Sound stops randomly in itunes

I have had a problem lately with the sound randomly cutting off in iTunes. Usually this happens when an album or playlist is being played and one song has ended and the next one is starting. The new song is still "playing" (or appears to be on iTunes) but there is no sound. If I double click on the same song it will start over again with sound. This has gotten to be really annoying. Is this happening to anyone else? Please help!

Tried reseting the PRAM and that seemed to take care of the issue, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Also noticed iTunes tracks playing in Spotify had the issue and it seemed to persist after the reset - I ended up unlinking Spotify from iTunes and now it seems to work again in Spotify as well.

  • ZXR sound stops randomly

Hi, been trying to fix this problem for a couple of months now. Got a X79 system with Soundblaster ZXR, it works fine for hours (sometimes only minutes) and then suddenly the sound stops, only way to get it back is to reboot. Tried quite a few things, update bios, set bios to optimised defaults, remove any IRQ conflicts, even swapped my ZXR with a friends ZXR, nothing has worked and I'm at my whits end as the ZXR is awesome and I don't want to even try onboard audio or any other soundcard.
Latest driver is installed, also happens on my Windows 7 system, current gaming system is 8.1. Am using 5.1 and SBX Pro Studio. Any suggestions much appreciated, even just hearing of one other person having the same problem would help, if no one else has the problem then it must be something specific to my system.

Cause was an error in my system RAM (checked with memtest86+). I had tried to set my DDR4 RAM to DDR-2800 (which it was specified for) on my ASUS X99 Deluxe.
After reverting to auto detection for my RAM (resulting in DDR-2133) it has never happened again. The RAM does not show any error when checked with memtest86+ at this speed.
Try to check your RAM for errors.
To test different things I run a 60 minute long iRacing replay, the sound is almost guaranteed to stop during that time. I tested setting bios to optimised defaults, the sound stopped, I've tested just about everything I can think of related to my system and it always stops.
Just did one more test tonight though, set windows to 2.1 stereo and the sound didn't stop after playing the same replay 5 times (5 hours). So it looks like it's either a 5.1 Windows bug or it may relate specifically to iRacing because the sound has never stopped in BF4 although I don't spend as much time playing it.
Do staff look here and make posts? I'm willing to test if you want to try and fix this, maybe there is a diagnostic tool to show what causes the loss of sound when it happens? The only reason I bought the ZXR was for SBX Pro, I could use my Firewire card if I wanted high quality stereo. This seems like a pretty major bug.

  • Sound stops random on Dell Vostro 220 with Windows 7 Professional

Can anyone help? This Dell Vostro 220 w Windows 7 Professional "HD" sound goes off randomly. And I have to reboot to recover the sound.

Your question has nothing to do with Apple products so I'm not sure why you posted it on an Apple forum.  Try a Windows forum or contact Dell support.

It just says not connected, and as soon as it bails to menu, it connects again and will play for another minute before doing the same thing all over again.

    Hello David,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your Apple TV is having trouble streaming videos from iTunes on your computer. This symptom could have a variety of causes, and I'd suggest the following initial troubleshooting steps.
In addition to restarting your devices (Apple TV, computer, router), try the tips in this article, starting with "Check your home network:"

  • Itunes sound stops working after 20 mins on videos bought from iTunes store.

On every video i've bought from the iTunes store the sound cuts out after approx 20 mins. I'm on windows 8.0 (completely up-to-date with all drivers up-to-date too) with the latest iTunes (11.1.3.8) and Quicktime (with enhancements switched off). PC is a quad core i7 with 16GB of memory with windows running on an SSD and my iTunes content on another internal HD (not an SSD). iTunes library is approx 24000 songs and 30 videos. i'm watching on a full HD monitor with external speakers and the PC is authorised to play iTunes content.
I've worked my way through all the iTunes support items around video chopping (which was happening too - now fixed) and audio issues but nothing helps e.g. I've switched off iTunes match and home sharing, switched off any audio enhancements in iTunes and my sound card (which is a Via chipset on my motherboard), switched the bit rate to 16 bit/44.1k on windows and itunes, uninstalled and re-installed iTunes etc, etc.
I did have an Apple TV on my network but I've disconnected it in case the sound was being routed to it after a period of time. This hasn't made any difference.
Has anyone had this issue and managed to fix it?
    Thanks

Myself as well, have been having this same problem, around 20 minutes into any movie I open up in my itunes library, the sound stops playing.   I have yet to find any fix for the problem, although I have a thought that it is probably something to do with the buffering.  My songs play just fine, all day long, but any movie only plays for 20 minutes and then the sound goes out.   Additionally, I had another issue that kept popping up an error message everytime I tried to open Itunes, this was finally fixed via copy paste a corruptted (spelling) .dll file.  The only "workaround" for this issue, that I have found, is to open the movie in QuickTime, even though I am not really excited about the QuickTime player.  If anyone finds a better solution, please drop a line. thank you in advance.

  • Sound stops while playing music with iTunes Match

While playing music from iTunes Match, the sound stops.  The music continues to play but there is no sound.  If I double click the song, the sound will start again.  But after that song is finished and it advances to the next song.  The sound will stop again and I have to double click the song again.  Other sounds on my MB-Air will still work.  Anyone else having this issue? Thanks

It happens to me too. I listen the most on my iPhone. Song is playing, but no sound. Sometimes I have to close the app and relaunch to recover. Very annoying.

    Hey davma1
All you need to delete the songs then go through the process of downloading the past purchase again.

  • ITunes downloaded movies, sound stops before end of movie.

Sound stops before  end of my downloaded iTunes movies. I must stop the movie and start it again to get all the sound.

I am having the same problem and there does not seem to be an answer. How do we get our money back for the rental? It's not the $4 but the principle ... Don't sell a product that does not work.

  • I want to listen to itunes through my 5.1 amp on apple tv but sound stops when tv is switched off how can I stop this?

I want to listen to itunes through my 5.1 amp thru apple tv but the sound stops when when my television is switched off how can I stop this?
All I want to be on is my PC and my amp connected thru ATV via optical linkl

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes there have been a number of reports posted about this, it seems different people experience different results here with some finding the same as you, some finding that it won't work at all with the TV turned off and some finding that if music is sent from iTunes on the mac/pc that as long as the TV is on when the stream starts, the TV can be turned off afterwards.
My assumption here is that it depends on the TV itself, although that probably doesn't help all that much.

  • Sound stops and restarts randomly

    Hi to all,
For some time now I am having a problem with the sound in my Mac book pro:
    - when I am listening something, either in iTunes, YouTube, etc, the sound stops and a red light flashes in the earphones plug. When I check in the Sound Preferences menu, it says that the output sound is no more associated with the computer speakers but with the earphones plug. And this preference is not possible to change... I don't have more options!
I don't know if I make myself clear, sorry for that!
What can I do please! This is very annoying and powerless!
    Thank you for your attention!

Only to try restoring the iPod to factory settings.

Hi , I just bought robert kiyosaki financial iq audiobook from ITunes from my iPad  but the sound stop after 5 minutes playing. Can someone assist me please?

Have you tried copying it to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases and seeing if it plays ok on your computer ? If it does then try deleting it from your iPad and then sync it back and see if it then plays. If not then you could use the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1933

  • Sound on playback of iTunes music either on iTunes or Sonos stops.

Have had this problem for a while on different platforms but seems worse now.
Had XP on laptop and library on time capsule.  The sound on playback of iTunes songs would quite, but iTunes still acted like it was playing.  Sound would restart after a few songs went by or if you restarted the song.
Went to iMac partially because of this issue and now still have the problem.  Have iTunes library loaded locally on the iMac.  So then thought that it was an Airport issue.  So I went with Sonos system and the problem persists.  I see similar posts all over the web, but don't see solutions
I've been sold on the fact that Apple products just work, but that has definitely NOT been my experience with iTunes.  Not even close.
    Hope someone can help.

let's first check through the possibilities from this document:

... if no joy there, what make and model of PC do you have? are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista?

  • Iphone 3Gs phone sounds stop working at random.

I have an Iphone 3Gs and am having some issues with the phone sounds. I can lock the phone after its been working perfectly and come back to it in a few minutes and the unlock sound will be gone, the key sounds dont work and any apps that have sound will not put out any sound. The phone is never set to silent and the volume levels are always around the same level, also if I open the ipod the tracks will play but there will be no sound through the phone or the headphones/speakers and the onscreen volume level slider does not appear.
During this issue the alarm will still sound out and the ringer still rings and the sms tone will still sound.
I can rectify this by switching the phone of and on but this is happening more and more and Im sorry for seeming to over the top but this is a huge inconvenience and shouldnt happen in the first place.
Is there a reason this happens and is there anything I can do to stop it happening again?

I have the exact same problem.. Just got a brand new 3GS today, after my old one was replaced.
The sounds stops working and at some occasions the speaker will play some strange sounds. Even noticed that when my gf tried calling the phone, it gave away a "phone to close to speaker-sound". If you know what i mean.
I have no idea what to do, anyone?

  • Sound stops during games

Randomly my sounds stops during most of my games.  Clash of clans my sound will fade in and out like its trying to work properly, but other apps are just muted completely.  If im listening to music while playing a game, it seems to happen more often.  ALL sound is stopped, i have to exit my app to turn the music back on.  This happened after i synced some music.  It was TERRIBLE, but i managed to sync it 3 or 4 more times to try and correct the problem, it helped but didnt fix it.  One day my sound wouldnt even adjust.  Something is seriously wrong with this OS.  This has been a problem since iOS7.  And i was syncing my wifes new Justin Timberlake, apparently the iPod hates him as much as i do.

NoSound problem with headphones? With speaker?
If only with headphones have you tried another pair of headphones?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
