Sounds simple...Maybe it is. I want only one icon on my desktop..

All I want is the "Computer" icon on my destop. Finder refuses to allow me to put one there. Is there any way around this seemingly unnecessary block?

You can have whatever you want on your Desktop. Go to Finder prefs and turn off everything you don't want to see on your Desktop. Now put an alias for anything you do want. I have aliases to the startup drive, my data drive, my Panther drive (still lots of stuff there I want to consult regularly) and my home folder. I do not see the iBook's backup drive nor the original drive with 10.1.5 and a lot of old stuff. One bonus is that you can arrange them however you want and they STAY that way.
If you want to access Computer from the Desktop you don't need an icon at all. In Finder prefs select New Finder windows: Computer. Then just click on the Finder icon in the Dock and it opens Computer. That's how I get to the volumes I don't keep on the Desktop on those rare occasions I want something on them.

Stop sending me TWO replies to my mailbox. I want only ONE.

I was and have been getting two copies of every email sent to my mailbox. I followed the instructions for getting that straightened out but nothing changed; I kept getting TWO copies.
Then I decided to solve it by deselecting ALL of my subscriptions and then allowing them to begin fresh and, I thought, arriving SINGLY to my mailbox.
No such luck. I keep getting TWO copies of the SAME email.
I looked all over for a place to send an email with this problem, asking them to please send me only ONE email, but apparently they want to solve everything with toggled, preset answers. I ended up writing to someone in some office but, of course, no help.
Please, what can I do next?

Want only one user

I've been searching around, but couldn't find an answer to this, so would be pleased with suggestions/links.
When I migrated everything from my old mac to my new mac, I inadvertantly ended up with two user accounts. I want just one--all the old setting/bookmarks/etc from the old mac with the stuff that is on the new mac. I don't want to have to switch back and forth between two users when I am the only one who uses this computer.
Is there a way to combine these user homes into one user? How?

Well, that's because with an Administrator account you can do everything -- including making active your root account and resetting the root password (without permission, if so desired). And so, nasty programs (if they get on your computer) could do nasty things with your computer, in an Admin acccount.
Some people don't want to have the root account activated, or others may want to activate it and set a password and then de-activate it. Neither process will help you, if you are running an Admin account all the time. You can simply reset the root password no matter how complicated you've made it.
I don't know if that explains it enough or not...

apple will not merge your accounts.... you will need to pick one and use it and change password..if you can't pick one then just make a whole new account and just let the others float away into the apple space.. but take out the credit card info so that shady husband can't use it... you can google "manage my apple id" and it will let you log in and change stuff.

Each email address you use is a different account and can't be merged. Apple says:

I do not know what the "daw" account is. I thing the "store" account is for Apple on-line store from which yo can purchase hardware. That is sperate to the Apple ID you use on the iPod but yo can use the same email address.

In the bookmarks toolbar, I want ONLY the icons, not words -- how do I do it?

Once upon a time, there was a way to dump the description of the items in the bookmarks toolbar and leave ONLY the icons, but, when the mouse scrolls over them, the descriptors pup on.
It is that way on my laptop, but, after a wipe are re-install of my xP, I cannot get my bookmark toolbar to do that.
How is it done ?

Simple certificate expired - multiple webgates but only one down

We have OAM 10.1.4.2 and multiple webgates on different web servers. The certificate expired but only one webgate had problem. Users were able to login to other applications protected by the webgates. All webgates were using the same certificate. Once we updated the certificate in the access server and restarted the access server, other webgates start having problem? Shouldn't all webgates will have problem connecting to access server as soon as certificates expires.

I would expect all the WebGates to see the same problem, assuming they do use the same certs. It is possible that they are only checked when establishing the connections to the Access Servers - so they will only see problems when the connections are re-established.

Printing several copies when we only want only one.from SAP to UNIX.

Hi, we have a problem when printing from sap to unix queue.....
There is a program in abap that only indicates to send one printing .. but in unix we see that the queue sends sometimes 3, 4, 5 or two copies of the same printing.
do you know if there is a note in SAP that can solve this issue?

Chosing multiple clips, hold on to them, when I then want only one.

When choosing several clips to move on a timeline, then I want to choose one end of one of those clips, which happens often, it automatically chooses the ends of all the clips that I originally chose. (I know if I hold down the shift It will only choose my single clip).
Other editing programs work more efficiently (oppositely) without using shift key.
If I move several clips, I then click on one end of any of those clips, which "unlocks" the hold on all those moved clips, and allows me to simply extend the length of a single clip, without having to hold down the "shift" key.
I'd rather have to hold down shift to include all last held clips ends, as this move is much more less used.

Hi Mark, Yes, you are correct. Only thing is that having to deselect first, seems to be an unnessisary extra move. I thought maybe there might be a setting somewhere to change this. Another design flaw I guess... :-(

If you have an external drive, put the library there and use Get Info to "Ignore ownership on this volume." You will each have equal access to the library.
If you don't have an external drive, you can do the same thing with a partition.

What exactly are you wanting to do. It is a little unclear from your post. You've also posted in the iTunes Match forum. Does your question have something to do with iTunes Match?
Keep in mind that if you all have your own content purchased with indvidual iTunes Store accounts, trying to consolidate is going to cause everyone big headaches. But if you give us more details perhaps we can help you sort it out.

What two countries are you living in? Are certain apps you have downloaded in one country not available in the other? The only solution I can see is to start new with a new apple ID or you can use one of e two you currently have. What do you mean "And now to boot I am unable to buy anymore apps as I appear to always be on the wrong country." This could be a problem with the firmware in which a restore may be necessary.
