Sound sync issue in slideshow in iDVD...

I have been making a DVD from a recent holiday to Mexico. Got two Movies on there from dolphin swims, and then two slideshows. One just to look through manually, and one put with music.
The slideshow with music lasts around 12 minutes, and slides are fit to audio (3 tracks). There are 3 small digital camera movies on there, two at the start, very short, and one 2/3 through which is about 1 minute long. The two at the start play fine, with audio in sync. Audio is in sync right up till 15 seconds through the third movie, but then it cuts all audio, no music or sound.
After the movie end sound comes back on (continuing from where it cut). 5 pictures from the end it then jumps and catches up with itself.
Any idea's?
I should mention this is using a disc image i have created and mounted and not from an actual burnt DVD.

I'm just curious if you tried making a disc image prior to burning this presentation to DVD-R and if so, did you use apple's dvd player app to test playback prior to burning? I recommend lowering the burn speed to 4x or lower and using quality media like Verbatim or Maxell while troubleshooting this issue.
Not sure I have a solution here other than to try the same slideshow at the start of the of the DVD or at the end and avoid placing it in the middle since it calls for user interaction for all manually advanced slides.
Hope this suggestion helps but if not just come on back.

  • Sound Sync issues

Hi there. Can anyone help me with this. I've recently captured footage from DVCPRO HD tapes (1080i25p) to the DVCPRO HD format (1080 25i) in FCP through my KONA 3. The footage i have of an interview seems to be out of synch with the sound...not sure by how much, but after doing what i'll explain next, i'm betting it's about 4 frames!
I wasn't too concerned as it's something i've noticed before and thought that i could have made a mistake with the capture (the KONA 3 is new) and i'm fairly happy to re-sync the sound if needs be. The main problem is that i have now opened an old project (DV PAL) that needs a number of sequences printed to DV tape for my client. Upon opening my project it seems that all the sync to the interviews in the project are now 4 frames out!! Very annoying!
I can't find anything that could be wrong here within my settings and can't quite get to grips with it but suffice to say, i could do with a pretty quick solution!
I don't have my RAID turned on with my other project and am just running this from a firewire 800 drive. The project has not been touched since about a week ago when everything was fine!! I've tried deleting all my render files for the project but this hasn't helped either.
If anyone can help with this i'd really appreciate it
    thanks
    Alex

Thanks Ken, I've managed to resolve the issue to a certain extent now. There did seem to be some sort of lag introduced by the Kona even though i wasn't directing sound through it or even had anything plugged in to the sound out connectors on the breakout box. I disconnected the HDCAM deck i have in the suite from the breakout box and things are now back in sync. A solution, but certainly would be interested to know why as I'd like to think i'd be able to cut stuff even if a deck is connected to my breakout box.

  • Exporting Sound Sync issue.

    Hi Guys.
I have a problem thats been driving me absolutely crazy all day and I really hope I can get help here.
Basically a few months ago I was working on a project on final cut express. This week I had to re-open the project and make some small amendments.
That project is lots of very small clips of about 30 seconds to a minute long. I have all of the clips on one timeline as I find them easier to break up (I have about 50 small clips to work with)
Once I had exported the clips that I needed I then use handbrake to convert them to mp4 files which are then sent to a web designer who uses them on his website.
The issue that I have is that he has told me that the new amended clips are out of sync when he plays them through windows media player or uploads them on to his site. They play fine on my mac as MOV files and also once they are converted to MP4. I have also sent these to a few other people with windows media player and they are saying the same thing.
I was confident I had used the same settings when I sent all of the previous work to him a few weeks beforehand and could not spot anything when I checked all my settings over.
Bare in mind the work I had previously sent him which played fine and he is currently using is from the same footage, the same project file and timeline. I cant see any differences in the export settings.
I tried a few things out to see if I could spot the problem.
I sent the clip to him as a MOV file which had not been encoded to MP4 and he said it worked fine but this was about 32mg which is too big for him.
I re- exported some of the previous clips that worked fine for him which were about the same time in length, sent them to him and he said they still play fine.
The video that he is having problems with is about 1.00 long so I exported about 10 seconds of that clip as a test and he has told me this is working fine.
As soon as I export the clip to the full 1.00 and encode it to MP4 he encounters this problem and I really have no idea why this is, it seems to only happen with these few clips that I amended a few weeks ago but they are on the same time line and same project as almost identical clips that he is saying work ok for him?
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.
As far as im concerned I have exported tons of work lately with the exact same settings and have never had this issue before.

Open the FCE preferences and select the highest quality for audio.
Did the render bars in the audi o Timeline change?
If so render and try another export.
    PS: Mixdown before export.

  • Weird Sound sync issue.

    hi!
I am currently editing a concert in CS3, and have encountered some strange audio sync problems.
I used seven cameras in the production (two dvx, one XM2, and the rest was HDV cameras from Sony)
One of the DVX cameras supplies the sound that shall be used in the final product and I have this camera on V1 in CS3. The problem occurs when I try to sync either one of the HDV cameras or the XM2 to the V1 Audio (dvx). The sound on each source is in sync with the Video, but when i try to sync the video from let's say one hdv camera to the sound from the dvx it slowly get's out of sync. I also tried to sync the other dvx video with the V1 dvx Audio, and no sync problems occured. Only when I use the hdv or xm2 video.
All of the dv tapes from all cameras was captured in CS3 with the DVX, so I guess this could be the source of the problem.

well. I managed to fix the problem.
Captured with Windows Movie Maker instead!! And imported the video to cs3.

  • VCast voice sync issues

Thanks for creating the VCast application for Android!
I've really enjoyed it, but I've also been very frustrated with the quality. I see a lot of skipping, pixelation, and sound sync issues. It seems anytime I get any disruption in feed, the entire video gets out of sync with the sound. It wouldn't be bad if it was every now and again, but it happens 90% of the time. It pretty much nullifys the whole experience.
I don't understand why I would have these issues when I have 3/4 bars of reception.
    Thanks.

Try  dialing *228 send and option 2 to update your PRL.  After doing so, do a battery pull, to reset the phone. Did you check the area you are in for V cast coverage?  Hope this helps!

  • Help please... Audio sync issues going from iMovie to iDVD (iLife '09 packa

I've tried technical support, I've tried looking online but nothing seems to have helped, so here's the problem:
I have a video/movie, that is around 58 minutes long, I share it to iDVD and the other media formats from iMovie. The vid has music, transitions, titles, credits, etc... It plays fine in iMovie while I am editing it. The problem comes when I try to export it to another media format and to iDVD.
There's a section that has major audio sync issues that I have no idea how to even begin to fix. There is audio and music from the 55 minute mark that plays over the 27 minute mark for a good 3 minutes of video and audio.
I've tried some of the suggestions I've come across but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have anything that they can offer this very frustrated guy? Please and thank you in advance.

I don't shoot 12 bit audio (ever) so I'm not an expert on fixing it or converting it back to 16 bit audio. I can only report what others on this forum claim to have worked (in some cases with marginal success).
The ones that comes to mind are:
    1. video and audio extraction in an attempt to re sync.
    2. exporting back to the camera from iMovie and then re-importing as 16 bit.

  • IDVD slideshow to iDVD - quality issues/concerns/need general assistance.

I've never been able to master a photo slideshow of quality. I used to use iMovie HD and then export to iDVD which I liked as I could control where the music plays, add special effects titles. The photo quality when burned to DVD was less than what I had hoped for. I have a new project that I'm working on, however, that I'd really like to look special and well, impressive. I read that a good option would be to drop the iMovie project into iDVD which would provide better results than "sending the project to iDVD" or that I could use iDVD to create the slideshow but the photo limit rules that option out.
I'm down to using iPhoto now, and I've created a slideshow that looks good so far, but I wanted to check on the settings. The slideshow will be viewed on a widescreen TV, but since the pictures are not all widescreen, should I use the 4:3 setting before exporting to iDVD? Also, should I crop each photo for TV viewing? Do I need to do specific edits to each photo?
and Last, I created a slideshow, from an event - I cut out A LOT of pics when I made the slideshow - is there anyway I could just import the slideshow to iMovie? rather than going through all of the photos again cutting out what I don't need? The slideshow is not in the media window in iMovie - it looks like you really can't do much once a slideshow is created.
Even with what i've read, I'd like some advice for best results.
    Thanks!

iDVD uses images in the 4:3 size ratio so as long as your images are in that ratio you don't need to do any cropping.
If played on a widescreen TV many DVD players have the capability to present the images at different display options, like Full, Zoom, 4:3, etc. Those decisions are at the viewer's discretion. If you create a 4:3 IDVD project it will play with blank screen at either edge by default.
You can crop your photos to 16:9 before creating your slideshow so the widescreen option can be used in iDVD. Then you will get a full screen slideshow on all the newer widescreen format TVs. Often cropping to the 16:9 ratio loses some important part of the photo but that would be under your control.
I've had better final image quality when I built the slideshow in iDVD from stills rather than in iPhoto and exporting to iDVD as a QT file. There are downsides to this method, i.e. only one transition per slideshow, no Ken Burns effect. However, I've found that creating playlists for the music to be easier in iDVD.

  • So frustrating that nobody knows why. Audio Sync issue.

I have an imovie project of old family footage that was ported over from VHS through a sony dcr pc120e mini dv cam straight through to intel imac via firewire. The imovie project is flawless and the sound is perfectly in sync. ive exported to idvd and when finished the audio is out of sync on the final disk. Now i have been reading about this issue and see that people blame idvd8 but it happens when i make a dvd with my imovie project using toast titanium 9 too. Surely if it plays perfectly as an imovie project there must be a way of transferring to dvd without audio sync issues. If anyone knows a solution or piece of software that will remedy this please please let me know as i have wasted about 12 dvds in various experiments.

    mogreen wrote:
camcorder on 16bit, i am using a vhs player attacthed to camera then firewire to imac, ... the imovie project is perfect in everyway. Everything is pal. Yes i did export to QT within IM and this was also out of sync.
thanks for answering some of my Qs ...
there's one thing, I do suspect, which was a 'source' for sync-weirdness for years.. which is the AUDIO connected to some video.
you told us, video is 25fps, and audio is included 16bit (which is good...)
I assume, adding some NON-conform audio could cause trouble... (as a 12bit audio would cause outofsynciness) .. we do know very little about, how iM08 handles audio+video internally, we 'Silverbacks' had long discussions about really weird side effects as a 'zooming' of dvfiles on export etc. I wouldn't be surprised, if adding some non-iTS, non-48kHz-aiff, non-whatever... causes such an effect.
so, please answer my audio Q from above: source, format, bitrate...?
and just for curiosity: how long is your project in total? hh:min:sec?
    ==edit==
pops into mind: in iM vers3, there was some 'bug', concerning PAL wrong audio and NTSC good audio ... wow < scratching bald head > .. try to contact some wiseguy with better memory..

  • IMovie 6 Audio Sync Issues

I have a Canon HV10 HDV camcorder and I am having issues with my video and audio being out of sync in iMovie. I have not attempted to move the movie to iDVD or QuickTime. My movie is a little over 28 minutes. I have the limit scene length setting set to 2 minutes. I am recording in 16 bit audio - not 12. I have made a few very small movies with this camera without issue. This is the longest movie I have imported so far. I have about 66G of hard drive space prior to import and about 48G after.

    Kurt,
I have been following this thread and although I have a Sony HC-3 I share your pain. I do not have audio sync problems after importing its only when I add transition between clips that I have sync problems.
The long and the short of it is that there seems to be an issue with any and all HD content with iMovie. From what I can find here and on other forums is that the audio sync issues comes in a couple flavors.
    1. Audio sync with 12 bit audio. iMove does not like 12 bit audio stream, find out what kind of audio stream your camera has, many have 12 bit audio to allow for stereo sound with minimal space on the take, 16 bit takes up more and usually is mono sound.
    2. Even 16bit Audio streams have issues with HD content. Not so much when you capture its when you perform any editing that involves the transition of audio where iMovie must manipulate the stream in some way.
Now with that out on the table, what is Apple's position on this?
Items they have had me try:
Clear the Cache's and settings, re-install the program (iMovie), and the last thing they told me was, "Well iMovie is not a professional product and it is not going to be perfect".
My opinion is that they have not or will not attempt to research this issue because they do not feel it is a wide spread issue OR they are working to develop the newer version and hope that resolves the problem.
Lastly I have Final Cut Express HD, and I am here to tell you it does not express the same issues as iMovie although it take a little more effort to produce the same results than it does with iMovie.
I am confident that there will eventually a solution for this an other issues, it just takes time and effort on others to resolve. I am grateful to others here in the forums and I know Apple support keeps their ears to the pavement when it comes to the forums, but lets face it unless many. many people contact the Support department with Apple nothing will get done. It's next to impossible for everyone here to experience the same issues you and I are having, so that is why these forums are so useful. People helping people, keep up the good work everyone and I know I am grateful to any and all help that is given here in the forums by others willing to take the time to share their knowledge and expertise.
    Thank you!

  • How do I get rid of lip-sync issues with iTunes 10.2.2.12?

    Hi Everyone.
    Firstly, a very Happy Easter!
I'm having lip-sync issues with iTunes playback on my PC. The video is largely smooth with the occaisional choppiness when the CPU is made to work hard. (Playback on my iPod Touch is fine).
The system stats for my PC are at the bottom of the post.
The sound is produced through a Creative Live Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card.
Video is through a NVIDIA Geforce 6200 with 512Mb of RAM. (All video and audio drivers are up to date).
The physical set-up is that I have iTunes installed on the C drive and my media installed on an external USB hard-drive.This isn't just a problem with 10.2.2.12 - it's been there for the last few updates.
I suppose my main questions are:
Should iTunes and my media be on the same drive? (Which would mean the external drive as I'm short on space on the C drive).
Is there some combination of settings in QuickTime that will solve this? (I've tried different combinations, but it doesn't really help).
Is the spec (below) of my PC causing any issues.
Here's an Easter Egg for anyone able to help!!
    All the best

  • Slideshows in iDVD

I am intending to convert my complete iPhoto Library to slideshows in iDVD for ready access.
I'm not looking for a best route, this has been well covered elsewhere.
For 99.9% of my collection I will use them in only two ways, slideshow in iDVD, printing as a 6 x 4, and 99% are landscape.
I am about to go through the whole collection (2,400) to crop to 6 x 4 on the assumption it will provide the best iDVD/iMovie input and it is the proportion I would print.
Are there any snags or thoughts on this?

    David:
What size are the files currently? iDVD wants files that are at a 4:3 ratio which is the default size for many digital cameras so that the TV screen is totally filled by the slideshow. Using 6x4 images in the iDVD slideshow will not give you the best results. They will not fill up the screen on the TV and you will be left with black bars at the top and bottom, kind of like a letterbox effect, which may be OK.
It sounds like you plan to include the original files on the DVD for printing later. I think you'd be best served to keep them at the 4:3 ratio and then crop when printing at that later date. You can always downsize but you can't go in the other direction.

  • HDMI Sound Sync Problem

I've rented 5 movies and watched a couple of podcasts via Apple TV. In 5 of the 7 screenings, we've experienced problems with the sound failing to sync to the video. It's particularly bad with the Apple Keynotes. I have Apple TV connected via an HDMI cable to a Sony 1010 HD receiver, which is linked via HDMI to a Bravia 52" TV. I've tried direct hookup to the HDMI port on the TV and wound up with the same syncing problems. The receiver has a sync adjustment that I can use to get it close to sync but it's a pain and you have to stop watching the movie to **** around with it. Any suggestions?

I had an audio sync issue over HDMI when I had Settings / Audio & Video / Dolby Digital Out set to 'On' (which I had to do to get my receiver to detect the Dolby Digital Optical signal). Turning this setting to 'Auto' or off fixed my sync issues when using the HDMI audio stream.

  • A/V out-of-sync issue for FCP captures

I've read many of the out-of-sync posts on this board, most of which seem to indicate that the problem is usually caused by either dropped frames, bad timecode breaks, edit errors, or disunity between FCP capture and sequence settings, compared with audio sample rates for the underlying files.
My files, shot on my Panasonic AG-DVX100A in 24pa mode, result in perfect (except for the anamorphic screen size - see my next post!) Quicktime movie files, in perfect sync. It's only when I create clips from those files in FCP that the video and audio go out of sync. And the out-of-sync drifts; that is, the further you go in the clip, the more out of sync the sound and the video gets.
My camera is always set to the 24pa mode, which, by default, records only in the non-drop-frame mode, regardless of any other camera settings I may have selected. The audio settings in my camera (and in the resulting underlying QT files that are created when I capture in FCP) are 16-bit integer and 48.000 khz, as they are in both my FCP sequence presets and capture presets, so I don't think it's an issue of conflicting sample rates. My device control presets are for Firewire NTSC NDF (non dropped frame).
Given the above information, does anyone have any idea what else I might be doing wrong? I've already shot hundreds of hours of footage last year that worked fine. I don't know what I changed to cause this out-of-sync problem now, but I'm going bald tearing out my hair trying to figure it out.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The dvd recorder was in the loop when the sync issue showed up.  the dvd was in sync but the live stream, next in line, was out of sync.  I have returned to using the older machine with xp.  (the lap top is running vista)  The older machine is a desktop which requires more space on the production table and time to set up.

  • ICloud Sync issues between iPhone and MacBook

I have a peculiar problem. I have iCloud turned on for Contacts, Calendar and Notes between my iPhone 6P and my MacBookPro running OS X 10.10.2. If I make  a change or add an entry on the MBP, it does not show up on the iPhone until I make a change to something on the iPhone, then the iPhone changes go to the MBP, and the MBP changes then, and only then, appear on the iPhone.
I have the same iCloud account on both devices. Very confused. (I have not done anything regarding Family Sharing, and I do have the iCloud drive turned on.)
    Any clues?
