Sound works video doesn't on windows vista

I have Windows Vista and the sound works and the video doesn't. It says additional software is needed. I went to Movie Inspector and the info is a XVID file.

Scroll down to -I work on Windows and want to use Xvid in QuickTime. Unless somethings changed with them or someone has further info, it appears Xvid in QuickTime for Windows isn't going to work well

  • HDMI connection to Samsung TV - sound works, video doesn't.

I'm using an HDMI cable and the Moshi adaptor to connect my Macbook Pro (2010) to my Samsung TV. The audio works great but I am not getting video. This seems to be the opposite of what others are experiencing. How can I get the video to work, too? All suggestions much appreciated.

What you have is an extended desktop, which means that what you see on the external display is a continuation of the Macbook's display.  You will find that if you move the mouse off the edge of your laptop's screen it will appear on your Samsung TV's screen.  You can also drag windows from one to the other.
At the moment the Macbook's display is the primary display and the TV screen is the secondary display.  You can change this round in System Preferences -> Displays.  When the TV is connected you will see an additional tab - 'Displays' - within which you will see an image of two screens.  The smaller of the two screens in the image has a small bar at the top.  This bar represents the menu bar on the primary display.  Drag this small bar to the top of the larger of the two screens in the image.  This makes the external display, in this case your Samsung TV, the primary display and the menu bar and dock will appear there.  The Macbooks screen then becomes an extension of the TV screen.
You can set both displays to show the same screen by turning mirroring on.  The disadvantage of this is that the TV be at the resolution of the MacBook's screen and you won't be taking full advantage of the native resolution of the Samsung TV - which is probably 1920x1080, otherwise called 1080p.
Kenneth E's suggestion above, to close the lid puts the laptop in what is known as 'clamshell mode'.  This is a valid operating mode but relies on you having an external keyboard and mouse.  Closing the lid puts the MacBook to sleep and you will need to click the mouse or tap a key to wake it up in clamshell mode for the display to appear on the external screen.
So, to sum up, you are in fact getting video (extended desktop) and you're getting sound.  Everything's working as it should.  Hope my explanation clarifies what's going on for you.

  • No sound on Satellite Pro A120 with Windows Vista

    Hi
I have had to reinstall my Vista operating system and rebuild my A120 Satellite Pro from the revovery disk.
Most things are fine but I cant get any sound from the speakers of headphine jack.
I have checked andit says that the Realtek High Definition Sound Driver is installed and working correctly.
My volume buttons are up high on the mixer and on Windows Media Player.
    The driver is Realtek 6.0.1.5317
    Help would be much appreciatesd

Nothing through the speakers, nothing via the headphone socket. Volume bar goes up and down with the music as it should do when you play an audio file. Tried the Windows Vista built in driver, the Realtek ones from the Toshiba site.
Last thing to try is rebuilding to the XP support disk, making sure the volume is right at the tip and unmuted, and try reinstalling Vista again, which is tonight's job, but I'm not feeling hopeful about it. Like I said before the toshiba unmute tool didn't do anything for me.

  • HT203687 iCloud is now no longer working with Outlook running on Windows Vista. Is this still unresolved?

iCloud is no longer working with my Outlook 2007 running on Windows Vista.  Is there any resolution from Apple?

    Hi,
Please check whether the issue happens when using the Outlook 2010 with Windows server 2003 SP2 to access other mailboxes, such as new created Exchange 2013 mailbox or other migration mailbox.
Since the issue doesn’t occur when using Outlook in other machine, the mailbox configuration in Exchange server side should be correct. Please
    create a new Outlook profile
for the problematic user in Windows server 2003 with Outlook 2010 to have a try.

  • How can I get MagicTrackpad to work with Boot Camp and Windows Vista?

Just installed Lion and then installed Magic Trackpad. Now I need to know how to get the Magic Tackpad to work with Windows Vista in my Boot Camp partition. Windows Bluetooth recognizes the Magic Trackpad but it says the device won't confirm the passkey. No passkey came with the Magic Trackpad and the option to not use a passkey still doesn't achieve connection with Windows. Suggestions/ comments, please.
    TIA,
    Picman

    UPDATE
Just completed several lengthy sessions with Apple Tech Support (escalated to excellent Sr. Advisor). Bottom line is that there seems to be no answer to the problem of the Magic Trackpad not being able to maintain its pairing/connection with Windows (Vista in my case) or OS X (10.7 in my case) when switching Boot Camp partitions. In fact, when trying to re-pair it is necessary to remove the MTP batteries first. To pair at all with Windows requires the use of the Bluetooth passkey "0000" (not provided in MTP documentation). This achieves limited MTP/Windows functionality (cursor and "click" control only - with BC 3.1. BC 3.2 is supposed to provide more gestures, but I have not gotten there yet). Appears that when switching back to OS X, that passkey has remained with the MTP and is not what OS X is looking for, so it fails the connection. Removing/replacing the batteries probably dumps the passkey and allows the OS X connection. The Sr. Advisor says he sees this issue often (including with Windows 7) in their internal chat rooms, but no solution. He will be referring it to the engineers and will let me know the outcome. Meantime, assuming I keep the MTP, I'll have to resign myself to using a wired mouse when going to Windows (not a huge inconvenience, since it's only for Quicken; but the issue is worse than "in-elegant" for Apple!
I am satisfied that I have obtained the best possible help from Apple on this issue. If anybody has more, please reply.
    Thanks,

  • Sound works for all programs in Windows 7 (64-bit) except iTunes (64-bit) which stopped working after months of working fine.

Sound works fine for all programs on Windows 7 (64-bit) except recently 64-bit iTunes just stopped working.  I believe the sound stopped right after downloading the 10.5.1.42 version of iTunes.

    Sir,
I had the same problem with itunes 10.5 with creative labs sound card.  The only way I could solve it was to use the built in sound on my video card.  But needless to say I have a very high end video card, I have the NVIDIA GTX 580.  And after I used the sound on my video card everything worked great.

  • My HP Photosmart 385 printer won't work with my operating system - Windows Vista Ultimate. Why not?

Is there a driver that I can dowload so my HP Photosmart 385 printer will work with my Windows Vista Ultimate operating system?

    Hey Alyssa426,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Since the installation disk does not support Windows 8.1, I would suggest trying to download, and install the drivers directly from the HP Support website. I have included a link to the 'HP Deskjet F4200/F4224 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver'. Once the software is downloaded, open the software, and follow through the on screen instructions for installation.
Please let me know the outcome of installing the software.
    Thank you.

  • No sound or video in Finder Preview window anymore

    Hello everybody,
My hard drive recently crashed and I had to get a replacement drive, reinstall OSX, and migrate my backup clone back to the hard drive with SuperDuper. Everything is running fine, except for some reason I can't hear any sound, or see any video when previewing movies or mp3s in preview. The time marker moves to the right, but there is no sound or video. Sound works in itunes and in Quick time, but not in the preview?Volume is up all the way. I tried some sort of suggested adjustment in the Audio Midi utilities screen to no avail. Any suggestions

Ok, i figured out what the problem was. For some reason I had to install Flip4Mac to make the previews work again. Hope this helps everyone else.

  • Audio Works, Video Doesn't

I'm trying to set up an audio/video "teleconference" chat with a teacher and students for tomorrow, 10/14/05. I'm using a Mac G4 Dual 1gHz and an iSight camera. He's using a PowerBook, also with an iSight. We're both running OS 10.4.2.
When either of us tries to invite the other to a VIDEO chat, we get a prompt that says the video cannot be acquired and the video in the invitation window freezes--even though the video shows as active in our Preview windows.
We have no trouble inviting each other to AUDIO chats.
I also tried using my own Powerbook G4 with the iSight, and the same problem occurred.
It seems this wouldn't be a firewall problem or the audio wouldn't work.
Any suggestions on where to start on trying to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    BILL

    HI,
I have rebooted in to Panther and attempted to Video chat with Marcello.
WE initially got a message like this
    2005-03-08 18:34:32 +0000: xxx did not respond.
Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports:
    136.xxx.xxx.xxx:10403 192.168.xxx.xxx:5060 10.xxx.xxx.xxx:5060
Tis was solved by turning the Belkin off even though it was not wired to his modem.
Subsequent testing suggest he has a NAT problem.
His ISP canme to his home to set the modem up (which is Unbranded) so he has no access to it.
It is unclear at this stage if the modem is doing NAT and the IPS is also doing it further up the line.
Where he lives only has one provider and it may be a block due to the ISP/telephon co wanting to make money on Interentional calls.
He is going to try and find out this information and chack his service agreement to see if such a block was prestated.

  • Can the Zen 4gb work on Macbook running Bootcamp Windows Vist

With the falling Macbook prices from Apple, I am considering getting one within the next few month. I know that officially the Creative Zen 4gb would not work nati'vely on the Macbook however I am planning to install Windows Vista via Bootcamp and was wondering if I would face any problem syncing the Zen 4gb under Windows Vista on the Macbook hardware ?
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem trying to install Win7 x64 on my 2009 iMac. I finally copied the entire Boot Camp driver folder from the OS X installation DVD to Windows. Then I went to \drivers\bootcamp64.msi, right-clicked on it and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility. Windows chugged a bit and came up with a dialog that said Try Recommended Settings. Click on that, then Start Program. The Boot Camp installer now worked great.
    Give it a shot.

  • CS2 Premium not working after re installing on Windows Vista

I reformatted my computer and re installed CS2 Premium in a new laptop with Windows Vista; however, when trying to open one of the applications such as Photoshop it says "user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid." Adobe does not offer tech support for CS2 anymore so my only hope is your expert information. Thank you.

I got the same problem with my CS2. I recently bought a new computer which is windows vista 64 bit, and I tried to install my old CS2 on it and every program gave me that error message when I tried to run them. I called customer support, and the answer is the same, they dont support CS2 anymore and they expect you to buy their CS4. I mean I spent $$$ on it 2 years ago and you tell me to spend another $$$ to buy it again? This is purely insane.

  • "Customized Icon and Label has stopped working" message on startup in Windows Vista after latest iTunes upgrade

I upgraded to the latest iTunes as part of the process for upgrading my iPhone to iOS6.
Now I get a message window with the above message when I start Windows Vista.
Besides the nominal inconvenience of clicking to close the popup window, is this a problem?

  • Sound on Video doesn't work - sounds like data.

I have the IPOD video 60GB. I have never been able to get the sound on my videos to work. The music works perfectly fine. The video and sound play fine in my Itunes, but the sound comes out like data on the ipod iteself. The video picture plays fine on the ipod. I am very frustrated with it at the moment because no one seems to be able to figure out the problem. Anyone have any advice and/or has anyone else had this problem?

The picture from the video looks fine. The video and sound play fine on my computer in I Tunes. When I transfer the video to the Ipod, the Video plays, but the sound doesn't work properly. It comes out sounding sounding kind of like data on a dial-up connection. The techie guy at Best Buy totally cleaned it off, used their computer to reload and update I-Tunes put a different video on it and had the same result. The best I can tell, there truly is a hardware problem with my ipod since we've been able to recreate the problem on spearate machines with different videos after completely wiping the ipod. I just wish the tech support desk would figure that out.
