SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatality: Dead aga

Well, it suddenly happened again. Last night, my PC got corrupted (stupid bad SATA cable) and I had to reinstall Windows. Along the line, I reinstalled my drivers for the X-Fi, and then when I tested it out, noted that there's no sound. I noticed that the speakers were unplugged, without thinking twice I just plugged it in. The next thing I knew, the speakers hissed and beeped loudly, and I got a BSOD. Upon resetting the system, the card was no longer recognized. I took the PC apart again, reseated the X-Fi, and the card was recognized again. However, now the system keeps freezing when I try to change mode or access the Equalizer screen.
Did my X-Fi died again? Can it die from something as simple as plugging in speakers while the PC is powered on? Why? Other soundcards I have used in the past and even the older Creative cards I have doesn't do this.Message Edited by RAMChYLD on 2-30-20062:8 AM

Ok, nevermind. Turns out that the drivers were somehow corrupted (funny, I thought I replaced the SATA cable...)

  • Pre-Amp Xfi Fatali

Hello i bought the Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality Professional Series Xtreme Gamer with 64 mb X-Ram soundcard and was wondering if there is pre-amp on the soundcard for the line in/mic jack. I want to know this so i can decide if its suitable for recording from a Mic for studio/production/mix work. Thanks in advance

I haven't tried to on my system. I went from the Audigy 2 plat. to the X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion. I was recording from a dynamic mic and found the sound slightly low even with the input volume turned up. If you use a condensed mic with phantom power you may have better results.

  • Best Headphones for x-fi fatali

    Hello,
i am planning to buy a soundblaster x-fi fatality next week.
Currently i am using the speedlink medusa 5. headset, but i am not pleased with this headset.
As long as i am buying a quite expensi've (imo) soundcard, I want the headset to match perfectly to that card.
I am going to use the headphones for the following purposes: playing games (Battlefield 2, Everquest 2, GT Legends, Age of Empires II) and listening to music.
I thought about buying the Sennheiser PC 60 Headset, but i am afraid, that this one doesn?t fit exactly to the x-fi: i read in a test, that the simulated surround sound works best with headphones, that cover the whole ear (hope that you know what i mean).
Does someone have experiences, with this hardware combination?
Or can you recommend some headsets?
Maybe it'ss even better to buy some good headphones and use a seperate microphone?
Thanks in advance for your help

You should do a forum search on this topic - it has been posted a few times and the responses contained the info you seek.
Good luck with your new card. I have a fatalty and like it very much. You will love how good BF2 sounds.

  • X-Fi Fatality & Emu-0404-- Way to install on same system?

I bought the proteus X/emu0404 package recently. I am looking at purchasing a new computer with the Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality board. A previous post stated that the Emu professional soundcards do not "play nice" with the X-Fi cards.
Can this information be verified? Are there any workarounds to this issue?

Message Edited by fffcmad on 02-22-200704:44 PM

  • [XP64] Microphone does not work in WinXP 64

Hi,In Windows XP 64bit my microphone does not work, tried it in Ventrilo 2., Skype and even in the Windows Recorder. The computer don't detect any sound. Offcourse?I have selected the microphone in the recordering section in the Windows volume panel and the volume at maxium. Also in the volume panel under playback the microphone is not mute, set to max volume. I have also installed WinXP 32bits and here it works OK with exactly the same settings. Thats why I think it is because of my Soundcard driver, I have installed the latest driver from this site. I have a SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatality. Is there anyone with a X-Fi soundcard with the same problem or anyone where the microphone works in WinXP 64bit's Or is it a known problem? Please help me

Hi Theicewarrior,?Creative support has been aware of this issue for quite some time (6+ months, maybe even a year). The 4GB+?RAM driver/addressing issues are not a priority or they would have been addressed quite some time ago.
Presumably this is due to functional Vista drivers for the masses being a higher priority than the relati'vely few of us with 4GB+ RAM and an X-Fi.
While the X-Fi?is a great card, my only wish was that the vendor was forthright about this product not functioning with certain configurations. It is my feeling that?making an effort to help?customers choose?products that will work with their configurations would result in satisfied and repeat customers?and a better bottom line?as opposed to?eeking a few extra dollars out of a slightly larger customer base and?who are then left unsatisfied with a product and unwilling to buy a company's products in the future.Message Edited by Foddan on 07-9-20070:45 AM

  • Cracking during playback in 3.0

Hi, first let me say that I have done a lot of research trying to fix this, to no avail.
    Here's the issue:
When playing back a multitrack, there is random crackling in the audio.  It's not recorded into the audio files themselves (you can see in the waveform), but when I export, some of the cracks and pops are actually there.
    Also...
I have 4 gigs of ram, 2.66 ghz duo core processor, and a 500 gb 7200 rpm hard drive.  When watching the task manager while audio is playing (after closing all memory hogs, Itunes, internet, etc) I can see audition jump around from 0-12 CPU usage (while every other program is 0-2), and all of the crackling coincides with these spikes.
    What I'm using:
    Windows Vista
    Presonus Firepod
    Audition 3.0
Sound Card - SoundBlaster X-FI Fatality
The crackling playback occurs no matter what drivers I use - AA 3.0 sound, ASIO4ALL, and even the firepod ones will crackle when I listen to playback through the headphone slot.
I also never had this problem when I ran Audition 1.5 on Windows XP, but I really don't want to downgrade.  I have tried recording to my external hard drive, and it seems to do the same thing.
I attached a JPEG showing what my CPU usage looks like during playback.
I will kiss you if you can solve this problem, Audition 3.0 is soooooooo much nicer than 1.5!
Also interesting to note - I just installed 1.5 on this computer and ran it in compatability mode.  I cannot record in 1.5 (due to some thing being out of date) but the playback it flawless.  I can do all sorts of things with the processes and no static or popping during playback.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the help.  Buttttt I really wanted to record something that day and ended up reformatting and going back to XP.  Ever since then, absolutely no problems at all.
    To answer your responses though:
I tried looking for buffer size in the hardware options, but did not even see it.  I did increase the cache size (if that's the same thing, not sure) considerably, but the problem persisted.
Yes, even during edit view I would get some crackling, though not as much.
The interesting thing is I didn't even have any effects applied!  I had 2 dry tracks that both would crackle upon playback.  During recording, I would also get the skips in the audio.  It was awful.
Anyways, thanks a lot, some really good advice here so I will stick around.  I'd rather downgrade the OS and get the benefits of the real time effects editing that's available in 3.0.  It must have just been a problem with audio drivers and the OS?

  • USB Headphone Mic shutting down upon opening Ventrilo

I've had my Fatality headset for a solid 6 months now. A couple of nights ago, after logging off of my vent serverto go onto another server, I lost the "ability" to speak. I can hear everything fine (vent, TS, "in game", music, movies).
My push to talk, and setting in Vent Setup, are all set (L-Alt and USB Headset). My outbound/inbound settings are where I've always had them. The mute buttons are set to off also. What I've noticed is that on the Volume Control of the headset the "on air" light turns off as soon as I log onto a vent server or try to use the Windows media recorder. When I turn those things off, the light comes back on. When I run the setup of Ventrilo, the light comes back on, but when I try to engage the Test Mode (in the Setup menu) the light shuts down (and thus the mic does also).
I've tried testing the hardware (via Control Panel>Sounds), but when I get to the stage where I'm asked to speak and the mic is engaged, the light turns off (and I assum I'm muted).
I've updated to the new drivers about 10 minutes ago, with no fix. I reapplied the latest (October) firmware as well.

Yep..exact same thing happened to me. I plug in my older Logitech into onboard jacks..fine. Plug in the USB Fatality, vent stops working, have to restart. So, desperate gamer that I am, I shoot out the Microcenter and pick up a Fatality headset with 3.5mm jacks instead of USB (frankly..its been flaky since day 1). Started fine, but after a "mic check" I got complaints of robot and garbled voice..then nothing. 3 minutes..completely unusable. I tried changing the settings(in Vista) and the Sounds panel would crash when I tried to set the headset mic as default as opposed to "What you hear." general exception faults..uninstalled/reinstalled all software and drivers. I then install my Fatality X-Fi XtremeGamer card, still no dice..restart, and the old Logitech works. plug in the Fatality, dead. I sighed a few times, then I tried another card, X-Fi XtremeMusic. I wasn't expecting much and thats what I got, nothing. So I am back to the onboard sound and a 2 year old Logitech head set with no left ear action, but it works. It seems interesting I am only having problems with the Fatality stuff.

  • X-Fi surround sound speaker assignment issue in VI

OK, here's my system:Intel Core 2 duo X6800, BFG 680i mobo, 2gb Corsair PC936, 8800GTX SLI, Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality FPS, Vista Ultimate, Logitech Z5500 So, due to the new vid cards, I decided to upgrade to Vista Ultimate for DX0 capability. Creative sent me the Vista installation disk and I installed. Here's the problem: The speaker assignments are all screwed up: The front left sound is coming out of the center channel, the center channel is coming our of the front left speaker, the front right is coming out of the subwoofer and the subwoofer is coming out of the front right. Oddly, the rears seem just fine. I ran the Logitech sound test on the z5500's and sound generates properly per that test. So, now that my PC sound is all screwed up, what the hell is the problem This sound card worked fine last week, when it was running in XP. Any ideas Any advice Please help!!

  • X79A GD45 Slow start and slow boot into windows with SSD

Im having some major issues with my X79A GD45 board, When I start the system it takes about 30 seconds sometimes more for something to appear on the screen and from cold boot it starts stops and then starts again before loading.
Once its loaded it is taking forever to get into windows Im running 2 6gb/s SSD's in raid and the windows logo is able to appear and flash 3 or 4 times before I even get into windows.
Ive tried it with just a single drive and re installations of windows but get exacly the same thing its driving me mad as Ive spent so much money on this machine. Details of my system are below:
    MSI X79A GD45 v1.0 Bios 1.6
    Intel I7 3820
    Corsair Vengeance 16gb 1600 Cl9

Creative Soundblaster 3D Recon Fatality Sound Card
    2 x Sandisk Extreme 240gb in Raid 0
    Silvertone Strider 850w PSU
    LG Bluray Writer

Updated the SSD Firmwares and it made no difference. Ive already tried single drives and the same. The drives are installed into SATA 1 and SATA2 ports the 6gb/s ones. The hang time is atleast 20 seconds at the splash screen alone before loading into windows. I checked the event log for booting and this is what it showed:

  • Computer Case Audio Pan

Hey people. I've got two questions?to ask, slightly off from each other but anyway... Firstly the reason I started this post. I was wondering how I can connect my soundcard (SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatality)?to the case audio jacks (headphone and microphone jacks). The reason I ask is because I want to be able to plug my monitor speakers into the back of my computer and my headphones into the case frontal panel (NOT the X-Fi console). Where would I connect the jumpers onto the soundcard if this is possible? Otherwise (and this is my second question) am I able to use the X-Fi jacks for my headphones and the AC'97 onboard sound for my monitor speakers? I remember reading in the past that there can be conflicts from having two different sound devices so I disabled my AC'97 so that I can use the SoundBlaster effecti'vely. Thanks

it is posable to use the case conectores. but not directly. it requires aditional parts.
some were around here i've got a mag that teles ya what parts and were to get them at.
and radioshack does not carry the primary parts so dont bother gooing thir. ill se if i can locate the mag. cause im wantting to use my case front conectors to.
ok i found the mag. this may get expenci've cause u will want to get more than of each part in case u make a mistake.
im not posting the required info here. if u wish to give this a try please email me and i will provide the details then.Message Edited by clamo on 2-0-20060:22 AM

  • What happen to Battlefield 2?

    Hi,
the last time i played BF 2 with my soundblaster x-fi fatality (pci) i really liked the eax...3d efects, echoes etc thru headphones but 6 months later i installed the game again and now i don?t find the surround/3d effects so good as before, and i have exactly the same setup!
I put the x-fi in game mode, headphones, crystallizer at 00% and in the game i put x-fi, max quality and eax enabled, anyone knows what can be?
I have xp sp3 and the driver before the last one
Also anyone knows where to find the best configurations to maximize the x-fi audio with games, creative had something like these but now i can't find it e.g. it had game developers advising to use crystalizer@ 70% and cmss-3d on etc in specific games

I like it @ 70% Crystalizer and 75% [email protected]

  • Connecting X-box360 (original) to Creative speakers through computer sound card, he

Hi everyone,I have a homebuilt PC with a soundblaster X-fi Fatality sound card with the front panel with all the optical and SPDIF inputs, etc. My creative speakers are plugged into the rear jacks directly into the sound card, and work fine on all windows applications and games. I wish to use my xbox 360 on my computer monitor with my computer speakers, however. The monitor part works fine as I just switch the input mode. However, I do not get any sound. I currently have the HD AV cable with component jacks connecting to my monitor, and an optical cable plugged into the back of the 360 on the AV cable thing and into the "optical in" jack on the front of my computer (into the front panel thing that comes with the sound card). However, I do not get any sound still. The RCA jacks are not plugged into anything (I assume that is how they should be). I tried following the tutorial on creative's website (http://93.95.7.84/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCG...rob_not_listed) but when I got to the step about going into audio console and clicking the decoder tab I could not continue. I have no decoder tab, the tabs listed are SPDIF i/o, Bit-matched, headphone detection, restore defaults, mode, speakers, EAX effects, X-fi CMSS-3D, and X-fi Crystalizer. So I am at a loss for what to do. I do have my xbox set to digital 5. in the audio settings as well, and the front panel has worked before with headphones so I know it must be connected properly. Thanks,Matt

  • Should I Upgrade to ZXR

    Hello everyone,
I am using Soundblaster X-FI Fatality PCI (with front panel module )on my PC with Inspire T7900 7.1 speakers with like 4-5 years i guess. I am mostly watching movies and playing pc games . Games i played are usually 4-5 years older. I cant play new ones before finishing old ones. (yeah i'm sick) And i have some detailed& long games on my "must finish these before i die..." list (least but not last :: new vegas, Witcher 1-2 , Red Alert 3 series, Deus Ex: Human revolution, fear,doom3, add some diablo 3 and lol to roster and you have no time.. )
ZXR does not support 7.1, this gaves me a pause. And i really dont know the latest situation about hardware/software sound.
can you provide some comments, Some links me to read etc? Thanks.
    PC : PhenomIIX4 965BE, 16GB RAM, Radeon HD5770 ,Gigabyte 790FXTUD5P, Win7 Ultimate x64 blah blah..

Do not do it! I just recently upgraded. My ipad 2 is super slow. All the efforts to speed it up/optimize didn’t help much. iPad 2 doesn’t have enough memory and cpu is not powerful enough to handle ios 8. Apple made bad call releasing it (or the intention was to brick old hardware so people go to stores to buy newer hardware). To make matters worse iOS 8.3 is very unstable – my ipad kept crushing very frequently – something I never saw before. Thank god I was able to revert to 8.2. I spent countless hours trying to downgrade to 7.1.2 only to learn that it’s impossible. I even went to Apple store to ask for help with downgrading but they just said what I already knew – it was impossible. Just like mdiamond58 said if I could downgrade to 7.1.2 I would do it in a heartbeat. Thank you Apple for changing my iPad into paper weight.

  • MSI 560GTX Twin Frozr II/OC Freezing up in BF3

    Hello,
I installed this card yesterday and yesterday i had no problems with it, but today, when playing BF3, about 5 minutes into the game it freezes up completely. The screen just freezes up like a screenshot, and my whole PC won't respond anymore. When playing MW3 everything is fine. No freeze-ups at all and the game is running great. Im using the 280.26 Drivers from the MSI-site. Everything else in my system is up to date. It's really annoying because I bought this card for BF3 and it runs this game great, but now I'm only allowed to play for 5 minutes before freezing..
    I'm using the following setup:
    Motherboard: P5E
