SoundBlaster mixer support under plain DOS?

I have the following problem at hand - I want to run some DOS based programs (mainly old games and demos) which use SoundBlaster.
When the integrated AC97 codec is enabled in BIOS and also the legacy SoundBlaster support (with 220, 5 and 1) and I have set the BLASTER environment variable, then the SoundBlaster is detected successfully, but the sound remains muted - it works, but can only barely be heard when I turn the external amplifier up extremely high. I believe the problem is in AC97 codec and BIOS which does not set the registers for the AC97 chip properly.
Does anyone know of a DOS based AC97 mixer controller or any info on how to turn off the mute and turn up the volume of AC97 codec _in DOS_ so that DOS based programs can use the SoundBlaster emulation?
My rig consists of MSI K7T Pro2-A under a 1GHz Athlon TBird and 512 MB of memory.
Bratac

It seems that I got this thing worked out. From the link given by Bas (thanks!) above I got the the AC97 mixer by Alex Mina, which actually does the trick, though from under Windows.
So, I installed a barebone Win98SE, but didn't install VIA audio driver. Windows detected the BIOS enabled SoundBlaster Pro emulation and installed the crude SB Pro driver.
At first it was like before - max amplification revealed sound working, but being muted like before. Now Alex's AC97 mixer helped - I was able to un-mute the global volume and PCM line volume of the AC97 codec, and voila - there was sound.
Now I exited to MS-DOS and most DOS things work with SB Pro settings, even those that require the CPU _not_ to be in virtual x86 mode !

Hello. Before you go to the trouble of trying to operate a sound card under MS-DOS, have you considered DOSbox which runs in Windows and provides support sound support for older games??Here is a link if that will work for you. I would encourage you to donate to them if you decide to use the software. http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=?If you must operate under DOS, you will have to try a web search on Google or another search engine to find someone that might have them posted. drbug

I need help, I use my phone for everything enclusive to work. I appreciate if you can help. I'm from Brazil. My name and giullia.

Did you purchase this device from Apple or an authorized reseller? It sounds as if you had a device that was jailbroken/hacked to operate on your carrier. Upon updating the iOS, it is now locked back to the original carrier the device was locked to.
Only the carrier the device is locked to can authorize an unlock. You will need to make contact with that carrier and see if they provide unlocking services, and if they do, if you qualify for an unlock. Otherwise, you are out of luck. One that carrier can take care of the unlocking.

Or if you've recently got the phone unlocked then you'll need to connect it to  itunes and then do a fresh restore to unlock it ,although for most users simply connecting to itunes for few seconds did the trick.

Use attached archive, extract all files to bootable USB stick,
then boot from it to pure DOS, when you see A:\ or C:\, type:
    flash [ENTER]
    Thank you its worked.

    what can in do?

Well unfortunatly that advice does not always work. I bought a unlocked iphone4  from apple several years ago and went to att on a no contract basis. Six months later the phone crashed while updating the operating system. Apple replaced the phone with a new one. All is fine till I got a iphone5 and gave te phone to my cousin. The phone is now locked to att but att says the IMEI number is not a valid ATT IMEI and therfore cant unlock it. Apple says there is nothing They can or are willing to do so now I am stuck for a 600.00 phone that can't be used.
If anyoun knows a way naround this situation mI would appreciate a heads up.

  • How do I get firewire support under XP running on OSX 10.8.2?

I have an old Nikon film scanner that is bundled with Nikon scanning software that requires Windows XP.  The film scanner has only a firewire cable.  My iMac is running OSX 10.8.2.  I installed Oracle's (free) VirtualBox and was able to get XP running on my mac.  However, I soon discovered that VirtualBox has no firewire support.  That sent me searching for other methods of running XP under OSX.  I thought Apple's Parallels 8 software would do the trick but I don't believe it supports firewire either.
Can anyone give me an idea of what software would allow me to run XP with firewire support under OSX 10.8.2?
Another question:  Do those firewire-to-USB adapter plugs work and are they safe to use?
For those who have familiarity with film scanners, VueScan is not a desirable option for me because it does not fully support Digital Ice, while Nikon's software does.
    Thanks..

This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. It looks like the iPhone is locked to a carrier that is not the one you are trying to use.
You need to determine which carrier it is locked to and then contact them to see if they are willing to authorise the unlocking of your iPhone.  As ManSinha mentioned, many carriers will only authorised the unlock if requested by the customer who had the contract with them for this iPhone.
Remember that only the carrier who owns the lock on your Iphone can authorise Apple to unlock the iPhone in their servers.  You need to contact the carrier or have the previous owner of the iPhone request the unlocking.

  • CGI support under AIX ?

We tried to run a simple program using the CGIServlet
under WLS 5.1 and AIX 4.3.3. The program isn't called
at all. In the Developer Center, section "CGIServlet
translations", we found that CGIServlet is only supported
    under NT, Solaris and HP-UX.
Q: Will CGIServlet be supported under AIX? If so, when
    is this going to happen?
    Regards,
    Jens

We currently have no plans to support the CGI servlet under AIX yet. This
is something we're planning for future releases -- or, we have been
considering placing that servlet on our developers center web site.
    Thanks,

  • WARNING: DSP 3 NOT supported under Quad-Core G5 Systems!

This is from my posting at the DSP forum and a warning to all...
Alright, are you ready for this one? I just contacted Apple Support about running DSP 3 on my newly purchased Quad-core G5.
Those of us with a Quad-core G5 system are SCREWED when it comes to using DSP 3. The Apple guy told me that DSP 3 is not supported under the Quad systems (because "the Quad systems didn't exist at the time that DSP 3 was around" but wait, didn't DSP 4 come out BEFORE the Quad-core systems, too?). You have to use DSP 4 if you have a Quad-core G5.
I explained my outrage to the guy (very unsympathetic) that Apple does not post this information on their website and does not inform their Apple Store employees about the issue (I had mentioned to several employees of my intentions to run DSP 3 on the system when I was buying it).
The guy said that no one's complaining about this issue because "everyone gets the latest and greatest software to run on the newest machines" and "that's just the nature of technology" Yeah, right. I hate to say it, but I have Windows 98 apps from a single proc that run fine on Windows XP on a dual proc system.
Anyway, spread the word and give Apple some more money by upgrading to DSP 4, so that they can keep nickel and diming us. The guy mentioned that if anyone wants to complain, that they can complain to the Final Cut Pro discussions site since apparently, that's the place where Apple actually reads posts.

    Heya,
Unsupported it may be, but does it run ok? I could
see it having worse performance than on a single-proc
machine, but it shouldn;t have any actual problems.
The guy said that no one's complaining about this
issue because "everyone gets the latest and greatest
software to run on the newest machines" and "that's
Well, given that you have bought their first machine
which supports > 2 concurrent threads [e.g. one system
thread and one app thread], I'd say he's partly right.
Anyone forking out the money for a quad will be [partly]
wasting it if they do not run applications that are
written to be fully multithreaded, i.e. written with
    the quad in mind.
This is probably especially true on the Apple platform
as the programmers will assume that the user is on
one of the handful of machines available at the time.
Being inherently lazy, no programmer is going to add the
complexity of supporting n threads if only single-proc
machines are being sold [yeah,ok, there were dual-procs,
but that really means a two-thread system, which is
normally the case anyways ... one for GUI and one for
    processing].
to say it, but I have Windows 98 apps from a single
proc that run fine on Windows XP on a dual proc
    system.
Given the nature of Windows 98[/95/ME] and the
applications written for it, I am very frightened
    for your system integrity

  • No Soundblaster 16pci support in Windows 7 RC1?

/ I know that this is an old card, but why is there not even any built in driver support for this in Windows 7 RC? Will this also be the case in the release version of Windows 7?The card?is fine for basic sound and I have a MIDI controller keyboard that connects via the Joystick/MIDI port. Both are about to become redundant if I inevitably upgrade to Windows 7.
    Thanks in advance.

Re: No Soundblaster 6pci support in Windows 7 RC?r There may be WHQL drivers (which will be VERY VERY basic, up on the Windows update manual download site.
Also you can look at a VISTA INF file that has the entry for the sound card, find which drivers it copies for installation and extract those from the cab files of VISTA. My experience has been that many drivers that work on VISTA work on Windows 7.
You will need a legal copy of VISTA to extract these drivers from to begin with. I do not want to recommend violating EULA's from Microsoft. I recommend unusual changes with Creative drivers and apps, because they do give people Daniel and Robert Mc the freedom to do so as well.

Does Adobe Premiere 7 work ok and is it supported under Vista 64 bits operating system?

No, it's not supported under any 64-bit operating system.
But it seems to work in compatibility mode, which turns on automatically in Vista. It may occasionally suffer a hiccup, but it seems to work for many people.
Just make sure all of your firmware, RealTek drivers and Quicktime are up to date.
