Sounds like a scratched CD???

Ok might because i had loads of programs connected to the internet but i had itunes running in the back ground and had firefox running with 4 tabs open. Now nothing has changed, no updates etc, and been doing this for a few months but today when i click on a link on a web page itunes sounds like a scratched CD and jumping on every song! Cancelled Genius and seems to be fine!!! Anyone shed any light on this????

I had the same issue. I finally had to turn off my McAfee to get it to sound right. When I play it on my iPhone, it sounds fine. I would try testing again what is going on in your background and you should find the answer.

  • Music sounds like a CD

Today, as I was online and listening to music, but the music all of a sudden sounded like a scratched CD that doesn't play. It just happened for a little bit, but I wanted to know if it's normal. I was on Google while I was listening to music.

First check your computer's iTunes library for any content that may seem to have scratchy music. If you find any audio recordings on there that are this way, you could report this problem on your account:
    * Store - View My Account
    * Purchase History
    * Comb through all your purchases for the bunched up titles
    * Press the right arrow next to the billed purchase
    * Click "Report a Problem"
    * Explain the situation when you purchased the music
If it seems to be not from the computer but from the iPhone, two solutions:
    * Reboot the iPhone on a complete shutdown (Hold power and turn off)
    * Go onto iTunes PC when the iPhone is plugged in and disable music sync or uncheck all music.
** iPhone - Music Tab - Sync Music
    or
** Checkbox "Sync checked music and songs" from the PC's iPhone screen
** Go to music on PC iTunes
    ** CTRL+A - Right Click - Uncheck Selection
    * Resync to delete all iPhone music
    * Undo what you did to readd the music

  • Sounds like a scrached record when music is playing

music is playing but while surfing the net it sounds like a scratched record

It does, under certain circumstances. If you are playing music and lock the phone or it locks on its own, when you wake it up, the album art will show. It also shows as the background if you are in the music app. If this is not exactly what you are looking for, you can submit feedback to Apple about this feature at www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Having a problem with the sound for purchased movies is skipping like a scratched CD

Every time I got to play a movie of Television show the sound keeps skipping like a scratched CD. I've tried redownloading but that doesn't seem to work. I dont know what else to do.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • My Ibook sounds like it working on something but it actually dont! ANNOYING

Been looking for answer through all the forum couldnt finde the right answer. First of all sorry if my English is not correct Im originally from Norway.
Just got my Ibook G4 month ago. And at the beggining I was amazed how silent it working! But few days ago it start to show some behavior. here is symptoms:
It still works very quiet, BUT! when it totally quiet I can hear that even if I do nothing on laptop it still give that tiny sound like processor(?) or harddisk(?) trying to do something. Hard to explain, this sounds like when I open some program computer give this quiet scratching sound when processor starts working. Well thats sound comes and repeats non stop every 10 sec even If I dont do absolutely anything.
I was trying to use disk utility and its appear that everything is allright.
I was trying to monitor computer activity and here is what it shows:
    ACTIVE PROCESSE:
    pmTool ......... root
    Activity monitor
    window server
    config ... root
    kernel_task ... root
Those processes working all the time when I do monitor activity
And this processe appear from time to time
    SystemUIserver
    update.... root
Does anyone have an idea what can cause this "working processes" in my Ibook which gives this tiny sound.
It dosnt seems big problem for me, but it is annoying especially this part that I dont know what can cause that sound. Im totally in love with my Ibook and was really amazed how quiet it is and Im just trying to figure out whats wrong.
By the way since I got it I also installed next programs:
    MSN messenger
    Yahoo messenger
    LimeWire
    Windows media player
    VLC player
    STUFFIT
    DIVX converter
Can any of those programs cause that working sound? Maybe I just shoul reinstall opeariton system?
    Thanks in advance

I don't think reinstalling the system software will fix your problem. Usually hardware makes the noises and software raises the blood pressure. Are you a former Windows user? Lots of EX-Windows users feel like they need to reinstall their system software often, but it is not necessary with Mac OS X. The same thing with defragmenting the hard drive. It isn't needed with a Mac (unless one is making a huge movie and is constantly saving pieces of it - example) because of HFS+ (Hierarchy File System) and HFAC (Hot File Adaptive Clustering). You may want to look at You do not have to defragment your hard drive because of Hot File Adaptive Clustering. You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #25668 on About disk optimization with Mac OS X.
Developer Connection Document on HFS+ Volume Format says,
"Most files on a disk are rarely, if ever, accessed. Most frequently accessed (hot) files are small. To improve performance of these small, frequently access files, they are moved near the volume's metadata, into the metadata zone. This reduces seek times for most accesses. As files are moved into the metadata zone, they are also defragmented (allocated in a single extent), which further improves performance. This process is known as adaptive hot file clustering.
The relative importance of a frequently used (hot) file is called its temperature. Files with the hottest (largest) temperatures are the ones actually moved into the metadata zone. In Mac OS X version 10.3, a file's temperature is computed as the number of bytes read from the file during the recording period divided by the file's size in bytes. This is a measure of how often the file is read."

  • I have two apple id's one from my old laptop and one from my iPhone. I saved my iTunes library to my external hard drive and then tried to transfer it to my iMac. My music skips like a scratched cd now and I can't add any to my iPhone. Help please!

I have two apple id's one from my old laptop and one from my iPhone. I saved my iTunes library to my external hard drive right before my old mac laptop died and then tried to transfer it to my new iMac. Now when I try to play my old music it skips like a scratched cd. Also, now I can't add any music to my iPhone unless it was purchased recently through itunes and downloaded through icloud. I tried to "Organize" my library in hopes of correcting the problem but my iMac just ejects my external harddrive part way through. Please help!

    Ejects the harddrive?
Of what did your old Mac die?
It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere.  Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.

  • Songs skipping like a scratched CD

A few songs on my iPod nano are skipping like a scratched CD would skip: always in the same place, making that annoying stuttering sound. They work fine in iTunes, so I figured removing that particular playlist from my iPod, syncing, then re-adding the playlist and syncing once again would fix it by making sure I had the file from my computer on my iPod.
Since that didn't work, I have no idea what to do. Any ideas? Thank you.

Might want to post this over [here|http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=154] as you clearly stated it plays fine on the computer...

  • Sounds like iPods aren't so hot.....

From the discussions I've read on this site, it sounds like iPods (or other mp3 players) aren't the hot item everyone seems to think they are. I just got one (as a gift) and really like the concept, but all these glitches and required update downloads and compatibility issues and authorizations on different computers and....and....is annoying. These things need to be more simple and bombproof. I don't want to have to spend hours at a time tinkering around with my iPod. I want to transfer songs, listen to them and have the thing take care of its own updates whenever I plug it in.

    I totally agree with you.
I bought a 6 GB Mini this April, very cute in its pink packaging and whenever I handled it at the beginning I treated it like a newborn. Heck, I even gave it a name (Guinevere).
But maybe a month or two right after, I dropped it on a cement floor (I felt my stomach drop with the precious pink rectangle and was almost in tears). I said to myself "Oh no, there's goes $249.99 + 5% Mass sales tax!!"
Luckily, it plays music fine, but if it isn't used for a day or two and kept locked, it shows the Apple icon and takes a minute to 'boot up' (so to speak). I can't say for sure if this was due to the drop (it only fell 3 or 4 feet max, however it skidded for an additional foot). I now have permanent scars on my mini, and realized that the color on it is just a 'spray on' (you can see the silver of the scratches; though minimal, it's discomforting).
Though I have e-mailed Apple several times (and spent an hour looking for an e-mail address), I haven't received any response of whether it can be repaired and the fee for the repairs. Also, it seems Apple sees these devices as 'disposable'. I've read on a few sites (including this one) that iPods sent in for work are often refurbished and you get a new one instead.
Now, I'm a teen with no steady income. For the price you pay for one of their products, I don't feel it's a worthy investment. For one thing, there have been so many bad reviews about their products (and now something about a recall for the Nano) that Apple seems sketchy to me. I also noticed that any Apple (and non-apple) accessories for iPods are extremely overpriced. $20 for a case?? I bought the same type of silicone skin case at Wal-Mart a few days ago for $1.88. Granted, there isn't plastic covering the screen/click wheel on my mini, but even so, how can they charge so much for some flexible colored plastic?? Unless you are obsessed with technology and have the money to spare, I do not reccomend iPods.
The middle class at large (as well as teens and 20-somethings), which seem to be Apple's main targets, would probably agree with me in saying that iPods are not practical. Now, maybe I've just got a pot of bad luck with my mini. But I'm sure more than a few would agree with me and what I've said.
(And just as a side note: there were at least two other options I had researched that gave me more storage for less then or equal to what I paid for my iPod mini. And how is a 6 GB Mini $250 when a 30 GB iPod is only $300? Something seems fishy....)

  • TS3159 Why does my songs seem to jump like a scratched CD on my itunes player?

Ive noticed after updating my itunes that all my songs which are in my library seem to jump like a CD which has a scratch,It seems to happen in both itunes and mini player?

  • Import of Brand New CD:  Took FOREVER & sounds like GARBAGE

Here's a first for me... A friend bought us a brand new CD as a gift. I played the CD 1 time in our 5 disk changer at home, played it 1 time in the car. After each play, I placed it in the CD case after each time. Not thinking it's a scratched issue.
Took it up to our brand new iMac to import into iTunes... Much to my surprise, it was showing a 0.2x or 0.5x taking over 2 hours to import the entire 10 song cd into iTunes.
Several, if not all of the songs sound like trash. They play perfectly fine, but have "skips" in them.
What on earth could make a CD import go so wrong on a brand new disk?
Earlier this weekend, I imported about 3 of my old CD's that have been abused and they all imported just fine so I'm not thinking it's the drive in our iMac.
    Any thoughts?

Checked the CD, it was fine. Tried to re-insert it into the iMac. The iMac takes the CD in holds it for a few seconds, then spits it back out.
I tried this CD in my work HP laptop w/ iTunes and it imported fine.
At this point, I will chawk this up to an unusual instance. I sure hope that future CD's work in the Mac!
    Thx,
    Brent

  • My music skips like a scratched cd!

This is the second time I'm asking. please? anyone? my music on itunes skips like a scratched cd. but i know it's not a problem with the music itself. i think it has something to do with windows media player interfering with itunes?

I have been fighting this problem for quite a while. Itunes 7.02 skips, but playback on ipod is fine. I already did all the things apple said to do: ie all the things at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610, ie updating itunes, updating audio drivers, no third party plug-ins, enabled Maximum Audio Hardware Acceleration, ensured sound enhancer was deselected, updated directX, and selected “wave out”. I even talked to apple and HP. My songs play on winamp and windows media player, but not on itunes. I re-installed quick-time with itunes many times. Then from searching on the web, someone said that HP dv computers for whatever reason do not work with the copy of quick-time that is downloaded with i-tunes from the apple website. I then deleted the quicktime only with the add/remove programs on the control panel. Then I downloaded the quicktime ONLY, from the apple website. I have now been skip-free for 8 hours. It may not be enough time yet to tell if this is the fix, but before I was skipping every song. Try it and see if it works for you.

  • Popping/ crackling filter to make film sound like 20s film

Is there a built in filter in FCPro HD that will allow the audio to have the old sounding "pops and crackles" that you hear in older movies.
Also, is there a video filter that will give me the effect of lines and artficats in the film itself that you see like when you go to an old movie theatre and little black shapes appear on the screen from time to time.
    THanx!

If you export to a QuickTime Movie, there's some filters you can apply during that process ... like hair, scratch and dust (I think) ... and they're included free in QTPro.
Other than that, the best film effects package I've seen and used is from www.nattress.com
As for the sound, I've heard pops and crackling on old LP recordings, but not on old films. Perhaps you could sample some of the scratch and pop noises from an old album and build your own 'noise' track.

  • Edit to tape audio promlem - sounds like "chorus" effect

I have tried to Edit to Tape an HDV Sequence, down converted to SD, to a Digibeta deck.
When I monitor (headphone out of digibeta deck) while recording it sounds normal. When I rewind and check tape it sounds like the audio is "doubled up", almost like a very short chorus effect is on the audio. as well as this I can hear what sounds like tape crackle now and again.
However - when I do a straight crash record from the timeline - the audio plays back fine, no crackle.
So thinking it was an edit to tape settings problem i clicked on the audio button in the edit to tape window and notice audio was set to ALL ON. I changed this to A1 and A2 on, thinking that my extra audio tracks (which I had disabled, these where the original audio, not the OMF exported stereo mix) were somehow going down the SDI anyway...
No luck - did the edit to tape again and still sounded the same.
My heart rate has returned to normal now as the network kindly will accept the crash record with non standard timecode - but I of course still want to find out the problem so this doesn't happen again next week....
The Sequence was HDV 1080i, via a Decklink HD Extreme Capture Card, set to down convert to anamorphic 16:9. Sony Digibeta DVW-A500P deck.
Anyone know what the problem could be?
    thanks
    Hugh

for the benefit of anyone who searches for forum for a similar problem - it appears to have been a sync issue. changing "out ref" to "input video" appears to have fixed it.
