Sounds like 747 taking off after installation, no screen with which to work

Hello,
After I installed Leopard on a dual partitioned hard drive (the other partition has 10.4.9 and FCStudio 1)and Final Cut Studio 2, I then rebooted the computer. It never booted up, but it did sound like a 747 taking off. Only after a few minutes did I have to force a shutdown to end this noise and power. What is going on here and what am I missing? Does it have to do with installing Leopard on a partitioned drive or installing Final Cut Studio 2 on the Leopard side of the partitioned drive? Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jordan

Never, never never never never never partition any drive where you will be doing/installing, editing etc. any video production.
If you want use Tiger and Leopard, then either install one or the other on a separate, not partitioned drive.
Any do not ever partition any drive where you will be doing/installing, editing etc. any video production.
I guess I said that.
Jordan, video production should be installed and should run a cleanest system possible.
partitioning is not part of that system
in my view

  • G5 crashes and fans sound like jet taking off

    Hi,
I am in need of some answers. I have had my computer now for at least 2 years. It's a powermac G5 os 10.3.9. Just in the last month I have had more crashes than I can count even when the computer is idle. Then the fans kick in. I have not installed any new programs, i've repaired permissions, i've done the fsck and to no avail!!!!!!!! Can someone please let me know if this is fixable or if I have to live with this problem for the rest of the G5's life.
It's really slowing me down work wise. Since I have to reboot so often!

Thanks for the reply and link, japamac. That thread didn't pop up in my search.
After following your link, I ran the Apple Hardware Test. The detailed test took right at an hour and a half (three times longer than it said) and returned no problems.
I restarted and both CPUs showed up in the Activity Monitor and things were fine for about 20 minutes, then the system simply froze, while I was running Safari and Firefox. But, no loud fans this time.
Upon a hard restart and then a soft restart, I'm back to one CPU.
Since only one CPU is showing up, I don't have a faulty one to deselect (I installed the "Processor" System Preference from the Developer>Extras>PreferancePane) or disable via Terminal.
So, I've got a couple of questions:
    1. Where are the error logs that I should look at?
I've opened the Console, but can find no mentions of "panic" or "cpu," other than some 3 year old references under "Java."
    2. More importantly, *how do I know +which CPU+ has failed*?
    I see no references to "CPU 1" or "B" or "0" or "A." It's as if I've suddenly got a Single 2.3 G5.
    3. Any possibility that this is a software issue?
I'm wondering if a recent update of Safari could somehow be a culprit. I had it open and also had Firefox open, both with 10-12 tabs. I know they can be memory and processor hogs.
Anyway, I will reseat the CPUs and grab a serial number while in the process and report back after a while.
    Thank you for your help.

I have a dual G5 and that sound you hear always happens when the computer first starts up but quickly stops as soon as an OS is booted, I believe it is all the fans running full tilt. However, in your case, something happened and your system cannot find an OS and therefore that loud roar continues for a long time.
The noise is normal - the fact that it keeps going is not normal but related to a failed install or at least the inability of your system to boot into an OS.
Start it up and hold down the Option key and you should get a screen with all the bootable partitions showing. You should at least see your Tiger OS.
You may have to reinstall or repair the Leopard partition but the Tiger should still be working.

  • 21.5" iMac sounds like a Boeing 747 taking off...

Sooo....I have a 21.5" iMac that has been giving me fits for the past couple of months. If I leave it on for more than a day or so, that baby really starts humming and, like the subject line says, sounds like a Boeing 747 taking off. It won't stop unless I shut it down then turn it back on. I ran that istat pro widget and discovered that when operating normally, the hard drives spins at roughly 1700-1900 RPMs. When it starts making that sound, however, it jacks up all the way to 5300-5500 RPMs! Sounds like the hard drive, right? Took to the Apple Store, explained what happened, and they recreated the issues. Sooooo, they changed the hard drive out for me. All was fine until last night when it did it AGAIN! Does anyone have ANY idea what it could be??

Hi, well I would sat it's another trip to the Apple Store, maybe they misdiagnosed! maybe the exchange HD is bad!

    Hi Rangnath,
For running SharePoint Designer 2013, you need to install Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework or higher.
Please uninstall the Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework, and install it again. After that, reboot your machine.

You basically answered your own question. If you have access to another computer just go download the appropriate language and OS version of Firefox 5.0 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html and put it on you usb drive and then go and install it onto you pc.

  • Which installation disks go with which computer?

I work at an elementary school where we have MacBooks, MacBook Pros, Mac minis, and different generations of iMacs. The person before me was not clear about labeling which installation disks go with which computers. Most of them say "For Mac Computers" and then have the software version on there as well. Is there a reference anywhere where I can look up the part number from the disks to see which model of computers they go with?

    sig wrote:
Can you imagine this elementary school with MacBook Pros and MacBooks?
Sure, especially since the first post says, "we have MacBooks, MacBook Pros, Mac minis, and different generations of iMacs."
Regarding the which goes with which question, the O.P. may find it useful to know how the system discs that came with other users' Macs are marked. For mine:
    iMac G5: "iMac G5" - Mac OS version 10.4 - AHT version 2.5.1 - Disc version 1 -p/n 2Z691-5317-A
    MacBook: "MacBook" - Mac OS version 10.5.2 - AHT version 3A143 - Disc version 1.1 - p/n 2Z691-6209-A
    iMac 2008: "For Mac Computers" - Mac OS version 10.5.4 - AHT version 3A152 - Disc version 1.1 - p/n 2Z691-6304-A
If other users post similar info for other Mac models the O.P. might be administering, some might see a side benefit for themselves: locating where in the heck they put their original system discs for safe storage!
A tip for the O.P.: It isn't a good idea to mark the OEM discs themselves with model info using a regular "Sharpie" or similar marker since the ink can over time seep through the gray surface paint layer into the optical layer beneath it, causing read errors. Either use a marker specifically made for this purpose or mark the sleeve with the info.

  • Why does my Sony Sound bar CT60BT turn off after 15 minutes?

I turn the volume down during the evening and when I do, it automatically turns off after about 15 minutes.  Is there a way to change the settings so that it doesnt go into standby mode?

    Hi mdalton1284,
Your Sound Bar has an Auto Standby Function.
It will enter standby mode automatically when you do not operate the Sound Bar for about 15 minutes and the Sound Bar is not receiving an input signal but the sound bar is receiving signal from your PS4 going to the TV via HDMI connection.
You may try resetting the Sound Bar.
    Follow the steps below.
Use buttons on the remote control for the operation.
Press BASS +, VOL - , and TREBLE + in that order within 3 seconds.
Let us know if you're getting the same result after resetting the device.

  • Update: Video - Canon 6D turns itself off after a few shots with fully charged battery

Update: I uploaded my video to youtube, please comment:
    http://youtu.be/3PNLUYd8g7A
TIA and pardon me for my English.
I posted this originally at another forum, and somebody suggested me to post it here as well, to get more help.
Long story short, I purchased a brand new Canon 6D from B&H on Oct 24th, 2013. From early december, the camera starts to shut itself off randomly and displaying empty battery. I found the camera constantly shuts itself off after 20 - 100 continuous shots with a FULLY charged battery (right off charger, showing 8.23V using multimeter, and showing 98% in battery info).
The camera will just turn itself off in the middle of shooting, showing empty battery int the shoulder window. The solution is simple, open the battery door, then close it again, no need even to pull the battery.
So, I contacted Canon support, sent the camera to the VA service facility, waiting for it be repaired. As an engineer myself, I understand things fail, and I thought this is such an easy issue to reproduce, anybody should be able to repro it.
Couple of days later, I received a phone call to send my accessories in, no problem, debugging needs more info, that's normal. I sent my lens and stuff in. I unfortunately had to bear the cruel fact that I don't have a decent camera for the holiday, though I have a backup.
After a long wait, on 12/28the, the accessories were delivered at 9:35am. At 10am, they called me, they were sending the camera back. No issue at all. I was like, have you tested AT ALL? They didn't care, sending the camera back regardless.
I received the camera on Jan 2nd, and saw the same issue on that day. Of course, it was NOT fixed at all.
I googled really hard, somebody said he had similar issue but it was a defective battery, so I got a brand new Canon battery, unfortunately, the same issue pops up again.
Ok, the only choice for me is to send it back again.  But this time I am totally amazed by Canon.
I sent the camera in again with my lens and battery. Also, a video showing the issue on a standalone CF card (I know 6D does not take CF, just to put the video on it).
Couples of days later, they called asking for accessories, I was like, what accessories, I don't have any more.
Then the camera sit in their facility for a few days for nothing. All of sudden I received a phone call on Monday morning, said it is ready. The camera has no issue at all.
I called, asked whether they have watched the video, they told me two technicians, including a senior one, was not able to upload the video to the computer. I was like, what the hell? why the heck you need to upload it to the computer, find a card reader, plug the card in, double click, how simple is that?
I talked to the service manager over the phone, he told me that there is nothing he could do, if their technician said so. They have decided to send my camera back, NOT fixed, again. I esclated the issue again, but haven't heard anything back yet.
Honestly, I am totally pissed, how stupid can they be? I included a letter with detailed steps on how to reproduce this issue. As an engineer myself, I know how easy to reproduce this issue. But what shocked me is that they don't even know or they didn't even bother to watch the video. In the same letter, I asked/begged them to contact me if they cannot reproduce the issue instead of just sending it back unfixed.
Guys, any other ways to get their attention? I already filed a BBB complaint. For a brand new camera of 3 months old, it has been in Canon's repair shop for almost a month. Leave to say that I missed the most importand holiday season in the year. This is simply not acceptable.

"The camera usually shuts itself off after 20-100 continuous shot, ..."
By this you mean your are in continuous drive? You just hold the shutter release down until it stops shooting?
    "... the shoulder LCD shows a ..."
    What is the "shoulder" LCD?
Sorry for the extra questions but I am trying to understand exactly what you are going through and why Canon said it is OK.
Canon did not say it was all right if it is not.
You are, also saying, if you use the camera, just for a single snap shot, say several in a session, it is OK? Right?
It only shuts down when on continuous drive or video?

  • Help. Recording with Audition sounds like I'm in a toilet, yet perfect with Audacity.

I'm trying out Adobe Audition after using the free software Audacity for a year; I've exactly the same set up re. mic, accoustic-friendly booth etc, and I've just recorded text in Audacity and again in Audition to compare.  Audacity one perfect, but the Audition version sounds like I'm in a toilet or other hard-surfaced room.  I've used older versions of Adobe Audition in a recording studio without this problem.  I'm struggling to understand why would it be so different from a freebie software with exactly the same set up when recorded only minutes apart.  Is it a sample rate thing?  I don't even know where to start trying to sort this out. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Usually this is caused by a monitoring condition where signals get fed back (with a slight processing delay) to your on-board mixer and then mixed with the incoming signal - it gives rise to digital howl-round, and gets recorded like this. It won't happen with Audacity because it doesn't provide monitoring in the same way as Audition. So the first thing you need to do is to make sure that you are only recording from a single source, and not something like 'what you hear' - all these settings are within your mixer, not Audition.
If none of this applies, then we'd need to hear a sample to get any further.
