Sound volume keeps changing

Hi,
I bought my hp dm4-3055dx 2 weeks ago and I have problems with the sound ever since the beginning. I'm using the pre-installed Windows 7 64 bit OS.
The problem with the sound is the following: The sound volume keeps changing. Sometimes it seems to me that it's oscillating. The Windows volume (in the tray) is constant though. For example, when I turn the volume of my Winamp player to 1% the volume of the sound decreases, but after some seconds it starts increasing until it hits the Windows maximum volume, then it starts oscillating a little bit. Increasing the Winamp volume doesn't change anything, cause it's already the Windows maximum. But when I turn it down again, there's again a change. But as I described before, the volume will go up slowly to the Windows maximum. I have encountered the same problem with the VLC player, so I guess it's not a software problem.
I already downloaded the sound driver and installed it but there was no change. Any idea what that could be?
Cheers

Any response here?  I am having the same problem in that the sound constantly fluctuates up and down as I am trying to listen, no matter if I listen through Spotify or ITunes.  It is very frustrating and I am seeing similiar posts for many models, especially considering this was marketed as a Beats Audio laptop with superior sound performance.  I have the Pavillion dm4-3055dx.

If you use LogMeIn, it is their sound driver.  I'm having identical problem and it started after using LogMeIn.

  • Volume Slider in Sound Settings Keeps Changing!

I usually keep the volume slider in settings/sound at max so I can hear the ringer when I have it on. I always did this with my original iphone and I had no problems with this. With the new phone every time I set the slider to max it will revert back to about 2/3 the way across. It does this every time I put the phone to sleep and then reawaken it, every time I take or make a call, essentially every time I do anything after exiting the settings feature. I have done the reset by holding the top button along with the Home button until the Apple logo appears and this doesn't help either. Has anyone else seen this or have a solution?
    John

I just noticed this on my wife's iphone which was my original iphone that has been updated with the new software. I'm thinking it has something to do with the new software, that phone never did that with me prior to all this.

  • Volume keeps changing automatically while playing music in iTunes

Recently my iTunes has started to automatically change the volume up and down while my audio or video plays in iTunes. This happens when I'm playing from my library and also when I put in a DVD/CD. It does not happen on my iPod after it is synched through iTunes, though. It's quite annoying and I could use some suggestions in fixing this glitch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Sound input keeps changing

I have a VXI Parrott Translator USB mic. It works fine for everything, including iChat. The only problem I have is that under the sound input options, it shows as 3 devices – External Line Connector / Microphone / External Line Connector & Microphone.
The problem is that when I start an audio iChat, the input automatically switches to the first option, which doesn't actually receive any audio. I can then switch it to the second option and have the conversation. When the conversation finishes, it switches to the first option again.
Any thoughts of how to get it to stay with the "Microphone" source? I've tried this both on my Mac Pro (10.5.5) and eMac (10.4.11).

    Hi,
So despite the Pic I found it does not have something like this ?
    http://www.vxicorp.com/storefront/pc-237-32-talkpro-2-way-usb-pod.aspx
    From the manufacturer's site.
I can not see the Translator on their site
    May This has replaced it.
However it still does not look like you can connect one jack to the Line In and another to the USB port which is what I was thinking about.
It is the iChat Preferences that Change ?
The choice would be kept in the com.apple.ichat.plist and I suppose there is a chance it is not being written to that file properly.
GO to your Home Folder (Little House iCon) and the Preferences folder.
Choose a view method where you can see the Modification date/time.
Does it list the time you last changed it ? (It should change the time in front of you if you do it while that folder is open)
(You can always click on the Modification column header to highlight/use that column)

  • Volume Keeps Changing to full

When I change my ipod volume down to any level, it will gradually increase back up to full again, even when it is on lock. There are no mobile phones that could interfere with it or any other devices near by. Is this a known bug within the ipod nano?

I have exactly the opposite problem. After resetting to factory settings it starts about 50% and will not save at a higher level. To listen at a higher level we have to not "set" the volume limit after adjusting it but leave it at that point untouched. I'm glad to see it is a common issue though I wish there was a more direct way to contact Apple for them to get their butt in gear.

  • Audigy 2 Sound volume keeps dropping to 0 by itself

? I have an Audigy 2 (Dell OEM) card, running on XP SP3 in a Dell XPS 630i PC. I'm using daniel_k support pack 3.6. 5. analog speakers (Altec Lansing ADA 995)
Everything has been working well,?until in the past few days, after some time, the volume drops to 0 by itself. Resetting it in the volume control in systray or in surround mixer, it may stay at the chosen setting for a while, then drops back to 0. I have not been able to associate the problem with any particular window being open, or sound being used in e.g. playing music. Diagnostics passes all tests when the volume is not 0)
Although I can't measure the temperature of the Audigy card itself, I don't think there is overheating, as the rear (exhaust) temperature is 35C, according to Nvidia system monitor. Other temps (CPU, GPU, hard dri'ves are also normal.
Advice on the cause would be welcome.

? No, no hibernation and no standby during?hours of use (I don't use a screen saver but close down the PC every night and restart it in the morning). Also no logging in or out, mine is the only account and I auto log in to Windows.
Also no DDL or DTS installed (I uninstalled DDL and DTS that were installed by?Daniel_k's package immediately as I have no use for them).
I have noticed a possible correlation with sudden sounds, such as apps with sound effects (e.g. solitaire type time wasters that I indulge in) or?telephone line ringing from my fax modem, (but according to dxdiag?that uses modem#0?line playback (emulated) and not SB Audigy 2?[EE0]?when the phone rings). It doesn't seem to happen if I'm just using WMP to play music or using an app that has no particular sound effects.
All direct sound?tests pass in dxdiag.
I do hope it's not the card going. I've had it in various PCs since 2003.

  • Volume keeps changing

Recently whenever I'm listening to music my iPod decides to randomly turn itself down, despite the fact I always have it locked to prevent this exact situation!
How do I stop this from happening? It's really starting to get on my nerves!

When that happens to me, my iPod has been sitting in the sun for a while. Or you can try restoring it

  • Loss of sound effect when changing volume.

    Hi there,
I have just purchased a Macbook Pro and everything was going well until I noticed that when I changed the volume using the F11 and F12 keys, the sound effect would no longer be produced. I have been through Sounds in System Preferences and checked all the settings are correct, even the 'play feedback when volume is changed' option is checked. All I have been doing so far is using iTunes and using the internet. I also loaded djay but I don't think this would have anything to do with it. Please help.

iCloud only keeps photo stream photos for 30 days, even though up to 1000 photos will remain on your devices until deleted.  When you re-enabled photo stream you only received photo stream photos from the last 30 days as older photos are no longer in iCloud.
To change your iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID.  This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.
However, to avoid losing photo stream photos, before deleting the account save them to your camera roll (if not already there).  To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.  Be sure to do this on your other devices first.
To get the missing photos back on your iPod, create a shared photo stream that includes them on one of your other devices and invite yourself as a subscriber (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99).

  • Change the sound volume increment?

Is there a way to change how much the Apple remote and keyboard increments/decrements the system sound volume?
Let me explain... I have the Bose Companion 5 sound system. It comes with a little desktop controller to adjust and mute the volume. The desktop volume controller is nice and all, but it's completely independent from the Mac OS volume controls. I could crank the Bose control all the way up, but doing so makes it such that even the lowest Mac OS volume setting is still louder than I'd like (easily audible through the walls), and quiet white noise is heard even if the Mac is muted. Setting the Bose volume to something in the middle or lower limits my volume flexibility when listening to music and I come across that occasional song that I want cranked louder. I know I'm whining, but hear me out.
I recently bought a new desk and made an interesting discovery while setting everything back up. Somehow I had forgotten to connect the Bose volume controller. When I grabbed the Apple remote to adjust the system volume, it seemed to directly adjust the volume on the Bose system (this setup can get VERY loud this way), and no white noise when the Mac is muted. I love the idea of leaving it like this, but even the first notch above mute (via keyboard or remote) is pretty loud. Finite control is possible from the volume preferences panel, but who wants to open that every time to change the volume?

I don't know if these two AppleScripts will help you or not but give them a try.
Place them in your Applications folder or your AppleScript folder (within your Applications folder), then drag them into your Dock.
They are background scripts so you will not see them launch in the Finder.
Have iTunes playing or some other app playing when you test them.

  • Self changing sound volume

For some unknown reason the volume setting on my mini seems to randomly want to change all by itself. I normally like to have the system volume set to 75% (12 out of 16 spots on the scale) and change the volume through a set of speakers, although every now and then I find that it's reduced by itself to 56% (9 out of 16 spots). The drop in volume is awfully consistent.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or is this a "safety" feature so that will maximise sound volume between restarts or something.

I pondered that although if that were the case all Macs that come with FrontRow would show the same behaviour.
My best guess is that it's like my mother's car stereo. Everytime you turn off the engine the stereo will reset itself to a lower volume to ensure that the next time you turn it on your ears aren't blasted out. Given the higher likelihood that a Mac mini is connected to a home stereo/cinema unit this might be Apple's thinking.
    Who knows… it's just annoying as ****!

  • Volume tracks keep changing

    hi,
Although I don't have any automation or any continuos controller for the volume of the tracks they keep changing.
    any advice?
    Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem for SO long, until just now. Midi tracks would jump up in Volume at certain points, and I couldn't control.
Found the answer (for my issue, at least) here: http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=71347
Now my remaining question is, how can I PREVENT Volume events from being written in? Cause looking at one midi track's events right now, I'd have to go thru the list and delete about 15 different volume events for the volume to not jump around on me...
I think I have Midi Volume assigned to a fader on my midi keyboard... not to figure out how to unlearn that assignment...

  • Bootable Volume Permissions Keep Changing

    I've got a strange problem.
I have two bootable backup volumes on different physical disks...one is a 3.5" firewire hard drive and the seceond is a portable 2.5" firewire hard drive. The permissions of bootable volumes (the volume itself, not the items inside) are supposed to be:
    system: Read and Write
    admin: Read and Write
    everyone: Read only
And, the checkbox for "Ignore ownership on this volume" should NOT be checked.
However, over time, the permissions of these volumes will somehow change to:
my username: Read and Write (my actual admin username)
    (unknown): Read and Write
    everyone: Read only
And, the checkbox for "Ignore ownership on this volume" will become checked--which totally messes up a bootable backup.
If I run Diskwarrior on the volume, the correct permissions for that volume will be restored. BUT...why is this happening?
I'm pretty obsessive about having having bootable backups and have been doing them for years and years. I don't ever remember this happening before. I'm pretty sure it wasn't happening when I was running 10.5.7. I upgraded to 10.5.8 about 3 weeks ago.
Finally, the permissions of these volumes will change even if I haven't done a backup. I'll just mount one of them and voila: the volume permissions have somehow changed since the last time.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

that is very strange because i have the opposite problem. The permissions of my actual hard drive keep changing from
my username: Read and Write (my actual admin username)
    (unknown): Read and Write
    everyone: Read only
    to
    system: Read and Write
    admin: Read and Write
    everyone: Read only
did you find out what was the source of your problem?
