Soundbooth CS4 - transcription questions

1.  Can you transcribe a selection or do you have to transcribe the whole file?
2.  Can you input an accurate transcription and have Soundbooth align it with the audio?
Thanks.
John Shore

Ok.  I checked the source code and that error and line references a failed attempt to load the audio device due to an incorrect device ID.  I suspect that upgrading to Snow Leopard changed some audio device information that Soundbooth is still trying to use from the original 10.5 installation.
So try the following steps and let's see if they help reset everything.
1.  Open Finder, click on your username under "PLACES" then selection Library > Preferences > Adobe > Soundbooth and rename the "2.0" folder to 2.0Backup"  Launch Soundbooth.  This should force it to rebuild the preference files to their default state, and SHOULD reset any parameters to use any new values common to Snow Leopard.
2.  If #1 fails, it may be time to uninstall and reinstall Soundbooth, making certain to enable any options on uninstall to remove all preferences.  I am always hesitant to recommend this since it feels defeated and I am only too well aware of how slow the CS4 installer is, but the error you've described indicates there's just some leftover information from the previous OS X install that Soundbooth isn't able to reconcile.
Please let me know your results and we can move on from there.  In the meantime, I'll write a bug and see if one of our devs might have any suggestions should the above attempts fail to make a difference.

  • Soundbooth CS4 input question

    Help!!!
I'm trying to export audio from my analog mixer through a Canopus ADVC-110 analog to digital converter box which outputs via firewire to my MAC G5. I've tried the various hardware preference settings in Soundbooth but so far I have not been able to see any audio level readouts inside Soundbooth.
I've been able to accomplish this in Premiere CS4 so I know it can be done but I can't figure out why Soundbooth doesn't pick up the audio.
Hoping someone out there can help.
    Thanks!
    Jim

The Canopus is a Firewire video device and as such can be seen by Premiere which outputs video and audio as a combined DV file using Firewire protocol. Soundbooth can't do this as it is an audio editing program and is looking for an audio device.

  • Adobe soundbooth cs4 hangs when called from premiere cs4 in windows 7 64 bit

Whenever I try to edit a soundfile from within premiere cs4 Soundbooth starts and then hangs on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine; works fine in XP pro.

I discovered the problem only occurs once I try to open an mp3 file in Soundbooth CS4 from within Premiere CS4 and Sounddbooth is not already running.
If I open Soundbooth before I try to open an mp3 or any sound file in Soundbooth CS4 from within Premiere CS4 then there are no problems.  So the workaround is easy: start Soundbooth before I try to edit soundfiles form within Premiere.
Question: are you using 64 bit Windows 7?

  • Soundbooth CS4 - does it include Adobe Media Encoder

    Hi there,
i am especially interested in Adobe Media Encoder, to setup an encoding workstation.
My question is, if Adobe Media Encoder is bundled with Soundbooth CS4, and if it is available as a standalone program or if AME can only be opened through Soundbooth directly.
I would be happy if someone can give me an answer to this. AME doesnt seem to be available as a standalone purchase in the Adobe Store.
    Kind Regards,
    Sascha

    Hi Sascha,
Adobe Media Encoder is bundled with Soundbooth, but is only available from within Soundbooth when saving files. It is available as a stand-alone application when installed with Premiere Pro CS4, but I'm not aware of any plans to sell it as an individual product.

  • Soundbooth CS4 released!

    Hi everyone,
I wanted to let everyone know that Soundbooth CS4 has been released! We're very proud of the improvements and new features that have gone into this release, and want to thank our pre-release testers and public beta users who offered advice, suggestions, complaints, and feedback along the way.
There is a whole heck of a lot of new stuff, so I'll mention a few of the big items, and encourage everyone to download the 30-day trial when it's available in the next few days.
    * Multitrack Editing: Create unlimited tracks to layout your audio composition, add multiple music scores, synchronize to video, and more! Our integrated clip editor lets you edit your clips right from the timeline.
    * Volume keyframing: Adjust volume levels and changes to your clips quickly and easily.
    * Adobe Sound Document format: save your work in a single document, save snapshots of various states or mixes, and insert into your Premiere, After Effects, or Flash projects while still retaining the ability to make further changes in Soundbooth.
    * Automatic Volume Correction: Make all of your audio clips the same relative volume level, or equalize the volume levels of a single file.
    * Speech Transcription and Search: Our Speech Recognition engine can transcribe your audio files and save the text as metadata or in Flash Cue Point format. Quickly search for keywords and jump right to them in your audio or video.
    * Improved Scores workflow: It is now much easier to use Soundbooth Scores to add dynamic, customizable music and ambience tracks to your projects.
    * MP3 Compression Preview: No more guessing how your MP3 will sound at different compression levels. An integrated Compression Preview tool lets you sample the output at any compression level, and get the best quality at the lowest file size.
    * DynamicLink support: Now you can easily share clips with After Effects and Premiere Pro, sharing edits between applications without needing to render.
There's a lot more happening, so I hope everyone gets a chance to check it out. The free trial version should be available soon, I'll post here when it's up and ready, and I hope you enjoy Soundbooth!

Sounds like a huge step forward, Durin, with some very novel features - nice one!

  • Soundbooth CS4 Beta Install

I am having trouble getting Flash CS4 and Soundbooth CS4 to both be installed at the same time. I first installed Soundbooth, which went in smooth, followed by attempting to install Flash, which told me that I had to uninstall DynamicLink Support before I can install Flash. I did some research and found out that Soundbooth requires DynamicLink Support, so I decided to uninstall Soundbooth, then install Flash, which did not mention that it uses DynamicLink Support. Flash did however install smoothly. I then proceeded to install Soundbooth which then told me that I had to uninstall DynamicLink Support before I can install Soundbooth. What confuses me is if Soundbooth needs DynamicLink Support, then why is it having me uninstall it?
Any suggestions on how I can get them both to be installed?
    Regards,
    Mike W.
Edit: Now When I run the Soundbooth CS4 setup it is telling me that the "Session has dependencies that cannot be satisfied."

    Hi Mike,
Are you referring to the public beta release of Soundbooth CS4, or are you on the internal pre-release testing teams for these applications? While I urge you to post these questions to the pre-release forums rather than this public forum for Soundbooth CS3, I can tell you that different beta builds of the CS4 applications will definitely have incompatibilities with regards to DynamicLink support and that there were definitely periods where some applications would fail to install because another application had already installed a different build of DynamicLink.

  • Transcribing in Soundbooth CS4

I'm using Soundbooth CS4 to transcribe an audio file that is about one hour long. Unfortunately, the resulting transcript does not accurately represent the speech in the audio file. Is there a way to create a more accurate transcript?
    Thanks.

I've tried various settings and audio files, and have to conclude the transcription feature in Soundbooth CS4 is not functional.  As per the original post, if someone knows how to make it work, let us know.

  • Adobe Soundbooth CS4

I have Adobe Soundbooth CS4 running on Mac - Snow Leopard. I am thinking of upgrading the system OS to Lion or Mountain Lion, but am worried that upgrading will cause problems for Soundbooth. Can anyone confirm if SB works fine with Lion or Mountain Lion?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Soundbooth cs4/cs5 Error

Hi, i have been getting an error message whenever i try to change the audio default device to the system default device input/output. as of now it is on default input/output but i cannot hear a thing.... i use soundbooth RARELY the last time i used it was about 2 weeks ago and it was working great! today i tried using it again and this was when i discovered the issue. i get this error when i try changing the default audio:
once again i had never experienced this before till today. i have done the following to try to solve this problem:
    1) reinstalled CS4
    2) reinstalled soundbooth only
    3) googled and found this: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/461119?decorator=print&displayFullThread=true
the link i found seems to be the same problem only the solutions offered up there did not work for me.... i am running snow leopard and have been running it ever since it came out...i did not have the problem even then...why now?
i also tried what that user said to:
    1. First of all you must be connected as an administrator of the Mac.
    2. Then you have to open the preferences window for the audio hardware (Adobe->Preferences->Audio Hardware)
    3. Change the selection for Default Device (e.g. select System Default I/O)
    4. Now it should work
i got stuck on step 2 because i cannot find the audio hardware file/folder i do not have it....
    lastly i tried this : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/548571
once again i do not have those files ive searched on my macbook....
    someone help

I am having a sililar problem: Adobe Soundbooth CS4 on Macbook Pro Intel. I created a multitrack project, several aif files, several layers. Saved as an .asnd. Now double clicking it launches Soundbooth generates this error: "General error opening the file, or perhaps the file is of an unsupported version". I've tried copying and retitling the file, I've tried opening the program, then clicking <file> and <open> to open the file instead of just double-clicking on the file.
Now here's a kicker: I can open it in After Effects (no multiple layers, acts like a multitrack mixdown)
I can open it with The Unarchiver.app get all the sound files, including both edited and raw, lots of metadata files. Can import the sound files into Soundbooth but not the metadata (!?) so I'm not getting anything like a reconstruction of my original project - which I'd settle for.
I begin teaching a class that uses this software, among others, in January. I'm considering telling the kids to download Audacity and use that instead.

  • How do I convert a .cda  to  .wav in Soundbooth CS4?

I have just installed the Premiere CS4 production suite which includes Soundbooth CS4 v 2.0.1.
With earlier versions of this suite (Premiere and Audition rather than Soundbooth), I could open .CDA (music cd) files in Audition and convert them to .WAV files and then import these into Premiere.  It was a frustrating two step process, but at least it worked.
Now, with the CS4 suite, it is not letting me import any .CDA files (error message says the file format is not supported) to either Audition or Premiere.  I even tried going through Encoder, but that doesn't work either.
How in the world are we supposed to bring in music from a CD?  This should have been resolved so we don't have to go through the Soundbooth step.  But now it won't even let me do that!  Adobe sure is turning out to be very frustrating!!

The artwork in the PDF might already be a vector graphic.
If not you need to trace it either automatically or manually

  • O.O.P.S. (out-of-phase-stereo) in SoundBooth CS4?

Is it possible to turn regular / standard audio files into O.O.P.S. versions (.wav, etc.) with SoundBooth CS4? No pressing need, but O.O.P.S. versions of Beatles songs are often interesting.
I've checked the manual, Lynda.com, general Googling, with no success.
    Thanks.
    Bill

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the app, then found directions at http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/archive/index.php/t-168346.html .
Now all I need is the time to fiddle with it.

  • Soundbooth CS4 will not record files

I am having an issue with Soundbooth CS4 not recording a file. I can open the record box and select my audio source (Alesis USB mixer in this case) but when I hit record nothing records. The record button does highlight however no audio is record or wave form shows.... Ive tested the setup (Alesis USB mixer into my MacBook Pro) with Audacity and it works fine, all settings are correct with the Soundcard and with OS X.. Ive been recording into Audacity, saving, then opening in Soundbooth to do processing. While this works, I would like to get my moneys worth out of Soundbooth and do all my recording, processing, and editing in the same app. I've attached a photo of the screen for you to review...
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hmm.  So when playback is fine but record just hangs, it's often a clocking issue.  Is this device one of the MultiMix systems?  If so, what version of OS X are you running and have you updated the drivers for the device?  I know there were some problems with Alesis support on OS X 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 and they released some updated drivers on their website to address the problems.  That would be my next recommendation.
If that fails, we may want to create a custom Aggregate Device with limited inputs to troubleshoot this.  You can do this by launching "Audio MIDI Setup" (located at /Applications/Utilities/) and chooseing "Aggregate Device Editor" from the menu.  Here you can create a new device and specify only a specific set of inputs and outputs from your Alesis, choosing which one you'd like to act as the Master Clock.  After this is created, select the new device in Soundbooth's Audio Preferences and see if you get different behavior.
We do have an Alesis MultiMix 8 around here, but it's currently locked in a coworker's office who's on vacation until Monday.

  • ID3 / ID4 Tags in Soundbooth CS4?

In a July 2007 post by "Durin", Quality Engineer - Adobe Audio Applications, as part of this thread about the absence of ID3 tags in Soundbooth,
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc457de/1
Durin wrote, "Now that we've begun development on Soundbooth CS4, incorporating metadata workflows is important."
Given his statement, I was expecting to find support of MP3 and MP4 tags in Soundbooth CS4. Unfortuntaly, it doesn't seem like it's there. If I edit an MP3 or MP4 file that has tags, all of the text data and album art is lost. I find it kind of amazing that Adobe wouldn't have indluded metadata support when editing files in Soundbooth CS4. Am I missing something or is it really not there?
BTW, I realize that Bridge includes a very minimal amount of meta data support (but no album art) and even then the few ID3/ID4 tags that Bridge does support are not retained if the file is edited in Soundbooth.
If I'm right about CS4 not supporting ID3 and ID4 tags, when will Adobe add full tagging support to its products? Surely Adobe can't have missed the launch of the iPod Touch?
I hope it's me and not Adobe who is the one missing something here. In this day and age, tagging and album art / chapter art support is essential.
I bought the CS4 Master Collection and you know the price of that! Now I have to use a $20 shareware application to replace the ID3/4 tags that Soundbooth CS4 destroys. It just doesn't seem right.

  • Delayed playback in Soundbooth CS4

I'm using Soundbooth (CS4) on a Windows XP machine. Editing in single track mode is fine. I'm working on a large multitrack project with about 90 small files associated with the ASND file. Ultimatley, I'm creating a one hour radio documentary and I will be adding all my voice tracks to this mix.
When I press the space bar or click the "play" button I wait up to 5 seconds before playback actually begins. This happens even if I have just booted up my computer and I have no other applications running. I have shut down my automatic back-up to free up system resources, but the problem persists.
What should I try next? Is there some other/better way to build a large audio project?
    Thanks,
    Amy

_durin_-->I've read countless threads on this forum where your expertise in Soundbooth have helped innumerable frustrated Adobe patrons. You're a talented problem solver and I thank you for recommendations. However, those files don't exist on my computer--either visible or hidden. I've checked.
Here is how I solved my problem and regained the power of Premiere and Soundbooth CS4 for my MacBook Pro that recently had a new hard drive installed.
I went to the Apple store and inquired about some issues with permissions. The only option they could offer me was to run a Disk Utility unit on my new hard drive to check for conflicting permissions. After ten minutes of investigation, no conflicts found, and a restart I opened both Premiere and Soundbooth CS4. To my surprise I could import and playback audio and video just fine.
This was two days ago and I have yet to encounter the problem since then.
A success with a different solution to this persistent and troublesome problem.

  • DLL files not supported on soundbooth CS4

Hi there, I use soundbooth CS4 and downloaded some plugins, After the plugins are downloaded i open the downloads folder on my computer there is the plugin and a read me file. i click on the plugin and soundbooth opens. but when its done loading i get a failure notice reading that the plugin i cliked witch is a DLL file is not supported. I tryed everything to get it to work but it seems that the DLL files wont work. please help:)

    Hi Andrew,
It definitely sounds as if the installation did not complete for Premiere and Soundbooth. My first recommendation would be to run the installer again, and let it reinstall PPro and Soundbooth. (Don't worry, you shouldn't need to run through the ENTIRE installation process again. I share your unspoken pain on how long that process can take.)
If that fails, we can continue troubleshooting, though I'd highly recommend calling Technical Support as they are much better at detecting installation issues than I am able to offer here. Both applications should work exceptionally well on your system.
