Soundcard for server 2008 64

Hello we have a server that doesnt come with a sound card, unfortunitly the video conversion software we brought needs a sound card installed to function correctly.
?I am trying to track down a sound card that supports windows server 2008 64bit but cant find anything.
Is there a creative card that will ? perhaps the vista 64bit drivers will work ?

I was checking out drivers for the Officejet 8500 A910 a few weeks ago and there was a driver for Server 2008 and not Server 2003.  That was ok because we were migrating to server 2008 R2.  Tried to download driver today and now there is not driver for server period.

  • Logical disk free space counters missing for server 2008 r2 and 2012 r2

I'm trying to get low disk space alerts for server 2008R2 and 2012 R2.  While the monitors exist for 2008 and 2012 (Not-R2), they are missign for all R2 operating systems.  Any idea how to either obtain these monitors, or create them so I can
get alerts for % disk free alerts?

What is your meaning of " monitors exist for 2008 and 2012 (Not-R2), they are missing for all R2 operating systems."? Does it means that the monitor is missing on all Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2 machine or it just a blank circle ?
By default, Windows XXX Logical disk Free Space monitor is enable for all windows XXX. You may check whether an override to disable it. Moreover, Windows Server XXXX Logical Disk Free Space (%) Low and Windows Server 2008 Logical Disk Free Space (MB) Low
is disable by default and you should manually enable it.

  • CUCM and Unity LDAP Support for Server 2008 R2

    Hi,
The directory hierachy for a backup taken using windows server backup will be something like this:
\WindowsImageBackup\<ServerName>\<Backup datetime>\<guid name>.vhd file along with some xml config files.
The directory heirachy above suggests the backup was not taken using Windows Server Backup, at least directly, if it is taken using some software scripted over windows server backup, the .chm file may belong to that software.
The .vhd file created by windows server backup is not mountable in readonly mode, it is mountable in readwrite mode only.

  • Management Pack for Server 2008 OS Monitoring version 6.0.7296 cannot be installed or downloaded from the catalog

In our newly installed Operations Manager I'm trying to install the MP's for monitoring Windows Server 2008 OS through the catalog option. Every attempt (including downloading it through the OpsMgr console) fails with the following error:
Windows Server 2008 Operating System (Monitoring) did not pass the security verification.
The management pack cannot be downloaded and the temporary file has been deleted.
Could not load management pack [ID=Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.Monitoring, Keytoken=31bf3856ad364e35, Version=6.0.7296].
This includes the required packs: "Windows Server Operating System Library v6.0.7296" and "Windows Server 2008 Operating System (Discovery) v6.0.7296".
The only option I found was downloading it directly from the website http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9296 but I'm a bit anxious if it can't be downloaded from the catalog. Is this pack revoked? Or could there be something wrong
in our environment that prevents us from downloading it from the catalog?

I have the exact same issue - and when I select to download from the catalog, I get an error that the security certificate cannot be verified. I checked it, and it is valid till 2016, so I selected continue and then it works normally. however I do get the
    same list of errors.
The normal "manual" download is available, and if it was pulled by MS, they would block the download button there too ?
I downloaded the MP manually and installed it without any issues. same for the sharepoint 2010 MP 14.0.7135.5000 mp. installing via the catalog failed while the manual download was available and works OK.
(and the weird thing is - I downloaded / installed a few other updates via the catalog fine....)

Does it really support windows 7 but not server 2008 SP2??
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes, Windows Server 2008 SP2 is supported on Exchange Server 2010 SP3. Windows 7 SP1 is only supported for Exchange management tools, not for Exchange server.
Hope my clarification can be helpful to you.

  • IPsec default exemptions for Server 2008 R2

    Hello Everyone,
    We are using IPsec in our domain environment all servers are windows server 2003 and 2003 R2. Now we are upgrading to server 2008 R2. With Windows server 2003 and 2003 R2 we used exempt some traffic from IPsec now with Windows Server 2008 R2 we are having problem to exempt this traffic.  With 2003 we were changing registry key;
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSEC
    and changing the value;
    NoDefaultExempt 0
With Server 2008 R2 we could not figure out to set this settings.
Can anybody have any idea how to do that?
    Thank you,
    Any input greatly appreciated.

  • DHCP Superscope for Server 2008 R2 Standard

I am running out of IP Addresses in my network, and would  like to create a superscope to resolve this issue.
I know the basic steps after reading Article ID: 255999  :
Add secondary IP addresses to the current router interfaces.
Create a new DHCP scope for the new logical subnet.
Create a superscope and add the old and new DHCP scopes as children.
i have a couple questions about this :
    1. since we have switches can i apply the IP Addreses to the VLAN of the switch? I know that the VLANS support more than one IP ADdress
    2. I have a second scope on the DHCP Server already for our IP Phones - how would this be handeld? Should i import this into the superscope or just leave it alone as is?
    thanks in advance,
    vramch

Eve, thank you for the reply that article was most informative. I supposed i should have said that currently our network has only two VLANS - one for DATA and one for VOICE.
I was thinking of adding a second IP for the DATA VLAN, and using that IP as the gateway of the second scope.
    Current Setup :
    Subnet - 10.10.10.0/24
    DATA VLAN : 10.10.10.4
    GW : 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server : 10.10.10.15 - assigns 10.10.10.50-10.10.10.254 GW 10.10.10.1
what i was thinking of doing was adding a second scope :
    New SCOPE : 10.10.88.0 / 22
adding the secondary IP to DATA VLAN 10.10.88.4 255.255.252.0
DHCP Server 10.10.88.15 255.255.252.0 (added second IP to existing DHCP Server 10.10.10.15) create a superscope with the existing DHCP Scope and a new scope which would then assign 10.10.88.50 - 10.10.91.254 255.255.252.0 & GW 10.10.88.4.
i just realized my switches are layer two - this may not work then?
Patrick - i wish it would have been that easy, but the subnet's above and below the existing one are in use on other networks, so i simply can't expand the range that easily. I have to go well out of the subnet range for a free block of IP's
thank you both for the suggestions and assistance.

  • Windows 8.1 TPM ownership on Server 2008 R2 schema - not to spec?

My organization is running AD DS on Server 2008 R2 schema. Already a bad start, I know, but let's pretend that's impossible to change. In our default domain policy, we have the following setting
enabled to require AD backup of TPM owner authorization value hashes:
Computer Settings\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Trusted Platform Module Services\Turn on TPM backup to Active Directory Domain Services
As a result, when I try to encrypt an AD-bound Windows 8 Enterprise machine with BitLocker, it fails because Windows 8 tries to store the TPM authorization hash as a
child object (with type ms-TPM-OwnershipInformation) of the computer object, while the Server 2008 R2 schema requires storing this information as an
attribute (specifically, msTPM-OwnerInformation) of the computer object. This is perfectly fine and dandy - in fact, it's clearly documented in a TechNet article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj131725.aspx#BKMK_AuthValue)
that this behavior is intentional, and the solution is to update to Server 2012 schema. Cool.
The bit that concerns me is that when I try to encrypt an AD-bound Windows 8.1 Enterprise machine, it succeeds under these same circumstances. However, despite the policy setting requiring the TPM backup, it simply doesn't occur - it is neither stored in
the computer attribute, nor is it created as a child object to the computer.
I have not been able to find any documentation that would indicate that Windows 8.1 behaves differently from Windows 8 on this matter. As the mainstream support end date for Server 2008 R2 is not until 01/13/14, I wouldn't expect that Microsoft has intentionally
implemented what I have described. Might this then be an unintended behavior?

    Hi,
I made a deep research about this problem today. Here is some new updates below:
    According to the library:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd875529(v=ws.10).aspx
You should also configure AD DS before configuring BitLocker on client computers. If BitLocker is enabled first, recovery information for those computers will not be automatically added to AD DS.  If necessary, recovery information
can be backed up to AD DS after BitLocker has been enabled by using either the Manage-bde command-line tool or the BitLocker Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider.
That's to say, If you never initialize the TPM of Windows 8 before, but Windows 8.1 machine did. When you use TPM first time in Domain Environment, the Windows 8 machine may encounter the problem like initialization failed, but Windows 8.1 would works properly.
    To verify our inference, you can try to run the command like manage-bde -protectors -adbackup c: -id {xxxx,xxxx,xxxx,xxxxx}
at Windows 8.1 to backup Recovery information to AD to check if it works fine.
Here is another blog which further talking about how to backup recovery information in AD after BitLocker is turned ON in Windows 7. I guess this article would be helpful with your problem:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/04/06/how-to-backup-recovery-information-in-ad-after-bitlocker-is-turned-on-in-windows-7.aspx
In addition, We need to know that TPM recovery information is backed up when you:
    1. Set the TPM owner password during TPM initialization.
    2. Change the TPM owner password.
Therefore, please check your situation if it similar with the pheonmenon above, if not, please feel free let us know.

  • 880GM-E41 and Server 2008 / Windows Home Server 2011

I am building a WHS 2011 machine (which is based on Server 2008) and am considering the 880GM-E41 mainboard.  However when I go to the product website:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/880GM-E41.html
I don't see drivers listed for Server 2008.  Specifically, there are chipset, audio, raid (etc) drivers listed for Windows 7 64-bit, but nothing for Windows Server 2008.  However in the past I have experienced mainboards which 'just work' regardless of the drivers that are downloadable.  My question is... before I purchase this mainboard, does anybody know if the motherboard works on Windows Server 2008?  Or which devices/features will not work?
I actually don't require the RAID drivers to work since I won't be using hardware raid, but I will need the system, chipset, and audio drivers working (whether they get pulled from Windows Update or downloaded from MSI).
    Thanks!

WHS 2011 is built on the Windows Server 2008 R2 code base, which is built on Windows NT 6.1, the same core operating system used with the end-user oriented Windows 7.  So basically, you need to use Windows 7 64bit drivers and everything will be fine.

  • RAID Virtual Volumes Server 2008 R2 (Dell H200)

    Hi all,
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I am deploying a Dell R410 server with a Dell PERC H200 Controller with 4 X 300GB SAS Drives in two RAID1 arrays. I have loaded Server 2008 R2 onto the first volume. Unfortunately when I open Disc Manager the second volume is not displayed at all. However in
"Dell's Open Manage Server Administrator" both Virtual disks are displayed, also while posting after the controller has initialized both arrays show up. I attempted to remove the disks in the functional array and booting with the Installation media, to my
dismay the second volume could not be detected by the Windows setup which leads me to believe it is Hardware related.
I have contacted dell support today and according to them it is OS related, unfortunately the channel I purchased the server through did not have stock of the Dell OEM Server Standard 2008 R2, thus I was forced to acquire the package via a DSP channel and as
such I am not entitled to Dell Support on the Software (won’t make that mistake again...). However the representative I spoke too did make the effort to consult the Software support team and they informed him that this is a known issue and referred me
    to the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457110.aspx
Now I am either thick and can’t read or these support guys have it wrong. This article is about basic usage of Disk manager however it has no information on a virtual volume not showing up in Disc Manager... So I can only conclude that they believe I
am an idiot and cannot use Disk Manager to initialize the disk, even though I made it clear that there is no volume to initialize in the first place.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am going out of town for a day or two and will only be able to check back on Monday, so if any feedback is required from me I will reply ASAP.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Thick sculled Disk Manager user.

I had this problem to the point and I have resolved it.  The Dell support rep stated that the PERC H200 drive was designed for "Dell" proprietary drives only and that they have released a firmware version in May or June of 2011 that resolves this:
    Component              Version                  Previous Version
    Package               07.02.42.00               07.01.33.00
    MPT Firmware       02.15.04.00                02.15.63.00
    SASBIOS                7.11.01.00                7.01.09.00
    SASFLASH               7.00.00.00               2.00.00.01
    UEFI BSD                7.00.01.00               2.00.01.09
    NVDATA                  version 17                00.0A.00.15
Make sure the firmware version is the updated version.
Also, there is an updated driver for Server 2008 R2 that is different than the driver for Server 2008 x64 or x32.  Make sure that it is the following version:
    FILE NAME: R294479
Device Driver for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
    Version 2.0.35.10
There are README's included that give full instructions for Windows Installation.
With these two components, your drives will be recognized by Server 2008 R2.  I hope this helps you or anyone else with this problem.

  • Windows Server 2008 sp2 Task Scheduler missing next run time after restart

    Hi,
I have the issue that there does not appear to be a fix for with a server 2008 sp2 (NOT R2) where after a restart all tasks are missing the next run time so I need to edit each task to add this time back in. I have tried  the hotfix in KB 950035
but this when you run it is only for Vista and cannot be installed despite saying it's also for Server 2008.
For some reason also this is Task Scheduler version 1 not 2 which I thought came with windows since Vista so SP2 should have it.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Hi Evans,
Would you please let us know current situation of this issue?
As Dave mentioned, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 include all the previously released updates for Windows
    Server 2008.
Based on your description, I understand that all scheduled tasks still miss the next run time on your Windows
Server SP2 when the server restart. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
On current situation, please open Properties of one problematic scheduled task, navigate to History tab, then
check if find some relevant events or errors. Those may help us to go further analyze.
If any update, please feel free to let us know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Server 2008 R2 - Metafile Cache Memory Consumption...

This question is related to posting
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/7b49424d-08c1-4fc4-bc9a-3569ab978efe, the final comment in the thread reading:
"I ended up opening a ticket with Microsoft.  It was indeed the exact same problem as people were having with Server 2008, which Microsoft was kind enough to provide a publicly available fix, but, for unknown reasons, have not provided for Server 2008
R2.  They provided me with the DynCache fix, which allowed me to set a limit on how much memory was used.
    Problem solved!
They even ended up charging me $100 for the fix, despite the fact that if the issue is Microsoft's, there is supposed to be no charge.  I was going to dispute it but it got lost in the shuffle.
So, open a ticket with MS and they should provide you with DynCache, just don't let them charge you for it.  Releasing a product then charging extra to make it work correctly is called a racket in my business...
    Hope that helps"
I'm having the exact same issue with one of our production servers. I done the troubleshooting and I know that this is the problem. The simple question is, can I obtain dyncache for 2008 R2 without going to the trouble of opening a ticket, handing over my
credit card information and then arguing about whatever it is that they want to charge me.
    Thanks in advance!
Lou Laczo, IT Manager, Conterra LLC

    Word up folks.
I have had success using SetSystemFileCacheSize to tame 2008 R2 memory management.
    -Copy SetSystemFileCacheSize.exe & EmptyStandbyList.exe to C:\Windows\System32\
-Create simple batch file to execute  SetSystemFileCacheSize.exe flush & EmptyStandbyList.exe
-Create a Task to run the batch file as often as needed.
For our environment, running this Task once a day after our nightly backup routines is sufficient.
Hell, I suppose I could add these lines to the end of my backup scripts. Hmmm... Will have to test this.

Another Person Suggested:  Win7 64-bit with Oracle 11g. Oddly enough, it ran differently when I opened a command prompt window as administrator and ran setup.exe with the suggested command-line options:
setup.exe -debug -printtime -printmemory -printdiskusage -logLevel finest
While it had previously been failed both by running setup from the Explorer windows as administrator and by running it from the command line as administrator - it died every time at the same point mentioned by others in this thread - just after this message appeared in the log:
    Get view named [SummaryUI]
( I have tried re installing with no success)

    Windows 7 Enterprise 32-Bit
Installed the version 12 for 32 bit ODAC and it worked. The key is to Install as Administrator once it is unzipped.
Was able to set up Listener then
Was able to set up ODBC using the ODAC. Connect MS Access 2010 to the Oracle views.
Then, tried to install the 64 Bit onto Windows 2008 Server.
It locked up during installation both times.
    Installed ODAC without an error.
However, the ODBC setup will not provide a list of the servers in the ODBC  TNS Service Name listbox for Server 2008.
In Windows 7, it populates the TNS Service Name.
The list box in Windows 2008 is empty.
Do you know what would cause that?
The .ORA file scrips look the same on Windows 2008 as they do on Windows 7 except it does not have the (server = Dedicated) argument.
    Thanks.
