  • USB Connection Issues-New Mac Pro

I have a new Mac Pro (late 2013) that has USB connection issues.
First; it often fails to recognize a USB keyboard, or takes more than a minute to do so.  I tried it with two different keyboards, one a regular Apple USB keyboard and the other a Das Keyboard unit.  I tried it both on a powered USB hub and directly connected to the computer.  Neither of these affected the problem.  It happened both under Mountain Lion and Yosemite, and seems to be worse under Yosemite.  This problem DOES NOT occur on my Mac Mini, so the problem appears to be with the Mac Pro.  Most of the time unplugging and plugging the keyboard in again solves the problem.  This gets old.  I have gone to using a bluetooth keyboard but much prefer the USB keyboards with the numeric keyboard.
It also ejects the only USB drive attached to it.  It does not eject the two Thunderbolt drives.  The disconnection occurs when the Mac Pro is in the "sleep" mode; the "Disk not ejected properly" message is displayed when the computer wakes up.  This happens almost all the time.  The same drive does not exhibit this behavior when attached to the Mac Mini.  It is an older G-Drive unit.
Possibly related to this is the fact that the two Thunderbolt units (Pegasus R2 and Lacie) do not shut off when the Mac Pro is sleeping.  I wonder if the problem lies in how the unit "sleeps" and "wakes up".  I don't know enough about the internal workings of these things to know how to test for this.
If anyone knows how to fix this I'd appreciate some advice.

  • Soundblaster Omni Crashes Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10

Just recently updated to Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10, and I can confirm that the Soundblaster Omni USB Soundcard is currently crashing with the latest Mac OS X operating system.
    To reproduce...
    1. Update to Mac OS X Yosemite
    2. After installation, connect Omni USB
    3. Kernel Panic, and system crash
Any news on when a patch will be issued to correct the issue?
Currently the Sound Card is not usable.

Might want to put your Omni under your pillow, and hope the SoundCard fairy gives you your money back.
Here's hoping that's not the case.
It'd be totally unacceptable, with all my respect to Creative team. Omni has been available for less than a year, it is not discontinued, and OS X users are known to be early adaptors of OS updates, so one should expect that most part of Omni consumers might have switched to Yosemite already. With the dead card!

Is 10.9.4 having USB port issues? I'm noticing copying files to USB ports on my Mac Pro (the front two anyway) seems to be like molasses and give me the pinwheel of death.

  • Repair Windows 7 on a 2013 iMac with USB 3 issue

Hi. I have a corrupt Windows 7 parition  on my late 2013 iMac that Disk Utility can not seem to repair. My best guess is a the 'Repair Windows' from the install disc upon booting up will fix the issue. The problem is....my 2013 iMac only has USB 3 ports available and from what I am reading it appears Windows 7 does not support USB 3. Therefore....my external CD drive is not being seen, nor are my keyboard, mouse, or anything else via the USB 3 ports (I also tried a bootable flash drive with the neccesary Windows files on there). I even went as far as making a bootable SD Card and trying to repair from that, but I still can not utilize my mouse and keyboard to advance through the prompts.
I did not have these issues when I installed it using Bootcamp because I am guessing bootcamp supplies the neccesary means to allow the USB 3 ports to be recognized. But Bootcamp does not have a feature for repairing windows. It is only giving me the option to remove Windows.
Is there anyway I can repair windows using my Windows installation CD on an iMac by means of using USB 3 ports?
    Thanks in advance.

For attempting to repair a Windows 7 partition you need to be able to boot into Windows setup indeed. The complication is that Windows 7 installer has aged and does not support the relatively new USB 3 standard.
I can only this of one approach which is by downloading the available Windows ISO and use USB instead of your DVD. It is kind of a long shot and does have its risks, but I'll describe it high-level nonetheless:
    - Using Boot Camp create an USB with Windows 7 edition you run as well as the appropriate Windows Support Files from Apple
    - From OS X or the Mac's Recovery Console you could shrink your HFS+ partition for about 3 GB to create some free space
    - Insert an additional primary partition in this free space and format it FAT
    - Sync this GPT change to MBR manually using fdisk and reboot into OS X
    - Pre-copy the Windows PE driver folder onto this new FAT partition to overcome the USB 3 issue
    - Reboot in legacy bless'd mode to your USB recovery stick
The Windows setup screen should display an option to repair instead of install... Your mileage could vary depending on the type of corruption(!)

  • Which is better for solving Mac issues

I have been experiencing Kernel Panics and program crashes. I want something that is good for testing hardware and OS issues. Can either of these find corrupted data files? I am looking at two utilities for purchase. Which is better for solving Mac Issues?
    TechTool Pro
    or
    Disk Warrior?

When you say "complete bootable backup" do you mean that it contains the OS + all my applications? Basically a clone of the start-up?
Yes, you have that very clear. I use Tri-backup or CCC for this normally, but there are other options.
If I have this clone, and I start getting issues on my Mac, I can Zero the HD and reinstall the OS via the clone (including all the applications)?
Yes, and if pressed for time you can just keep working off the Clone.
I can Zero the HD and reinstall the OS via the clone (including all the applications)?
Yep, right back to 100%, excluding HW issues.
With all my software... it takes a day to reinstall all of it to a complete image.
Yes, the only sensible thing is a Clone... or two. Most problems can be overcome by simply Verifying/Repairing the HD once in awhile, Repairing Permissions before and after every update/upgrade, and turning off Auto Updates in SW Update CP... wait a couple of weeks and check these forums for the number of problems with any update.
PS. DiskWarrior has saved me hundreds of times from having to do complete new Installs or cloning back of Installs, I figure that's saved me 10's of thousands of hours & grief... I appreciate Alsoft so much that I don't even go for the generous upgrade offers on new versions... I just buy the new version completely at Retail.
PPS. Funny thing, you'll read something like DiskWarrior is a one Pony Dog Show or something... just does one thing... I just have to laugh outloud... Yeah, the one thing is... cure my incurable Mac Problems 99.9% of the time!

  • Error opening  document. file is damaged  Would this be an Adobe issue or a MAC issue?

I cannot open PDFs attached to my Mac Mail messages. The following pops up:"There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Would this be an Adobe issue or a MAC issue?

It very possibly can be an email issue. Some email providers encode files to make transfer faster. When pdf files are decoded, it could break them.
The first thing to try if you haven't already is to save the attachment (without trying to open it) to your desktop and THEN try to open it. Another would be to have whomever is sending the files to you, Zip them first.

  • New Two Slot USB Mac Reader for P2 at Panny Booth NAB2006

Jan Crittenton mentioned that there is a USB Mac reader being developed that will work with the MacBook Pros.
She indicated it was available for viewing at the Panasonic booth at NAB?
Just another P2 store, or something different at a different price point?
Jan didn't mention price or the difference between it and the p2 store.
Anybody got the skinny on this device?

The one I had at the booth was a five card reader. It was USB 2 and firewire 800. Currently there already is a 5 card reader that is USB 2.0...but they go for $2000...as will the new ones.
Jan did say that they are working on a smaller one...a single or dual card reader. But there wasn't a mock up at the booth that I saw.

  • MSI Gaming 5 USB ports issue

    Hello everyone,
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, so as the title says it, sorta of a huge USB ports issue just happened after installing the motherboard / windows / all drivers, even restarted a few times
then tested the processor and video card.
Everything ok to that point, I left the pc opened for 3 hours, shut it down, the next day..I couldn't type the windows password.
Alright restart, that maybe one of those kinks that goes away on it's own I guess..Switched each device in different ports..nothing, tried only one device..still nothing.
Tried only usb2.0 ports then 3.0 port > a a little panic kicked in :D
So, in my bios I was seeing 2 keyboards 2 mice..ok...got a bios update from msi site..latest one..flash ..reboot..still nothing.
Strange part was..they were working just fine in bios and everything prior to windows loading, even after that mouse was showing power ( led was ok )but no functionality.
Safe mode didn't help..the miracle of last known good config saved the day.
BUT after choosing the option..ok it started working....randomly..I was typing the windows pass...and right in the middle ...it stopped again..mouse was working...tried again..stopped at 75% of the password.
Tried again...it worked > Reinstalled every driver.. seems stable for now, though being day 2 of this whole deal.
So if anyone honors me with enough time to read the story and maybe relate I would glady appreciate it.
Guys if anyone had any usb related incidents with any of the Z97Gaming boards please share
If I missed anything, please ask.
    Thank you

    Hello everyone,
Sorry for the delay in all of this and thank you for the input.
Specs are below, and this is something currently in the process of being upgraded.
    I7 4790k / MSI Gaming 5 / Sirtec 500W / 8 gb ram  Corsair Vengeance / AMD sapphire 7970 GHZ / one single HDD 1 GB
The Windows installation went fine on 2 other colleagues from work.
For the moment stable, I removed and reinstalled all USB related drivers.
It was a weird one though..

  • N97 usb connectivity issues

    Hi,
I've had my N97 for about a week now and am having some serious USB connectivity issues with the phone in that when I connect to my PC, on the first occasion it will recongnise the USB connection, but if it gets disconnected it subsequently won't reconnect.  This means I am unable to install the latest version of the firmware which appears to address some USB issues.  I've tried both version 1 and the beta 2 Ovi suite.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    Trev

    Hi!
Me and my friend at work got the same STUPID problem. We unpacked our phones, connected them and upgraded FW and got everything setup (mail, music etc.)
Now I got back to work and thought that it was no problem plugging in my phone and update it with some new music and contacts...well was I wrong...the stupid 7000 SEK phone won't even take the electricity and charge...I get no connection to the PC...it worked fine 2 days ago...
So I try to install the stuff on the CD again, no luck....I tell Windows to add new hardware, nowhere on the Internet and nowhere on the CD are there drivers to be found...
So here I am with a million dollar phone I can't connect to my PC...what the hell is this???
Looking in this thread and seeing the answers I should not hold my breath waiting for this to be fixed...but my question is: Will I have to wait for a FW update for this phone to connect to my PC?
    Regards

  • USB connectivity issues

I recently bought a 20GB 4G iPod from a friend, who had bought it originally off of ebay atleast a year ago so all I have is the ipod itself and a usb cable.
Everything on it works fine, all of the music previously put on works fine, as do pictures, etc. But when I went to go add and delete files off of the ipod I got the "USB Device Not Recognized" balloon popup in XP. After going through these forums and numerous others I haven't been able to accomplish anything. I've tried the 5R's (except for restore as I haven't been able to get the ipod connected in any way to this computer).
I have another computer downstairs which is a few years older, about 5 years old but which has XP installed aswell, so I figured I might try and see if I could get anything to work on that.I tried to plug the ipod into just to see if something would work, and it showed up in My Computer right away before I had iTunes installed. I did, however get an error about the usb ports not being high speed, I'm assuming they're USB1.1 giving the computer's age, but it worked nevertheless. I got the ipod to charge, it to be accessible from iTunes, and to show up in Windows Explorer without a hitch.
After having it fully charged I tried once again to hook the ipod up to any usb port with no avail. I checked both computers' properties and found both have 500 mA to each USB port, so I would assume the USB 2.0 ports would have a better chance of working than the 1.1?
Any help is greatly appreciated, let me know if you need more information, thanks!

This may sound really strange, but if your computer has a FireWire connection, try using that instead. I recently bought a new computer (HP w/Windows XP) and had all sorts of USB connection issues.
    USB Device Not Recognized
    iPod needs to be restored
    Cannot Read USB Storage Device
Finally fed up, I tried the FireWire ports on the computer and it worked not problem. iTunes popped right up and started updating.
