Hi ,
according to me SOUNDBOOTH misses the BASIC FEATURE
that is "volume envelope" ,
I mean bezier or linear curves ( with " add points " tool to set the volume along the timeline ! )
I know there is the GAIN stuff with clicking etc...
but it's easy to use of course, ....but for beginners !
When doing some hard job , professionnal settings ,
NOTHING replaces the curves ( who said PROTOOLS ? ) ,
and the editing points , that you can change , oups sorry , ADJUST ,
and adjust , and adjust , and this with ease in - ease out transition !
Gestural and graphical editing is the future .
NB: GAIN in soundbooth is like working on a flatten image in PHOTOSHOP,
instead of having layers !
Sad to say , but that's THE reason why we didn't choose SOUNDBOOTH ...
it as having a super car with ... no wheels !
Do some upgrades and we'll change or mind for sure !

I've got to jump in and defend Soundbooth. In the interest of full disclusure I do use BOTH Audition and Soundbooth. The library I am working for produces audiobooks that are eventually distributed in a special format. The tools that came with the program used for capture and conversion to the special format are the pits when it comes to editing. We use a corps of volunteers to do the intermediate editing. many of these people had no prior experience and, for some, this was their first time using a computer.
With a little on the job training, our volunteers are doing an outstanding job editing the recorded material using Soundbooth. Yes, Audition affords more control and will do some jobs that Soundbooth cannot, but 90% of our editing work is done with Soundbooth. Audition is usually reserved for final assembly, Open for Append is so much easier than Cut 'n' Paste, and generating index tones.
As I said, we do use Audition as well, so I am not trying to say Soundbooth is the be all and end all of audio editing software, but it is very easy to learn and, with some patience, will do some very complex tasks.

Right-click (Mac Cmd-click) on another panel header such as "Tone Curve". Make sure there is a checkmark for Basic as was all other panel sections that you want displayed.

Am i missing the most basic setting for RMAN in RAC?

We've set up a 2 node RAC environment. Everything is working fine (failover,...etc).Each node can 'view' other node's archive log destination from OS level.
ie. When you type
df -hboth nodes can see each other's location of archive logs.

Apparenly, the log_archive_dest_1 parameter is different in the two instances.
Have you configured multiple Channels appropriately to connect to the two instances ?

Question: LR5, suddenly the first part of the menu of development module is missing. (Basics)

I have contacted Adobe support, they proposed to delete the preferences, but did not work, then to have a new user and try it from there. With the new user I got the complete menu, but have no access to my catalog and photo database.
Has anyone an idea how to solve the problem. ??????

Go back to your version of LR without the "Basic" menu.
Right click (or Cmd Click) on one of the other headings in the Develop Side bar (eg: "Tone Curve"). Then re-select the "Basic" box from the pop-up menu that appears.

Missing some basic functionality

I seem to be missing some basic functionality, like switching to tty1-n using Ctrl+Alt+F1-n. I can't begin to guess what this is related to, as after several installs I've never experienced that to be missing. Can anyone point me in the right directions? Thanks.

I am missing the "add objects" section from the fly out menu in Photoshop CS6. I am in the 3D workspace of Photoshop. "Scene" is highlighted and I have clicked on the little fly out menu in the upper right hand corner of that panel. The whole section that should contain, Add objects, delete objects, duplicate objects, all the way through reverse order is missing. The add lights section above and render section below it is there. I am not new to Photoshop, but I am new to the 3D section of Photoshops work space.
I do know about creating a new layer in the layers tab and merging the objects together trick. But I kind of would like for the program to work correctly as I am sure that doing it that way will cause some sort of problems later in the work process.

Photoshop says that my software is up to date. I use Photoshop daily and everything else works just fine. I have looked through this forum and there is someone else who had the same issue as me but their question was not given a solution. So that is why I choose to post it again.

I've made tests with four different 3rd party tools: OpenGL Extension Viewer, GPU Caps Viewer, Compute4Cash OpenCL Diagnostic Tool and Mudlord's Glide3x wrapper tester. All those tools report no problems with my video card driver and OpenGL/CL.
I have contacted nVidia and based on reports from the tools and visual tests from GPU Caps Viewer nVidia support doesn't see a problem with my driver.
I found sniffer_gpu.exe which according to Adobe Help pages is a kind of diagnostic tool and determines whether Photoshop uses the graphic card OpenCL or not. Here is the output:

From Adobe GPU Sniffer tool, it looks OK.
On the other hand, I have your word that there is no problem with Photoshop not recognizing OpenCL for my card and that nVidia driver has problems. Can you justify this somehow? Perhaps you could provide more details on technical level, or another utility to run and extract details, to at least identify the problem Photoshop has and hopefully solve it on either side.
P.S. During tests there were two things which I noticed, but they are probably not related to the issue:
1. One tool reports the lack of Windows registry key SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows (NT)/CurrentVersion/OpenGLDrivers. But according to your previous statement, Photoshop only uses OS calls, no registry and according to nVidia, this key is not used in Windows 7.
2. During some tests GPU Caps Viewer reports that "OpenCL CPU not supported on the selected platform". This is not complaining about GPU, only about CPU. But Photoshop is complaining about GPU, so it shouldn't be relevant.

How do I get the basic panel in the develop module to reappear in Lightroom 5?

Hello! I was editing a photo in Lightroom 5 the other day, and I thought I hit something, but all of a sudden the basic panel was missing. I went online to see how I can fix it, and what was suggested was to right click on one of the panels and it should have an option that says basic, in order to get the basic panel back. That is what I did, but what it does is just opens and closes the panels. I don't know how to get my basic panel back, I hope I can get some advice.

The trick is to right-click on one of the other panel headers, e.g. Tone Curve, and you'll see a context menu allowing you ro reselect the Basic Panel.
Alternatively, when in the Develop Module simply do Ctrl+1 (Cmd+1 on a Mac), or in the menu bar go to Window>Panels>Basic Panel.

Firefox does not display the basic menu line File Edit View etc. How do I get this menu to show. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that does not help

I'm missing a basic concept on iCal.

I'm missing a basic concept on iCal Server i think.
I just want to publish a single calendar to the public from the server, not from the local client; with NO passwords.
Calendars exist on the iCal Server on 10.8.5 using login credentials from Open Directory where users
can create calendars, share calendars, etc.
When you go to the Web site, it first asks for your login and password.
How do i link a calendar to a public location, or make a calendar publicly accessible?

So with no responses to the above question, I've had to rtfm...
It appears from my reading of the somewhat limited documentation on iCal Server on 10.8.5, since I have chosen
to apply security to the Wiki's and Calendars to use OD on the server; I cannot open a public viewable Calendar along side the secured ones. ( I may certainly be wrong, but I haven't been able to find out how.)
So I took an easier approach, as I wanted 1 public calendar viewable and subscribable by the public.
The local iCal server will be used privately for local secure business, while the Public calendar will be
maintained on the local Admin's desktop, then shared publicly to Google calendars, where I set up a simple secure acount. This gives me 4 benefits.
1. A public viewable webpage of the calendar - for those with iCal or iPhone (droid population, or browsers)
2. An dot.ics subscribable link for those with iPhones, iCal compatibe calendars
3. An embedded link for our education web site, to show the Public calendar inline on our own website.
4. The ability to publish to said Google calendar , from the locally managed desktop.
This may have been obvious, or not; and potentially othe ways of accomplishing the same,
Any thoughts or goctcha's ?

Where are the basic settings in develop module?

Since updating to lighroom 3 using a MacPro running Snow Leopard I seem to be missing all the 'basic' settings on my develop module namely exposure, white balance etc. All the other adjustment settings are there. Any idea how to fix this?

When you are in the develop module, right-click in the right-hand panel and make sure there is a checkmark next to the basic settings. If there isn't just click on basic settings. Then it will show in the panel. The different areas are designed so that you can hide any that you don't use.

When you say the Basic panel has disappeared, do you mean the whole right side panel or individual tools such as the White Balance tool is gone? If it is the whole right side panel that is missing, you may have hidden it. Using the Tab key, you can cycle between hiding and showing the side panels. You can also move your mouse over to the far right side of your screen to get the panel restored but it will disappear when you move your mouse off the panel. There is also a small triangle on the left edge of the right panel that you can right click on in order to determine the show/hide behavior (I personally use the manual mode).
Regarding the individual windows contained in the left/right panels, they can be opened and closed by clicking of the triangle that is displayed next to name of the tool in its header bar. While you can elect what modules will be shown on the LR Top panel, I am not aware of any mechanism to completely hide individual tools in the left/right panels. If all else failes, you can hit the Shift/Tab key combo a few times to restore all of your windows the the default behavior.

Sub picture highlight - missing the big picture

Windows 7 64-bit, Photoshop and Encore CS5, everything patched
I have been banging around on this for days, off and on, and I'm sure I must be missing something obvious. I created a menu in Photoshop but even if I use a built-in Encore menu (like Sunset), I cannot figure out how highlighting is supposed to work. Everything I try causes Encore to display both (=1) and (=2) layers at the same time, or nothing.
To make it as simple as possible.... Assumption is that the menu is already part of the Encore project so, from Encore, select the menu and edit it in Photoshop.
a) In Photoshop, I have a layer group named (+)PlayAll. Under it I have a text layer whose name is, not surprisingly, Play All.
b) Create (=1)highlight layer on top of the Play All text layer.
c) In (=1) layer, select the line tool and draw a line segment 3px high, I chose white.
d) Create (=2)highlight layer on top of (=1).
e) In that layer, draw a second line segment slightly above the first, same color and height.
f) Make sure the (=1) and (=2) layers' visibility is off.
g) Save the menu in Photoshop, close the menu.
In Encore:
a) Menu > Edit Menu Color Set is unavailable.
b) Menus tab page, Properties > Basic for the button, the Highlight list is unavailable.
c) In the Menu pane in the middle, if I click Show Normal Picture Subpicture Highlight, the button is not visible. If I click Show Selected Subpicture Highlight, both line segments are visible. If I click Show Activated Subpicture Highlight, both line segments are visible.
d) If I preview the menu in Encore, only (=1) line segment displays. Selecting that menu option does not cause the other segment to display.
I have tried the same thing with:
a) The Sunset menu
b) Circles placed on top of each other instead of offset line segments
Same results. I am missing something basic along the way.

I'm in CS4 at the moment. Help clearly says you can select the menu in the project or menu panels. Menu -> Menu Color Set is greyed out. In other words, I agree this is not operating properly.
But you do not have to select one of the state buttons; just select the menu in the Menu Viewer, and you can then access Menu Color Set.
I have confirmed this in CS5 also; I added the following commebnt in the CS5 help file for "Menu Color Sets":
To edit the menu color set, you must open the menu (which means to open it in the Menu Viewer) or, if open, select it in the menu viewer. "Define a menu color set" above describes this correctly. "Base a new color set ..." says to select the menu in the project or menu panels. This does not work; "edit menu color set" in greyed out under those conditions.

Missing new Basic sliders and more...

Very weird problem- I'm missing several of the new features in my LR4 Beta. They show briefly and then revert to the old sliders. The Develop module has the old (LR3) Basic sliders (E,R,F,B)- BUT when I launch LRb4 into the Develop module you can see the new sliders (H,S,W.B) for about 2 seconds and then it reverts to the old ones.
I'm also missing the new selective WB- the old (LR3) adjustment brush sliders are there. Also missing soft proofing the Print module. There may be others as well but this is what I've noticed so far.
FWIW The Map and Book modules are there.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Core i5. I quit all apps and restarted before installing. Have tried trashing prefs files (the 2 .plist files) and restarting.
Any suggestions and advice appreciated.

Thought I understood automator but I must be missing some basic understanding. I want select several audio (mp3 stereo) files and get automator to convert them to mono aiff files. I know how to do this in soundtrack pro, and I looked under actions, library, music; but could not find a way to get them to be mono in automator. Suggestions?
