Sound won't play in half my movies in iphoto

I have a new samsung i6 camera and everything works fine on my old MS pc and plays great in wmplayer.
On the mac I originally only had sound and no picture, but after trying various downloads I started to get all the pictures. Now, for some reason, the majority of my movies have no sound, but a handful from the same roll do? It also seems that you cannot get rid of quicktime from the iphoto application, if you want to open them in something else?
Any ideas? I've tried them in imovie as well and still the same.
In finder, I tried mplayer and they all play sound - but some (again not all) are speeded up & sound like mickey mouse, but the picture continues at the same speed!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't keep iPhoto from using Quicktime for the movies but there is a workaroud. Find and select one of those movie files and type Command-I to bring up the Info window. Then in the Open with menu, select the application you want as the default application and click on the Apply to all... button.
Now in iPhoto, Control-click on the thumbnail and select Show file. The file will be shown in the Finder where you can double click on it and open it in the player of your choice. Not very elegant but a workaround.
Are there settings on your camera for 12 or 16 bit sound? Most video cameras have it and 12 bit gives some problems but I haven't heard of any digital still cameras with that capability.
If you have QT Pro you can open them in the QT Player, select the Window->Show Movie Properties menu option and check out the various settings for the audio track and video track. You might find a difference between those that play the audio and those that don't that would point you towards a solution.

Got Lion. Now, opening a movie with Quicktime takes 10 seconds, opening ANY application takes twice as long as before, and iTunes won't play most of my movies that used to play in previous versions of iTunes. I'm frustrated. Even the web is markedly slower with pages taking 5-6 seconds to load up (and they are simple pages sans videos).
What gives? Any solutions? Anyone having similar issues?
The ONLY thing that took less time was Disk Utility...it ran in 4 minutes when it used to take 7--8 minutes.

Lion is much more demanding on memory. It is almost unusable on my computers that have 2 gig of memory. On the macbook air I am typing this from, it is using 1.5 Gig of memory out of 2 gig. Anything like playing a movie is going to be quite compromised. SL used about 400 MB for normal low-demand operations. The memory is soldered on in this laptop, so I am screwed, but it is fairly cheap and easy to add memory to most others. OWC is a good place to look. Max it out. I think your iMac can take 6 GB.

Sound won't play in .fla file

Quicktime Pro won't play FCPro exported Qtime mov

I exported mov files from Final Cut. But Quicktime won't play them.
Have installed some 3rd party Codecs but no joy.
What do you think is the problem?

Ipad 2 video and sound won't play (6.1.3)

My iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.3 won't play video or sound. Does anyone know why? Or is there something I need to change in the settings?

Apple TV 2 won't play some of my movies

I ran into a problem yesterday when trying to play a movie for my kids. The movie in question was Despicable Me, which was downloaded through iTunes as part of a "BluRay-DVD-Digital Copy" package that I purchased. When I select the movie from the list on the ATV I get the "an error occurred loading this content" message and it won't play. When I try to send the movie from my iMac to the ATV through Airplay I get the same message on the Mac and the ATV. I checked the info on the movie and saw that it was Fairplay Version 2. So I checked some other movies that I downloaded in the same way and saw that they too were Fairplay Version 2. None of them would play either. So I thought I had found the problem until I tried to play Cars, which I ripped from my DVD to iTunes using Handbrake. I get the same message when I try to play that movie but there is no indication of Fairplay Version 2. All the movies will play just fine in iTunes on my Mac, and other movies that I ripped with Handbrake play just fine as well. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I searched the Discussions and other online forums but can find no help.

OK, I think I just figured something out.
Under Settings/Audio & Video/Audio Languages, I noticed that Chinese & Russian aren't available. All the movies I've been having trouble with have either Chinese or Russian dialog tracks.
I opened one of my movies in Quicktime and selected Show Movie Properties.
I selected Stereo/Other Settings. The Language was properly set as Traditional Chinese. I reset it to English.
I next went to Surround/Other Settings and did the same, Traditional Chinese to English. This wouldn't apply unless you have two audio tracks in your file.
I re-saved the file. Quicktime will append your file with .mov. Changing it back to .m4v or .mp4 seems to make it unplayable.
Added the file back into iTunes and suddenly it's perfectly playable on the ATV
So it seems that ATV won't properly play a file that's tagged with a language that's not available in the Audio Languages menu.
Does anyone know of a way of changing this language tag (?) without having to go through the trouble of opening/editing/resaving it in Quicktime?

Apple TV 2 won't play my iTunes purchased movies

Hey gang-
Okay, for the past few days, our Apple TV 2 won't play any of our iTunes Store purchased movies.   Yet at the same time, it works perfectly with Netflix, HBO Go, and Showtime Anytime. The Apple TV is connected via Ethernet to my Airport Time Capsule.   No Wifi involved anywhere.
I have unplugged and repowered the Apple TV and reset it from Settings->General->Retstart.   Also logged out and back into iTunes Store.   Also rebooted modem and router.   No help. I also checked for updates and it says Apple TV is current.
A couple other weird things.   It also won't play iTunes movies stored locally on my iMac, even though Home Sharing is turned on and the Apple TV sees the iMac under Computers.   And yes iTunes is running on my iMac.   The other weird thing...the Apple TV won't remember Screen Saver slideshow photos between sessions.
All in all very weird- especially the fact that all other network features on the Apple TV are working perfectly including Netflix, HBO Go, etc.
What to check next?

I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your Apple TV; I know how frustrating that can be. If you continue to have issues playing purchased content and/or local Home Sharing content, you may want to double-check the Apple ID configuration, as outlined in the following article:
3. Check your Apple ID
Home Sharing requires all computers, iOS devices, and Apple TVs (2nd generation and 3rd generation) to use the same Apple ID.
To verify your intended Apple ID is enabled on all of your devices:
On Apple TV, navigate to Settings > Computers and look in the bottom-left.
On your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad, navigate to Settings > Music or Settings > Videos.
On your computer, open iTunes. Open the File menu and select Home Sharing. If the incorrect Apple ID is listed in iTunes, do the following:
Go to File > Home Sharing and choose Turn Off Home Sharing.
Choose File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing.
When prompted, enter the Apple ID you'd like to use.
Click Turn On Home Sharing, then Done.
A maximum of five computers can use Home Sharing at one time. If this limit has been reached and you want to add a new Home Share, deauthorize one or more computers by choosing Deauthorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes. For more information about authorization and deauthorization, see About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization.

The New Mail sound won't play through SoundSticks

After many many years of using Eudora as my E-mail client, I have finally switched to Apple's Mail. So far, so good, EXCEPT for an inability to have Mail's "New Mail" sound play through my SoundStick USB speakers.
I should mention that I use a "dummy plug" plugged into the front headphone jack of my G5 so that I don't have to listen to the startup bong when I turn the computer on. This has never been a problem because I use SoundSticks for my audio and, since the G5 can't "see" the SoundSticks when you first turn the G5 on, no bong through the SoundSticks either. Once the computer is up and running, all audio comes out of the SoundSticks. This is true of all of the alert sounds my Mac makes too. Even the "Send Mail" sound (swooshing plane) plays through the SoundSticks as it should.
But the sound I have selected for "New Mail" (no matter which sound I select) just won't play through the SoundSticks. If I unplug the dummy plug from the headphone jack I can then hear the "New Mail" sound through the internal speaker. But I don't want to hear it that way (and I don't want to permanently remove the dummy plug either).
Why is it that Mail's "New Mail" sound is the ONLY bit of Audio that I've found that WON'T play through my SoundSticks?

TS1362 Itunes won't play any of my movies.

All my movies used to play fine and transfr to my ipad and play fine. Now they won't even play in Itunes. Say it has encountered an error and needs to close. I have downloaded the latest Itunes twice, but still won't play. Ant suggestions ?
If i uninstall Itunes completely and reinstall, Will I lose all my music , App, and movies.
Also is there no where you ask a simple question like this by e-mail. Everything these days is email except Itunes ???

AC97 Sound won't play

THe program I'm writing includes an audio alert at certain points.
I use java.applet.AudioClip to point to the chimes.wav (the standard windows one) in an application directory and use the play() method to play the wave file, but on certian computers (Averatec 3200 and 3300), the sounds don't play. The wave files can be double-clicked to play, but don't play when called by java. I did some poking around and have reason to beleive that this is because of the RealTek AC97 audio drivers in use the by the averatec machines, but I haven't found a solution or workaround. Anyone have any ideas or information that I'm lacking?

How to play a slideshow (with movies) from Iphoto to Apple TV second gen

Does anyone know how to play a slideshow with movies, that I normally play perfect with Iphoto (I even can add music)to let it stream to the Apple tv second gen?
So I have some movies on Imac from a holiday in Egypt and Iphoto alows me let it play as a movie.
How can I setup my Apple TV so that it is the same on my Apple TV? So with nice fade ins and outs?

Ok Thank you, but I have one more question.
The Iphoto library is loaded with different movies and Photos. They are sorted by date.
Is there a possibily to make folders in Iphoto. So that I have on folder called for example "vacation Egypt" and put all the movies in this folder within Iphoto?
And then when I select this map it will make a slideshow from all this movies with music? Just like in Iphoto?

Movie won't play now - searching for movie data in file "Bounce Acros 01"??

I have a movie I made with iMovie (I have v3 or so). I know for a fact it used to play (it's saved as an MPG-2) on my laptop (10.3.9). All of a sudden, when I try to play it, it says "searching for movie data in file "Bounce Across 01"", or "Rolling Credits 05" for another one I have. These are effects I used for the titles, but what could be the problem? I thought once I save it in QuickTime format, it was self-contained - it looks like it's looking for some iMovie files. Why does it need them, why did they disappear (since I know this used to play fine!), and what can I do to fix it (download those data files, and convert the thing to be truly self-contained and not need any external files)?

I thought once I save it in QuickTime format, it was self-contained - it looks like it's looking for some iMovie files.QuickTime (MOV) files can be saved as either "Standalone" or "Reference" files. When using the "Save As..." option in QT Pro, you are offered the choice. Other applications like iMovie may make the decision for you. For instance, when automatically sending a file from iMovie to iDVD, a reference movie is used rather than standalone version in order to more quickly open iDVD. In your case, it sounds like a reference movie is being played and that someone has "cleaned out" some of the "rendered" files that were saved as part of the original project. If the project files are still available but moved, you can try to "re-link" them. Or, if the project is still available, you could simply re-export your movie as a standalone file.

Background Sound Won't Play

Looking to attach a background sound and play it using
ActionScript. However, it's not working. I'm trying to link it up
to a button called "soundButton" that toggles the audio. I have the
wav file in my library, have exported it for ActionScript, and
given it a linkage ID of "music."
Also, if I trace after a button click, my "soundPlaying"
value is always "false." Any ideas?
