Soundblaster Live! Value (WDM) and Windows XP - noise coming through the card

Hey everyone,
I have a Soundblaster Li've! Value (bought in 2000). I have been using this card without a problem on my Win Xp Professional machine until about 3 months back when it started giving noise and distorted sound. I have tried reinstalling the driver but nothing seems to work.
I have an ASUS motherboard with onboard Realtek high definition audio and I'm currently using that for playing back/recording sound.
I would be grateful if someone could suggest a solution to my problem.
Regards,
Krishna

It's hard to know exactly where the conflict is but my "simple" approach to your problem would be:
If Windows recognizes the card, says it's working but it isn't, the likely cause is that it is still loading generic, old drivers at startup.
My way of dealing with this that is quick but does not always work:
. Make sure you have the new drivers install folder (directory) on your desktop or in your C:dri've (so you don't have to reboot to install the new drivers).
2. After startup Windows has presumably installed the generic drivers. Go to Device Manager and uninstall EVERYTHING that has anything to do with that sound card through Properties. Confirm that this worked by checking the Device Manager and seeing that the sound card no longer shows up.
3. Go to the directory with the new drivers and follow the installation procedure.
If you have conflicts elsewhere then this advise probably will not work and you may have to "Cleansweep" and do some other laborious, boring stuff as described by Creative Labs staff elsewhere in this forum.
Hope it works.

!SoundBlaster 5. VX and Windows 7i Hello all,
I installed a SoundBlaster 5. VX sound card into my system: A Fujitsu-Siemens Celsius M430, 3.4 GHz Intel processor, 2GB of RAM and a fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate (retail version). I initially tried to use the drivers provided on the product CD, which during installation gave me a bluescreen. After reboot, I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 from the CLE website. But still, the drivers seem to not install correctly - I get a message that the SB 5. VX is ready for use, but the speaker symbol still shows a red cross and when I click on it, Windows suggests me to re-install the drivers, which gives me the same results even after rebooting. In the Device Manager, the device has a yellow exclamation mark besides it. Additonally, I may mention that the onboard sound device is a SoundMax onboard system, which I now have disabled. Anyhow, the SounbdBlaster is recognized by CLE AutoUpdate software (but needs no update according to the mesages). I'm a bit thrown up, did anybody encounter the same problems or have a solution yet?
    Cheers
    Dennis

My macbook pro is probably only 2 months old and there is a buzzing/grinding noise coming from the left side of the laptop every time I open it.  It may buzz 5 times in a span of 30 seconds then not make the noise the remaining time that it is open.  I have read that it may have to do with my fan or HD.  I am under apple care for a good amount of time but am wondering if this is a mjor issue.  I would not be able to get to an apple care center in the near future due to being at school.  Should I be worried or will it last by the time I am home in 2 months.

Sounds like the disk in your MBP is accessing data on wake up
If you are still concerned you can take it into the Apple Store where they can hear it to be sure

Some Kind of huge Noise coming from the Disc Drive while inserting and ejecting the disc.
i have just purchased it before a couple of days a go.

I just installed a Mac Pro for a client. After a while I noticed this buzzing everyones talking about. It was especially bad after I installed two more internal drives. It seemed to come and go with HD activity. I pulled up the lever on the back of the machine when it was particularly loud and the buzzing went away. So like some others have noticed it's associated with the HD bays. I took the side off and adjusted the seating of the drives so they were exactly centered Now the buzzing is gone. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe it will need some kind of silicone bumpers where the bay trays are metal to metal.
    More research to come.

If this does not help, contact Apple.

Hi John. Thanks for that input. At Step 6, after clicking "Next" I get a window telling me my OS version is unsupported and the installation may not complete. I am prompted to go to Canon's web site to "Check Latest Info".
I've had this window on previous attempts and from Canon's web site I downloaded two drivers as follows
    - ICA Driver V4.0.0
    - Canon IJ Network Tool V4.5.0
I'm not sure if these are the correct / complete drivers I need for this install or not.
I continue to follow all the steps. At step 9 I click "Wireless Set Up using USB" amd get a License Agreement (a little different than instructions)
I click "Agree" and it goes to a Setup window with two progress bars showing the installation. I've not been prompted to connect the USB?
After the Setup window is done, I am then prompted to connect the printer via USB. I connect the printer and click on "Redetect". It is not detected.
I then try following the Canon on screen instructions for connecting to the wireless LAN amd enter the password. It searches and indicates "Connecting" on the window, but it never connects and the blue light just blinks
So, at this point I am stuck??
    Thanks
    Stephen

  • When I turned on my computer this morning it had a new noise coming from the top of the screen at the back.  Not loud but almost whirring.  What might this be ?

When I turned on my computer this morning it had a new noise coming from the top of the screen at the back.
    Not loud but almost whirring.
    What might this be ?

    21.5 Mid 2010
Processor  3.2 GHz Intel Core i3
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)
I just found an answer !
I had moved my computer into another room and had to turn up the brightness, as I have always had it on the lowest setting.  In doing so it created the noise, I turned it right down and it stopped.  I have now set it about level 3 so it's not so distracting.
    thanks

  • Noise coming from the bottom of my mac?

There's a noise coming from the base of my early 2013 Mac Book Pro Retina.  When I'm resting it on my lap or pick it up it sounds like a spring sound and occasionally I can here it when I'm typing and push down a little hard on the t, y and u keys.  Do you think it would be possible to take this in to an Apple store and get it replaced or changed?  Not effecting performance but expect better for paying upwards of £2000.  Still within the 1 year warranty.  Thanks.

Aside from the fan, there should be no noises emanating from a retina MBP.  Your MBP comes with a warranty.  By all means take advantage of it and make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

I have tried manually removing itunes and reinstalling. i have gone through the sevices anf tried turning on the AMDS. i have tried turning off the firewall. i have tried restoring my device. i have tried "fixing" the AMDS in the add/remove programs. I have tried using a different device. i have tried using a different cable. I have tried all of the steps given in the link supplied by Apple. None of these things have fixed my problem. I still have the Error Message "The Apple Mobile Device Service started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs or Alerts service. I am using Windows XP. I am leaning towards a last resort which would be to wipe my hard drive and start from scratch. Does anyone have a solution?

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • My music app icon is missing from my home screen and I have to go through the search to find and use it. How do I get the icon back on my home screen

(IOS 7 update trouble) My music app icon is missing from my home screen and I have to go through the search to find and use it. How do I get the icon back on my home screen

Find which screen, folder it was moved to, and hold down the icon until the icons start shaking. Then drag it to the left or right edge of the screen, and it will allow you to move it to which ever screen you want it. When you have it there, tap the Home button to stop the icons form shaking.
Or do what hannahsage said above.

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

I can no longer mirror and of my monitors VGA or HDMI, my itunes which supplies iphone and ipad has disabled podcast app so that I can't listen to my favorite programs and I find out after the fact that Office software is not compatible with OSX 8.6.
Forget about the fact that itunes looks like it was developed by a 1980s MS-DOS programmer.   Its kludgy, limited and generally does not work.
What does one do?  Frankly, I used to use macs because they were like info appliances that just worked.  Now the time to manage tech glitches from the company has become way too costly.  Sadly, Apple has become Microsoft and Microsoft seems to become Apple.

"... as do the users who are downloading recent OSXs in record numbers."
USUALLY YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU DOWNLOAD UNTIL YOU HAVE IT !!!
APPLE USED TO HAVE GREAT STUFF BUT OBVIOUSLY TRIES TO INVENT FOR THE SAKE OF INVENTING !!!
THIS IS ACTUALLY A STEP BACKWARDS (TO MS).
CALENDAR & CONTACTS SYNC VIA ICLOUD ONLY IS AN ABSOLUTE NO GO !!!
