Sound with isight

is there any way to record sound when you are recording video in imovie using the isight camera? i can't figure it out.

It should be working automatically assuming the camera is recording video.
You may have the record level too low or off, or you may not have the right device selected in system preferences.
1. Click the apple on the menu bar
2. Clic System Preferences
3. Click Sound (right side, second row from top)
4. Click the Input tab
5. Make sure the correct Mic is selected (I'm assuming Internal Microphone)
6. Talk and you can test the input level in the onscreen meter.
7. Adjust input volume as needed, but center the selector should be fine
8. Click the red dot to exit System Preferences.

IMovie not recording sound with iSight image

In system preferences > sound, I have Built-in microphone selected. But Audacity won't record sound (never works anyway) and iMovie will record image from the iSight, but no sound.

You're welcome. After further investigation, not only does the volume in the system preferences affect the mic, the actual "voice over" (microphone icon) does as well, even though I'm recording with iSight and not, specifically, a voice over.
However, fantastic YouTube video diaries or whatever they're called must be done on a PC or a Mac that knows how to shut up. If there's one thing right now that's about to make this computer fly through the air, it's the fans that rev up to 6000 and even an external mic picks up the noise. Not much I can do about it. Maybe Snow Leopard and iLife '09 solved the issue.

No sound with external isight

Hi just upgraded to lion to find that I get no sound from my external isight.
Works fine with skype etc, but just no sound with facetime.
Apple please fix, worked great in snow leopard.

(1) External iSight's firewire mic is not supported in the Lion version of the FaceTime app.

No sound or iSight in boot camp with win7

Recently installed Win7 Pro via boot camp and most all has gone fine, with exception of no sound and compatability issue with iSight hardware. Device mgr. does not show specific hardware under sound controller and can't seem to get iSight cam to work, however it is recognized in the device mgr. as well.
Open to all suggestions....thanks in advance!

Bob, you got me thinking....I ASSumed that by keeping the USB drive connected while installing win7 that it would install the appropriate drivers etc. Initially they did, as my screen, mouse, keyboard all worked fine.
When I was searching thru the flash drive for appropriate drivers etc. I noticed "setup.exe. I ran it and it went thru the process and essentially solved the problem.
My comment to readers is to be sure that when in the windows control panel to make sure that BootCamp is listed there, as this was my clue that the installation did not go completely right.
All is OK now, with iSight, trackpad, nVidia control panel, Bluetooth all in operating condition.

Audio low - clips captured with iSight

Hi there,
The video clips that I've captured of myself speaking into the built-in camera with iSight play back with very low volume audio.
I have clicked on "View-Show volume levels" and increased the volume to 150%, but still same problem.
After I exported for Web or for Email - made it into a .mov Quicktime clip -- and sent it to friends, they same the same thing -- LOW VOLUME.
Please someone help me out

You got one of three ways:
2. Extract Your sound and select this + Export as QuickTime as an audio file .aiff.
This file You can open in an audio editor like
- SoundEdit16™ (costs)
- Audacity (free)
- Garageband (included)
and increase as much You need
or
3. Extract the sound. Now You got an audio clip under Your video-clip in timeline.
Select this audio clip + goto Edit + Copy + Paste + Paste + Paste + Paste
Loud enough ???

Low sound from iSight

iWeb makes it fun to record short movies and upload them to the intarwebs. My iSight would be ideal for this. The picture works fine but the sound is too low. I have the iSight about 2-3 ft away. The sound input gain is up to the maximum. It works fine for iChat.
Is there a sound input setting within iMovie which I have missed?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

If you are sure that you have sound in other apps - and if you can still hear keyboard clicks and get notifications, then system sounds are not muted. Try this and see if it works.
Close all apps completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

[SOLVED]No Sound with ALSA - Intel Corporation 82801G HD Audio

Hey all,
I've succesfully installed Arch Linux. My past two attempts have met with failure, all because of my own failure to read and follow directions correctly. This time everything is installed correctly. I am running Kdemod3 on my laptop with Arch and everything works great. I LOVE Pacman and the simplicity of Arch's configuration files. It's super fast and all together simple. My only remaining problem is this:
My sound with ALSA is not functioning. I followed the installation instructions at the arch wiki and after unmuting all of my channels I still would not get any sound. My sound module is snd_hda_intel and it is detected, loaded and the whole nine yards (as far as I can tell). My user is a member of the 'audio' user group also. I looked at the troubleshooting tips on the bottom of the Wiki but decided not to try them as they do not seem to pertain to my card (snd_hda_intel) but I will try them if anyone would like me to.
If anyone has any ideas, they'd be greatly appreciated!:D Anything I can provide that you need I will be more than willing to provide.

Problem resolved. I ran alsaconf, selected my soundcard, and everything was working from there out. Thanks MisfitI38 on the IRC!!!

I'm getting no sound with vmware, not sure why

[SOLVED] No sound (with flash)

Hello.
I have no sound with flash. It does work elsewhere.
I am using ALSA.

for newer versions of flash (like version 9) simply install firefox in wine and let it install the plugin. that usually works great!

NO SOUND with iMAC 24 - Please help

I have tried everything.........searched for drivers, everything, installed boot camp drivers from the CD numerous times.........I can't get rid of the ?pci device that shows up in the device manager. I am using windows xp sp3. The ? still shows up in the device list and I have no sound............everything else is perfect and great, but can't get sound!!!!!!!! I tried to update driver from realtek and sigmatel from the location on the hard drive and CD and no help. I DLed new drivers from realtek, no help..............does anyone know??????????

For those that are interested, this DOES work, as I have just tried this using SP3...........this is from another forum:

Basicly, download the file at the bottom of the page, unzip, go to Device Manager, right click the yellow (?) PCI driver, mark to select your own location and direct it to where you unzipped your file. That's it. UAA driver should be found and you should be able to hear sound.
If not yet, try now to re-install your audio drivers, and it should work. (if on mac, that means re-install boot camp drivers).
When doing the above, if it asks about a missing file, then point to where you just unzipped everything, it should be there, as it was for me. And, finally, in device manager, I still had one more issue for "audio device on high definition BUS" AFTER i corrected the PCI. To fix this, in device manager, I simply selected UPDATE DRIVER and use the MAC CD (or BOOTCAMP) and reinstalled the drivers and all worked fine after...................
I now have sound with my IMAC 24in and Windows XP SP3 (yes, i don't want to use much of XP at all, but it's nice to have............

No Mic Sound with Pulseaudio, works fine with Alsa.

Have a Acer Aspire One D225E that I've set up with Gnome 3. Everything seems to be working except I'm not getting any sound out of my microphone. I've messed around with the sound settings in the gnome settings app with no success. Using alsamixer, I've made sure the mic channel is unmuted.
I'm able to record sound with Audacity using Alsa and play it back fine. When I switch to pulseaudio however, I get nothing. This wouldn't be a problem, except skype only allows you to use pulseaudio to record if you have that installed.
I've checked the wiki troubleshooting section on Pulseaudio and found the section on Acer Aspires, but solutions in the link led to a dead end. Nothing has worked so far that I've tried.

I've been struggling for months, but still no answer. None of the volume tweaking tricks work, obviously, and I couldn't find any useful answers in the PA mailing list.

Cannot record ingame sound with glc (-git)

I have a problem with recording ingame sound with some games with glc (well, glc-git). glc says, it can record sound from games, if they use alsa (or sdl and forcing sdl to use alsa). As long as I don't use pulseaudio, this shouldn't be a problem. But for some games, I can't get the sound recording to work. The 2 at the moment are:
FTL
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
I usually get a message like this:

[ 1.46s alsa_hook error ] 0xa8a8170: can't extract hardware configuration: Operation not supported (95)
I can record the game, but not the audio. If someone can help or test it, if it works for him, that might be nice. Or if someone knows a workaround or so. Or if someone can confirm, that there is no audio recording for those 2 games (but I actually don't wanna hear it... :-) ).

That's not the issue, the problem is that some games are firing 32-bit float audio (0x0e type as indicated in the error) into ALSA through whatever means, and the standard GLC only supports 16, 24 and 32bit signed int audio. My fork above adds very rudimentary support for float.
