Sound turning down

I have big problem with sound on my G4 MacMini. When i was playing Fallout 2 my sound suddenly turned off. When i quit game and tried to play any music it was still silent. Tried to turn volume up but it was turning down again. When i rebooted system i could hear sound for 10 second but after this time it muted again. I can turn it up in sound preferences and i hear music but its turning itself down in a blink of an eye. Tried to unplug keyboard but it does nothing. Now i see this volume indicator on my screen whole time and it doesn't disappear. Do anybody had this problem?? Can anybody tell me how to repair it?

Problem fixed... my wireless mouse hanged itself an my usb hub... when i clicked anything volume was turning down... stupid but true. whe i reconnected them bot everything was ok:P

I have a strange problem with my audio in Vista. I have a Creative Audigy 2 and Creative 6700 speakers. My full system specification is below but please note I did not have this issue in my previous Vista build - its only happening since I did a reinstall. Anyway, when I swich on the speakers using the remote control unit for the 6700 speakers the sound comes on but then it turns down. I have to then increase the volume by a large amount for it to start playing sound again and then turn it down to listening volume. This issue is not application specific - it happens in everything: Winamp, WMP, games, etc etc?I'm using [color="#000000"]Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series Vista Driver 2.2.0002 and I've tried reinstall several times. I've tried doing diagnostic startup etc using msconfig in case something was conflicting and its still happening.

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
    2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck

  • Mac Mini sound continually turning down

My mac mini sound is continually turning down. When I hit the sound up button, the sound goes up for a millisecond and then goes back down. It is really annoying because the sound up icon is in the middle of my screen. This problem has been occurring on and off for a week now.

Ok I found out how to fix it. I deleted my audio cache and it hasn't done it again.

  • Tried reset, taking off case, no Bluetooth but sound effects keeps appearing in middle of screen. If I turn down volume it goes away but then comes back. Sometimes immediately. Sometimes in 5 minutes. Am not touching anything on side of iPad at the time

Cannot get sound effects icon to stop coming on.   When I turn down the volume, the icon goes off briefly and then it comes back on at full volume and stays in the middle of the screen, until I click the volume down again.  Doesn't help to reset, the case is not on and it still does this. Most annoying.

    Tried any basic troubleshooting steps?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.

Turn the volume down before you shut down the MBair, the startup tone should be the same volume as when you shut down.

  • Unable to turn down sound in Yosemite

    To all,
I have a problem that I haven't seen until I upgraded to Yosemite.  The situation is, Im listening to Pandora or iTunes, and Im unable to turn down the sound from the speaker icon in the menu bar.  No matter where I put the speaker, it will not decrease or increase the volume, however if I go into System Preferences and then sound, I can adjust the sound from there, or individually in applications like the ones previously mentioned.  Thanks for the help!
    Todd

If you have the ambient light sensor on and are under bright lights, that could be the outcome. You can turn off the ambient sensor to see if that is the issue. The check box for this is right below the slider you referenced.

  • Do you have any ideas on how I may resume my TV volume to full capability after disconnecting the HDMI cable and Macbook Pro to watch DVD's somehow my tv volume got turned down and I can't get it to restore fully. Any constructive ideas?

I  used the HDMI cable from my Macbook Pro to my Panasonic TV to watch DVD's but I had no sound, so I used the community suggestion in going to system preferences>sound etc. followed the instructions and got great sound in fact very loud to my TV so I turned down the volume from my TV remote control. After watching the DVD's I disconnected the HDMI from my TV and realized for some reason my TV volume now is not returning to it's full volume even though I've tried to turn it to it's maximum. Any constructive assistance is truly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, it's a simple fix that should give most people what they want until there is full VZW support: the ability to use their card with the VZAM software.  I didn't see anyone else offering that suggestion...  If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.
At the very least, this does seem to prove the theory that this is an issue with the 32/64bit compatability that some have refuted.

  • USB Mic Volume automatically turned down by OSX??

I have a Plantronics USB Headset that I use for skype and recording my podcast. It seems when I begin talking into the mic the volume is lowered automatically by OSX. I can even watch it get turned down when I have the input volume settings open in the System Preferences. It makes the input so low that I sound noticeably quieter then everyone talking to me through skype.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi.
I was having the same problem and was about to bump this question, but I might have just found the solution on the skype forums and I thought I'd mention it so we can both test it to confirm if it works.
Basically, you need to add something to a file. It's in Library/Application Support/Skype inside your home directory. It's called shared.xml. Near the bottom of the file, you'll find section called <VoiceEng>. You need to exit Skype and then add a line to that section, like so...
    <VoiceEng>
      <AGC>0</AGC>
      <MicBoost>
Etc. I've only tested this by calling the Test Call number so I can't say for sure that it works. Maybe you can test it too.
I got this information from here...

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Tlabounty,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with the microphone on your iPhone 5. To troubleshoot this issue, you may find the information in this article helpful:
    iPhone: Microphone issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183
Note that speakerphone and regular calls utilize seperate microphones on the device. It sounds like you have isolated the issue. Furthermore, if you determine that the issue is hardware related, the following resource may help you get started with the service process:

  • Is it safe to turn down the fanspeed on my nx6800?

    Hi,
I just bought a new case that's really silent, and now the sound of the VGA cooler on my MSI NX6800-TD128 (non-ultra, just plain geforce 6800) really stands out. I would like to turn it down (it's on max now, as per default) but how low can I turn it and still be able to, say, play doom 3 without my card getting too hot? I haven't overclocked it, and I have the copper cooler. The ambient temperature in my case is about 28C if the motherboard is to be trusted. Does the card have a thermal sensor somewhere, and if it does, how high can I allow the temperature to go?
I read somewhere that it would even be safe to turn down the fan to minimum (http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/nv40-5.html), but I figured I'd ask here first.
    Thanks!

28C is a comperetivly low case temperture.
You sould be able to reduce it a bit, say 30%. If it does run too hot you will notice so called artifacts.
Just raise the fan speed after that happens.
If u want to make it really silent, get one of these:

  • Inspire s2 wireless turns down the volume by itself.

Hey. I bought my Inspire about a year ago and it worked fine.
Then suddenly when i connected it to my laptop it turns the volume down. I can turn it up again but it just keeps muting.
First i thought it was my laptop settings and i'm not a geniuos with computers.
But then i connected the speakers with my iPod touch and it still turns down the volume totally random. It does it approx every 5 minutes.
Can anyone tell what the devil the matter is?
(Sorry for my english, i'm danish :P )?

    Hi,
Sorry but this doesn't sound right, I suppose something's wrong with the speakers. You might want to contact Customer Support for assistance.

Why did the swoosh sound turn off when I send and e-mail message in Mail?

First is your volume turned up and not muted?
Also check system preferences/sound/sound effects, make sure play sound effects thru internal speakers is checked, make sure alert volume is turned up (not all the way down), Play user sound effects id checked.

  • Took phone update and now can't turn down volume all the way?

I took the latest phone system software update, and now when I turn down the volume (using the volume button on the side) the lowest it will go is vibrate instead of silent.  This is annoying, because I sometimes like to turn it all the way down in meetings or when I sleep at night, but it vibrates on incoming calls or corporate e-mail notifications.
Why did you guys do away with the fully-minimized volume choice?
The Motorola Droid (Droid 1, I suppose), under the original software load, allowed you to turn down volume (in some number of steps), down to Vibrate, and then finally all the way Off.  The only sound it would make would be if you set an alarm clock.
With the new load, turning it down only goes to vibrate, and not silent.
The "Silent Mode" available when pressing the power button should be more appropriately named "Vibrate Mode."  It appears that there is no longer a true "silent" mode under the Droid O/S.
I looked at a number of marketplace apps, but they all seem to be based on a timer setting, i.e.  set a time frame that you don't want any sounds.
Why did Verizon (or is it Google?) have to break something that didn't need fixing?

It's a known issue and has been discussed numerous times. If you need quick access, you can get beautiful silent from the market for free which will allow you have a widget on your homescreen for silent mode.
