Soundfonts & DLS Music Device

After a particularly nasty system crash - and subsequent re-install of Mac OS (10.3) from CD after a failed backup restore - I can no longer use downloaded soundfont via DLS Music Device.
It was downloaded so long ago; a search for .Sf2 extentions shows them throughout my system (Previous System Folder / HD -> Library / User -> Library), etc.
For clarification, where is their proper location? Any ideas/ tips on why I lost this functionality in GB after a crash and re-install?
Thanks!

  • DLS Music device

When I use GarageBand, I use Apple's DLS Music Device to access soundfonts and MIDI libraries.
When I select a MIDI Library through this device, it appears that there is no way to select an instrument from within the selected library.
To get around this, I use a MIDI keyboard with a program select dial.
Unfortunately, it doesn't let me go past program #199.
I've tried using my other MIDI keyboard with the number keys to access programs as well, and it won't let me do it either.
There are a whole bunch of instrument sounds in the QuickTime Musical Instruments library that I cannot access as a result of this, and it's also preventing me from using a lot of important sounds in my other MIDI libraries.
Also it won't let me use the drum kits in the QuickTime Musical Instruments library.
Is there any way for me to access these sounds from GarageBand?

See my answer in the other thread you started.

  • DLS music service wont allow me to change banks

I am trying to change my sound in the edit window of the DLS music service in garage band for using sound fonts, and for some reason the menu for changing sound banks from the default (quick time synthesizer) is "greyed out" and unavailable. if any one know what I'm doing wrong, please help. I have already load a few sf2 files into my Library/audio/sounds/bank folder, so I dont know what else to do. are sf2 files not compatible?

Some sound fonts simply do not work for some reason or other but it is unlikely that you have gotten a whole batch that doesn't work. Have you used these soundfonts before?
It is more likely that you put them in the wrong path.
    Don't put them in
    Macintosh HD>Library>Audio>Sounds>Banks.
Put them in the User path instead.
    Macintosh HD>Users>User Name>Library>Audio>Sounds>Banks.
Try putting them in this path and see if they work. Thats where I keep 247 of my sound fonts.

Yes, of course it is legal.
To convert the format, follow one of these documents:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Save a copy of a song in a new file format
iTunes 11 for Mac: Save a copy of a song in a new file format
Also note that you have the option of buying your files in MP3 format in the first place, from Amazon MP3 or other online retailers.  MP3 files will work in iTunes as well as virtually every other player, program, and device.

  • DLS midi device in Logic

    Hi there!
Is there any way that I can use my DLS midi device in Logic? I have a brand new macbook 2GHZ, 2GB ram, and when I use Logic there aren't almost any orchestral instruments, aside from flute, trumpet, strings and litle else. I've searched on the list of instruments, and while there are a few hundred sounds (synths, electric guitars, basses, etc.) I can't find virtually anything orchestral. The DLS device has all the orchestral instruments I need, so there must be a way of using those sounds in Logic.
This must be very basic, but I'm new to Logic...
    Thanks for any help,
    Pedro

All good - updated GT100 firmware (http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=GT%2D100&id=63080713), it was recognised as both an audio and MIDI input immediately after.

  • Music Device Not Working

Why isn't some of my music working on my device? The screen turns grey with an unknown album then goes to the next song or tries to play the mucus but it isn't helpful. Can someone help me please.

Bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.

  • BBM Music device switch....

Hello All, i recently switched from a 9780 to a 9800, but after a month decided the old 9780 was a better fit for me. Only problem is BBM music give me an error saying i've used up all my 5 device switches, which is weird, cause i only swithed to the one device and back again. Is there any way tor reset this? Would love to have BBM music working on my 9780 again, obivously i don't see the point of paying $5  a month on something i can't use....
    Thanks for any help!

I had the same thing just recently - I switched to a 9790 from the 9800, but it used up 3 device switches so it only says I have 2 left.  Going to tweet @blackberry to see if they can help/fix.

  • Windows 7 X301 Music Device Drivers Issue

I am having issues with 3 Devices. they are all Akai items (LPD8, LPK25, MPK25).
The items work perfectly on 6 other win7 machines - install with no issues. The X301 is the only problem child. These devices use generic drivers - there are no specific drivers for them. on the machines that work the following drivers are used:
    dmk.sys
    ksthunk.sys
    portcls.sys
    usbaudio.sys
    sysfxui.dll
    wmalfxgfxdsp.dll
somhow this won;t work on the OS on the lenovo. 'driving' me nuts.
    ideas?

one more detail on the dirvers themselves.
This items are all using the generic 'USB Audio Device' Driver - so please don't say - go to the manufacturer's site :-)
this driver seems completely unavailable on this one machine - even though all the supporting files are there. In addtion, it can't seem to get it from Windows update.
    Completely Bizzarre...

How do I connect more than one Bluetooth enabled music player (subwoofer and Jambox) to my iPad at the same time?

You could start by posting onto an iPod forum instead of a "Using iPad" forum.

  • Personal music device recommendations.

I am looking to pick up an mp3 player or some similar device. I have heard people have trouble with ipods, and them not working smashingly with linux.
What do other Archers use? Any recommendations?
I would prefer something that uses an open format like mp3 or ogg, so I can easily move files from box to box without having to deal with shit drm and such.
A small form factor and fairly long batter life would be good too.
    Many thanks.

aac i think. I know that format, but I didn't know ipods supported mp3 easily, or well..good to know. if anyone has info about how well ipods work, or info about getting them to work, with linux, that would be appreciated too..
and any other players out there.
I have an ipod (4G).  I also provide the gtkpod package in the community repo.  I can say they work beautifully.
Under linux, it's really easy to mess with: I setup mine on windows (you can buy this as a default), which mean's it's a vfat drive.  Getting it to work under linux was as simple as: adding the mount rules, installing gtkpod, and clicking "let gtkpod control mounting and unmounting of this device" - bam, done!
As it stands now, I don't know if I'd recommend an ipod anymore, but I haven't tried anything else (mines 40 gigs, so I have no compliants).  They scratch *really* easy, but otherwise are very nice.
Oh, and as a plus, you can read text files on it, keep contacts (gtkpod will convert them from a bunch of other formats), and even play games.
PS The current gtkpod doesn't support AAC, because who uses that format (it's also a bitch of a dependancy) - if it's important that AAC support be included, let me know.  And no, ipods cannot play oggs - I had to convert my entire library 8(

How do we have a central place (iMac/icloud) for out vast music collection and then play it on decent speakers through out our house? We currently have an iMac, macbook pro and 2 iPhones. can anyone advise.
We want to be able to choose the music from downstairs, and store the collection on Icloud or on an Imac which has a very empty hard drive as all info is stored on a dropbox account.
Can anyone recommend which speakers and how it works??

Using an old broken iphone 3rd generation at the office.. broken face and back, no SIM card to run itunes and spotify through the stereo using wifi.
Decided to update the spotify application (thus, the phone) and plugged in to restore the phone settings.  Apple upgraded the phones operating system, and now I have NO access to the phone ... in set up it requires a SIM card.
How do I bypass this so I can return to listening to music? To update the spotify app?  I need this as an itouch and it's not offering me the option....

You cannot activate without a sim.
You need a sim in the iPhone to activate it after the
update. The sim does not need to be associated with an active
account; but if the iPhone is locked to a wireless provider, the sim
needs to be from that wireless provider.
