Soundtrack Pro back to FCP some clips lose volume

I'm having issues exporting a final mix from Soundtrack Pro.
I didn't have this issue with the last version on my PowerMac.
I send everything to STP from FCP, mix it, export it, and bring it back into FCP and one file (dialogue track) is not included.
I go back to Soundtrack pro, it won't play there either until I re-open the application or move the file to another track, but still, when I do that and re-export, the same thing happens.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
Also (and maybe related?), when I open this file as an audio file it comes up with what looks like a 5.1 surround setup.
I couldn't find anything in preferences that would allow me to open it as a simple stereo file.
That would be cool.
Thanks again for any help/advice.
Best,
Terry

Thanks for the reply.
Everything is being sent to submix 1,2 and the master mix seems cool. I actually don't have surround issues (I don't think). It's just that the .mov files have 4 tracks of audio (HVX200) and four tracks always come up when I open the audio files in the audio editor. For some reason my mind went right to surround issues (all my faders are set to stereo pan).
The issue I'm having feels pretty strange...one group of tracks (all from the same source .mov file although it's always a different .mov file with each project I try) always fails to export (both in master mix and individual tracks). I don't get any error message, I just can't hear that track. All the volume levels, envelopes, etc...are fine in STP.
When I return to Soundtrack Pro, I can no longer play (hear) those tracks, but if I open one of these tracks that has an issue in the audio editor or manipulate it (switch to surround and then back to stereo, etc...) I can hear it play once again in Soundtrack Pro, but, once I try to export it to FCP the same thing again.
This happens with EVERY project I try, one file at least.
I'm in the middle of a feature film and It's madness.
Any help would be great and very much appreciated.
Best,
Terry

  • How can I revert my audio clips that I have edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio?

I edited a project in FCP6 and sent numerous audio clips to Soundtrack Pro where I sampled and removed some AC and fridge compressor
hum from some interview footage.  I'm sending the project out for professional sound mixing and they advised me to restore the original
audio to prevent the creation of artifacts when they process the sound in a different program.
Is there some way to "revert" all my clips that I edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio without going back to
my original interview footage and cutting in clip by clip?  (Next time I'll save my original audio on a duplicate timeline -- live and learn!)
Thanks in advance for any helpful ideas!

What happens if duplicate the sequence, then choose one of them to use "match frame" to get back to the original clips?

  • Hello, Please Help! When I bring the mastered audio from Soundtrack pro back to final cut pro 7, the audio plays well at the beginning 3 mins later it doesn't sync. Please Help!!!

    Hello, Please Help!
When I bring the mastered audio from Soundtrack pro back to final cut pro 7, the audio plays well at the beginning 3 mins later it doesn't sync.
    Please Help!!!
    Edgil

Make sure your easy setup has the correct frame rate for your sequence.  Seems crazy but somehow or other fcp assigns a frame rate to audio files.   I've found this can sometimes be tricky to get right.  Here's what I've done to force the issue.  Make sure the easy setup frame rate reflects that of the target sequence in fcp.  Create a new project.  import the audio in the new project.  And then copy the clip from the new project to your main project.
    Good luck

  • Soundtrack Pro not rendering FCP sent files

I have not been able to get STP to intergrate with FCP. I export with Audio file Project, do some processing, save in STP and when I get back in FCP it can't find the file. I get the error message that "Some Files went offline" when I try to reconnect it appears there were no render files made but can find no way to rectify this. Please help. Thanks.

When I send from FCP to STP it asks to "open a project file". The can be edited as a *.STAP file. When I save teh *.STAP file and got back to FCP - the audio in the FCP timeline has been updated with the changes.
This is what I understand to be the "nondestructive" way to handle it, since it is not altering the original audio file it is only changing the project file.
Still, this workflow isn't working. When going back to FCP after the audio is changed, STP crashes, or throws the FCP audio offline. When I try to re-connect the audio, FCP is looking for a " :render" file that does not exist.
To me, this means STP isn't properly rendering or saving the file.
I've not been able to upgrade my STP yet (still on 1.0), I wonder if this was fixed in later versions??

  • Soundtrack Pro: Moving Mulitple "locked" style Clips at once.

Hi Guys, Thanks very much for your help with previous problems by the way.
I was wandering if it was possible to select multiple clips on multiple channels and move them all in bulk up the timeline? for instance, If I need to drop in a new interview half way through my podcast that was not expected, I dont wan't to have to move everything individually and lose the edit points and levels etc?
I do hope this is possible???
    Cheers,
    Dave.

    Use the Forward Select tool.
You can mark all clips that are in your timeline from that point on and move them together.

  • Soundtrack Pro & FCP....

Ok been working on trying to solve this issue all day and I have come up with nothing.
Does anyone know simply how to "Send a Multitrack" file from Soundtrack Pro back to FCP without having to export the mixed clip.
I know if it was 1 audio clip I could use the send audio file but that is not the case, yet I do wish multitrack would work the same way.
Can anyone who has worked with heavy multitracks explain how they sync the audio to the video afterwards. Once you send from FCP to Soundtrack the audio file loses 1.1 frames, and is causing me nightmares.

I've seen a couple of tutorials and they say if you send to STP via the "send track to FCP audiotrack file" then everything you do in STP will be present in FCP. But I did it as a multitrack send to STP. Why it's not the same thing is beyond me?
So at the moment I have a perfectly edited audio track in FCP that I cannot get to sync up. Talk about frustrating.

  • Sent FCP project to Soundtrack Pro but how do I get it back into FCP?

    Hi everyone,
I just sent to project from FCP to Soundtrack Pro and now I am wondering how do I send the Soundtrack project back to FCP with the audio adjustments?
I know this is possible I'm just having a barin ** moment today.
    Thanks

    this is your work flow...
1 ctrl click on audio> send to soundtrack pro audio file
2 in soundtrack pro make the neccessary adjustments (noise reduction by any chance?). apply filter
    3 save the soundtrack project...
when you save the soundtrack project, it automatically swaps the old audio file in FCP for the new 'sent' audio file... you don't have to 'export' from soundtrack to get the audio to FCP...
You won't actually notice the change in audio in FCP until you save the soundtrack project, and are working back in FCP.

  • Exporting from FCP to Soundtrack Pro looses files!!!

I'm working on a project shot on an f900 HD camera with the tapes downconverted to HD-DVCPro to quicktimes. I sb-clipped the QT and I re-synced the audio with the .wav tracks recorded on set. My sequence is set up for a .wav project. I've exported a sequence from FCP by using both Send to Soundtrack Pro and exporting to Soundtrack pro. In both cases I received an error and when I went back to FCP some of my clips were gone. They weren't in the trash or in the Capture folder> I did a search for the file names and they had vanished, or had been renamed. Anyone had this problem before? Should I dump the STP then re-install it? I'll look at Apple support page. Is there a problem between the .wav and aiff? Can Soundtrack Pro bring in .wav or is it only aiff?

  • Having trouble "roundtripping" between FCP 6 and Soundtrack Pro 2

I've been a FCP user since it first came out, and believe it or not, this is my first attempt at roundtripping with Soundtrack Pro.  Basically the process goes pretty good until it's time to go back to FCP.
Here's my workflow:  In FCP I highlight the audio clip in the timeline.  I select Send To > Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project.  It creates a (sent) file, which I save (Save project with latest clip metadata is selected).  Once the clip opens in Soundtrack Pro, I make the adjustments I need to make (in this case, I'm getting rid of some background noise), then I save (Include Source Audio is selected).
Here's where the problem comes in.  When I go back to FCP, I get the "Some files went offline" warning.  When I try to reconnect, I get the following warning:
    "File Attribute Mismatch
Some attributes of one or more of the files you have chosen do not match the attributes of the original.  This may cause problems within the sequences that are dependent on them.  The attributes that differed are as follows:
    - Media Start and End
Would you like to try to connect them again?"
When I go to the folder where the modified (sent).stap is saved, it opens and plays back fine.  However, it looks like Soundtrack Pro is saving the full clip (from the original footage), not just the selection from my timeline.  I'm assuming this is why I'm getting the "File Mismatch" error (basically it's too long).
Is there a step I'm missing?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First thing to try is resetting your fcp preferences
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2491
It's also possible your sequence has gotten corrupted.  Try editing a short clip into a new sequence and see if that works.
And what are your sequence settings?
Also, although its a long shot, make sure the frame rate of your easy setup matches the frame rate of your sequence.

  • Media Disappears After Exporting to Soundtrack Pro

I have an HD project I'm working on that was shot on the HVX200. The files have been converted and imported into FCPS2 and the edit went fine. Then I tried to export the sequence to Soundtrack Pro for audio editing and clips started disappearing from the drive. The only solution I have found is to re-convert and import the files.
This has happened twice now and all the same files. What's happening? Does anyone know of a way to prevent this?

Reports of this strange file disappearing behavior surface every few months and almost always involve having both apps (STP and FCP) open at the same time. Speculation has been that somewhere in the round trip, FCP gets confused and believes the original files are renders and are deleted. And when FCP deletes something, it is gone.
The work around has been to make sure that both apps are not running at the same time - i.e. export your file from FCP then close FCP. Launch STP, make changes then export back and close STP. Launch FCP, import edited file back in and continue on your merry way.
This is a pain for certain. The other way is make sure you always have a set of the media stored offline (which you would anyway with P2 sourced files) and simply do an offline/online reconnect when the files go missing.
    Good luck.

  • Soundtrack Pro Crashes when opening Audio File Project

I am just starting to use Soundtrack Pro 2 with FCP 6. When I try to send an Audio File Project from FCP, Soundtrack Pro starts up, then closes. If I try to open the Audio File Project within Soundtrack Pro the program closes. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

In trying workarounds, I exported the clip as a movie from FCP then tried to open it in Soundtrack Pro. STP closed. I also tried opening the (sent).stap file that FCP generated, and Soundtrack Pro closed again. Also, STP does not give me the error window saying the program closed unexpectedly and do I want to report it. It just stops. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot.

  • Soundtrack Pro Problems?

Hello all, I'm having a problem with Soundtrack Pro and would like some help...
When using the PlatinumVerb Effect (Process>Effects>Reverb>PlatinumVerb), everything works fine in that sitting BUT when I export and leave the program only to then come back to that same Project File; I that find all of the PlatinumVerb Effects that are attached to individual tracks change back to their default settings for PlatinumVerb.
You can image the pain it causes to go back into the File and change X amount of tracks to only get it to the point where it should be when you open it. Please help me to understand why Soundtrack does this and how I am to avoid it.
    Thank you.

I've had a very good experience working with Soundtrack. It seems like your system has a problem. If you're interested in solving the problem, why don't you try a few things and post back to the list.. Someone here might have an idea for you!
First, Play the file using Quicktime Player to rule out a bad video file. If the video file does play back smoothly in Quicktime Player, there's likely something with your confiuration. Does audio play back smoothly, or does it skip around too? Do you get any performance warning dialogs while it's attempting to play?
Let us know what hardware you're using including any external audio and video devices. How much RAM do you have? Also, let us know what version of the OS and of Soundtrack Pro you're running.
Are you playing back video in the video window, or are you trying to use the video out on the preferences tab?
I'm confident you can get Soundtrack working smoothly.

  • Vertical Stripes after send back to FCP

This is a new problem I have not seen in the past. After I color correct a sequence and send back to FCP, some of the clips are corrupted - all you see are vertical bands of color. I have tried a few different things to no avail. Any suggestions.

But there is something about them that COLOR doesn't like -- if it is not an intermittent fault. If you have already tried a restart and re-render, you can eliminate that as a possible causative. There may be a filter, or if you were working in Express, the media may have been digitized in a marginal format.
Without knowing anything else about your media -- resolution, codec, framerate... can't offer much more advice.

  • Why no "snap to edit" in soundtrack pro?

One thing that bugs me about Soundtrack Pro (aside from all the bugs) is the lack of "snap to" fuctionality in Soundtrack Pro. In FCP you turn on snapping and you find the end of a clip easy within a few pixels. With soundtrack you seem to only have the options of Ruler ticks, seconds and frames. Why no "snap to edit" or end/beginning of a clip?
I'm increasing doing most of my editing in FCP. I'm then sending that edit to Soundtrack Pro where I can sweeten it with no further edits. One day Soundtrack pro will be a editing tool. But not just yet.

    Hi,
Thanks for this tip. it's not quite what i had in mind but it may have it's uses.
What i mean is the sort of snapping in FCP. What i should have said was a way for the play head to "snap" to the end of a clip, so you can then move another clip that will then "Snap" to the end of that clip and so on. As it is, if I move a clip to but up against another, it tends to overlap and start a cross fade. What I want is for it to meet a barrier of sorts, and not start overwriting/cross fading with the clip, so i can get precise alignments and not worry about shaving off a few frames here and there.
Is there anyway of doing this?

  • Soundtrack Pro with Final Cut Express

I've been using Final Cut Express HD for a little while with the version of Soundtrack that came with it. I'm now going to upgrade to Logic Studio and I'm wondering if Soundtrack Pro will work with FCE the same way. In all the documentation I've read thru, they only talk about Soundtrack Pro working with FCP. Anyone know?

There is no round tripping from FCE to Soundtrack Pro.
