Sound still bad after resetting PRAM

Yesterday the sound on my laptop speakers began sounding really bad (almost like it's crackling?) and after resetting the PRAM and resetting the audio through a command on Terminal, it still sounded bad. It made me think it was a problem with the speakers themselves but now that I'm using my headphones it's still pretty bad. What do I do? Is there a way to fix this without having to take it in for repairs?

  • Can't boot after resetting PRAM??

Before attempting to install Leopard, I upgraded my non-leopard compatible 1.2 GHz processor to a 1.8 GHz leopard compatible one. I also doubled my RAM from 512 to 1024 MB. I then installed leopard but upon restart it continually shut down. Holding down the "c" button at startup, I was able to boot from the leopard disc. I could then even start the computer from my old Panther startup volume. I used 'Disk Utility', ran 'disk repair' and reinstalled Leopard. The same problem persisted.
In another forum someone suggested resetting the PRAM as a next step. This I did but now I'm really freaking out because my computer is totally nonresponsive. My computer starts, I no longer hear that wonderful symphonic major chord, the Apple logo appears (with no circular loading bar), and there it remains frozen. I can no longer boot from the Leopard disc or any other disc (TechTool Pro, DiskWarrior). What should I try now?

There are several things you can do.
If you can’t start up after resetting PRAM
If you have a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) scheme set up, your computer may not start up if you reset parameter random-access memory (PRAM) when you restart.
If this happens, hold down the Option key while you restart your computer, and select your startup disk when you see the prompt.
f a message says “type ‘mac-boot’ and press return”
If the message “type ‘mac-boot’ and press return” appears when you try to start up your computer, some of your computer’s internal settings need to be reset.
NOTE: It may be helpful to print these instructions before you begin.
    Or, try these suggestions:
    ■ Shut down your computer. Turn the computer back on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R, continuing to press until you hear the startup sound for the second time. This resets the computer’s parameter random-access memory (PRAM).
IMPORTANT: Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
    And finally
    Restart with the X key
Hold down the X key and choose Apple menu > Restart. This may force the computer to start up using your Mac OS X system.
If the computer starts up, release the X key. Choose Apple menu> System Preferences, and then click Startup Disk. Make sure that the disk containing Mac OS X is selected.
    Restart with the Option key
If you are unable to start up using the X key, choose Apple menu > Restart and immediately hold down the Option key.
When icons start to appear in the center of the screen, release the Option key. Select the disk that contains Mac OS X, and then click the forward arrow to continue starting up.
    ■ If resetting PRAM doesn’t solve the problem, reset non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM). When the “To continue booting ...” message appears, type “reset-nvram” and press Return. Then type “reset-all” and press Return.

  • External Display resolution problem after resetting PRAM

Gello, I've got Fujitsu-Siemens P19-2 monitor hooked up to my MbookPro and after resetting PRAM the correct display resolution disappeared from the "Displays" menu in System PReferences.
So did the refresh rate option...
    What do I do?
I really need to change the refresh rate and the resolution, but the refresh rate button is grey and unclickable, and the resolution simply isn't there (I need 1280x1024).
REsetting PRAM and SMC didn't help.

After a couple of resets everything went back to normal

    Hello Oddsbodkin,
It looks like the creator of Netflix Desktop has a site for the project here:

I would try posting your question there and see if anyone else has encountered this error and has a solution.

  • Temps rising again after resetting PRAM; SMC Version: 1.4f10

After running the firmware update, I was happy to see my MB running very coolly this morning (35 C.). After resetting my PRAM per AC's instructions for a display issue, I noticed my machine running in the high 50s/low 60s once again--same as before the firmware update.
Is this still in the normal range, or is there something else going on here?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Eric. Actually, I'm not plugged into a display just yet. Just seemed strange the temps went up 20-30 degree C. Perhaps it was the time of day and duration of operation that accounts for the change.

  • Bluetooth not available even after resetting pram and smc!

  • Mac still frezzes after reseting SMC and PRAM

    hi everyone!
I'm kind of noob here but my story is...
My macbook pro is a mid 2012 and i am having a strange problem. My mac started to became slow and constantly showing the spinning pinwheel in every move. So i've changed the hd (that originally is a 500gb 5200rpm) for a 160gb that i've found in my home.
I've changed it and re-installed the OS X Mavericks and the spinning pinwheel still show up. So I've decide to reset the SMC ( with the original hd) and no sign of change, reset the PRAM and still the same, then I've re-installed in the 500gb hd the OS X and get back to normal, but that was yesterday.
Today the pinwheel show it up again...
I am going to buy a new hd but I'm afraid that nothing changes.
If anyone have a idea, i'll thx a lot!

    Sup guys!
Well, i've bought the hd and that resolved the issue, so that was the solution for this one!
    bye!

  • HT3964 fan still running after resetting SMC?

After booting up Macbook the fan immediately starts running fast.  Closed down all programmes and reset the SMC.  Fan still continues running.  Has anyone else experienced his and has a solution?

Run Apple Hardware Test.  Maybe it will detect a bad sensor (just maybe).

  • Help! SUBWOOFER is QUIET after Resetting PRAM

Hi, I have 2 desktop speakers with a big subwoofer. Well after I reset my PRAM I noticed my desktop speakers work but the subwoofer is very quite and it doesn't have the deep bass it did before. Does tresetting the PRAM do something to the audio settings. I believe I read that somewhere and how can I fix it?
    Thanks
According to this articel the PRAM does affect the speaker volume. I went into "Preferences" and my desktop speakers work, but the Subwoofer is not working properly. It was eorking fine before I reset the PRAM. Is there a setting or a file I need to replace etc?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Noticed another problem. After I reset my PRAM my subwoofer no longer works as it did before I reset my PRAM and when I power up my Mac Pro Tower it stars and then when it's starting it chimes and does another "restart".
Before I reset my PRAM it would just start up once and not restart. What's going On? And what is NVAM? Do I need to reset that too?
    Please help.

  • Apple ID still disabled after reset and change of payment methods.

I am needing to update my computer ASAP, however, apparently my Apple ID is disabled. I have reset my password, that did not work. So I updated my payment methods. It STILL does not work, and I am beyond frustrated. I have had so many problems with Apple (the only reason I still deal with apple is because of my Mac)
I have looked at several other threads that had advice that did not work for me. Is there any other ideas?

It could be disabled for any number of reasons, you should call Apple and ask. It's probably not a technical issue that we can solve, but an account issue: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

  • Apple ID still disabled after resetting

I had some issues a few months ago with someone using my account to download apps and told customer support about it. The money was refunded and the accound was disabled. Now that I've changed my email and password just to be safe I'd really like to be able to use the account again. I follwed the insturctions under FAQ and reset my password for my Apple ID. I can log on, change my info and such, but I just can't download anything. I still have money left over from an old gift card and I'd really like to use it. Is there something else I can do?
