  • UT2004 enhancement pack not that great, sound skipping

    I have a slight problem with this enhancement pack. In general i like the new sounds very much, they are more detailed and punchier, but problem is that half of sounds is just skipped. And it's very annoying when you just don't hear any fire sounds from rifles, especially machine gun and pulse gun (plasma gun) are extremelly sensiti've to this, though lightning gun tends to "lose" the sound too. Basically all weapons do, just these above do it more often.
    I have X-Fi Xtreme Music, using latest drivers 2.09.000, have installed latest OpenAL driver, all options are correctly set in UT2004 (HW+EAX, reverse unchecked, System Driver unchecked).
    I also checked UT2004.ini and it has 20 voices enabled. Thing that bothers me is "channels" setting which is set to 24. What is this setting meant for?
    Also how can i get this sound skipping(missing sounds) problem fixed?
    Thx

    Soundblaster are total losers. Their latest driver didn't change anything since the last one which is almost a year ago. I sent an email to the tech support and since he was too dumb to give me any answers, he pretended that my warrenty was outdated so he couldn't help me... whatever god****it. Sound doesn't crack but keep skipping in EVERY recent OpenAL games such as Quake 4, Prey, UT2004 "with new patch". Here is what I wrote:
    Hello, since I'm a fan of Unreal Tournament, I've downloaded the "enhencement" patch from Soundblaster a few houres ago here. soundblaster.com/products/x-fi/technology/ut2004/
    Like always, soundblaster always make things appear like if they were godlike. The description is totaly fake. Here is what I gotta say about it:
    - FPS Improvement? Didn't notice anything better since I was already pretty over 60fps and I doubt that it's a huge improvement anyway.
    2- There is no such things about hearing bullets falling on the ground. I don't know if they take us for idiots but all they did is modify the sound of the primary fire from the Minigun to make it look like if we could hear falling bullets.
    3- They only modified weapon sounds and for those that are diffrent, they are extremly worse.
    4- There is nothing that feels more surround "I have a Creative Inspire T7700 7.". From the test that I've done, they only made the weapon sound louder to make it feel like if it would be in surround. You would already hear them from diffrent channels before but since they weren't as loud it was not as evident.
    5- I was starting to think with Quake 4 and a little also with Prey, that it was developpers of games that were too dumb to make a working OpenAL but now when I use OpenAL on this new patch of UT2004, it bugs just like Quake 4 so it looks like the dumb*ss is soundblaster. You can clearly notice sound skipping/cutting when firing with double assault riffle and few other weapons.
    6- In the UT2004.ini if you change the default "Channel = 24" to 28, you get no sound at all. Then if you put it at 64, it just seem worse than 24 so how the hell are we suppose to get 28 voices with this new patch?! Before that patch, I had no problem in 64 though 64 sounded the same as 32.
    7- The dynamic music seemed to be a cool feature on "papers" but in-game it is acctualy just annoying. Yes we can disable it but why the hell haven't soundblaster made a checkbox in the option? Messing in console with commands is annoying and impossible for the novice user.
    8- All the above lead me to wonder if we ABSOLUTLY need an X-Fi WITH X-Ram in order to have no issue. Even though Quake 4 is as buggy with or without X-Ram.
    Please I'd like to have some feedback/answers to this. Thanks in advance.

  • VLC sound skipping every 9 seconds

    Hi,
    I wondered whether anyone here had this issue and if they were able to resolve it. I got the sound skipping fairly recently, I think after VLC 2.0.1 and it's not resolved yet with the current VLC 2.0.4-3.
    It occurs both in videos and mp3s.
    It doesn't happen with the deadbeef audio player.
    In movies, the sound stays synchronized.
    Others have reported the bug for Windows on the VLC tracker: http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/6498
    I have those movies and songs on an NTFS drive, but it was the same when I copied them to my btrfs system drive.

    Hi Lone_Wolf,
    thanks for the suggestion, but I am using alsa instead of phonon. I installed phonon with phonon-gstreamer but couldn't find it in VLC's audio output modules. I also tried doing
    modprobe snd_hda_intel power_save=0
    as suggested in the alsa wiki for solving popping and cracking but that didn't do anything either.
    I'll keep looking.

  • Sound Issues HP Pavilion dv6-6158nr Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello,
     I have HP Pavilion dv6-6158nr Entertainment Notebook PC with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS. Recently I noticed issues with how my volume control works. I am not sure if it's an application issue (Firefox 9/10) or audio drivers. While watching playing an audio file or watching video my default playback device is set to speaker, but as soon as I plugin my headphones both headphones and speakers will go to mute. Some times disabling and re-enabling the device will solve this issue, and other than that I also have to restart Firefox to get the sound back.
     Tried installing all the available updates form windows, also reinstalled/update the sound drivers as n admin with no possible fix. Also as shown in picture below, when I try to make a Google call using Firefox I use built-in mike an headphones. During that time headphones icon will be appeared in the window shown below listed as communication device and disable both audio in/out.
    Let me know if any further information is required.
    Thanks.

    First uninstall the audio driver:
    Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager. >> Audio, video and game controlar >> right click and uninstall all values under it >> restart >> download and install the following drivers:
    BIOS
    Audio

  • Loss of sound on HP Pavilion dV6000 - Vista

    I've suddenly lost sound on my dV600 laptop.  Volume control shows 100% and small green bar moves when sound should be heard.  This is affecting all sound:  internet, cd's, stored music, etc.  Sound is fine when I plug in a headphone or external speaker.  Mixer shows "internal speaker/headphones" as the application - icon shows a headphone.  Other than a Window's update, I've changed nothing.   Can anyone help ?   Thanks.

    You may have a driver issue, try uninstall the audio driver from add/remove programs in control panel.
    Download and install vista audio driver from your support page.

  • Brightness & light colored font-bad sound on HP Pavilion All-in-One, 20-b013w

    I help correct learners of English, and when I record the sound on playback is horrible.  I purchased a new mic, but the problem still exist.  Seems like a lot of noise in the background.  A big problem I have with the monitor is the brightness and light color of font.  It is so light that it is very hard to read.  For instance on this page, the blue lettering is hard to read with the screen being so white.  I have a HP Pavilion 20 All-in-One, 20-b013w, and have the Windows 8 on the computer.
    How can I improve the sound when I record using a microphone, and is it possible to darken the font and maybe change the contrast?  I am not a computer expert by any means, so if someone can help me I would be very thankful.

    Hello leatherneckco.  I understand you're having some trouble with your microphone and your screen's brightness.
    What program are you using to record your audio?  Have you tried recording in another application?
    A good first step is to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.  Try the following.
    From either the Metro or Desktop view press the Windows+X key combination.  This opens the Context Menu.
    Select Device Manager.
    Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
    Right click on your sound card and select Uninstall.
    After the uninstallation has completed you should reboot your notebook.
    Once Windows loads it will reinstall the device.
    Verify whether the issue persists and post the result.
    You can adjust your brightness by following these directions or using the monitor's physical buttons.  This document can show you how to change the settings related to your computer's fonts.
    I'll keep an eye out for your reply.  Have a good day.

  • Flash sound skipping problem

    When using Firefox 3.0.8 - as the site starts up, the music plays a couple of notes of song 1, stops and then restarts song 1; giving a "skipping" effect.
    When using IE 7.0.5730.13-  as the site starts up, the music plays a couple of notes of song 1, stops and then starts song 2; giving a worse "skipping" effect.
    This only happens when the site starts up. Once the music is playing it cycles through the songs just fine. The play/pause button works fine too.
    What am I doing that is causing this behavior? Help?
    I am using Flash CS3, ActionScript 2.0, the songs are in the same folder as the .swf and are named music1.mp3, music2.mp3, music3.mp3.
    Here is what I have in frame 2 on the script layer:
    var mysong = new Sound();
    _root.mysong.onLoad = function (loadedOK) {
    if(loadedOK) {
        _root.mysong.start(0,1);
    _root.mysong.onSoundComplete = function () {
        nextSong(1);
    currentSong = 0;
    maxSongs = 3;
    function nextSong (changeVal) {
        currentSong += changeVal;
        if (currentSong > maxSongs) {
            currentSong = 1;
        _root.mysong.loadSound("music"+currentSong+".mp3", true);
    nextSong(1);
    Code in frame 1 (play) of the volume control movie:
    stop();
    _root.mysong.start(playHeadPos/1000,1);
    Code in frame 2 (pause) of the volume control movie:
    stop();
    playHeadPos = _root.mysong.position;
    _root.mysong.stop();

    frame 2 only plays once?

  • Sound skipping on MacBook Pro

    Hey everyone. A few months ago I bought a macbook pro and it has worked until two days ago. since that day my sound keeps skipping, it doesnt matter what i do it still skips. I've tried playing audio in iTunes, Youtube, Soundcloud, Quicktime and VLC mediaplayer. I've also tried running just itunes or just vlc but still the audio skips. I've not changed any of the audio settings, i know the audio files are fine and I've tried the MBP's speakers, 2 headphones and my normal external speakers and nothing works.
    Please help!

    I have had this problem with almost every intel mac laptop i've had, honestly... apple should fix/replace their computers for free just because they have this issue and reports of this happening (not to mention the other issues). Being an advanced programmer I can tell you it is NOT software related. Resets (pmu etc.), restarts, OS downgrades, and software scripts will not help you here. Unfortunately I am not as skilled with the I/O hardware as I am with programming (I have tried every possible code dealing with sound and I/O).
    My most recent intel macbook which I am typing on now started experiencing problems when the digital/headphone jack was diagnosed with the 'red light syndrome' and unfortunately all suggestions I found did not work, you know... the paperclip/toothpick trick, I was extremely upset that I payed for a mac (which I stood behind since the beginning) that was supposed to be more advanced... only to have it's advancements turn against me. I got over not having internal speaker sound and started using my USB headset to listen to music.
    About two weeks later it started having issues with skipping while playing graphic-intense games... it would be fine for the first few minutes of playing and then all the sudden the sound would distort/skip about 5 seconds and go back to normal, then about 20 seconds later it would repeat. This will happen until I unplug the headset and plug it back in, then it will last another few minutes and do it again.
    The Hard drive is in great condition, fan is working properly, and the motherboard otherwise looks immaculate.
    It's quite obvious that apple has cheaped out on it's I/O hardware components.
    Unfortunately this all started happening after each laptop was NO MORE THAN 2 weeks past warranty.... Coincidence? I think not. Get your sh** together apple.

  • Intermittant sound on HP Pavilion PC

    Can someone please help us?
    We have a HP Pavilion PC running Vista, our problem is that when the sound is turned on there is intermittant sound coming from both channels, and you are unable to understand anything coming out of the speakers.  But if you put a headphone jack in, there is only sound coming from the right channel.
    I have uninstalled the audio driver and reinstalled to hopefully correct the problem, but it continues to stay the same.  We have run out of ideas and hope someone can help.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
    Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59542.exe
    When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
    When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
    Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
    Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
