Soundtrack export to AAF

Hello - I have spent all morning trying to figure this out - hope someone here can help.
I am cutting an animated series in FCP. I get the voice records weeks before I get any picture, and so I like to assemble the dialogue edit in STP, where I can name tracks, do any dialogue cleaning etc., without going into FCP. What I am trying to do with STP2 is to export the session as an AAF file that I can open in FCP, and still have the option to move individual audio clips around, rather than a single track containing all the dialogue.
I would also like the AAF file to reference the exisiting audio files on my drive rather than create new files. I have Automatic Duck, and the import into FCP is taking forever - almost an hour so far, for 9 minutes of audio. I cannot see why this should be such a problem - am I missing something?
This is really holding up my edit, so any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks
Martin

I haven't had luck getting an AAF produced by Soundtrack Pro to be read by Digital Performer, it was only readable by Logic Pro for me.
Your best bet might be to use what are called stems. Render the tracks out separately into separate wave/aiff files. The export menu item in SP will give you some options to make this easy. When you have the tracks exported out to single files you can then just load those files into your Pro Tools or Logic, one file per track. You'll have to set the surround panning again of course inside PT/Logic.

  • Export to aaf

for an animation film i had mixed together different sound pieces with a speaker. my sound engineer, how does the final mix is working on nuendo based on windows. i gave him an export to aaf, wiht the resolt that every track, even mono tracks are doubled and the panning is centered. so he has to do all the pannings of the stereotracks manually.
so, is there a better way to export the hole project from soundtrack to nuendo than this?

You don't necessarily need as many exports as tracks, although you could end up that way.
Say you had a sfx at the beginning of one track, on another track you have a sfx in the middle, and on another you had an element at the end you could conceivably bounce to 1 exported stereo track.
Your Nuendo guy could separate and move them again if he wished.
You could also premix some elements if you so desired, say you have 3 elements layered at one point and you wanted to marry them together you could export them together.

  • When I export a AAF file from Protools 9 and Import the file into Logic ProX the drum track is out of sync.  I created the drum loop using NI Maschine.  Has anyone else seem this??

When I export an AAF file/project from Protools 9 using an external drive and import the AAF into Logice Pro X the drum track does not play correctly.  It is out of sync with the rest of the track.  I created the drum loop as a plugin using Native Instruments Maschine. Has anyone else had this problem??  Also how would I go about exporting the midi tracks from the Protools session.  The midi track does not show when the file is imported to Logic Pro X.  The midi data should export with the AAF file correct??

Are you using any plugins in Logic?
In Preferences/Audio  under the General tab, how do you have the plug-in-latency compensation set?

  • I added an adjustment layer. Now it only letting me export as AAF?!

What does that mean? Alpha channel? I added an adjustment layer, black and white effects to my entire video. Now its only letting me export as AAF. It's also asking me whether to "embed audio" or "save as legacy file". What in the world does that mean and what should I choose? This is just a draft to show to client.

Ann, when I go to Export, I only get "AAF" and "Final Cut Pro XML" options...I don't see "Media" so that I can choose my options. In one movie, I have an adjustment layer on top of all movie. To make the movie black and white.
But another movie is just plain. And still I get only "AAF".
The first tim I went to export this movie, regular, I exported as .mov Now it's not letting me do that. What's going on? I have to show this to my boss in few hours...
    Thank you so much.

  • Recording Soundtrack & exporting to Quicktime

There has been a lot of discussion about recording a narration soundtrack from within Keynote, them when you export it to QuickTime the audio track inexplicably disappears. This happened to me as well. Today I pulled out my FastTrack unit to use an external mic, and guess what? The audio track stayed put when I opened the QuickTime file. The only correlation I can suggest is that I was using the internal mic in my laptop to record.
I did not try an external mic plugged into the left mic-input jack. Hope this helps many future Keynote users until this bug is fixed.

My audio file is an iMovie soundtrack exported as quicktime. No microphone involved. Teh audio is set to play straight through when the preso is played. When I export the keynote there is no audio file embedded with it.

  • Combine movie and soundtrack exported from Keynote

    Hi!
I have made a presentation in Keynote '09 and have added some audio as a soundtrack to it (playing throughout the presentation). When exporting to the Quicktime movie, I get two files, presentation.mov and presentation_soundtrack.mov (the option to export the soundtrack is of course selected in the export options window). When opening the presentation.mov in Quicktime player, the audio plays fine. However, I would like the movie and audio file to be combined in the same file. How to do this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi,
Since I am trying to do a number of things with Keynote, I read these discussions looking for opportunities and pitfalls.
I read your message, and saw your outcome as an issue. Since I've yet to add the soundtrack to my current project, I needed to know more about the outcome before I proceeded, in order to adjust accordingly.
I took my project, and added a song as the soundtrack. I played the slideshow, and the soundtrack played along, across the slides as it should. I then began to record the slideshow, but the soundtrack came playing through the speakers and was being picked up by the microphones, so I offed the speakers, donned my headphones, and re-began the recording. The soundtrack was playing (in the headphones), and I was narrating across many slides.
I played the recorded slideshow, and all was present - soundtrack and recorded narration.
I exported to Quicktime, sending the output to a new folder so that it could easily be found, along with anything else that might be generated. Upon completion, there was only one movie file in the folder. I opened and played it in Quicktime. It was perfect - slides looked good, narration was there, and the soundtrack was playing in the background.
This outcome appears to be your objective, so I'm not sure what I did differently than you, but from this experience, it works as should be expected.
    Good luck.

  • Soundtrack export fury: Having performed fine for years, when exporting from a multitrack session Soundtrack now exports a tiny 152KB file of nothing. Have synced bit rates etc, and tried different submixes. It's just decided not to work anymore. Ideas?

Granted, the version of Soundtrack I am using might need replacing due to it being the original but surely this wouldn't suddenly effect the export capabilities? Any help would be very much appreciated!

  • Export OMF, AAF  from Final cut X ???

Is there a way for export audio/ video from final cut x like OMF or AAF?  for professionnal use, it's very important !

    In short: NO.
as a pro evidently in need of exporting to Protools or whatever, you should stay away from FCP X,  & stick with FCP7 for now. Wait & see what fixes or solutions Apple comes up with once the smoke clears after tuesdays debacle of this software introduction. The ball is in their court now, everyone seems to be holding their breath for a reaction from Cupertino.

  • Export Embedded AAF Error - "Cannot embed audio source error number -2147483647"

I have a sequence that I need to send to an audio post house running ProTools. We have agreed to send an AAF for delivery. The sequence I have prepped looks like this:
    - All video and video tracks deleted (except V1);
    - All audio effects & volume removed;
    - All audio transitions removed.
I export the sequence, am presented with a choice to embed the media into the AAF:
It runs and begins to build the AAF but I get this error message: "Cannot embed audio source "/Volume/...." because an error occurred when writing essence data. Premiere ASL error number: -2147483647".
What is causing this error and how can I prevent this from happening? It is very frustrating and causing a lot of trouble.
I should mention that I can export an OMF fine with "encapsulated media".
    Adobe Premiere V7.2.0 (46)
    Mac OS X 10.8.5
    WAV 48kHz 24bit in 1080p @ 25fps Sequence
    BlackMagic Ultra studio Express connected
    Problem occurs with final output.

I have the exact same problem. Did you allready found a solution?
OMF has the 2GB limitation wich makes it hard to use for my project.

  • Bottom line... soundtrack export: yes or no?

I have read a number of the postings regarding exporting a Keynote presentation with a soundtrack... and there have been quite a few. I am still a bit confused and would like the basic question answered: Can you export a Keynote presentation to QT and/or iDVD with a soundtrack from iTunes activated in the Document>audio>loop? All I get is two separate files when exporting to QT: sound .mov and the slideshow. As previously mentioned it is highly questionable that Keynote could do all the things that it can do and yet not accomplish this. BTW I luv my Mac, I luv Keynote, I luv my iPhone, etc. etc. but this is so disheartening if true. It would be a shame that a work-around is necessary.

YESSSS!!! Even after meeting with 4 Geniuses and 1 Creative the answer was still a definite bottom line, "Maybe." Until, I finally realized that the one setting that I was not using correctly was in the Export> QT> Playback. I had been using "Manual" and not using the "Fixed Timing" out of fear that it would change the custom settings that I had on each slide. However, that is not the case. The settings on each slide remain the same even though in this option there are settings for slide duration and build duration. I do not know what those options do but the bottom line is I now can Export to QT and then import to iDVD with both sound and video as one file and they work fine both as an isolated QT file as well as a QT/Slideshow in iDVD. Thanks for the help from all the contributors both recently and quite awhile ago when I first faced this challenge.
    Peace,
    Jim

  • Export to AAF causes "Uncaught Exception"

I have a 9-minute STP project with hundreds of clips and edits... it's a stereo mix. Every time I click File > Export AAF... I get
    An Unexpected Problem
    Uncaught Exception
Any ideas on what might be causing this and how I can fix it!?

    Per this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8328494&#8328494
It seems a lot of problems can be cleared up by deleting some extensions... anyone know exactly which files (and where) to delete?
    Thanks in advance!

  • I can't export an AAF from Premiere to Avid.

Why can I not open an AAF from Premiere CC 2015 in Avid Media Composer 7.0.4?
It is a simple edit in Premiere in 1080p 2997.  The AAF imports to Avid but the video is offline
but the audio embeds in the AAF but the timecode of the audio is not matching the video.
The audio is stereo, not 5.1 dolby.  Is there a metadata glitch somewhere?  This is a bit
    maddening.  Thanks for any help.

    Hi Dave,
Why can I not open an AAF from Premiere CC 2015 in Avid Media Composer 7.0.4?
There's no such thing as "Premiere CC 2015." Check the "About" splash screen and inspect the version number in the lower left corner. It should be 8.0, 8.1, or 8.2.
Regarding your issue, my guess is that the two are incompatible as much work was done on AAF for Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2), however, I do not know how far back it will affect versions of Media Composer imports. Can you try a trial of the current version of Media Composer and see if it works?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • What is the Better choice to export, XML or AAF?

I Know FCP does not support AAF natively. But I need to send my sequence to Avid, so my idea is export
as .xml and open it in Premiere CS5, and then export as AAF from Premiere to open my sequence on Avid.
Does anyone have a better idea? What is the best workflow to do what I need?
ps* I don't have Automatic Duck

    That's from 2004... lightyears ago.
Try your idea...but I don't know how well it will work.  How will Avid connect to the media and all that.
the BEST workflow is Automatic Duck.  Don't have it...get it.  Simple, straightforward...and it works.  You can also try Boris AAF...cheaper.  I haven't tried it...I use the Duck.
