Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2 Edit Line Dissapeared

In STP 2.0.2, when I use the blade tool, there is no longer a blue edit line that shows me where my edit point is.
It appears if I hit shift, apple, or option, but doesn't track with the blade.

Hi, I had a good old search around as I received no responses to my problem. I found a pro applications update here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL756
I loaded it and then when I booted up STP 2 it started to run but then gave me a error message stating,
An Unexpected Problem
NSInternalInconsistencyException
Invalid parameter not satisfying: m_mainWindow
I then found a posting advising me to delete this folder ~/Library/Application Support/SoundtrackPro which I did.
Then I ran STP and it worked!
Hope this helps

  • Why no "snap to edit" in soundtrack pro?

One thing that bugs me about Soundtrack Pro (aside from all the bugs) is the lack of "snap to" fuctionality in Soundtrack Pro. In FCP you turn on snapping and you find the end of a clip easy within a few pixels. With soundtrack you seem to only have the options of Ruler ticks, seconds and frames. Why no "snap to edit" or end/beginning of a clip?
I'm increasing doing most of my editing in FCP. I'm then sending that edit to Soundtrack Pro where I can sweeten it with no further edits. One day Soundtrack pro will be a editing tool. But not just yet.

    Hi,
Thanks for this tip. it's not quite what i had in mind but it may have it's uses.
What i mean is the sort of snapping in FCP. What i should have said was a way for the play head to "snap" to the end of a clip, so you can then move another clip that will then "Snap" to the end of that clip and so on. As it is, if I move a clip to but up against another, it tends to overlap and start a cross fade. What I want is for it to meet a barrier of sorts, and not start overwriting/cross fading with the clip, so i can get precise alignments and not worry about shaving off a few frames here and there.
Is there anyway of doing this?

  • Completely new to Soundtrack Pro - need help for school project

I've never used Soundtrack Pro before, but I need to record and modify some dialogue for a project for one of my classes, and I think that's the only audio program we have on the computers in the lab I'm using.
Can I use Soundtrack Pro to record myself reading lines of dialogue? And then modify the audio tracks? I don't want the characters in my project to sound like me, I want them more high-pitched and cartoonish, like Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, yeah you can select your audio and using the *Process menu* choose eitherr the +Pitch>Pitch Shifter II+ or the +Mac OS > Pitch+ plug in to shift the pitch. I think Pitch may be better for what you want.
You can also look under the *Process menu* and find +Time Stretch+ which you can use to speed up your audio if desired.
Don't forget the Undo command -z

  • Where is Soundtrack Pro?

    I'm on Logic Pro 9.1.8
    Mountain Lion 10.8.5
I'm doing a tutorial walkthrough (D. Nahmani, 'Pro Audio Production' p.322).
The instruction in step 5 (Choose Options > Audio > Open in Soudtrack Pro) has revealed that I don't have Soundtrack Pro, and I'm not sure why?
I bought from the App Store more than a year ago.
    Can anyone help, please?
I've had a cursory look for the application in the applications folder but I'm not locating it if it is on my disk.

I figured as much but I'm perplexed; why then is this discontinued app 'appendage' referred to with prominence in D. Nahmani's walkthrough for the official workbook for Logic Pro 9.
The book was written for the original (boxed) Logic Studio version, prior to the AppStore only LP9 release.

Regarding opening audio files in a separate audio-editing app - do you have anything you'd recommend that equal Soundtrack Pro? Secondly, is editing outside of Logic so advantageous, anyhow?
There are plenty of 3rd party audio file editors, for example Adobe Audition, Sound Forge and others. Some audio file editors (including STP) will allow you do do things that are not possible in Logic ( e.g. frequency spectrum view) or much more fiddly to do in Logic.

  • Soundtrack Pro editing

I was just wondering if it was possible to actually edit a song in this program or if it is directed more at creating your own music. If so, then what kind of software lets you take apart the instruments of a song, speed it up, cut out lyrics and leave the instrumentals, slow it down, create your own party mix or techno version? I have figured out how to make the music file sound of a large music hall, but not really much else. I have just played with the effects basically not knowing exactly what I am doing...If this program can actually edit songs I would love some help! Thanks.

depends on what you mean by "edit". STP sort of walks a weird line between a waveform editor and an arrangment/mixing/sound design tool. as far as waveform editing goes, it's the best out there in my opinion. does a great job and has tons of workflow features. as far as arrangement or composition goes; it's a bit more limited. it doesn't have any musical MIDI capabilities and can't host any virtual instruments. it can however host Audio Unit effects plugins and comes with all of the Logic plugs which are top notch. the Space Designer reverb used to cost hundreds just by itself, as an example. it does have fairly extensive audio cleanup and EQ features, some of which you could use to do some of the things you describe such as trying to isolate or remove frequency ranges or instrument sounds from a mix. and it does allow for multitrack arranging and mixing, but you can only record a single track at a time. for remixing or composition i think it really shines when working strictly with loops. you can do all sorts of elastic time stretching etc as well. i also have Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Reason and a ton of soft synths etc that i use for actually composing original tracks. i use Soundtrack Pro strictly as a wave editor at this point, and only for compositions made from Apple Loops.

  • Best workflow for editing Logic Pro 8 regions/tracks in Soundtrack Pro?

I've searched for a solution for the below question in several forums and to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help!
What is the easiest workflow for editing Logic Pro 8 audio files with Soundtrack Pro 2? And I'm thinking of a process very similar to the Final Cut Pro timeline audio-to- Soundtrack Pro Audio File project workflow.
I'd imagine that a good amount of the time, I'd be editing regions rather than full audio files -- as in, once in a while, while mixing sessions that another engineer has tracked, I'll hear clicks and pops from pre-amps clipping; or I'll hear an air conditioner blower running or something.
Basically, I occasionally hear noise in the arrange window while mixing that I'd like to edit out with Soundtrack Pro, and I need to know the easiest way to send that audio clip to Soundtrack Pro and then back to Final Cut Pro.

Connecting your FS Mobile to powered speakers will not increase latency. Latency is simply the fixed amount of time it takes for your computer to process sounds. Once the sound is processed and available at the outputs of the FS Mobile, it can go anywhere; to a PA mixer, a separate monitor mixer, headphones, etc. One thing you will want to consider when playing live is to have a personal monitor very close to you and pretty loud. The reason being is that the physical distance between you and the main PA speakers will itself induce a type of latency since sound travels at about 1126 ft/sec or 1000 msec of delay for every 1126 feet. Adding this delay to your latency could make holding a groove or pitch for that matter nearly impossible. The delays add up pretty quickly. For example, if your speakers are say 50 feet away from you, you would likely have around 20 msec of delay right there. Add this to your system latency of 20 msec and your up to 40 msec which is like trying to play a rubber guitar underwater. Even if your PA speakers are closer, the delays add up quickly. So having that nice loud monitor right up next to you will insure that you only have to get the feel of your system latency.

  • Logic won't convert my Soundtrack Pro edits

Logic (9.1.3) won't update edits made to my audio regions in Soundtrack Pro (Version 3.0.1)
The audio material is my own (i.e. not Apple Loops etc.) I've never done this before but its supposed to work. 1) Select region in Logic>Options>Audio>Open in STP. 2) Make edit in STP then File>Save File. 3) Click to reactivate Logic Arrange window (I've tried both quitting STP and leaving it open before this step) - Progress bar shows Logic creating wave graphic but it is only refreshing the original wave and not loading the edited wave. Renaming during step 2 is of no help either. Any clues as to the problem or what would be the easiest work around? THANKS

    Hi
With Logic 9 and STP3 there should be no need to Flatten before switching back to Logic. It is only necessary to Save in STP.
I have encountered a couple of other problems occasionally:
    A) In STP, make sure that the file is actually being saved as a '.stap' file and not an aiff/wav. It might be necessary to do a "save As" and then re-send over from Logic??
    B) When switching back to Logic from STP, I have occasionally run into problems with the method used to switch programs. Instead of simply 'clicking in a Logic window', try using CMD TAB to switch the active program. Alternatively, in STP simply Save then Quit.

  • How can I revert my audio clips that I have edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio?

I edited a project in FCP6 and sent numerous audio clips to Soundtrack Pro where I sampled and removed some AC and fridge compressor
hum from some interview footage.  I'm sending the project out for professional sound mixing and they advised me to restore the original
audio to prevent the creation of artifacts when they process the sound in a different program.
Is there some way to "revert" all my clips that I edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio without going back to
my original interview footage and cutting in clip by clip?  (Next time I'll save my original audio on a duplicate timeline -- live and learn!)
Thanks in advance for any helpful ideas!

What happens if duplicate the sequence, then choose one of them to use "match frame" to get back to the original clips?

  • Audio edited in Soundtrack Pro is offline in Final Cut Pro

I'm an owner of iMac 24" and Final Cut Studio Pro.
When send an audio track to waveform editor and save it, in Final Cut the file is offline 'cause it don't find the "render.mov" file. I've the last suite version and normally this file would have automatically embedded in the file package generated by Soundtrack Pro.
Thanks a lot for your help.

i purchased the logic studio suite and it came with 5 jam packs..the other one i spoke of that was bundled with final cut had no additional content outside of the stock basic content in the core program, so my new question would be, if i can locate the individual samples from an earlier version, could i just drop them into the library for use??
    thanks in advance

  • Clicks and Pops Soundtrack Pro does not get rid of?

How do I edit out (reduce) clicks, pops? (Soundtrack Pro's fix all does not take care of that!)
What I call clicks (noise) show up in the sample editor as a straight line. I have seen videos of somone erase, shorten these noise-spikes in other applications so one can not hear them.
Is there a tool that I can use to do this in Soundtrack Pro, (Logic Pro)? I am working on audio recordings that were recorded with reel to reels then transfered to a computer with that noise. Please help.

  • Soundtrack Pro 3 training

I'd like to get some basic training in Soundtrack Pro 3 that could get me started as a novice. I've cracked opened Soundtrack a few times and played around with it, but I really didn't know what I was doing. I know some stuff about working with sound, and most of the components in Soundtrack are things I understand, but I need something to get me started.
I've enjoyed stuff from Ripple Training in the past, but the only thing I see there is their "Sound Editing & Mastering in Soundtrack Pro" package. Scanning through the lessons, this looks extremely complex. I'm looking for something more along the line of their "Motion Fast Forward" series.
    Any suggestions?

    Robert,
I have "Motion 3 Fast Forward" and at least one other package from Ripple Training, and these work well for me. However, the description of the Soundtrack package says, "Whether you're an editor working in Final Cut Pro, or a dedicated sound mixer with experience using other audio workstations, this tutorial presents a complete picture on how to edit, process, mix and ultimately master your soundtracks using Apple' Soundtrack Pro 2."
To me, that sounds more complex, but I'm hearing you say that isn't the case. Correct?
I DO know a fair amount about audio, I'm just looking for a resource that will give me clear instructions about how to get where I want to go.

  • Soundtrack Pro told me I "don't have permission to write it."

This has never happened before. Found the FX track I want, a .caf file if that makes a diferance, clicked on it to put in the Edit window, did Command 'S' to save it and this came up:
"Couldn't save the document because you don't have permission to write it."
All the premissions, on the top Apple Loops floders are all "Read, Write".
This is new to me. I could 'Save Copy as.." and save it as an .aiff file to use in FCP.
Should I stop carring about it since I CAN get a copy?
Bounus question: Why does YouTube flag my videos for using copywrited material (and may be blocked in some countries) when all the music I use comes out of SoundTrack Pro?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • FCP Audio Clips in Soundtrack Pro - Marking the Start & End Points

When I double click on an audio clip that I've sent from FCP into Soundtrack Pro I seem to open up the entire media file.
How do I lock off or at least mark the clip start & end?
I don't see any markers that tell me which part of the clip is actually used in the imported FCP sequence.
I only want to make (non-destructive) changes to the clip.
I don't want to alter the original media file.
And I just want to work on the part that's used in the FCP sequence.
It makes sense that there's a way to show the start & end points of the clip but I'm just not seeing it.

I am a bit of a newb here, so pardon if my explanation is a little unpolished, but I have been working on some of my projects like you are and this is what i figured out. I select my sequence in FCP and send to stp as a multitrack project. The whole audio timeline shows up just as it looks in fcp, and the video track shows as one large clip that is made up of all my cuts put together. Now, my audio tracks are all on one line, and i can see all the clips with their cuts on the sequence. I click the first one and open it up to work on in the waveform editor. At that point i see the entire audio clip, including the part before and after my cut that i am using in my sequence, but i also see, up near the playhead, gray markers that show the actual part of the clip i am using in my edit. It is easest to hit shift-z to look at the entire clip on screen, and then find the grey markers. Also, if you play audio before the in marker, you will hear it but you will see that the video is not playing anything, then once you enter into the in-out section the video will play along, and when you pass the out marker the video freezes as the audio keeps playing. Hope this helps.

  • How To: Make Beats in LOGIC/Soundtrack Pro - sample is LOOP Adrenaline Loop

    1) What is the best way to make a loops (similar) to the loop e.g. that comes with Logic, Soundtrack Pro that is in the category Rythmatic (Adrenaline Electronic Long (TITLE)), I have used ableton and SX, Nuendo, Acid....just trying to find the easiest way -not knowing the way to work quickly is a bit frustrating....
    2) What key command in logic when double clicked (or key command) will open the aiff file in Sound Track and after editing put back into Logic?
    3) Are there any good books on Logic 8 or on-line video training available yet?
    4) Due to me not having enough space on MBP, I did not install orchestral jam pack - is this why the templates for ORCHESTRAL DO NOT show up in templates? If so, how do I repair.
    5) I forget ? 5 LOL.

    Anyone?
    Thanks.

  • Soundtrack Pro v2.02 update

How do I go about getting this update? I have Logic Studio 8 installed. That installs Soundtrack Pro.
On the download page, the update takes me to the FCP page. There it will only allow a FCP serial, which I don't own. Via software update, it does not show the update either. So now what?
Sorry, I see the same question was asked in another thread, but it is not appearing in software update for me. (also, the pro application update is not listed)

Non' che' dubio' otri' vezi' - problemi'!
    That's getting close eh?
I looked through the downloads and Apple has not given a direct link for Logic Studio users!
That's a problem and it's not right. I would recommend calling the tech support line but right now it's so busy and the call from Italy isn't free. (39) 199 120 800
I would recommend going to Version Tracker and complaining in the feedback about this problem. I posted the problem in the feedback section for apple. But for now you're just going to have to wait.
