Sound stopped working with kernel26-2.6.22.1-4

Before I updated to kernel26-2.6.22.1-4, everything was working fine. Digital output, ac3/dts with 5.1 surround and stereo output. Now, interestingly digital ac3/dts through spdif works, stereo does not. I have followed the ALSA guide and all modules and everything seems to be loaded and working. What else, everything is unmuted in alsamixer, including IEC958 and IEC958 P on 0% volume.

  • My sound stopped working on my HP dv6-1280us

Its only a couple of months old but my sound stopped working.  I don't know much about laptops but here is what I do know.
It stopped working around 10 days ago.  At first there was no sound but I could move the volume up and down with the quicklaunch pad and the mute button would go from red to blue when touched.  I checked to make sure nothing was muted and everything seemed to be fine.
I googled the problem and it said to do a system restoration back before it stopped working.  I tried several times and it went through the process but then when it rebooted it said that it didn't work and that none of the settings have worked.
Then a couple of hours ago I noticed the mute button is now red and won't change to blue the volume slider is not responding to touch either.
Then I saw a post on here that said to go to system recovery and reinstall the sound drived (IDT High Definition CODEC) and I did and it said it did but it didn't fix the problem.
I am lost and would love some help if anyone has any ideas?  please?
    Thanks
    Amy

I got some help from a friend and her advice worked.  I thought I would post this for others having trouble
Well I guess you could try this it would not hurt. Assuming you use Windows that is.
Go to run and type services.msc when the box pops up scroll down to Windows Audio and double click. Make sure that the service is started.

  • My iPhone 5 stopped working with my 2015 Subaru Outback after the iOS 8.1.3 update

My iPhone 5 stopped working with the USB connector on my 2015 Subaru Outback. The phone will still charge, but the message is something like "this iPhone will not work with this accessory". Is there a fix being made? I saw others post with issues with the latest update. It worked fine with the prior iOS version 8.1.2

    Hello bballfan85,
It sounds like your getting an error message that the iPhone isn't going to work with your Subaru all of a sudden over USB. I would use these troubleshooting steps from this article, named:
If you need help with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch accessories
    Update your software
Install the latest version of iOS. You can see which version is on your iPhone by going to the About screen.Disconnect and inspect the accessory, then restart your device
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible.
Inspect the connection between the accessory and device and make sure that no debris or other damage is present.
Restart your iOS device by turning it off, then back on. When the Home screen appears, reconnect the accessory.
    Try a different device
Make sure the issue is with the accessory, if possible. Always use an identical or similar, compatible device with the accessory you're troubleshooting.
If there's static coming from the left audio channel when you use headphones, try connecting the headphones to a similar device.
If the device isn't syncing when connected to the dock, connect it directly to the computer using the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or try another USB port.
If you're using Lightning to 30-pin Adapter in a connection chain, try using the same adapter on a similar or identical device.
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iOS device. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.
These steps will help you troubleshoot the iPhone side of the equation.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • My iPhone 5s sounds stop working.i did not do anything it just stop working when I tried to turn on my music player all the sounds is not working I already check the volume and it is not also muted :( what happened can anyone solve my prob

Hello everyone my iPhone 5s sounds stop working.i did not do anything it just stop working when I tried to turn on my music player all the sounds is not working I already check the volume and it is not also muted :( what happened can anyone solve my problem please

    Hey Kirby17,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are not getting any sound from the speaker, follow this article.
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved, please contact Apple Support.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Iphone sound stopped working after ios 6.0 update

My 4s was working fine until I updated to 6.0.  After that, my sound stopped working.  If I plug in headphones it works, but as soon as I unplug it stops.  When I plug into my USB sync cable it works, but when I unplug it stops working. I updated through user settings over wifi and not through itunes sync if that makes any difference.  I know other people are experiencing similar problems.  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes rev, I tried the dock cleaning as well, I didn't help me either. I read and tried everything others did-no luck. I'm guessing these are the facts, either it will quietly get fixed on an update or the % of phones with the problem compared to those that don't doesn't warrant attention and is better addressed through Apple by just replacing it..if it's still under warranty.

  • The sound stopped working on Mac Book Pro OS X?

The sound stopped working. Firefox installed updates and since, the sound is disactivated. I went to preference, and the silence box is checked, but it doesn't allow me to uncheck it. The sound peripheric is not recognised it seems. What can I do?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so uncheck it.
Option click the speaker icon, if present and select Internal Speakers.
    6. Launch iTunes and play a song. Adjust the volume there.
    Best.

  • KM2M + WIN XP sound stops working after a few minutes

as in subject i have a KM2M COMBO-L (MS 6738) MoBo with athlon xp 2000+ and 128 MB spectek PC2100.
The problem is that the sound stops working after some minutes of use.
It's the same problem in all the 10 PCs of my webcafe

KM2M uses the Realtek ALC650 CODEC.  Are you using the VIA Audio driver or Realtek?  It should say under audio properties.
    I recommend the Realtek drivers.
Of course, if you are already using the Realtek, then I recommend the VIA drivers.
    Pretty insightful, eh?

  • OS updated - Sounds stops working

I updated my 2013 (Late model 2012) Mac Mini to the most recent version of the OS Mountain Lion this past weekend - now after about a day of use - the sounds stops working.  It is connected via the Thunderport to Displayport on a Dell Monitor.  Has always worked fine until the software update this past weekend.  Once I reboot - it starts working again and then a day later stops working and I have to reboot!  Any thoughts!
Thanks as this seems directly related to the upgrade!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Speakers stop working with some apps

how can I fix this. some apps work fine and some apps stop working with speakers but work with earphones.

    Hi everybody and Dadof2girls,
I just fixed my problem. I read a post from somebody that had this problem too and he said that in the update of the os this happens and the settings for the lock rotation button has to be set for sound now. That fixed the problem as this person said.

  • Why did my motorola s9-hd stop working with my iPhone 3gs?

Why did my motorola s9-hd stop working with my iPhone 3gs? I can't even be a foot away from my iPhone before my bluetooth headset losses signal. It wasn't like that before. What changed and how can it be fixed?

Sounds like you inadvertently have the Add Anchor Point tool active. Click and hold to get the full selection and choose the "regular" Pen tool at the top. (Or, just tap the P key.)

  • Sony Xperia P notification sound stops working

Anybody can help me out with this issue. After i make a call, phones notification sound stops working.

This sounds related to a software glitch, I would suggest performing a software repair on the device to help resolve this. I have supplied a link to PC Companion that will allow you to perform this task.

  • Browser Sound Stopped Working

I have a PowerBook with 10.4.7. For whatever reason, the sound has stopped working in Safari and Firefox. I get sound in Quicktime but not using Flash, Realplayer or any other html sound such as greeting cards. The guy at the genius bar suggested doing an Archive and Install. I did that and no change. I also have Virtual PC and when that starts it gives me an error stating it can't find the sound system. I can use iTunes and the sound works fine so it isn't the speakers. I know I loaded some plugin that broke the sound but I don't know what I did or when the sound stopped working. Any suggesting
    Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    rjarman1,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Check No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4).
If you have Garage Band, you may also benefit from starting that application.
    ;~)

  • Sound stops working until i restart.

I currently have the satellite a505-s6965. I bought it back in 2009 but last year my hard drive crashed so I replaced it with a 1tb SSdrive and upgraded to windows 7 in the process. I havent had any other issues until maybe about 2-3 weeks ago when i noticed after so long my sound stops working. I can't play videos, music or anything. Itunes wont even show the song playing at all.  I have done everything, my drivers are all up to date, my bios is updated. I have tried headphones and none of that changes anything.
However...if I hit the volume up button on the laptop, it will beep through both the speakers and headphones but no other sounds will play. But if I restart it will all go back to working forr so long. Sometimes when the sound works i may sound a little cracked or weird.
Any suggestions on a fix for this issue?

Hi. I see that this question has gone unresolved since Oct. I'm having a similar problem. Also using FCP 7.
I have a video, recorded on a Canon Vixia HV30. I captured the video and found that the sound was recorded too high. There was an audio recorder, Zoom H4, recording at the same time, and it had a much better level, so I imported the .wav file to my project. I spent about 2 hrs cutting the video and the audio, syncing the audio to the video and making cuts between the songs that were played to edit out the between song banter and other stuff.
All seemed to be working fine, and then at some point, I clicked the "L" key to move forward, and there was a loud pop, and the sound went away. Whenever I press the start key, or one of the J, K, L keys, it click/pops and no sound is available.
    Any help with that?

  • Sound stops working, 3 seconds after plugging in headphones

I have a strange issue on my phone where the sound stops working after about 3 seconds (consistently), after plugging in headphones.
I have the latest software update and I don't have any special sound modifying apps. No software I've installed ruined this, it has worked fine before, until about two weeks ago. I've also dust-cleaned the headphone jack.
Without headphones, the sound works great.
Here's an example of what happens
    1. I start a video on YouTube / play a song / start a call with someone / start a game
    2. The sound works well, nothing is strange at all
    3. I plug in my headphones
    4. The sound now works in the headphones
    5. About 3 seconds later, the sound stops working completely, in all the cases above
    6. The sound never returns, until I unplug my headphones
I'm clueless as to what could be causing this. Does anyone have any idea?

I've tried that, but it doesn't work
It seems like a software/firmware issue, since the 3 seconds of working is 100% the same every time
