Sound shuts off sporadically

on my 5g the sound just stops ( or doesn't play). there is no sound output from either jack. This has happened in the middle of a podcast. then later has come on and then stopped again. Everything else seems to work ok. resetting and then the new 1.2 update did not help. any suggestions before I bring it back? Thanks...

hi Kimmi!
The third one... the sound shuts off about 10 seconds into playing the video.
first head into your "about" screen on your ipod and check to see what software version you have installed on the ipod:
Where's the iPod About screen, and what's in it?
if you've got a 1.1, try upgrading to 1.1.1. see:

why do the sounds shut off without changing settings on my 4s? They come back when they want.

  • All sound shuts off

Ihave a problem where all sound shuts off and restarting does not necessarily fix it. Applicatins work, but can't talk on phone. Anyone else have this problem? Is it a heating issue or something else?

apparently you are restarting the phone incorrectly.
to reset the phone press and hold the sleep button and home button at the same time until you see a silver apple. DO NOT slide to turn off at the screen prompt, just keep holding those buttons until you see the apple.

  • Sound shuts off during video

    Hi,
I put three music videos in mp4 format on my ipod. Two of them play great (video and audio). The third one... the sound shuts off about 10 seconds into playing the video. How can I fix this? I used xilisoft dvd to ipod converter software.

  • Toshiba 56HM195 picture and sound shut off; blue light still on

The sound and picture will randomly shut off together but the blue light on the front under the screen stays on.  The tv will not respond to the remote or the buttons on the side.  I have to unplug then plug it back in and it will work fine for several hours before doing it again.  I have tried replacing the lamp but that did not change anything.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Try leaving the TV unplugged from power over night. If the problem persists, it may require servicing.

  • Sound shuts off

so i've been listening to music on my new mac book and in the last hour the sound has just all of a sudden shut off 4 times. it crackles and then disapears, i turn it up and hear crackling and then down and hear crackling. Then when i restart its there. ANy one else had this problem.

I have my external speakers on when it happens. When I'm using my MacBook off of the battery and not listening to anything, the speakers crackle and I hear a buzz sound. When I press play in iTunes or anything with sound, it comes in with no problem. I know I don't have a problem, but the OP should have his MacBook checked out by someone and/or give Apple Care a call.

  • On Monday, all my phone sounds shut off

I know it sounds crazy, but this has been happening for about 4 weeks. I wake up late Monday morning, because, while my alarm is technically going off, my phone makes no sound. There's no ringtone, no text alerts, no app alerts, no keyboard clicks and, most annoyingly, no alarm sound. There are no sounds throigh earphones or my bluetooth. Since it is early in the morning, I have not tried to make a call to see if that works. All I have to do is shut it off and turn it back on and the sounds come back. I've been having many sound issues since the begining of September, first with not getting a sound alert for Facebook alters(but I do get them if someone private messages me on Facebook) and after the iOS update, my email sound stopped, even though I have all the places where I can set sounds to On. All of my other apps work finr(except on Mondays). I have a 4S that is not quite a year old and have updated to iOS6. This Monday issue happened after the update. I hadn't made any changes to the sounds scheme before this happened. If anyone can help out, that woudl be much appreciated!

I always leave my phone's sounds on at night, so the switch on the side is on. Plus, once I restart the phone, the sounds work. I never use Do Not Disturb, plus I do get visual alerts. I usually try to remember to shut down all programs before bed, but I will make sure to remember next Sunday. I'd really rather not reset my phone!
    Thanks,
    Erin

  • Sound shuts off after lengthy time not in use

    Hello all -
Upgraded to new 2G Nano last week. Setup, firmware, iTunes7 all work fine. Play on Nano for the most part is fine. One very repeatable annoying issue occurs though:
    Steps:
    1. Play an audiobook or song
    2. Pause the play and leave the Nano for a period of time (in my case > 1 hour)
    3. Return to Nano and press play to restart at point of pause
At this point I expect to begin hearing from where I paused the audiobook or song. Instead the sound is muted (no sound at all) and I see the time lapse indicator ticking away.
    I then ...
    4. Paused the playback
    5. Go to any other song on the Nano and begin play
    6. Verify sound is back to normal (has been for all tests)
    7. Go back to paused audiobook/song and start play again
At this point, the sound has returned.
Obviously - this is very annoying, especially if I am listening to audio books to have to go through steps 4-7 all the time.
Anyone else have this issue? Is this a possible software issue (iTunes 7 had me install latest 1.0.1 software for 2G Nano)? Or could it possibly be a unit issue for me to have local Apple Store technician take a look?
    Any feedback is appreciated!

Yes! I have basically the same thing with my 8Gb. In my case, it affects only Audiobooks. In fact, every audiobook has the same issue. However, no song or podcast has the issue.

  • Why does my iPad shut off sporadically?

I have had my iPad mini for about 6 weeks . It will turn itself off at any time even in the middle of typing this! What is the problem?

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
If that does not help, take the Mini to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs check it out to see if there is a system fault.

  • Headphones calling/sound shuts off Droid x2

I love my droid x2 but ever since the first week I bought it back in October 2011, if headphones were plugged in it would randomly call the last number I dialed repeatedly. Sometimes I called some one 100x. I use my phone alot for podcast/music while at work. So now my biggest problem is any slight movement in the headphone causes it to pause/stop/or even play through the speaker. Thats not a good thing, because I listen to stuff that if started playing through speakers could get me fired lol. I was just hoping other people have this problem or if anyone knew if this is covered under extended warranty only. I was going to get a better warranty when I first got my phone but when I bought my phone the lady told me the warranty was $250 which is more than I paid for the phone. Now I hear what she told me wasn't true. IDK what the deal was with that. Anyways, like I said I love my phone, I just would love to be able to use it.

Kramme - Have we been able to assist you with your headphone/audio issue? We definitely do not want you to get in trouble because the audio starts playing out loud!
Please let us know as we would like to help out if you still need assistance.

  • After I upgrade maverick my display will suddenly shut off but my sounds is still working. Need help

After I upgrade maverick my display will suddenly shut off but my sounds is still working. Need help on this? Thank you

    Hello rodamitjr,
It sounds like your iMac display will turn off unexpectedly, but you can tell the computer is still on because you hear audio.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to an external display.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but this step specifically stands out to me for the issue you described:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the full article here:

My iMac turns on the start up chime sounds, you see the apple icon on the screen and then it just shuts off.  Any ideas?

    Do these two resets:
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • TS1574 optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?

optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?
this happened after taking out the head-phones. Now even after pressing CMD+ALT+P+R when booting - the sound of booting appeares BUT after the desktop is ready the sound doesn't work and sound buttons show the sign "circle with crossed line"

If there is a red light visible in the audio output port, the switch id stuck.  Insert the earphone jack a few times.  If that fails to trip the switch, try a toothpick or similar device and jiggle it inside the port.  If that fails, try a shot or two of compressed air.  If still no success, go to a repair facility.
    Ciao.

  • Don't have AirPlay but window pops up to sign in and shuts off my sound

I constantly have a window pop up to enter a password for AirPlay. I don't own an AirPlay, but when the window asks me to sign in, it shuts off my sound. Then I have to go into system preferences and select Internal Speakers to get sound again. I do this about 20x a day. I don't know how to make this stop! I live in a dorm so I can't go find the owner of the AirPlay and make them turn it off or whatever. Can anyone help me?

Make sure  Airplay  is not selected as a Default device in  Audio  Setup.
