Soundtrack into idvd project

need to export a mix from soundtrack to be 'dragged n dropped' into idvd project. during my 'one on one' tutorial at local apple store, was shown how to export a 'mpeg' file using soundtrack pro, which was easily and quickly 'dropped' into idvd ... believed could do the same in soundtrack, but appears can only export an 'aiff' file - which is having trouble loading into idvd project (colored pinwheel spinning for 15 plus minutes, until i 'force quit') ... any advice completing exporting from soundtrack and importing into idvd would be greatly appreciated! using soundtrack 1.5

Try page 168 of the Soundtrack manual - To keep a reference movie as a reference movie when exporting. Rather than encoding to a self-contained audio file.
What happens when you try a different audio file?
Have you tried trashing your iDVD preferences.

  • Can't drag and drop iMovie files into iDVD project

I created a bunch of iMovie projects, went through the share/media browser process. They show up as icons in iDVD but when I try to drag and drop them, I don't get the green plus sign and they don't drop. I've tried both widescreen and standard settings, in both iMovie and iDVD, matching them up - still won't drop.

What's the path to the file? Is it on an external drive? A network drive? A mapped drive? Can you try copying the file to your desktop and dragging it from there?
It's on an external e-sata drive. No problem accessing the file from within Premiere.  Just can't drop it into Encoder. Doesn't work if I drag to desktop and try from there either.
Are you dragging it in from Windows Explorer? If not, then what app are you dragging from?
    Yes, from Explorer.
Are you dragging the actual clip or a shortcut to it?
    Actual clip.
Have you tried importing via File > Add Source...? [Double-clicking a blank spot in the Queue gets you to the same Open dialog.]
Yep, tried that.  No luck.  Double clicking and adding didn't work either.
Definitely only seems to be QT files.  Have tried H264 files from 7D camera and ProRes files.  No luck.  Files that are MP4 work fine.

  • Get iMovie project completed on different Mac into iDVD project

I have a bunch of iMovie projects of my son's school year which I created and I want to burn to DVD to share with the other parents.I am sharing them to the media browsers as large files to use in iDVD, but one movie I want to include was created on the Mac at his school, and at the moment I only have a medium sized copy of it here as an .M4v file.
How is it best to progress so I can include that clip on the dvd too? Convert it? Or I could go into school to access the original file there and save it as something else? I guess it would be preferable to get it as a large file at least. I don't have the original clips it was created with here at home by the way.
    Thanks,

'Start iMovie and set it to show Hard Disk View in Event's'
    How do I do this?
Event window has two faces - Can look like this
or like this (observe small blue symbol top right hand corner)
Also: 'Make the Moves over to the external HD (T-mode Mac) and if You start with a Project You'll also be asked to copy over the needed Event's'
I did a test this end, tried to drag and drop a project over to an external HD and nothing happened. How do I make the moves over?
Works for me - but only in iMovie'09 and 11 - In iM'08 Projects can not be moved - still not so important as the project is only a very small text document telling iMovie howto use the material in Event and Audio and Photos to play as the Movie You made.
BUT - I got frustrated as I tried to move Event to project or other way around - THAT doesn't work ! - only moves within resp. window from one hard disk to the other.

  • How do you import multiple iMovie projects into one iDVD project?

    Hi.
I'm 17, and am trying to create a DVD of when the family went on a cruise. For different places/days, I've created different iMovie projects.
But, when I want to export to iDVD, it only lets me put one iMovie project into one iDVD project?
I've tried dragging the actual iMovie project files into iDVD but that doesn't work.
I know I could export to QuickTime and then drag it into iDVD, but it seems exporting just to iDVD is much quicker, and the quality is better.
Anyone know how I can do this?
    cheers
+P.S. If it helps, it's iMovie '11 with iDVD '09.+

That is not true. You can use them all in one DVD. I have just created my first DVD which has a trailer, a movie with chapters and several different slide shows.
All you have to do is save each project to Media Browser. (Choose Share in toolbar). Open iDVD and choose your theme or no theme. On the right will be all your options such as audio, media photo's etc. Choose your various video's/projects etc and just drag and drop which ones you want to the page and they will automatically put themselves there with the given name of each video/project.

  • IMovie 5.0.2 project won't import into iDVD 4.0.1

    Aloha--
I'm working on an iMac G5 running OS 10.4.7. I am trying to bring an iMovie (just over 13 GB) on a La Cie external firewire drive into iDVD, also to be saved to the La Cie. The La Cie is formatted as Mac OS Extended. iMovie quits after/during rendering. I have used the iMovie-iDVD process successfully in the past, albeit with smaller files residing on my HD.
I've browsed this and the iDVD forum. I have removed possible incompatible QuickTime extensions, and I've tried to open the project into an earlier version of iMovie (4.0.2). However, the earlier version of iMovie won't open at all. I've also tried to open up iDVD and import it directly, but the menu import function just doesn't work (I can see and click on the file, but it never imports), and because it's on the La Cie and not my internal HD, it's not in the "media" folder so I can't pull it in from that menu.
    Could this be due to:
    (1) The fact that one or both projects are on the La Cie (and what would the work-around be?)?
    (2) One of more version of the program aren't compatible with the OS?
    (3) Some other reason that I can't dream of right now?
Unfortunately, I need the DVD by tomorrow, so any prompt help would be both useful and appreciated!

The movie that's in the iDVD folder (of the Shared Movies folder) contains chapter information. If you imported that movie to iDVD, iDVD should have delivered chapters.
Make sure your iDVD preferences are set to accept chapters.
If nothing works, this failure of iMovie 5 to export to iDVD suggests some kind of underlying problem. I suspect something is corrupt in the video or audio content.
Try importing that made-for-iDVD movie I mentioned to a NEW iMovie 5 project. (Drag it to the Timeline of the project.) That should deliver "cleaner" video/audio. Add your chapters to THAT project, send it to iDVD. Everything might start working as it should.

  • How do you cancel loading a project into IDVD

Hello. A few months ago I tried loading a project into IDVD and it took so long that I forgot about it. I have tried rebooting my computer several times but it still "swirls" saying "loading project" every time I open IDVD. I am now in need of loading a new project for school and it is still saying it is loading the same project from several months ago. The computer won't allow me to close the popup box, or anything. Any information or suggestions would be great! Thank you so much!!

Delete the iDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that's located in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Then launch iDVD and you should be asked to either open an existing project or start a new one.
    OT
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Low quality of burned DVD even if I drag&drop iMovie project into iDVD

    Hi all,
I've a iMovie HD project that I want to burn via iDVD (7.0.4).
If I click "Share with iDVD" the quality of the resultung video (which is burned to DVD) is rather poor. As I've read within this discussions, the preferred way is to close iMovie and "drag and drop" the iMovie project into iDVD.
With this way, iDVD (instead of iMovie) will render the movie, which should give a video with far more quality.
Unfortunately, the burned DVD with the "drag and drop" method has the same low quality as the video with "Share with iDVD".
I've done a little research and noticed that the "shared movie" for iDVD (iMovie project->Show package Contents->Shared Movies->iDVD) for a 1:10 video has a filesize of only 32kb!
Is there any way to set the "export" parameters for this "shared movie" (it is a quicktime file)?
The quality of the completed DVD is acceptable if I export the iMovie project to "DV stream" an import this stream into iDVD. But in this case I lose all my chapter markers of the movie ..
Is there any way to export the movie from iMovie HD and keep all the chapter markers for iDVD?
Importing the iMovie HD project into iMovie 08/09 is not an option, as I lose the chapter markers also ..
    Thanks in advice,
    Kind regards.

    Hi,
the iMovie project was created as "DV" project and I imported DV PAL clips. The iDVD preferences are also PAL (25fps) and the quality setting is "professional quality".
I've also tried the setting "best performance" within iDVD (as suggested within this forum), but with the same poor result.
I can see within the iDVD "project info" that iDVD will use "mymovie.mov" within the "Shared Movies->iDVD" of the iMovie project (Show package contents).
As this converted movie is of low quality, I think this is the root of evil.
If I export the movie from iMovie with "Export as DV stream" and import this converted movie into iDVD the quality is ok - but I lose the chapter markers ..
Is there any way to keep the chapter markers?
    Kind regards.

  • Combining two iDVD projects into one

So... I have two iDVD projects both of which are under half an hour and they are both complete. The dvd is all set up, the menus have all been perfected and I like it. Is there anyway for me to set up one DVD and on the first menu of that DVD give the option to go into either of the two DVD's that I have made and have all their menus and everything be just the way they are without me having to redo everything?
In other words, is there anyway for me to just combine the two projects and add a front page that gives me the option of going into either of the two in order to save DVD's and to archive everything?
    Thanks!

Sorry, but no. You need to create a NEW iDVD project that includes the content from the other two dics.

  • Can I export my FCP X project directly into iDVD?

I have not yet purchased FCP X, but before I do, I want to make sure that I can import my FCP X project directly into iDVD along with chapter markers.  Thank you for your help.

Yeah it's pretty straightforward- just a lot of export presets and you get a lot more than DVD making codecs. That said, if you want to just add chapters to a track you can always try something like this: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060119212015646

  • Combine two iMovie projects into one iDVD project?

Could someone help me figure out the best way to combine two iMovie (HD 5) projects into one iDVD project? I currently have a documentary with one iMovie project at 1 hour exactly. I am starting a second one and would like all this to go on one DVD eventually. I am especially concerned about what happens with the chapter markers already created in each iMovie project - how is that combined when the two are put together? If there is a link for this info, I'd be happy to read that as well.
    Thank you!

I would combine them by saving each completed imovie (without chapter markers) as a full quality QuickTime movie.
Then start a completely new imovie project and import each of those in to make make one large imovie. (But remember, your DVD will only hold about 120 minutes of footage and that doesn't count the themes).
That's when I would add the chapter markers.
BTW-it's going to take up a lot of disk space to save the movie s and to burn the DVD.

  • I have an iMac, version OS X Lion and iMovie 11, version 9.0.8 (1778). iMovie keeps quitting. Won't allow me to export to iDVD to burn a disk. Out of ideas. Lots of time into the project.

My iMovie app will just quit for no reason. It doesn't loose my data but it's a pain. Now that I have finished my picture project, I want to export it to iDVD so I can burn a disk. iMovie just quits, no matter how I try to export the project. Does anyone know how to fix this problem??
I have a lot of time into this project and would hate to loose it. But if anybody knows of a really good app for making picture and video CD/DVDs (that doesn't quit every time you turn around) I would love to know about it.
    thank you,

    Hi babowa,
I tried sending my project the way you said. I got the message that it would take about 15 minutes to do this. Then the program quit again. No 30 seconds after I tried to send it.
I just spoke with a tech from Apple and he say there is a glitch in my project. He had me try to send a different project using Quick Time and it went right through. He say I will have to build a whole me project and I'll just have to hope it doesn't have a glitch in it. Not what I wanted to here, I have a lot of hours in this project.
    Thank you for trying.
I am still open to suggestions for a different app. Preferably one that works

  • Size of imovie project & importing into idvd

So I would like to transfer my imovie project into idvd with minimal quality degradation. Does the quality progressively get worse once the project goes beyond 4.6 G? What is the maximum size that can go into idvd?
Also, I had difficulty importing AVI clips into imovie. I received and "unknown error" msg when I tried.
Finally, can I add other data to the dvd besides the movie (i.e. spreadsheet)?
Any help on any of these questions would be awesome.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    c4daisy,
The length of your movie is the determining factor when encoding a DVD with iDVD. The file size doesn't matter.
You can fit about 2 hours of video on a DVD.
What is the source of your AVI clips? Can you open them with QuickTime?
Yes, you can add use iDVD to add file to a DVD-ROM section of DVDs you create.

  • Why does the file size change when put into an iDVD project? And problems with dual layer discs...

I exported a short video of mine from Final Cut Express and the size of the file came out to 7.3 GB. When I put it into an iDVD project, it says that the file is only 800 MB. I tried just burning it onto a dual layer disc anyway to see if it might still burn at the original file size, but the disc came out unusable for some reason, and obviously hadn't been burned anywhere near full-capacity. So, I tried it again, and the exact same thing happened.
I guess my first question is: why is iDVD changing the size of the file? I want the quality to be the best it can be, so keeping it at 7.3 GB as opposed to 800 MB is rather important.
Secondly, why did the dual layer discs come out unusable? I've burned single layer discs before and they haven't been an issue. Also, I know for a fact that the drive can burn dual layer discs, so that isn't the issue.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide me with help on this issue.

Guessing here but it looks like you edited/exported an SD/DV sequence of about 30 min in FCE. DVD needs to be MPEG-2 so iDVD compresses the original file down to the size that you report.

The quality will be what the MPEG-2 compression and the software allow for. MPEG-2 is DVD standard .... there's no way around that.

Guessing again but it would seem that you burned a Data DVD instead of a Video DVD which would be unusable by a set-top player. As I said above you can't get around DVD standards.
If by any chance your video was HD originally you can try to go the Blu-Ray route using Roxio Toast or FCS 3 (discontinued) or FCP X. You will also need a Blu-Ray burner.

  • TS2180 Moving project from flashdrive into IDVD

I am trying to move a project from my flashdrive into IDVD and
    it is not working.

Is your "project" which is on your flashdrive an export from an iMovie Project?
You have to export/share the project ( iMovie 8,9 and 11 )  before you can use it in iDVD .

  • Put two imovie projects into one idvd project?

I have been trying for days to do something that seems so simple.
I have two imovie projects with chapters that I'd like to place as two separate movies into a single idvd project. I have tried everything, seems it should be as simple as clicking and dragging from one to the other. But idvd tells me the imovie project isn't prepared for sharing. If I share them to idvd, I get two separate projects. How do I combine them into one?

Best place to combine QT movies is in iMovie itself (that or FCP). However, the following link makes reference to combining two or more iDvd slideshows in iDvd. But one may also add multiple QT movies to the slideshow feature w/in iDvd.
