Sound works on certain videos, but not others.
This is not just a Firefox problem, but I'm having no luck on other forums. When viewing videos on any of my browsers (Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer) for some reason there is no sound for some sites like Youtube or ESPN. But if I go to msn.ca (I only found this out on a fluke) I can watch all of their videos with sound.
Now, please assume I'm not computer illiterate. I've updated my drivers, browsers, flash, uninstalled then reinstalled everything, and done all sorts of other little checks and balances. I've pulled my sound card out, checked to see if it was fried, and put it back in. Properly. I have no freaking clue what is going on, and I'm really close to just wiping my computer.
Please help.
Try some of the steps listed here:

Audio working on some video but not others
I'm having audio issues with a set of videos that had previously been working absolutely fine. I imported them into Premiere Pro (CS6) to do some work on them and ever since then the sound hasn't worked at all. The raw footage will play video but there is no sound. I've tried playing it with through VLC, Adobe Media Player, Quicktime, Windows Media Player and still nothing. I can see the sound bars moving but I can't hear anything. I have this footage saved in three different places (2 external drives and disc) and none of the footage works on either of my computers. The other thing is that previously encoded footage is now not working. I don't understand what is happening because all my other footage is working absolutely fine - footage from the same source, in the same format, with the same codec. If anyone can help it would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.
If the files don't have sound even outside of PP, then chances are they really don't have sound. (Especially if other files do have sound, meaning it's not a system wide issue or a bad audio driver.)

Sound working on some programs but not others (Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC)
The sound is working for some programs (iTunes) on my laptop, but will not work with Chrome, Internet Explorer or BBC iPlayer Downloads.
I'm at a loss to explain why. When I open up the Sound settings on the laptop, I can see that iTunes output plays on the 'Speakers and Dual Headphones' device, which is what I believe all my sound would usually come out from. I can hear it as usual.
However, when I play audio in Chrome, no sound comes out, but it appears the device 'SPDIF (Digital Out via HP Dock)' is now playing the sound instead. The sound bar for this moves up and down while something is playing, but I cannot hear anything at all.
It is as if my internet programs have been configured to have sound output through a device that does not actually exist. I tried fiddling around with Sound settings and 'Disabled' the SPDIF device, but nothing has actually changed. I would like to hook my internet audio back up to the 'Speakers and Dual Headphones' option but cannot work out how to.
Sorry if this is not very well-explained, but I have never dealt with this problem before.
Thank you so much if you're able to help - this is very frustrating!
Edit: I also recently used a new HDMI cable to hook my laptop up to our TV and think this could be something to do with itHi PacificBay,

I've been given the unenviable task of troubleshooting and installing/distributing software written by a former co-worker. I've modified the LabVIEW code and built an .exe file. I've successfully installed the Labview .exe file on several computers, but it won't work on some others. What's more baffling is that I installed it successfully on one computer, uninstalled it, and tried reinstalling it with no success. In fact, it's a new error (Dr. Watson for Windows NT application error). It doesn't help that I have different versions of LabVIEW and Matlab on the target computers. Some have LabVIEW 5.1, some
have 5.0, and some don't have it at all. Some have Matlab 5.2, some have 5.3 (R11) and some have 6.0 (R12). It's also not clear to me where the Matlab m files should be located. I'm not sure if it's a LabVIEW Runtime Engine problem, or if it's a Matlab problem. I've also wondered how LabVIEW and Matlab talk to each other. When LabVIEW calls Matlab, it seems that Matlab is running in the background. In other words, clicking on the Matlab Command Window and typing "whos" or any other command/variable doesn't work.Jay del Rosario wrote:

Adobe Flash 10.1 works on admin login but not other logins
Latest Adobe Flash 10.1 (7/25/10) works on admin login but not other logins despite being installed "for all users". No change from 32-bit to 64-bit Internet Explorer 8 running under Windows 7. Repeated uninstalls/reinstalls/reboots has no effect. Using online uninstaller also has no effect. User Account Control is OFF. Interestingly enough, the same situation occurs on another computer with the same environment except running Vista. Any thoughts would be helpful to [email protected] Thank you!

IPhoto downloads some pix & video but not others in the same format
For the past two weeks iPhoto is giving me error messages on some of the photos and videos I try to import from my SD card. I never had this problem before but it will import some of the photos and MPEG-4 videos but at the end, it lists all the ones it can't import.
For the photos it lists them all as below with the message that they are unreadable files. Then it says "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data.)
/Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73614.JPG
/Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73615.JPG
/Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73616.MP4
/Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73617.JPG
As you can see they all have valid file type extensions. It's particular odd because I downloaded a very short video clip I shot with no problem but did not download the one I shot just seconds before because "this is not a movie file."
Curiously I was able to download the pix and videos on my work Windows computer. But I had to email them to myself in order to be able to get them into an iPhoto album.
Once I get these latest ones off the SD card I will reformat it. I assume the problem is with the card, right?Jane:
Once you get the files off the memory card use the camera to reformat the card before using again. Other users have reported similar issues and a reformat in the camera solved their issue.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete. -
ITunes will play some videos, but not others?
Hello,
I use my MacBook Pro at home with Apple TV to home share videos and music. I have also recently upgraded to mavericks.
When I play videos on my tv at home they work fine, but I am traveling and now videos will not play. They just show 0:00 with a pause button instead of a play button. Some videos do work, but only a handful.
Would this be due to the mavericks upgrade? Should I re-install iTunes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!Hi gta,
Ok.. let's try this. Launch Disk Utility, it's in your Applications/Utilities folder. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit Disk Utility when it's finished.
Get Onyx. It's a free disk utility. Run the Maintenance and Cleaning Scripts once a week. It's available here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
If none of the above works, delete these files:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.NetworkDiagnostics.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist
Note -- the com.apple.network.Config.plist is not located in your home folder --
Drag those files to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. You will have to reset your network preferences.

Citrix XenApp 7.6 & VDI Plugin works for some users but not others
I have a customer with XenApp 7.6 and Lync 2013 SE. They have two users homed to the same pool, both with the same VDI client policy however on one account the VDI pairing works fine over Citrix XenApp, but the other the pairing fails. On both accounts I
get prompted for the credentials, however the second account will not authenticate. I have tried domain\username, domain.local\username and [email protected] but all fail then I get the red cross through the VDI icon.
This is all from the same Windows 7 machine, all user accounts are within the same AD domain.
If anyone has seen similar before any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am banging my head against the wall!

Flash works in some places, but not others....
It seems my problem has changed from what I origonally thought it was. I thought my flash player didn't work at all. Mainly because I typically use it for one thing, and that one thing wasn't working (photobucket). After trying to uninstall flash, reinstall it and getting the "getPlus+(R) installation corrupt error", I did some more reading and research.
I followed this link - www.adobe.com/software/flash/about - and it says I have ver. 10,0,32,18 installed. So that is good, it's installed but it still doesn't work everywhere.
I've tried youtube and it works just fine.
The problems I am mainly having is with Photobucket. When I go to my own Photobucket acct. and play a video from my acct. it works but it is painfully slow to load. I might wait up to 2-3 minutes for one of my own videos to load so that I can watch it. This never took more than 10-20 seconds to load before.
Now when I follow a link posted on a forum that is a video link from another persons Photobucket acct. is where the real problem is. It won't play at all. The player loads, but the screen freezes with the first image of the video. The taskbar shows it is still loading, but it never loads. After a few minutes the taskbar shows 'done', but nothing has changed. The video is still frozen at the beginning and it shows me a pause button in the bottom left, like it is playing....but of course it is not.
Also, more often than not, while the video is trying to load the web browser will be "not responding", the computer freezes, and I have to end all tasks and restart the browser. This is really driving me crazy....
I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1. I used to use IE7. I have now switched to Firefox 3.5, and there is no difference between the two web browsers as far as this problem is concerned.
TIA for any help with this.
ChrisWell, I think there are some big clues here that tell you where you should be pointing.. I haven't read any of your other posts though, so I may be missing something...
" used to use IE7. I have now switched to Firefox 3.5, and there is no difference between the two web browsers as far as this problem is concerned."
"I've tried youtube and it works just fine."
"When I go to my own Photobucket acct. and play a video from my acct. it works but it is painfully slow to load"
Here's what that says to me... you do not have a problem. Flash Player is installed and running. It's Photobucket that has the problem, and that problem lies in their code and/or their network. In this scenario there is virtually nothing we can do for your from the Adobe side of the equation. The fact that both the Flash Player activeX control in IE AND the Flash Player plugin behave the same way indicates to me that this is something Photobucket needs to look into.
So, what can you do?
1. Gather a bit more info. Get a list of similar sites that work fine (Flicker, for example, would be good becuase it's similar)
2. Uninstall Flash Player 10 and get an old Flash Player 9 install from the Archived Players technote:
"Archived Flash Players available for testing purposes" http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
(This assumes that Photobucket doesn't require Flash Player 10. If they do this step won't work. But if they do not require Flash Player 10, then testing with Flash Player 9 can help tell them if the problem was introduced by changes made to Flash Player 10 that they need to code for specifically)
3. Open a support case with Photobucket
Now, is it entirely impossible that there could be some Flash Player issue here? No, it's not. But it's the kind of issue that Photobucket would have to find, then they work with us directly to address it. Nearly impossible to do from the end user point of view because you have no insight into what their code is doing. -
Flash works on some websites but not others
I have been struggling with some Flash player issues for a
while. Most of these were, I believe, due to a spyware infection
that I have since resolved. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall
the player plugin several times. I have gotten to the point where
the Flash player plugin works for nearly every website I can find,
in Firefox and in IE7. The only thing that does not work is when I
go to ESPN.com while using my university wireless network
connection -- certain Flash-related aspects of this page show error
messages or do not show at all. After having visited this site,
even when I use my laptop computer on a different wireless network
connection, this site is always corrupted in this fashion. When I
uninstall the Flash player plugin and reinstall it, these aspects
of ESPN's website function properly, but only when I am not using
my university connection.
All other websites seem to be fine, but ESPN is a site I
visit a lot and I'm at a loss as to what to do. I have never had a
problem installing the player, and I use WIndows XP Home so I have
not used the SubinACL program to fix my Windows system registry.
I've read and tried most of the other solutions in this forum and
they do not seem to solve my specific problem. Any help anyone
could give would be appreciated. It seems to be accessible, yes. It's listed as
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.9\CLSID. I can give
you the data string if you like. I've really never edited my system
registry so I'm not sure what I'm doing. -
Static during a certain album but not others?
My iPod Touch 4th generation, with the latest update available, has static when I play a certain album. I've played other albums and just random songs not from that album and it works just fine, but when I play that certain album it has static. I got the album yesterday via a CD, I had purchased that day and brought it home and put it directly in the computer. I have played it on my computer and it works just fine.
I did, its still staticy on that one album.

Flash working on some computers - but not others
Good afternoon,
We had a third party flash developer build out the flash
navigation and masthead videos for a client's web site and although
it works fine on my computer (and on the developer's computer), it
does not work on any of the client's computers or my partner's
computers.
Here is the web site in question:
www.quigleysimpson.com/index2.html
According to the client and to my partner, the video cuts out
after a second or two, and some of the navigation links are coming
up 'not found' (e.g. the Multi-Cultural link in the top
navigation).
Upgrading to the latest version of Flash Player was the first
thing we did, and the problem still exists. I can't for the life of
me figure out why.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Cheers,
CynthiaI understand that neither method did the repairs you are seeking. My post was a side-note information update for you and others who read these posts, that we haven't had to boot from the install DVD to do a Permissions Repair since Tiger (I think)or maybe even Panther (doesn't matter when the requirement was dropped anyway), and that you can actually set some permissions wrong by using the boot DVD because of changes in the OS since it was installed.
For your problem I recommend creating a new temporary Admin user account and seeing if the problem continues in the new account. If it does, then the problem is in the OS, which can be re-installed over the top of your existing installation (without affecting your files in your user accounts). If the problem goes away, then it could be incompatible or corrupted preference files or other incompatible programs in the user account causing the problems. Right now you haven't isolated the problem to either possibility. -
Sound work on the ipad but not the apps
My son was using the Youplayer and the sound was working, then all of a sudden the sound stopped working and the sound adjustment bar disappeared
I don't know what the Youplayer is but I assume its an app, quit the app completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
