Sound volume low, even though maxed out on sliders

My iMac no longer seems to be playing sound at maximum volume. I am sure it used to be plenty loud, now, I have to really listen when there is sound, especially on things like .mac tutorials. I have the volume sliders maxed out.

Unfortunately, you are not the only one. This has been reported elsewhere, and there doesn't seem to be any fix that I have seen. Your only solution may be to revert to 10.4.6.

  • Mini CQ10t-100 IDT audio volume really low even when maxed out

Just got my mini in today and the audio volume is very low.  Even at 100% you can barely hear it.  Ive downloaded the latest driver on hp's site and im still having the same problem.  Im running Windows XP SP3 with IDT driver version 5.10.6217.0.
Doing some google searches I found a couple of sites that recommended uninstalling the IDT driver and using Vistas High Definition Audio CODEC driver but I dont have that option with XP.  How can I get this working correctly?

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &
    Best regards,
    David

Hi Alxx911, and John Hammer1. After reading John's reply - " You can plug something into it's headphone jack. though" . I thought i'd try out of curiosity. I plugged in some headphones. I didn't expect anything to happen  and nothing happened. The audio jack is for the Dell soundbar which is optional.
Here's a direct copy and paste from the users manual: Section About Your Monitor.
Attaching the Soundbar AX510 / AX510PA (Optional) CAUTION: Do not use with any device other than the Dell Soundbar. NOTE: The Soundbar power connector (+12 V DC output) is for the optional Dell Soundbar AX510/AX510PAonly. To attach the Soundbar: 1. Working from the back of the monitor, attach the Soundbar by aligning the two slots with the two tabs along the bottom of the monitor. 2. Slide the Soundbar to the left until it snaps into place. 3.  Connectthe Soundbar with the DC power connector. 4. Insert the mini stereo plug from the back of the Soundbar into the computerís audio output jack. For HDMI/DP, you can insert the mini stereo plug into the monitorís audio output port.  If there is no sound, check your PC if the Audio output is configured to HDMI/DP output.
This monitor has no speakers. (Like John Hammer1 mentioned). The no speakers feature was one of the reasons I chose this monitor.
    Good Luck !

Use the volume buttons on the side of the phone.  Personally, I find it's better with those off completely.

  • Z68A-GD55 (G3) Sound Volume Low

I recently bought a Z68A-GD55 (G3) MB, and so far the only gripe i have with it is the fact that the sound volume is low. I'm using headphones plugged into the onboard audio jack in the back. I've turned up all available volumes, and installed the latest drivers. I know it is not the headphones as I have a Logitech USB headphone converter and the sound is nice on that. The sound was also great on my previous MB (P7N Diamond) using the Creative X-Fi card.
Anyone else experience this issue, and/or know a fix?

No offence here but can you make sure that you are plugging your headphone into the Green color port?
I have once encountered similar issue once only to realise that I plugged into the port of the wrong color.

  • Sound is low even i set for max volume

    Hi All,
I have a T60p Think Pad, The problem i am facing is .. even i set the max volume in my TP in volume control icon in systray and
media player as well , I am hearing very low sound when compared to other TP's such as R52 ..are there any settings to be done so that i get volume more ..any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks

Have you tried pushing the volume buttons near the top of the keyboard to adjust volume?
Also check your device manager to make sure there are no issues with your sound driver.

  • SOUND VOLume low

In making (trying to make) my first two podcast in Garage Band my final file has low overall audio levels. I have to turn my speakers up to the max, almost, to hear it right.
Thinking about it, it would be nice to have something that Measures the final audio output...is there anything like that, so at least I could know the output was too low? And to get some consistency in audio output?
Or, even better, is there a way of boosting the whole audio output of the final file?
I have the shareware program Audio Hijack; can that be used in any way? Using an AU or VST? I can do that for mic input and it changes things but could it, or something else, be used for the volumn level of the audio output and maybe getting some consistency; measuring the decibels or something like that?

Thank you for your basic and solid replies.
I have the freebie Levelator but haven't tried it (D'uh!) because I thought I read something about it being for voice only.
I re-did all my first three podcast projects/my first three audio composition projects... and paid more attention to the volumn levels, although I allowed some clipping (red zone..) to slip in but the volumn came out a lot better. . Good enough, I suppose.
The overall sound quality, though, I think is: TERRIBLE. I think my USB mic (Parrott TalkPro Xpress) is high-quality enough -- It's hightly rated and works perfect for voice commands and even dictitation (with iListen). I think I'm just very inexperienced so I'm going to read up on it all and start from scratch.
I noticed this Apple Seminar, at: http://seminars.apple.com/seminarsonline/podcast/apple/index.html?s=300 , so I'm gonna check that out.
I think I'm making a mistake going through Audio Hijack and using some AU units but I was wanting to get voice effects for this and other projects.
If anyone wants to listen to TERRIBLE audio (and maybe there's some obvious thing wrong that could be noticed), my three enhanced podcasts on iTunes are at:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=251665534
The first one's less than a minute; the second one under two minutes.
(Warning: If you think the wars in the Middle East are great, this definitely is not something you'd want to hear.)
Um...I found getting these first podcast successfully on iTunes so initially complicated that I'm just leaving them there because if I take 'em down I'd worry I'd have to go through all the trial and errors again. So...Terrible as the audio is, there they are.
Any feedback, other than telling me to cut out my tongue, is appreciated.

  • Sound volume low full volume can't hardly hear it hp g71 notebook

I cannot get volume loud enough to hear with full volume. volume slides seem to work but very low volume when turned full up.

To go a few steps further on what Peter has provided on the Speaker Icon, right-click and choose "Playback devices", then highlight "Speakers", which should be selected as the "default" for playback, then select "Properties", then choose the "Enhancements" tab and check-mark the "Loudness Equalization" for a possible audio boost. Hope this provides some joy.

  • Vol is low even though adj all the way up.

I have set up and adjusted vol high and still is low how can I correct this problem ?

    Hi,
One thing can help is the following.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.

  • When I export an iMovie Project with a sped up clip, the sound is squeaky even though I lowered the pitch in iMovie. Help?

I've lowered the pitch of th video in iMovie, but when exported, the sound is very high pitched and squeaky.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMovie. There's an iMovie Support Community where everybody uses iMovie. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie
