Sound works, but not internet

I've been able to get music to play through my airport extreme, but when I try the internet it's like the ethernet cable isn't plugged into the station. I updated my address information with the broadband service (surewest) and have been working on the DNS settings; but after hours of this I have to admit that I don't have what it takes to get the internet to this laptop on this connection with this hardware..

I believe you mean the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), not the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)...correct? (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107908)

I'm a bit unclear on what type of Internet service SureWest provides--DSL or cable. I did note that they recently changed their DNS servers, which might be the problem you're experiencing with their service. (ref: http://www.surewest.com/dns/)
Was this working before? That is, did you have the AX connected to the modem provided by SureWest and were able to get Internet access, or is this a new set up and are having problems getting it going? In either case, what make/model is the DSL/cable modem that SureWest provided with their service? Also, what is your current network configuration? Is it something like the following:
DSL/Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AX > (wireless) > wireless clients

The 4G iPod TV (video) out only works with apps that support TV out. The Video app is one such app. The iPhone 4S (and later iPhones, the 5G iPod and iPad 2 and later) on the other hand can mirror the iPod's screen for TV out.

Reinstalled Arch, sound works but not when I login

Hey guys I just reinstalled Arch, card has worked fine before (M-Audio Revolution 7.1). It works fine now, too, as I have a little "welcome.wav" file that plays when I reach GDM on boot, and it plays just fine but as soon as I log in I can't get any sound. I am in the audio group:

You need to store the alsa "state" once (alsactl) before using the alsa daemon for this task.
That caused me some confusion recently as well.

Mailbox sound on iMac is not working. All other sound works but not mailbox.

I can play music, hear videos, etc. But there is no sound when checking for new mail or sending out new e-mails.

sound works but when i reboot, before the root i get the error... sound card not found?

check in rc.conf and see if your sound module isn't listed. Odd that it doesn't find your sound card on boot.
U may also need to run alsactl store as root. Permission problem, possibly?
sounds like alsaconfig is finding and loading the module each time u reboot, but its not being loaded because I think u need to run alsactl store as root, since it needs to be loaded by the kernel. That would require root privileges I would think. That's my best guess.

Call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and explain them your issue, it could range from having your router configured incorrectly to having a wiring issue. Personally, I have Comcast and they are great, no issues, and awesome customer service.

ok i just bought a new soundblaster Li've! 24-bit and i got the sound working but my microphone doesnt work... what the hak? im 50% positi've that its in the right jack, and i also disabled onboard sound on my BIOS and in my creative surround mixer application, under the REC section i changed to microphone and i made sure the "Do not monitor" has not been enabled. can you pleaseeee help me? thnx.., o yea more question, the soundblaster Li've! 24-bit uses creative labs EAX regular? not creative labs EAX 2 or 3. thx please answer

Welcome to the forums.
If you have a video that is muxed it is possible in converting it that one or the other tracks (audio or video) will get left behind. You will need to demux it first and then convert it to MPEG4 if this is the case:

Now, this assumes the video was MPEG1 or MPEG2 in the first place. If it started life as an MPEG4 it ought to convert properly -- check it out in iTunes (Ctrl-I) and see what the resolution and maxbit rate are to make sure they don't exceed the iPhone specs. If within the specs you can always try resetting your phone (it never hurts and sometimes helps).

Flash Player works in Safari but not Internet Explorer 9

I've installed Flash Player 10.3 and it works in Safari but not Internet Explorer 9. When I look in Manage Add-Ins I see Flash Shockwave but not Flash Player. My operating system is Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit). Safari is 5.0.5 and IE 9 is 9.0.8112.16421. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Flash Player and uninstalling Norton 360. Nothing has worked so far. Can you help?

The files in flash directory are: a folder called FlashPlayerTrust: file, flash10q.ocx: file, FlashInstall.log; file, FlashUtil10q_ActiveX.dll; file, FlashUtil10q_ActiveX.exe, file, install.log.
There is no file: NPSWF32.dll.
When I test the browsers I get no spinning logo in either Safari or IE9. Safari says: missing plug-in, where I think the logo should be. IE-9 says nothing at the same location.

It sure sounds to me like something on the iPod is broken. If it's under warranty then I would send it back for repair. If not, check out some of the web repair services, such as iPodResQ etc.

How to use time capsule for wireless back-up but not internet?

I have a tower and recently a laptop at work. The tower is connected to our local network with an ethernet cable and the laptop with wireless. So, the internet connection is fine for both.
I was hoping to use my time capsule to do time machine backups on my laptop. Do you have any advice on how to configure this? I do not want to use the time capsule to extend my Internet, as I believe my work I.T. would prefer to handle all access to their network.
Perhaps there is some documentation about doing this that you could point me to? I have not been able to find it.

Your original question was How to use Time Capsule for wireless back-up but not Internet?
There is no reason for you to connect the tower....or anything else...using Ethernet if your goal remains that same as you stated.
If you are asking if you can backup the Tower using Ethernet, and not wireless, then you can connect the tower to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule....not the WAN port.

I just have to select the network that it created. Of course, I have no access to the Internet while this is happening and it can not auto backup, unless I am on that wireless signal.
As I stated, that is the downside to trying to back up without an Internet connection. You have to establish another network...and backup over that network.
If you are asking if you can stay connected to the work network while also backing up to your non-Internet "private" network, that is not possible.
