Sound stops during movie, restart to fix

i've searched around and the closest reference was : http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=844795&#844795
However, I haven't seen a fix yet so I will ask the question myself.
When watching some movies (2hrs+ in length) my 5g ipod will suddenly freeze a couple minutes in and then resume without any sound. I have to exit the movie and restart it. The movie then resumes from where I left off and the sound is fine for a few more minutes.
This does not happen on all movies. Any idea?

If you've updated recently to the latest software (1.1), and you've used Videora to rip your DVDs, then that's the problem. It's well documented on this forum, and even the Videora home page has a note about it.
The only solution to this is to revert to software version 1.0 which should be on the installation disk.

  • Sound stops during games

Randomly my sounds stops during most of my games.  Clash of clans my sound will fade in and out like its trying to work properly, but other apps are just muted completely.  If im listening to music while playing a game, it seems to happen more often.  ALL sound is stopped, i have to exit my app to turn the music back on.  This happened after i synced some music.  It was TERRIBLE, but i managed to sync it 3 or 4 more times to try and correct the problem, it helped but didnt fix it.  One day my sound wouldnt even adjust.  Something is seriously wrong with this OS.  This has been a problem since iOS7.  And i was syncing my wifes new Justin Timberlake, apparently the iPod hates him as much as i do.

NoSound problem with headphones? With speaker?
If only with headphones have you tried another pair of headphones?

  • Sound stops during automation recording.

Alright here's a video example of what I'm talking about.
When I'm doing a "Touch" Automation on one midi track, while recording a touch track the midi sound stops as soon as I move the slider.
The automation still records, it's just that the sound stops during automation.
In the video notice that as soon as i move the Volume Automation slider the midi playing
stops. Why? I need to be able to monitor this while I'm adjusting the automation.
    Appreciate anyone's suggestions.
It's Logic Express 8.0.2 by the way.

  • Speaker sounds stopped - needed to restart. Why?

I'm using a late 2006 MacBook Pro 17". Just before something strange happened with the sound for the first time. The internal speaker completely went mute.
The sound preference settings were all ok. The volume was set to a high value. The output was set to internal speaker. But nothing would come out of any sound-related app: iTunes TV shows, iChat notifications, changing the volume in sound preferences, etc.
Putting it to sleep and waking up didn't help.
    But restarting fixed it.
Has anybody ever seen (or heard rather) that happen before?
Is there anything I can "kick" short of restarting should that happen again?
Obviously if it's something that's going to happen once every 3 years I'll just file under, "just one of those things." But if there is something I can do about it if it happens again I'll make a note of it.
    Thanks,
    doug

This is very strange. I'm using an almost brand new 15" Macbook Pro. About 15 minutes ago the same thing happened to me. I was playing a video in quicktime when there was a sharp popping sound and then no sound from the speakers. I closed the quicktime movie I had open. But I also had an embedded movie open in Safari. When I refreshed that page each time the popping sound would reoccur but still no sound.
I've just repaired permissions and am backing up before I restart as I have one of the problem plagued new drives. I'll report back once I've rebooted.
But the fact that you're having the same issue on a three year old machine is a strange coincidence. What where you doing when the sound stopped working?

  • Keeps stopping during movies

Every time I rent a movie from iTunes and watch on my Apple TV, the movie stops about 6-10 times. I am returned to the setup page where, after a couple of clicks on the remote I have the movie restarted.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it a common problem?

Having the same problem. I think its a hardware issue. Helpline has suggested that it's a router problem but I don't think so. They suggested I try hard wiring it but I don't want to run cables across the house or pay to have someone put a ethernet point in my living room. I also have a ATV 1 wireless and it never misses a beat. All the other wireless devices in my house run fine.
They also suggested I do a factory reset which I did. The first attempt failed and I had to do another one. This is what makes me think its a hardware issue because the first software download would not install.
My ADSL2 speed is 13-16MBps so speed is not the problem.
The status bar at the bottom of the screen is showing that the movie is fully loaded when this happens and has full signal strenght so it's not buffering just dropping back to the play menu.
Very annoying considering how well my old ATV works.
Called them back about this issue and still waiting for a reply

  • Apple TV stops during movie.....

Last Thursday I downloaded from iTunes the movie TRON. I was watching it using iTV when about an hour into the movie it just stopped. The movie was fully downloaded. During my troubleshooting on my computer the TV screen went to screen saver and it brought up my photos as usual.
Since Thursday I have tried everything I can think of and found on the troubleshooting page, but to no avail. Computer, iTunes and iTv are all up to date. iTv has been restored. iTV recognizes my computer for I see the name of my library but that about it. After I restored iTV I no longer see my photos on the iTV screen saver. The message I keep receiving on the TV screen goes something like this: Apple TV can't find the library. Make sure you are on the same network and turn on home sharing". I have only one network and iTV confirms the network as well as showing a strong signal strength. Home sharing is turned on in iTunes and iTV as well as photo sharing.
Any ideas? It would be appreciated....

Ok, problem solved. ATV now works as advertised.
One of the first things I did when this problem arose was check my computer settings, including my anti-virus software VIRUS BARRIER. In VB I made sure that all firewalls were down and all data entering and leaving my computer was set to "no restrictions" and nothing worked. VB is set to download updates automatically. Apparently when this issue started it updated the program during the movie play thereby doing something to stop the movie from playing and my library not to load. Yesterday I went back into VB and noticed a master ON/OFF switch that was set to ON. I turned it off and once I did that my library was able to load and I am back in business. I could swear I never saw that switch before for I have had VB for over 2 years. Guess it was just one of those things I just overlooked.

  • Some system sounds stop playing. Alternatives to fix-by-reboot?

I have noticed that at some random point Leopard (10.5.5) stops playing certain system sounds. These sounds include e.g. thrash can emptying / dropping, sticky keys sounds etc. They don't include however all sounds like the beep that you hear when you alter the volume.
From activity monitor one can see that coreaudiod is taking up some % from cpu. After killing the coreaudiod the system sounds returned immediately (coreaudiod is restarted right away).
Previously I have been fixing this with reboot (which obviously work), but I hope this helps somebody to get back their lost system sounds without the need for reboot.
btw. the coreaudiod should be fixed

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Do you have any 3rd party audio apps such as AirFoil or WireTap installed?
If you open the Audio MIDI setup and under Audio devices, Default Output, if you see some SoundFlower or other listings, that is usually the problem.
If you only have "built-in output" then the problem lies elsewhere.
FYI: There is an entire forum for coreaudio, well hidden

  • Sound stops during playback

Running the latest version of CS6 (current on all updates) on a Mac Mini i7 2.3GHz with 16GB RAM running OS X 10.8.2.
Whenever CPU usage starts to get a little heavy, sound will go silent at random times during playback of timeline in the program monitor.  Meters go to zero when sound goes out and go active when sound returns.  Video playback is fine and there are no dropped frames.  This also was happening on my previous machine, a 2008 Mac Pro.  Started happening with CS6 and never happened in CS5.5.
All my source footage is h264 from a Canon 5D.  Sequence was created by doing the 'create sequence from clip' command.  Program monitor resolution is set at 1/4.  Played with setting audio hardware buffersizes to different values but with no change in behavior.

I'm having the same problem on an editing workstation with CS6. The audio will stop playing after 4-5 seconds, video plays fine. The timeline has been rendered. If I hit the stop/pause key, (spacebar), and hit it again, it will play for another 4-5 seconds before the audio drops out. Sometimes only one audio track will stop playing.
Video is 720P, two audio tracks, three video tracks.  System is win 7-64 with an intel I7 extreme CPU, 12 GB RAM (9GB dedicated to Premiere, performance mode)
    Any suggestions?

  • Quicktime: Sound off during movie recording and preferences won't open

Ever since I updated to Snow Leopard I can't open Quicktime preferences anymore. In addition, when I try to record a video+sound, the sound is always off and not recording in real time.
Does anyone know how resolve these issues?
    Thanks in advance!

Ditto to the above. I too am having the same symptoms of no audio within GB3 only after upgrading but levels light up perfectly plus I am unable to to address GB prefs without first rebooting. What's up with this? All other iLife '06 apps run fine on my G4 Digital Audio. This was after a fresh install of iLife '06 by the way running X.4.5.
I tried looking up the answers on the link that samccormack kindly provided above but nothing happens. I simply get an error message. Might you be able to let us know on this thread what the link was about or how to address the no audio and vanishing preferences that refuse to open up within GB3?
    TIA

  • Static noise coming from speakers, then sound stops

    Hi All,
Having a very strange problem with my Thunderbolt Display + MBP Late 2011.
While listening to music, static/cracking noise starts... get's worse and worse and eventually the sound stops :-(
Then I restart the application playing the music/sound, it works again...
    Anybody having these problems?
    Roberto

As an update - my Thunderbolt display noise problem appears to have resolved itself? Most nights I woud leave the display plugged into power, which could have been leading to some static or charge build up somewhere?
After disconnecting it o/n (no power) and then only powering it on when I was actively using it - the static noise disappeared.
I now leave it plugged in 24x7 and there have been no noise issues since.
NB: This is after a visit to the Genius Bar and having some parts replaced in the display. The static did return for a bit but it's now gone.

  • While watching rented movie it stops during playback, how do i fix it?

I rented a long movie and it continues to stop during playback, how do I fix that?

    Hi dedesgirl,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue playing songs in iTunes. Does the playback issue only occur with specific tracks and were they purchased from the iTunes Store? Take a look at the article linked below and try the suggestions which will resolve most iTunes and QuickTime Player playback issues.

  • Macbook air Wi Fi and sound stops every time it goes to sleep. i have to  restart it every time to use wifi and sounds. this started happening just after the latest upgrade to X. any reasons why its doing that and how to fix it.

Macbook air Wi Fi and sound stops every time it goes to sleep. i have to  restart it every time to use wifi and sounds. this started happening just after the latest upgrade to OS X. any reasons why its doing that and how to fix it.

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reinstall OS X.

  • Sound stops working until i restart.

I currently have the satellite a505-s6965. I bought it back in 2009 but last year my hard drive crashed so I replaced it with a 1tb SSdrive and upgraded to windows 7 in the process. I havent had any other issues until maybe about 2-3 weeks ago when i noticed after so long my sound stops working. I can't play videos, music or anything. Itunes wont even show the song playing at all.  I have done everything, my drivers are all up to date, my bios is updated. I have tried headphones and none of that changes anything.
However...if I hit the volume up button on the laptop, it will beep through both the speakers and headphones but no other sounds will play. But if I restart it will all go back to working forr so long. Sometimes when the sound works i may sound a little cracked or weird.
Any suggestions on a fix for this issue?

Hi. I see that this question has gone unresolved since Oct. I'm having a similar problem. Also using FCP 7.
I have a video, recorded on a Canon Vixia HV30. I captured the video and found that the sound was recorded too high. There was an audio recorder, Zoom H4, recording at the same time, and it had a much better level, so I imported the .wav file to my project. I spent about 2 hrs cutting the video and the audio, syncing the audio to the video and making cuts between the songs that were played to edit out the between song banter and other stuff.
All seemed to be working fine, and then at some point, I clicked the "L" key to move forward, and there was a loud pop, and the sound went away. Whenever I press the start key, or one of the J, K, L keys, it click/pops and no sound is available.
    Any help with that?
