Sound stuttering on Virtual PC (xp)

I need to use a windows music production app on virtual pc but after installing windows xp, the sound stutters almost like its a system resources problem. I've followed all the tips to minimize cpu load etc, like disabling animation features in windows but its still stuttering. I would have thought my spec would be ok for this but it even happens on the welcome noise. Is this a resources problem or can i change a setting somewhere? Also does anyone know of another virtual host that would work better for sound? I'm not on an intel mac so don't think i can use parallels. thanks guys, Dren.

Hi drennam;
My suggestion is to use a music production application that is native to OS X instead of the one that requires XP. Any attempt to use Virtual PC for anything as resounce intensive as a musical production application is doomed to failure in my opinion.
I am not sure what you are doing but I have found GarageBand to be a very adequete solution on OS X for music production.

  • Sound stutters in Firefox flash applications over time

If firefox is left open too long, flash sound stutters (each second of the sound will play about 5+ times before playing the next).
While the problem is happening in Firefox, I can open other browsers to the exact same web page and all is fine.
A Hotfix for the problem:  in Firefox go to Tools -> Addons and disable flash. Once it's disabled, re-enable it and refresh the page. Everything is back to normal and you don't have restart firefox.
This would seem to point to Shockwave Flash being the problem.
Firefox 3.5.8  Adobe Flash 10,0,45,2   Using the Ubuntu Linux Operating System
I have been looking for 3 weeks now and have not found a solution.  It looks like the same problem happens in Windoz, etc.
    Help!

Since Firefox is on 3.6.2 (and I assume that's for Linux as well, but I haven't updated my Ubuntu in a month or so) why use 3.5?
You said, "I can open other browsers to the exact same web page and all is fine."
Since they all use the same Shockwave/Flash engine, that would indicate that the problem is NOT in the Shockwave/Flash engine, but rather in the one browser with the issues... namely the outdated Firefox.

And still no fix.  This is ridiculous.  I have tried everything, changing to high performance, updating drivers, leaving computer unplugged, turning off HDD protection.  Nothing works.  This is insane, I work a lot with music how am I supposed to do so when I can't even function on my computer?  I think all of us with a problem should just organize into one thread and send a petition or large letter to something.  In the mean time, has any one person come up with any other solutions that acould potentially work?  Thanks.

See if this is applicable to your situation...
If you have the HP Power Assistant/Power Manager installed, uninstall it and either live without (I don't see the real value in this program as W7 has plenty of power settings you can modify), or install an earlier version of the software.

  • Sound stuttering in Leopard on Dual G5 Powermac

I've searched other posts, but haven't seen a related topic, so wanted to air this.
Took a day and a half to load Leopard, as the upgrade didn't work smoothly on my RAID1 10.4 startup disk. It kept breaking the mirror, then wouldn't present the other slice when booting. Eventually I had to move all the data to a third drive then re-init the startup mirror and copy it back. What a pain.
THEN, I notice my old favorite problem is back. I can't make the G5 disable 'nap mode', whenever nap mode is on I get an annoying chirping sound continuously out of the speakers. I had a line "hwprefs cpu_nap=false" (or something like that) previously that disabled this on bootup. I notice the reinstall of xcode 3.0 appears to have removed this, also loading the latest CHUD does NOT provide a tool to turn this mode off. Help!
As if this isn't bad enough, when playing back a video via QT or DVD player, the sound stutters continously a couple of times a second. This isn't something I can live with. If this can't get fixed, I'll go back to Tiger and get my money back.
I have this installed on my Powermac G5 dual 2.0GHz system. I've no intention of loading this on my Macbook Pro until this is fixed.
I tried repairing disk permissions on the startup volume, but beyond that I'm not sure where to look. Any ideas?
    Thanks, Dave.

Spoke too soon. I've just noticed has disappeared completely partly through viewing one movie.

been looking for something a bit like it got an old ipod thouch in a audio dock in the kitchen and want to give it access to all my music not just play what is synced
so far my only options is to get an app to use upnp to get the music directly from my nas
or get some app which require the computer to be running and running some program to handle it
and as far as I can tell getting access to stuff synced on the atv is a no go

  • Intel hda, sound stutters in games.

I have yet another problem. Whenever I play games, the sound stutters very badly. I'm using alsa and pretty much everything else works. No problems in mplayer/vlc. Just in games.
My guess is that heavy load causes the problem. I have no clue how to fix it though. Been searching around on forums for a while, but haven't found any solution.
Maybe worth mentioning that the games run just fine. No choppiness at all or other problems.

weird. xmms sometimes stutter(actually stops) for me but that's about it. but i'm not using kernel26 i'm using the -ck kernel which is supposed to be better with these things.
i have an ac97 onboard audio. what sound(-solution) do you have?
it *could* be that your running esd and arts in the background though which _might_ make the sound stutter.
disable esd in a startup manager/script/dir like 'esdctl off' and remove arts.
OT: Is gnome 2.18 compiled now without esd or is it possible to compile gnome without it now?

  • NGTX560 Single Fan Edition, freezing and sound stuttering problems

I've recently just built a new computer,
    CPU- i5 2500k,
    Motherboard- Gigabyte Z68M-D2H,
    Ram- G.Skill Ripjaws 1600mhz 8gb(4X2kit),
PSU- Coolermaster Extreme plus 700W 52A single rail,
GPU- NGTX560 single fan edition, no overclocks whatsoever on anything.
Storage- Seagate 500gb HDD 7200Rpm Sata
    OS- Windows 7 64Bit edition.
Display- Monitor is a LG IPS235, 23.5', if it even matters
When I try to play games it starts to lag, and freeze while causing sound stuttering and then completely freezes the whole computer forcing me to reboot the system. Using the 285.62 drivers.
Games for example include Starcraft 2, which when I open used to freeze straight on the loading screen forcing an immediate reboot. I allowed it through my firewall and now I get past the loading screen and can log in, but straight after I log in, sound stuttering occurs and then the whole computer freezes forcing me to reboot. Another game as an example is Killing Floor, I never got past the "Tripwire interactive" loading screen, looked on google for some fixes, after modifying some .ini files for Killing Floor I was able to get into the menu's, went to options and clicked on display to change some of the graphics settings, extreme rips in the image occured, sound stuttering and frozen on the spot. Retried again but this time didn't touch any settings at all, joined a match, the game loaded but as soon as I entered it froze forcing me to reboot. Need help please thanks
Edit: just tried Starcraft 2, made a custom match vs a bot, got into the game for 20 seconds, started mining minerals then it froze again, this time I can hear the audio still playing perfectly while the image is frozen, mouse can move around, keyboard still works. rebooted after observing these features

Sorry but i have no other video card to test if my system is stable
I haven't tried msi's drivers yet will get to doing that now
I have tried to reinstall SC2 using both the disc provided, and downloading the client from the internet
Ill get back to you with the exact video card model

  • Two week old DV6, Sound Stutters Please Help

Purchased a DV6 a few weeks ago and the sound stutters, anyone else having this problem?
Is there a fix or should I send it to HP?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
Can you provide the specific model / product number, dv6 is a series and doesn't give us much information to work with.
Is the stuttering affected by what sound is being played (i.e. game sounds vs a CD or an MP3 file)?  Is it just with external speakers or do you hear the same thing in headphones?
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • The sound stutters and everything freezes

there's something wrong with the sound on my computer, if i spend 30mins watching a video, the sound stutters annoyingly and my laptop hangs, i always have to restart it, some times this doesn't solve the problem.
It also happens when i'm on skype.... its a dv3 and i updated the driver recently, still no result. is it the sound card???
    PLEASE HELP

2nd that. Try running it earlier in the day when things are OK and again immediately after you have a problem (but remember to stop the video on demand first as this will affect the result). Copy and paste both sets of results.

  • XPS 8700, Sound stuttering during playback

I have a new 2 month old Dell XPS 8700.  I notice the other day a sound problem that is strange to say the least. When I play back a .flac or .mp3 file, the sound stutters. It's like it comes out in pulses once a second. It's quite un-listenable. Not sure when this started. I'm running Windows 8.1 fully updated as of 2/6/2015. The problem shows up with Windows 8 music player, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center and vlc. All show the exact same playback anomaly. It also happens when I use the same players to play an .avi or .mkv video. The sound is bad no matter which audio port I use. I also get the same artifact using USB Headphones with their own DAC. What is weird about this symptom is that if stream Pandora, Somafm, or watch a youtube video, I do NOT get this symptom. The audio is perfectly fine. I ran the  Dell PC Checkup and no problems are detected. Device Manager says all my drivers are up to date. Any ideas about what is going on and how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

I did.  I tried the update, but it failed because I already had the update.  I had installed it a few weeks ago when I was setting up the PC and downloading all the Windows, Office and Dell updates.
Ironies of ironies is that the failed update helped me resolve the problem.  I thought I would uninstall the Realtek drivers via Device Manager which I did.  But, before running the update again, I checked to see if the symptom was still present. The stuttering went away!  Problem solved.
It seems that this is working with an Invidia sound driver from what I can surmise from Device Manager. So, I'm just not going to install the Realtek driver unless there is a change in the symptom.  I'm beginning to think that it was the updating I did a few weeks ago that broke my sound!
    Thanks again for helping.

  • Sound Stuttering in Windows 7 - Please Help

    Hello there,
I hope you can help?! Ever since I bought my P6320UK HP Pavilion Desktop i have been having intermittent issues playing sound. The audio stops and starts and is distorted. I have gone down every available avenue, been in touch with HP, PC World and had the computer away for repair but still to no success. the computer has 6GB ram and lots of memory so playing sound shouldn't be an issue. My speakers (both monitor and separate powered speakers/subwoofer) are all working correctly.
Initially I had to have the memory replaced on the computer but the memory seems to be working fine now, it's just the sound that causes issues. I have Realtek HD Audio on the computer (and there is also an option for realtek digital output but i disabled this as i don't use this). I have monitor speakers and my own speaker/subwoofer as well, which i set up as a multi-channel set up.
i think that it may be to do with Windows 7 set up- as i notice a few other people have posted comments on windows 7 forums that it seems to be a windows 7 problem. it's nothing to do with the software as i've tried a system reboot and it doesn't make any difference to the sound.
I hope you can help - it would be much appreciated because it is very frustrating!
    Many thanks
    Morven

& Are you using DDLi've/DTS Interacti've encoding? I had some problems on and off with my PCI version only after going X58 in SLI, but one thing that helped for me was reducing sampling rate in Vista/Win7 sound properties to 44. kHz instead of 48 or 96 kHz. Most games are still 44. and apparently the clipping/stuttering can occur when the X-Fi tries upsampling.

  • Video and sound stutters in imovie project, made up entirely of stills with voice-over and music. I'm using iMovie 9.0.4 on a PowerBook 2GHz running 10.6.8 with 274 GB of space free. Size of project is 588 Gb.

This particular project is made up entirely of still photos with Ken Burns moves and dissolves between each photo. As I got further into the project, the voice over audio started stuttering, and now it hardly plays at all with a motorboat sound when it does play. I've also started added music with the dsame audio problem. I'm running on a Mac PowerBook 2GHz using System 10.6.8. I have IMovie version 9.0.4. The project file size is 588 Mb. I have 274 Gb of hard disc space left. I have shut off all other running programs and even disconnected from the internet, but nopthing seems to help. I acts like it's a memory problem of some sort, but all other applications run fine.

  • Sound Stutters when i select track with music in it, Resolution Problem?

    Hello
Im having a bit of a problem with logic 8, i had this problem in 7 as well and i figured it would be resolved when i upgraded but alas no love. Basically when i select a track that has somthing on it in the sequencer window a l the sound starts stuttering and i eventually get the following error message
Could Not synchronize audio and midi
    Sample Rate 34597 recognized.
Check conflict between Logic Pro and external device.
Now i looked this up on the logic support page and it says theirs a method of reseting all the sample rates in 7 but i am unable to find this in logic 8.
Please please help me with this as i am unable to play anything using midi or to properly work in general and i have several projects due.
    Many thanks in advanced

I have a m-audio fire wire audio device but i am not using it right now. Only when i want to record thngs. As for external sync modes or clocking from a digital source to my knowledge i am not. Is their a method i can check to see if im doing this?
I have the feeling its nothng to do with the buffer sizes as the strange thing is that sound will play fine so long as i have selected a track that has nothing on it. Its only when i select a track with either audio or midi in it that the sound starts stuttering. Also the fact that its detecting a sample rate of 34597 seems a bit strange as logic works on 41.1.
All very strange. Im thinking it may have somthing to do with the midi device settings as its only when i select a track that im getting this stuttering so perhaps logics sample rate settings on the track change when its receiving input from the midi controller?

  • X-FI Sound Stuttering in Windows 7

I have an X-Fi Extreme Music PCI card and am experiencing weird audio stuttering/looping in Windows 7 RC. I've had similar problems with other creative cards and setups through the years, but this is particularly bad and interferes with gameplay. It seems to occur most often during cutscenes and the like.
Big problem apps so far have been Batman Arkham Asylum and Need for Speed Shift.
The rest of my setup is:
    CPU: Intel Core i7 920
    Motherboard: MSI X58 Pro-E
    Memory: 2 gigs OCZ RAM
Video Card: GeForce GTX 295/GeForce GTX 8800 (For Phys-X)
    Dri'ves: 2 SATA dri'ves
Has anyone else here experienced (and hopefully resolved) any similar issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
