SoundBlaster Live! problem with mixer..

Ok this is what happens. WHen I click on the Creative Surround Mixer, a window pops up and says "there is no mixer detected in the system. mixer will now exit." Now if I restart the computer, it works again, but only for like -2 hours. Before, I would reinstall the whole hing with the DrvUniPack and it would fix the problem for 5-6 months. Now it doesnt matter, same thing happens. Any suggestions?
I have a Windows XP Home.
AMD Athlon .8ghz.
ATI Radeon 9000

ty in advance. It really is getting annoying having to restart every time I want to change settings or somehting.

Uninstall everything and reinstall using this CD instead.

Word 2007 mail merge : problem with mixed portrait and landscape orientations

I have a 3 pages document Word 2007 file
This is a mail merge I want to export in PDF using Adobe Acrobat Printer,
then send "big" PDF to printing.
page 1 is PORTRAIT
page 2 is PORTRAIT
page 3 is LANDSCAPE
In PDF pages 1 and 2 are perfectly fine, inside an A4 format (width=210 height=297mm or something)
but for page 3, system changed to a "double" sized page (A3 width=297 height=420) and printed my stuff at the 1st top middle of big page.
So I have a big "double" sheet, oriented PORTRAIT, with my stuff in 1st half, and a blank in 2nd half.
It seems that system did not rotate the page... and just put the stuff into a bigger sheet to "solve" at best.
I would like the same size of paper (A4) but in landscape : width=297 height=210
I have already seen many PDF with mixed portrait and landscape orientations, so what's the thing ?

Some questions:
Which version of office were you using before? 2003?
Are the data files on a network, or on your local machine? If they are on a network, can you make a copy of one of them on your local machine and try again?
Can you open the files directly in Excel? What extension do they have (.xls, or something else?) I am wondering whether access to other file types has been left blocked on your machine but is allowed on your colleague's machine.
Are you just opening the mail merge main document and seeing this message? If so, do you see the same thing if you start with a new document and try to connect to one of these data sources?
Can you confirm that the message is about Access even though you are trying to connect to an Excel file?
(Also, office 2007 has some new stuff - that let's you specify that certain folders are "trusted" . I don't think that ever affected MailMerge but it may be as well to make sure that your documents and data sources are in trusted locations).
Also worth trying to start Word in "Safe mode" - see, e.g. http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word-help/work-with-office-safe-modes-HP010140792.aspx

10.6.8 Causes New Problem with Mixed Graphics Hardware Environment - Suggestions?

Hi. After installing the latest Mac OS update (10.6.8), I can no longer boot my 5,1 Mac Pro into its Mac OS partition. An undefined display (and graphics card) now seems to be used as default, rather than the supported display/hardware, so I cannot interact with the user interface. I simply have an inoperable blue screen on the correct display. I have 2 graphics cards in my Mac Pro: a supported GT120 (solely for the purpose of booting/using Mac OS), and an unsupported HD6970 (used extensively for Windows 7 3D gaming, in Slot 1). Until this latest OS release, I could successfully boot and use my computer in both Mac OS and Windows environments. I encountered other problems because of this mixed graphics environment, like an inability to put the system to sleep without having the Mac Pro PCI fan unnecessarily ramp up to full speed after waking - but it would always work correctly when first booted. (I have contacted Apple Support about this sleep issue, but they do not support my configuration.) Does any boot command exist to force the use of the supported graphics card? Or, do kext files exist to enable the Mac OS to at least recognize (not use) the 6970 card? With the 6970 removed, I have no problems booting the Mac OS, but I do NOT want to remove my hardware card every time I want to shift to the Mac OS. Do anyone have any suggestions?

First, I cannot swap graphic cards in PCI slots, because the 6970 only operates correctly in slot 1 (the high-speed graphics slot). I may have to revert to the prior OS release, but what about next month, with Lion?
I am familiar with Netkas.org (I will probably try it or Groths.org next, thanks). One of my previous graphics cards was a flashed 4970. I do not have access to the prelease Lion kext files that he suggests using. Full flash support does not appear to yet exist for the 6970, much less the HD 6990 or GTX 590 that it appears I may need next.
Ideally, the Mac Pro firmware should ignore any attempted bus communication with an unrecognized PCI card. Currently, it appears that the unsupported 6970 can cause boot or run-time problems (I also have occasional freezes during Mac OS hardware interaction like writing a file to disk). Note that I have never had any problems arising from my unsupported Windows 5.1 PCI sound card, however.

Soundblaster live! with no so

I bought a new computer. With all the settings and programs in place i am quite excited to hands on for the blast. But it's quiet, in fact, too silent to hear my neighbor's snore. My soundcard is a Soundblaster Li've! 24-bit on an SB Inspire 5200 speakers. I don't know what went wrong. I ran every test, there were no conflicts on hardwares, and the speaker wirings has been checked for possible faulty connections. The video's running smoothly and the on-board audio has been disabled. So i guess i need help right now! My neighbor is getting louder, and i really need to blast him off his bed!!

Have you try turning on the Mic +20dB boost? Open the Surround Mixer application and locate the Mic volume slider. Click on the little red cross icon at the top of the mic slider.

Problem with mixed CDs

Most of my CDs have the tracks mixed so there is no break in between songs. I would like to be able to convert these CDs into a single track to keep the flow of the music. Is this possible with iTunes, and if not can someone direct to a program it is possible with?

Is soundblaster live compatible with DirectX 9

All the new games are running with directx 9.0c now. Does my Soundblaster Li've card support this and if not is there a driver / firmware download available to fix it's

Elements doesn't support true HDR because the program is not able to. I use picturenaut which is a freebie. I convert my 3 exposures in elements from RAW to TIFF in a special folder. I open the 3 photos in Picturenaut which merges my photos in true HDR. Tonemapping can be done in Picturenaut or Elements I do this in quick edit. Good luck Chuck

Thank you for replying. I had no idea I had a response. It is a Windows 7 Home Premium. The game is actually now a few different ones for my child, Baby Luv, Brave & Disney Princesses. None of them will work. I have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 graphics card in this (Compaq Presario All-In-One Desktop PC) and I just posted another question in the forum about wanting to know if I can replace the grahics card with a HD card and if so how? I have looked online but can't find an answer. Is it possible to replace the card or with it being an all-in-one is it not possible? Thank you.

Solving iDVD problems with mixed aspect ratio input.

I have been trying to create a DVD with a compilation of slideshows. The slideshows are of mixed vintage and were created with various software. The older shows are 640 x 480 and 720 x 480 and the latest were created for my Apple TV with 1240 x 720.
During the creation of the DVD, the test runs looked fine, but when the DVD was played the 4:3 AR shows were stretched to full screen. I tried making the DVD in 4:3 ratio and in widescreen. The TV is widescreen.
I searched the forums and even e-mailed David Pogue (no reply) after reading his iDVD book. My solutions came from this forum and I would like to thank the contributors. I cannot name them because I cannot reproduce the same query and the clues I found, were not always a direct response to the topic.
The results I hoped for, were to have the 4: 3 ratio slideshows play in a widescreen window with black bars on the side. The two solutions I found from the forum were as follows:
1. Using iDVD, Add the 4:3 aspect ratio slideshow into iDVD as a slideshow and not as a movie. This uses the slideshow formatting to add the black bars. It appears it is OK to add video instead of slides. The 16:9 slideshows were added as normal movies and the DVD worked as expected.
2. The second solutions (from this forum again) was to create a single slideshow containing all the mixed format shows, use Garageband to add show markers, and output to iDVD. I used Fotomagico, which allows movies to be included with photos. The results were fine and I had two DVDs that played as I expected.
I want to thank those people who cantribute their time and expertise in these forums. I was one of many who benefitted from their posts.

I've got a solution found over on javagaming.org. It turns out that Java 1.4 was using a software mixer by default. So I changed my code to force it the mixer to be softwared.
This code creates a software mixer:

Problems with mixed 10.5 and 10.6 client

We run a small network based on 10.6 server. Most users are network user accounts. I'm seeing strange behaviour when a user moves from a 10.6 client to a 10.5 client. Address book needs to be reimported, spotlight reindexes, iTunes Library needs to be rebuilt etc.
Is anyone seeing the same issues, and are there any workarounds?

just to close down an old thread. Mail on 10.6 and 10.5 are not interchangable, neither are the two versions of Address Book. I've had to limit users to either 10.5 or 10.6 macs and will eventually get them all to 10.7, retiring to PPC machines.

Could you please help. There should be a problem with mixed content in a ComplexType or with the attribute minOccurs and maxOccurs at the choice element.

I just installed the parser and schema and
it worked out of the bag for me.
I'm using Java 1.3.0 :
java version "1.3.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0-C)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-C, mixed mode)
But, like the original poster, I wonder why
these samples use the old standard?
The readme doc says it conforms to the 2000/10 spec.
For grins I changed report.xml and report.xsd to now reference the 2000/10 namespaces and the parser runs but reports some errors. I guess that is OK, and that somebody just needs to update the schema itself to the new standards. Still, it makes me wonder...
Now, my problem is that I have an xml/xsd combo that it chokes on but that is another post.

Embarrassing problem with ATI HD 5850 (Noise + Drivers)

Hi all. First of all let me warn you that I'm French so sometimes my english will probably be inaccurate.
I experience some problems with my graphic card, a MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850, my screen is a Samsung Syncmaster 2233rz.
The drivers I got with my box was the 9.12 version (something like that).
Here are the games I installed :
Quake 2
Quake 4
Quake Live
Killing Floor
Painkiller
Bioshock
Fear
Fear 2
Starcraft
I did some tests with some of them.
With the basic drivers for the CD of the box :
Quake 2 : Doesn't appear in fullscreen mode, or with awful colors, but if I put the opengl option in the video settings then it's ok.
Quake 4 : Seems alright, but I had to choose a particular resolution or the game would just appear in a small windows in the center of the screen.
Starcraft : The game is horrible, appears in a small window in the upright corner of the screen and with terrible colors.
Quake Live : Seems ok but difficult to find a good resolution so that the image takes the whole screen.
Fear 2 : Seems alright...
Now here comes what disturbs me :
Fear : Horrible sound when I enter the menu that comes from the graphic card. Like a whistling sound, like a teapot getting hot.
Painkiller : Same horrible sound, even louder.
This sound was terrible and I wanted to get the window streched out so that Starcraft and other games would appear in fullscreen mode automatically (I couldn't enable it in ATI Catalyst).
So I installed drivers 10.6 :
Quake Live : Problem with some colors, I heard 10.5 and 10.6 wasn't compatible with Quake Live...
Okay...
So I installed 10.4 :
Possibility to make the screen strech in the Catalyst menu so Starcraft was ok.
Fear : Terrible sound in the menu and game + the game crashes (frozen screen) after 30 seconds of gaming.
Painkiller : Terrible sound in the menu, didn't even play.
Quake 4 : Was pretty much okay, only little annoying sound, but crashes after 30 seconds of gaming (same as Fear).
Quake Live : Ok.
Quake 2 : Was pretty much okay, I could play in fullscreen with the opengl thing.
Fear 2 : All seems ok ( !!!!????).
So...I was pissed off because of Fear and Quake 4 crashes.
Then I went back to the 9.12 version :
Quake 4 : Unlaunchable (LOL, it was ok before I installed 10.6 and 10.4...?????????????????????)
Quake 2 : Impossible to go in OpenGl mode (Was possible previously...?????????????????????)
Fear : Horrible sound but the game doesn't crash it seems.
Fear 2 : Seems ok (good game ^^)
Starcraft : The game is horrible, appears in a small window in the upright corner of the screen and with terrible colors. -> Impossibility to activate the automatic stretching again it seems.
Painkiller : Horrible sound, didn't try to play.
Quake Live : Ok.
What can I do ? I'm currently downloading the 10.1 patch. I want to play all the games, not 3 out of 10 with each patch,
and what is this horrible noise my graphic card seems to do when I play some games (not even all...) ? I try to put the fans at maximum with ATI Overdrive (smthing like that) and that sound wasn't here, so where does it comes from...that's a mistery.
If somebody can be of any help I'll be really happy. I have no problem with the sound if that doesn't mean that the card has a problem and will probably explode one day, but the crashing sound and OpenGl problems and all...
What would you advise to that I get a perfect intallation of the 10.1 version ?

Look for latest game patches, try different VGA drivers if needs too.

Problem with DTT3500 soundset and onboard Soundblaster live! 24-bit

Hi,
I have bought a new PC with an MSI k8n sli platinum MB. this mainboard has a built in soundblaster live!24-bit chip onboard. it works great on headphones and normal 2 set speakers (analog connection).
however, when I try to set them up at the DTT3500 speaker set, trouble begins.
before continuing, just want to say First that my older PC is standing next to it, with a Soundblaster live! 5.1. If I connect with this PC to my speaker set, via the digital uitput, everythin works great. (5.1 surround).
In the DTT3500 manual, when Digital DIN is blinking, it says it isn't recieving any signal, or not the right one (like AC-3). (I know this when on my old PC when I switch to headphones, the digital din is then blinking, which is normal as I disabled Digital output in Windows)
now my questions:
Is this digital port is ac-3 signal or somthing else on the Soundblaster live! 24-bit?
Do I need to use another type of cable, like SPDIF Din Cable? (I now have a minijack to Din cable)
I tried with optical, it works, but only with 2 speakers (left and right / digital output is on). is this normal? If i look at the manual, it's typical used for gameconsoles with stereo left and right. I guess this is so with the DDT3500 decoder...?
if I try Digital Din on the Decoder, it doesn't work. the Decoder Led keeps blinking. Yet in Windows, digital output is on and 5.1 speakers is selected.
In short, exact the same setup on the Decoder and PC as my older PC.
My guess is the the soundblaster live! 24-bit is an enhanced version of the soundblaster live! 5.1? Am I wrong, I don't know....
I do know that the reviews said you could use the digital port (orange one)

Hey all,
First off i would like to say hey to everyone as i am new so i hope someone out there can help me and me likewise in the future.
Onto my problem. I recently bought an Alesis Multimix 8 USB and i am having a few problems with my iBook recieving the left and right signals from the device. I am currently running it through Ableton Live however when it recognises the mixer it says that there is only one input, the left one.
For the work i am trying to do i would need the left and right inputs to act as seperate channels into Live. When i first bought the mixer it worked fine and Live read 2 inputs easily however now for some reason it has stopped seeing one.
I think it may be a problem with the audio software in OS X 3.9 but i am not sure, i am trying to repair what i can however it seems to me that the only option i may have would be reinstalling 3.9 again from scratch.
If anyone has any ideas about what could be wrong or how to get the 2 inputs back i would be very grateful.
Please help me as this is driving me mad!

I cannot pretend that I know anything about your subject but a couple of non invasive things you can try before resorting to a re-install. (Usually a last resort with Macs).
1) Have a look at Audio MIDI setup in your Applications>Utilities folder and see if there is a setting there that with resolve your problem.
2) Create a new user in System Preferences>Accounts.(always a good troubleshooting measure this, whatever the problem). Log out of your own account and into the new. Does the problem persist? If it doesn't there'll probably be a preference file somewhere to do with the device you are using.
If the problem does persist then it could be the unit itself, the lead (have you tried a different one/port?), or - worst case scenario- a hardware/sw problem with your iBook.
Not a lot of constructive help, I'm afraid, but some avenues to explore…
