Sounds cards that allow passthru to SP

Running VISTA RTM - I have a Li've!24 and have installed the latest beta drivers. All I want to do is pass AC3/DTS thru to the SPDIF so my receiver can decode. This is not working, so I quess the drivers are not ready. Can I get AC3/DTS pass thru to SPDIF on ANY sound card that creative sells today? If so what models. I'll buy it IF it works!!! Features are not important, (I'm not a gamer) All I want is to watch DVD's with the sound being decoded by my receiver via SPDIF?ThanksNotTheOne

Ok, I quess I wasn't clear. I can get VISTA to output sound to the SPDIF with any of the motherboards or sound cards I listed. However, VISTA is down converting everything to 2 channel PCM first. It is not doing a straight pass-thru of AC3 or DTS. See post by Profundido http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=36034?his third point, and see the discussion on the subject on the AC3filter site. http://ac3filter.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=0. It takes special driver support for "passthru" to work. NotTheOne

  • HELP....need a good sound card that works with Windows 7 64 bit

I've searched the internet and I'm seeing that folks are struggling with getting sound cards to work with Windows 7 (particularly the 64 bit systems). I know there are stability issues with the 64 bit system but I'm looking to install a decent sound card to improve stereo sound from my HP Pavilion (h8-1260t). The onboard sound is OK, but I'm looking for higher fidelity and the shortcomings of the stock sound chip is noticeable when played through my hi fi system.  Don't really need 'surround sound' (I'm not a gamer) but I'm assuming any card that comes with this feature will also produce a quality stereo signal.  I also like to archive music from steaming sources and have found a significant loss of sound quality once the track is saved.  I'm assuming a good sound card will help with this.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Spauld, welcome to the forum.
I suggest finding a sound card that you like and contacting the manufacturer's Customer Service to assure its compatibility with Win7 64-bit.  They are the experts on their products.  While I am not a fan of dedicated sound cards because their drivers are conflict prone, I would buy a Creative Soundblaster.  They have been proven over time.

  • Will FCP X and QT will output audio thru any sound card that the Mac recognizes?

I watch FCP X video on my Mac Pro video monitor.
I want to output the audio thru a sound card to my audio monitor controller. My new digital audio monitor controller connects USB to the Mac, and USB is not an output option with FCP X. So, I need another audio path.
I have previously used a Pro Tools HD Native card for sending FCP X audio out, and this works fine.
I assume that any other sound card that works in the Mac (i.e., compatible and selectible in Mac Pro Sound Preferences) would work with FCP X, but I am just checking to be sure this is right before I buy something.
I am aware of potential sync issues, so I would use only a low latency sound card. The Pro Tools card, for instance, had very low latency and worked fine.

    OK, forget it.
I can just use the Mac Pro optical digital out.  Doh.
Some days the brain just won't lock into gear.

  • List of creative sound cards that support 5.1 ,older and new

Title says it all as I'm looking to purchase(new or used) creative 5. sound card. I'm unsure as to what older models support 5.,it's for a friend and I want to make sure he gets the right one.Li've,Audigy or other?I don't need one with all the bells and whistles just one that supports 5.. Thanks.

    I'm afraid 11b is affected.
    I have a D-Link DSL 604+ router, which is 11b only.
Wireless is very slow, I noticed it right away. I get the sawtooth readout in activity monitor's network section.
Also, after putting the iMac to sleep it cannot find my wifi network upon waking. I have to restart the system before it'll connect to my wifi network again.

  • Can i get a sound card that doesn't crackle or distort for gami

Hi. I have been thinking about getting a soundcard basically for gaming (battlefield 2 & battle for middle earth 2). What I want to get out of it is to maybe take some of the load off my system by getting a sound card to take care of sound tasks giving a slight boost to game performance while at the same time improving sound quality. I would use the card for only mp3s, games, and dvd movies.
I was looking at an x-fi xtreme music and did research and saw this thread about crackling which scared me. Basically if I got a card that crackled it would be considered a bad move no matter what the other advantages. I want a card with absolutely no crackles and that is priority number . Should I get a Audigy2 ZS then instead or will it crackle too? The price difference doesn't play a factor (looking at the $00 range) I just want great stability with no distortions and slight boosts to sound quality and system performance. What should I get? My specs are below.
    Leadtech WinFast A400 Series 6800 gig (2 x 52) ram DDR550W power supplyasus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo

looking at the threads in this forum, one may get the impression that there's a lot of problems with x-fi cards. that's of course an illusion, this forum simply attracts the people with problems. i personaly know of at least 2 friends or relati'ves with a x-fi, no one, me included, has problems. of course there's no guarantee, so if you want to be on the secure side, buy your card somewhere which grants you the right to exchange it...

  • External sound cards that work with the

Does any one know if creative have any or know of any.
    Thanks

    Hehe, maybe.
Well, whichever it is I strongly insist that Creative starts working on Macintosh drivers and that Apple makes Creative products available for their computers. It is really not fair that only PC notebooks have the best audio available, if I could I would buy another external card for my PowerBook, but unfortunetly there are none in my country that are Mac compatible. Most people don't care about the sound on their laptop, but I do and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
    So please, anyone... out there...
...start working on some drivers for Creative cards (both external and PCMCIA), I'm sure that Apple users will appreciate it.
My hope won't die, I believe in Creative.

  • Added sound card, no onboard audio no more

i added an sb live value for the use of the joystick port only, not wanting to use ti as a sound card. the onboard audio of my 865pe neo2 fis2r msi 6728 no longer works. so how can i get back my onboard audio? my speakers are still plugged into the onboard. is this even posible? to use onboard audio, but use my joystick on the sb live card when playing games? or is it only one or the other? do i need to go into the bios maybe and tell it to use onboard audio? like maybe it changed cus of the new sb live value card?
ok, i hooked up my speakers to the sb live card, it's fine i guess , but is it possible to use onboard audio with joystick port only from the live card? or because i have a sound card installed now, does that totally disable onboard completely unless i removed the live card?

Yep No is the Answer, Because as soon as Windows Sees that you have a PCI sound card, it will not allow the Onboard sound chips Drivers to Load upon Bootup, I cant believe that you went through the Trouble of Installing a Sound Card that has a "MIDI" port, Instead of just Getting a USB Joystick , as the New USB Joysticks are Much more Responsive and Support Many More Games, and You can Get one For Less $ then you Paid for the Soundblaster .....Sean REILLY875

  • Is there a sound card capable of receiving PS3 sound and output it to my PC 7.1 speakers

I don't necessarily want the analog output from the sound card. If it would be easier to output the sound through the motherboard, than so be it. But at the very least, a sound card is needed for the optical input.
I emailed Creative about this and this is what they responded with:
I understand that you would like to know if there is a Creative Sound Card that can decode digital signal from the Playstation 3 via toslink and redirect it out to your surround sound system via analog.
David, please note that Creative Sound Card cannot decode signal from an AC3 or Compress sound from a source such as Playstation 3.
Since, for a setup that involves digital connections such as from Playstation 3, the decoding is done by the "AV Recei'ver" instead of the soundcard. Therefore, if you are trying to obtain surround sound for a stereo source file, you will need to use the upmix feature on your receiver such as Dolby ProLogic II, Dolby ProLogic or DTS Neo: 6 to obtain a virtual surround sound.
It is recommended to connect the Playstation 3 digital output (optical) to an AV receiver and then output it via AV receiver speakers. The decoding will be done on the Playstation 3. By design, our latest Creative Sound Card currently do not have decoding options."
I understood very little of this message, but it basically told me that it's impossible to connect a PS3 to PC speakers (at least with anything from Creative). I highly doubt this is true. At the very least, there must be other manufacturers that can achieve this. Since my speakers aren't that great, I don't even care about sound quality. All I want it surround sound. As mentioned before, even if the PS3 went into the sound card via optical, but came out of my motherboard's sound, that would be fine. I don't need it to input and output from the same sound card.
So if anyone has successfully achieved this, please post what sound card you're using and what configuration you have. Thank you

Okay, I did my best searching and I couldn't find anything that matched all your descriptors. I did do a search on both decoder numbers. SB0256 returned very little results, but with SB0466, I was able to find this ebay listing:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6_fvi%3D&_rdc=
This card isn't a Champion like you suggested. And with my complete lack of knowledge, I don't know what I/O dri've bay means. But since it is PCI and the decoder matches the number you gave me, this card should be adequete, right?
Whether it works or not, my search indicated it might be very hard for me to find that card (or any PCI card for that matter). Everything I saw was out of stock. I know this is a forum for Creative, but are there any other manufacturers that will allow me to accomplish my goal, either with current cards, or discontinued cards? Thanks again
Oh, and I will vote on that thread. I probably won't wait for them to release the decoder since I need it now, but I still believe Creative should be giving the customer what they want

  • INstalling new sound card on HP Pavilion a1029_uk

    Hi
Due to the issues raised in my other thread
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-PC-Sound-and-Audio/Suddenly-no-sound/td-p/607655
I've gone and bought separate sound card (not from HP admittedly) but can't get it to install as the install software keeps crashing.
Could it be that I've not totally got rid of the on board motherboard sound chips (that no longer work) are somehow interfering in the process.
I've tried to do the install both with the and without disabling the on board audio in the BIOS settings (turning this off does seem to remove everything including Sound Manager, volume control etc) but it makes no difference.
Do I need to leave this one but remove sound manager and the device drivers manually and if so, how do I do this as Sound Manager isn't included in the "Add / Remove Software" list.
So the question is: Is it possible to totally remove all systems access to the on board sound set, so I can use a PCI sound card instead.
    Technical stuff.

Trying to install Sweex SC002 5.1 PCI Sound Card
    http://www.sweex.com/en/assortiment/sound-vision/sound-cards/SC002/

Just to let everyone know I've solved this one.
It seems part of the new sound cards that hooks around the back of the PC to hold it in place is slightly too short, and/or the wrong shape, so when you put on the plate on my HP Pavillion that holds all the PCI cards in place, this pulls the soundcard slightly out of it's slot, up at the opposite end with the smaller pins so although the computer can detect there's a PCI card there, it can't tell what it is.
If I leave this plate off, and allow the hook around part to hang free, the card works.

  • MIDI - problems with output sound / sound card problem?

Hi. Not sure if this is the right place to put this question, but anyway:
I bought the notation program Sibelius 4, which allows you to write notation and play it back with MIDI. With it comes a software program (Kontakt Silver) that you can use to playback the MIDI.
So, in choosing playback devices, I can choose between Kontakt Silver and "DLS Music Device", which was on the Mac from before, I'm guessing it's the sound card that comes with the PowerBook G4.
The problem is that playback is a bit out of sync, and in addition it produces a strange "screeching" sound that's not supposed to be there. It sounds as if the sound produced is echoed and filtered. This is very annoying and makes Sibelius useless for me.
The problem is the same if I choose to use Kontakt Silver as the playback device as if i choose DLS Music Device.
I have 15 GB free space on the harddisk and between 150-300 MB free RAM when using Sibelius (the memory is 1 GB DDR SDRAM). A 1.67 GHz G4 processor. So I don't think my computer is the problem.
All other sound is good on the Mac, I can play mp3s, wavs and aifs without problem. Sibelius is the only program I have that can play MIDI-files (I think).
So what might be the problem? Is there a driver I can download, is my soundcard broken? I need help. Thanks.

Korg Legacy and the XV are not critical to my workflow, just items I had invested on I would like to keep. I did not research compatibility with Snow Leopard vwery thoroughly for those two, but I certainly did with the interface, which IS critical. Focusrite has released brand-new drivers that are supposed to be compatible with Snow Leopard, as they loudly trumpet on their web site.
And by and large, they do work - there's just that incessant noise. And THAT's an issue, and somehow I doubt it has to do with the interface as, like I mentioned, the noise only appears during the bootup sequence when, I assume, the Firewire drivers are loaded.

  • Pavilion 752n sound card drivers.

I have tried just about ever driver I could find but I can not find a driver for the Soundmax Sound Card that was listed on the machine before I had to replace the hard drive.
Additionally I am unable to load the drivers for the audio controls on the keyboard but that maybe connected to the lack of a sound card.
    Help!!!

I went to reatek's website (http://218.210.127.131/downloads/) and downloaded the AC'97.  Once I installed the drivers the system crashed but after the crash I went into device manager, found the SoundMAX driver and did a update driver, when I ran the update I allowed it to search the Internet and it found a SoundMAX driver 5.12.1.3620 signed by Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher.
Also you need Microsoft's .NET 2.0 to install the keyboard drivers you mention.
