Sound works on front ports, not on back PM8M-V

Hello,
I just installed a motherboard for a family member of my girlfriend's, and she's having a strange problem.  The sound ports on the front of the case wired up to the audio headers on the board work fine, but she said none of the rear audio ports are working correctly.  I know the drivers are recent, I had just installed them straight off the website, didn't bother with the CD.  She lives way out there, so I'd be more willing to send her a quick e-mail with a quick how to on what to do.  Anybody have any ideas?
P.S.  I've had her try playing music and plugging speakers into every outlet in the back to no avail.

Removed the front panel sound jumpers and check if the sound comes out from the rear jacks.

  • Firewire only works in front port not the rear

Hi hope you can help. My system was working fine but now when I connect my m-audio keyboard via the rear firewire port it does not detect anything. If I unplug and attach the firewire to the front port it works.

Disconnect all other firewire devices and try again.
Does the rear firewire port work with other firewire devices?
If not, then it's a dead port most likely and a warranty/AppleCare call.
Sometimes iSight messes with things by drawing too much power.
Have you tried a Firewire hub with the M-audio? A different cable?
Sometimes the plug/port wears out from too many disconnects, a hub is better as it can be replaced.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

Wi-fi not working says air port not configured, help]

Life is getting more complicated to do support..
You need to tell us what version airport.. extreme or express and the model number. A1xxx from the label.
You need to tell us OS.. if the profile which says 10.6.8 is wrong.. as that is confusing.
The new AC version Extreme needs 6.3 version airport utility which is only available for Lion or mountain Lion.
You might also need to turn on ipv6 local-link to get it to show in the utility.

  • USB Headset Works in One Port, Not the Other

When I got my headset (Logitech) it worked perfectly just after plugging it in and using it. It worked while plugged in to either of my USB ports on my laptop. Recently however, it has not worked at all while plugged in to the port on the left, while it still does work when plugged in to the port on the right.
If I open iTunes while plugged in to the non-working left port and make sure to change my system prefs so that the input and output use the Logtech USB Headset, then I hear no sound of any kind. If I then simply plug the USB headset into the other side of the computer without changing any settings, it works fine. This is new behavior as it used to work in both ports.
Another thing to note is that the volume control buttons on the headset still work even when plugged into the USB port that doesn't play sound. Also, I successfully plug in my printer, mouse and other devices to both ports and they all work fine.
I've tried repairing permissions, repairing preferences, and restarting, but nothing has helped so far.
Any ideas on why this would happen with any device?

Which operating system are you running? I have similar problems in a configuration with and iMac and a Macbook, but haven't tried to switch the system around. see this thread:

My problem arose when upgrading the iMac to run OS 10.5.8.
I'll try this tomorrow and see if my problem is similar to yours by swopping the system around

  • FXO port not going back onhook when call goes to CUC Voice mail.

    HI All,
Quiet new to the voice world and have just set up a home lab and have run into the following problem.
When a call comes in from the PSTN and gets transferred to voicemail CUC, when the caller has left the message and hung up the FXO port on my Cisco 3825 does not go back on hook
If a call comes in from the PSTN and is answered on a phone registered to the CUCM and the internal user hangs up the FXO port goes back on hook but if the caller hangs up the FXO port does not go back on hook.
    I am using H.323 between the 3825 & CUCM
    PSTN ------->Voice Gateway 3825-------->CUCM-------->CUC
Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening?
    Thanks

    Hi Shaun,
The router DSP port is not able to detect the disconnect tone sent by provider that is why FXO port is remaining off hook. When call is answered by IP phone then IP phone user can listen the disconnect tone when PSTN caller disconnectes the call and they will hang up the call so gateway is aware that call is disconnected and moves the port to ON hook state but CUE cannot understand the tone so it keeps the call active. To resolve the issue we ave to configure custom CPTONE. Kindly collect PCM capture for a test call. Disable capture after call is disconnected by PSTN caller. i have attached the document. Use the method according to your IOS version.
Using PCM capture we can findout the exact frequency and cadence of the disconnect tone sent by provider.

  • UTube video sound works on iPhone5S but not on Macbook Pro?

UTube videos from a variety of sources works on iPhone5S but not on Macbook Pro? Thinking it has to do with recommended Flash settings on the MAC. Is there an app to resolve this inoperability on a MAC without having to make Flash active?

What format is the video? Is it .wmv? Do the DVD's have any type of protection or encryption? This information will help in finding a solution.

  • Audio not working.  USB ports not working.

My display worked perfectly for a few months.  It started when the audio stopped working.  The option to use the display audio disappeared from the settings.  I made due.  Then the monitor started not waking up when I would hit keys on my wireless keyboard.  I had to open my macbook pro first, wake it, then the monitor would turn on...then I could shut my macbook.  Now the USB ports are not working.  This is very frustrating as I have searched the forums..tried everything there and have had zero success.  Should I just return this to the store?  Please advise.  I am tired of dealing with this as the features that are not working are the REASON that I shelled out a grand for this monitor.

As much as I loved the display itself and design of the Thunderbolt (problems asside), I did take mine back to Apple. It was not just the one issue but several which all added up. Having said that I wouldn't give up on it as I'm now missing it compared to my 17" screen on the MacBook Pro which suddenly appears to be puny in size.
Towards the latter part of owning the TB Display, I had a temporary work around which was to utilise the three USB ports on the MacBook which I experienced as being problem free; therefore I plugged a USB Hub into one of the MacBook Pro's USB ports effectively giving me several to use for lesser equipment, then the remaining two USB's on the MacBook Pro I used for more critical higher bandwidth devices like the Bose Companion 5. Then less critical devices OR devices that don't seem to have any problems with the TB Display - I then plugged into the back of the Thundebolt Display. I know you shouldn't have to do this but for the time it seems to help.
Also with regard to another problem I had with sound, see my other post (link below - 5th post down) where I was able to avoid another problem for the time up until I took it back, but this might not have been a permanent solution and I am no longer able to tell for sure.

  • Sound works with headphones but not with computer speakers

I've got an iPhone 3GS and an iPad. A few weeks ago I setup an older pair of computer speakers in my living room and I've been using that as a bookshelf stereo. I just plug in whatever device happens to be around, the phone or iPad to drive the music.
Tonight though, the iPhone will not output any sound to the computer speakers. It will play music through the external speakers without any issue - same for the iPod headphones. Originally I chalked this up to an issue with my speakers, but when I hook the ipad up to them, I get sound.
Any ideas as to what this could be? The phone worked fine until tonight and I've tried to restart the phone and turn it off.

    Hey polofson,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Siri in relation to your microphone. On the iPhone 5, Siri utilizes both the mic in the receiver opening and the mic near the rear camera. You may want to make sure these are not blocked (commonly by third-party cases):
    iOS: Troubleshooting Siri
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4079
Ensure that Siri can clearly hear you
If Siri is unable to clearly understand what you are saying, make sure your microphones are not blocked.
    iPhone 4s
Verify that the bottom microphone, located to the left of the dock connector, is not blocked.
    iPhone 5
Verify that both the mic in the receiver opening and the mic near the rear camera are not blocked.
    iPod touch (5th generation)
Verify that the mic near the rear camera is not blocked.
    iPad (3rd generation)
Verify that the mic at the top center, above the FaceTime camera, is not blocked.
    All models
    - If you are using a protective case, try removing it.
    - Try turning your device off and then on again.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Sound works on Spotify but not in browsers?

I am able to listen to music in Spotify, but when I open up a browser to watch a YouTube video or Netflix (also on Tumblr, I cannot watch videos either) no sound comes out but Spotify works fine. It's odd, this has never happened before.

    Hi @haileytoole ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a great  place to find answers and tips.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you do not have an issue listening to music in Spotify but when you open a browser to watch a YouTube  video or Netflix or Tunblr you are unable to watch video and it does not have audio.
They have their own settings for the audio, have you  checked to see if they are muted.  Is there a little X showing by the volume button on the screen?
I have taken this excerp from Windows.microsoft.com
Many websites use add-ons such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, or QuickTime to play video or audio files. Instead of using add-ons Internet Explorer streams media content using HTML5 and Adobe Flash on compatible sites. If video won't play, try opening the site using Internet Explorer for the desktop.
To Open a site in the desktop
On the Start screen, tap or click Internet Explorer to open Internet Explorer.
Swipe down from the top (or right-click) to bring up the app commands in Internet Explorer.
Tap or click the Page tools button , and then tap or click View in the desktop.
You still might need to install an add-on. Most websites will let you know which add-on is required to let you play media content.
Is you Adobe Flash player up to date?
Have you done all your Windows updates?
Have you ran the Windows troubleshooter?
Have you ran the  HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates?
Have you tried using a different browser?
Here is a YouTube Video that may help although it is for a green screen, uncheck the hardware acceleration as it suggests.
