to you, but possibly more to others viewing this thread. I was fooled by a similar problem recently. Are you by chance using microphone-enabled earphones? They may not support listening on a computer. If there is a pause button built in to the microphone, try pressing it while listening; does the sound improve? Mine are JVC HAFR36S.

  • Audiobooks stop playing and start repeating a sound (like a broken record). Music plays as it should. Any suggestions?

Audiobooks (from Audible) play until the later chapters in the books. Then, it stops playing, and sounds like a broken record stuck on one sound. I've tried re-syncing. I've restored factory settings and I've deleted the book from the library and reloaded it into iTunes. Any suggestions? It's happened with more than one book.

I have the same issue and went to the genius bar. They tried something in iTunes but it didn't work. So they proposed me to leave them my computer for a few days so that they can figure out what this is. Unfortunately I cannot do that right now.
I am really interested in a solution

  • Record imovie with iSight, but sound with a M-BOX?

I see this question has been addressed in two places:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6938590&#6938590
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7160382&#7160382
I've gone to system pref's and the M-Box shows up as an input device. I select it, but as soon as I leave that menu, and then return to it, it shows the internal mic as being selected.
In iMovie I can select the M-Box for a "voiceover" tool, but when I try to capture a video and capture the audio there is no option to select the M-Box. I assume it is defaulting to system pref's, and the M-Box doesn't stay selected in system pref's. It's about halfway down the menu, and even if I select it, when I return it's back to internal mic.
When I try to record the video it is obviously still using the internal mic on my macbook pro, which sounds terrible! Help!

    No thoughts anybody? Bump.

  • How do I remove the "empty hall" sound of a voice recording?

I have a recording of an interview done in a guys 10x10 "empty" office. It sounded like he's recording in his bathroom. Does anyone know how to clean up this audio so it sounds a little more like it was done in a sound booth?
What I have is a mixed version that has a little music under his voice. He mixed it over his voice trying to hide the "I recorded my webcast from my bathroom" sound...
I'm not sure how to post it here, but I could email anyone some of the audio if you'd like to play with it.
    Thanks for your help!

    > So reducing any resonant frequency will have to alter the sound of the original stimulus - it's completely unavoidable.
Correct. EQ will affect whatever is in the recording. That means it affects the original stimulus plus resonant effects of the room. The fact that EQ affects the original stimulus in the recording is a drawback; but it does not mean the technique never will work.
    > And by and large it has been found that altering the EQ like this makes things worse, not better.
This depends on the recording: the nature of the resonance, the decay time, etc. If resonance in the recording described in message #1 is the most distracting problem, then reducing resonance through EQ may yield an improvement.
You repeatedly emphasize that EQ will affect the original stimulus. Clearly you are very focused on this aspect of using EQ. Yes. It will affect the original stimulus. We already comprehend this. No one suggested otherwise. Got it. Agreed. :).
Moving on: the fact that EQ affects the original stimulus in the recording is a drawback to using EQ. Yet that may still be preferable to leaving the resonance in the recording. As you state, EQ will alter the desired sound (original speaker's voice) along with the sound one attempts to attenuate. So it is safe to conclude that the outcome will not be perfect.
Nevertheless, given an imperfect world in which a recording that was made has the unfortunate quality of sounding like it was made in a bathroom (as the original poster described it), using EQ to reduce resonant frequencies may indeed yield an improvement.
    > you clearly haven't the faintest idea of what you are talking about, and obviously haven't tried this.
More overstatements. I suggest a modicum of nuance.
Back to the FAQ you cited: it does contain a reasonable suggestion regarding EQ. ozpeter recommended trying a parametric EQ. This is a reasonable thing to try because it may yield an improvement. Mind you, not a guaranteed improvement, but nevertheless it is worth a try.

  • Start SOUND BLASTER LIVE recording from the command li

    Hi everybody!
I have a Sound Blaster Li've card and have installed Creative Wave Studio ver 4.06
I leave the computer turned on all night long. What I would like to do is find a way that
the Sound Blaster Li've card could start and a way to stop recording automatically at
a set time; for example start recording a radio show at 4am and stop recording at 5am.
( For now I am using Windows task scheduler to call up a program I wrote to begin
the recording by issuing keystroke: "control r" but I am having problems stopping it by
    issuing "control t")
Could someone tell me if there is a way through command line to start and stop?
Perhaps just writing a batch file?
    Thanks,
    Frank

Well, I found that one of the problems was the screen saver kicked in and would
keep certain software from getting its Windows Message through to the acti've
window. So now I am experimenting with no screen saver.

  • Yamaha ES Rack -Setup to hear sounds while recording

I am running my radium controller USB to Computer then USB from Computer to Yamaha Rack. I have audio output set to my M Audio SOLO though dont have ES connected to it.
I have set up the ES to USB (in utility) and created a multi track midi in the environment.
    1. Do I set the port for the multi instrument to PORT 1 or to Yamaha ES rack?
    2. Do I need to do anything else in the environment other than create multitrack instrument and enable channels (I did 4)?
3!! How can I hear the ES sound while I am recording?
Thank you so much in advance..Im 15 hours in and read every forum I can find..NO answer..
By chance does anyone have the .lso file for the rack?
    Mr Hep

    Hey Scott
You and ALOT of people are attempting to do this, myself included.
Unfortunately at this point (to my knowledge) it's a pretty CRAP setup involved that will likely leave you frustrated.
    HOWEVER:
A few things CAN be done:
IF you are getting live audio from your partner over the internet, you can re-direct that audio directly into Logic using a program called SoundFlower.
There are a few alternatives to SoundFlower, like JackTrip, and.....(the name eludes me)
(SoundFlower is from a company called Cyling 74 who also makes Max MSP. )
Once in Logic, you set your audio inputs to the track to be Soundflower. (either 16 inputs, or in this case 2)
That all being said, regardless to speed, you are still going to experience latency in the connection, and THAT is the part that will likely drive you to the mad house.
THIS all being said, I believe there are websites out there that are set up to actually do this kind of thing, (at least there WERE) but likely membership costs, and other "hidden" problems that you only learn about after you have signed on the dotted line. (Hopefully I am wrong?)
If you don't need to do a "live jam", there are always solutions like DropBox that work very well for exchanging large files quickly.
If you want to record live MIDI input from his keyboard, I am unaware of any solutions for this.
Due to the popularity of the iPad, you might want to look into the App store, and see if there is something available.
    Good luck!

  • Capturing/recording/saving front camera as video (with sound)

    hi,
would it be possible to record a video with sound (front camera) on mobile devices (ios and android)?
i need to save the video on a webserver when it's finished recording.
i don't want the user to leave the main app so it would be necessary to use a custom recording solution.
anyone knows how to achieve this?
    cheers,
    marc

  • IPhone Sound Recording?

    Can the iPhone record sound?
    Vincent

Vincent, a little more info for you: when the phone was able to be "jailbroken" there were a couple of programs you could install that recorded sound very well, and let you email the files, etc. So, Apple may include something like that in the future.
Also, some people on this board have pointed out that you can leave yourself voicemails which you can play back easily with visual voicemail if all you're looking for is a way to store some thoughts short-term.

  • Can't hear recorded sound during video playback

I take a lot of videos of my kids.  I have noticed lately that the volume is low or muffled...you can't hear what is being said even if they are screaming 6 inches away.  I thought maybe something had gotten into the microphone, etc.  I recorded a voice memo and on playback i could hear what was recorded just fine at a normal level. Now once I tried to record a video of my kids talking, it played back so low that i can't hear anything and that is with the volume turned wide open.  Not really sure what this issue could be but if the volume works fine on voice memo wouldn't it work the same on video playback?

    Hi there AmPriSi,
It sounds like you may be experiencing a microphone issue with your iPhone. Use the following article to help you address this issue:

  • No sound after recording MIDI using cycle mode take folder

I'm going through the Apple Certified training book "Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express 9". My project and global settings are pretty close to what comes with Logic when you install them. I.e. I haven't been messing with any settings not explicitly described in the book.
I'm at the chapter on MIDI recording, and am learning about MIDI cycle recording to a take folder. (I've already done this successfully for audio.) But, Logic does not seem to be behaving the way the book describes. I have recorded 3 takes. I see a MIDI take folder region after I've recorded, and I can double-click or click the arrow on the top left to reveal the 3 takes. All 3 take regions are white - as though none are selected. The region in the actual track (the take folder) above all three takes is green. When I try to play, in any combination (ie, Soloed, not soloed, other tracks all muted, no tracks muted) I cannot hear the MIDI take. I tried selecting the three different takes, both by clicking on them, and choosing from the drop down menu on the top-right of the take folder. I see the notes in the take folder display (the one that is green) changing when I select a different take, but the takes themselves always stay white. Although, the region header for the take becomes darker, as though the region is being selected, but the region is not green.
Is there something I'm missing here? Why can't I hear anything from these takes? I can open up each take in the Piano Roll editor, and click on the keyboard keys to hear notes, as well as clicking on the notes themselves and hear those. But when playing, I get no sound.
I tried "flattening" this take folder. It creates 3 new tracks below the current track. All regions are again white, and clicking on them does not make them turn green. I can play, and I hear all three takes playing at the same time. If I try to mute one of the tracks, ALL three tracks become muted, as though the mute button has been grouped to all these tracks. But I looked at the mixer and do not see any other channels have been created, not even for these new tracks. And they have not been assigned to a group either.
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if this is a known bug?
    Rob

    Rob Ross wrote:
I tried this again on the same track, a few bars away. It worked this time. I've tried it 3 times now, and each time worked as expected. So I'm thinking this is a bug in Logic that caused the problems the first time?
The "white" takes are muted >>regions<<, not tracks.
You should be able to unmute (demute?) then using the "mute" tool.
And... I believe you are correct, this is a bug in Logic that's been around for a while.

  • Problem with recording and sound on Pavilion ze1000 series

I have an old Hp Pavilion ze 1250 running Windows XP (sp2) with 1gb  Ram.
I'm trying to convert some cassette tapes to digital (with Audacity).
My problem:  When I try to record using Audacity, it records about 10 seconds and then hangs.  When I click Stop and try to play the 10 seconds back, it freezes and won't play anything.  (After that, even if I import an mp3 file to work on, it won't play that either.)  It also causes all the sound to go off throughout the computer.  Songs will "play" in WMP but there's no sound in the speakers or headphones.  (The Microsoft logo music won't play either when I turn the computer off.)  I've tried resetting the volume and checking if anything is muted. Nothing .
I restart the computer and everything is fine.....sound works and Audacity plays.....until I try to record again.
I thought that this was only an Audacity problem....until I tried to record 60 seconds through Sound Recorder.  The exact thing happens.  It records about 10 seconds of audio, then freezes and refuses to playback.  All the sound goes off throughout the computer and nothing solves it except Restart.
My sound/audio device is Conexant AC-Link Audio.
The Sound Playback, Sound Recording, Voice Playback, and Voice Recording are all defaulted to HP VIA Audio.
I have updated the audio driver.  Recording is enabled.  Is there something else I need to do?
    Thanks.

    Thank you for your reply.
I'll try some of those suggestions and see if that helps.
