Soundtrack pro can't export stereo tracks

Ok. I have a problem. I'm recording some stereo cassettes into logic, then cleaning them up in Soundtrack. the editing flow is very usable. now, when I want to save, I have very limited options. Why can't I save as mp3/m4a/etc?? I see that export is what I need. Oh whoops, you can't export from a stereo track. Why?!!!?? Ok, so how do you convert a stereo track to multitrack to export? I could pretty much move completely over from Audition if I could figure this out. Help? I can't be the only one editing stereo masters in STP?

ok, how can I import stereo into two mono tracks? can files be moved from edit mode stereo into multitrack?

  • Fat EQ in Soundtrack Pro does not export the mix!!!!

I am very frustrated. I have been trying to export a mix from Soundtrack Pro with a preset using the Fat EQ. How complicated can this be?????
I export to FCP6 as a AIFF file. How complicated can this be????? This software has a flaw. It will not turn my sound file from FCP which I import into STP. It works fine in STP but then will not convert into an AIFF by the time it gets to FCP/Desktop. All I get is a blank sound file. Not happy with this software so far. FCP6 seems fine. What the heck is going on here???
I am limited as to what I can mix in FCP6 with the audio tools. I thought STP could be helpful, but it is driving me up the wall!!!!!!
Please someone help me export my file some way so I can use the EQ's and mixers in STP like it is designed to do.
    Frustrated with STP.

Yes, just a stereo file. STP version 2.0. Final Cut Pro 6. One of the filters worked once in STP 2.0, then it does not, it seems very finicky.
I am sending my audio files from the timeline to STP for audio editing. Then I apply the EQ once the project is in the main page of STP. Everything is good here, the EQ applied works, everything works just fine.
I then go to File >Export > Save As .... and then export it as a AIFF file. This is where something happens. It seems my fat EQ is working in STP, and then after it is exported back to FCP 6 there is nothing, nothing. There is an audio file, just no data at all, no sound waves.
The Autofilter seems to work when it is applied. It worked for the first 2 times anyway and then did the same as above. I am going to just edit audio at an external independent studio I think. I can't be bothered trying to figure this out for the duration of the project. It is too time consuming.

  • Soundtrack Pro 2.0.1: stereo level meters in the Meters tab? How?

I'm using Soundtrack Pro with an M-Audio Firewire 410 to do a live stereo recording. I've created a new audio file project, and I've only got two tracks in the project (left and right channels), but for some reason the Meters tab insists on displaying a 6-channel meter view, instead of stereo meters.
Page 49 of the Soundtrack Pro 2 user's manual specifically mentions a 2-channel (stereo) meter view (and even includes a screenshot), but I can't figure out how to get this view in my project.
What am I missing here? Or is this a bug?
    Thanks!
    Scott

I just went through this and it appears that my Focusrite Saffire was the culprit. I connected all the outputs on the focusrite according to the way the jacsk on the back were labeled and then set up the multichannel speaker setup to match. Then I went into STP, created a pink noise clip and panned it around, the LFE, center and rears were not in the right place.
I reconnected the hardware to match the 5.1 pan pot in STP then changed the multichannel speaker setup to match. Everything appears to be correct now but I would have loved to have been able to just assigned the output busses to correct outputs in the saffire.
Next step is to pan that pink noise around with my SPL meter to calibrate the room.

  • Can you export multi track audio using FCPX?

    hey guys
i can only find export audio under the "share" menu
and it has aiff, aac and mp3, no wav or omf and no options to include as multi tracks rather than a single stereo track or 5.1 surround
do you guys know of a way to export multiple tracks? without muting every track and export numerous times of course

Typed this hours ago and forgot to post it.....
Have actually done that and sent a test piece to the broadcaster. Not sure if I have got the audio tracks in the right order.... from top to bottom would that be audio tracks 1-4, with four at the bottom? I am waiting to hear back from the broadcaster to see if the test piece works as they expect it to.

  • My editied soundtrack pro file only exports as the old, unedited version

I imported an AIF file that is the exported soundtrack to my FCP project. I had to export the soundtrack instead of sending the track directly to soundtrack pro, because the changes I made in sound track would not carry over to my FCP project. After I had edited my AIF file in STP I have tried exporting it as an AIF file to be imported into FCP, but everytime STP creates the file it is with the OLD audio. I have done this multiple times in different ways, but there seems to be no way to get my edited audio into my FCP project. Please advise. Thanks!

  • Can't get stereo track to sound stereo...

I recorded audio track in Amadeus Pro as AIFF stereo file, where in L channel is one speaker, and in R channel is another speaker (translator).
I had one mono track in Logic Express 8, and I added another stereo track below it where I imported that AIFF stereo file. I see in the waveform that each speaker speaks in its own channel, but here in Logic in my headphones both speakers sound in the middle. I found that the problem is with the plugins I use in the channel strip - all plugins in the channel strip are mono and mix both channels together. Te keep both speakers separate in their own channels I probably need to separate that stereo track into two independent channel strips - one for each channel. How can I do it? (I use Apogee Duet 2-channel firewire interface.)

    Hi Akaxa,
One of my answers will be like the CCT said - direct monitoring. But let´s see....
Can you record the sound and post it to see what sounds like?
Are you connecting your speakers through mac outputs or apogee out´s? What about the phones does it sound the same?
    Try this:
    In - from the apogee
Out - to apogee out´s and check mic
Out - to apogee phones and check mic
Out - to mac phones and check mic
    Does it sound different?
    Please post your results.

  • Acrobat X Pro - can you export to a editable InDesign document?

I have a few pdf files containing multiple pages which I have got corrupted indesign files of. Does anyone know if the 5.5 version and X Pro can export the pdf back to a working indesign file?

There is no way to export an InDesign file from any version of Acrobat.
That said, there is pretty good (but not inexpensive) software from Recosoft called PDF2ID which can CONVERT PDF files to InDesign files. Conversion implies that it can do a pretty good job in most cases.
    http://www.recosoft.com/products/pdf2id/
According to the product description, "PDF2ID recreates the intended construction and layout of the document by forming paragraphs; applying styles; regrouping independent graphic elements; extracting images; creating tables; recovering annotations and other elements automatically. PDF2ID converts every page in a PDF file to an equivalent page in the resulting InDesign document."

  • Soundtrack Pro 5.1 export dropping levels

I tried searching, but can't find this anywhere exactly. One thing that seemed similar said to trash preferences or duplicate the project, or reinstall... and I don't really want to do that, but this problem makes no sense to me.
I have a 5.1 mix I'm doing, fairly complicated, just a lot of tracks, 4 submixes. I have everything how I want it, all 6 channels sounds good. When I export (I've done AIFF files, all separate mono files, and one 5.1 file, same issue) it drops the center channel considerably, but not all the way through. Maybe... 2/3 of the way though, it brings it back up to what it should be.
When I go to listen to the mix in Soundtrack after export, that's how it sounds. Simply changing the submix output to none, or any of the other ones, and then assigning it to its original submix again brings it back to where it should be. Export again, it moves levels around again.
Any idea what the issue could be?
Oh, and I've even tried assigning the offending channels to another submix that has exported fine, and same issue on export.

    Ok, got it.
Despite picking the correct # on the track after making it mono, upon export, it just defaults to the main track (so, in this case, what it sees as the Left or Right channels, since 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are L, R, C, LFE, Ls, and Rs, respectively).
I tried editing each clip individually in the same project, but that ended up changing all of the clips with different mono tracks selected, too difficult and annoying.
Solution was to take the original 6 channel file, drop it into a new project, leave it alone, export AIFF as separate mono tracks, keep the same name, but append "-#" at the end of it, and then in the original project, as long as those new AIFF files are with the source file, you can right click the clip and hit replace with similar, and find the corresponding mono track you want to use (If I needed track 3, I picked mono track "[file name]-3".
Everything kept the same cut points, etc, so it was just an easy swap. Track levels and effects stayed the same, all exported as expected.
    Thanks me!
    *self five!*

  • Can you export audio tracks as AIFF? I dont get it!

I recorded some audio narration tracks and I am trying to export just the tracks one by one into an audio editing program.
Can you only export audio files to iTunes??????
Is there a way to export the files as normal audio files?
    Thank you!

    Ok, will do. Thanks!!!
So they don't let you set your own sample rates and such. That is pretty darn lame. Very limited control.

  • How do I export a 2-channel stereo from a Soundtrack Pro master mix?

I'm using Soundtrack Pro to create a 7-track music mix for a live event in a few weeks. The mixing and balancing of audio levels went fine. But when I exported the project to an AIFF file, the resulting file had 6 channels instead of the normal 2, and its bit rate is 4233 kbps instead of 1411.
    In SP I selected File> Export > Master Mix | AIFF File | 16-bit | 44.1 kHz
There don't appear to be any options regarding flattening the audio. So how do I create a normal 2-channel stereo AIFF file from my mix?

Never mind, I figured it out — the problem was that my Submix 1 was marked "1-6" instead of "Stereo 1,2" — problem solved.

  • In Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1 I'm trying to separate left and right stereo tracks to delete left and pan right to centre. I cannot find a way to do this.

I record in stereo with a 10KHz tone down the left channel to defeat AGC on my camera and mic feed into the right channel. When I edit, I want to mute/delete the left channel and pan the right into the centre, to leave me with mono audio across both left and right. I could do this easily in FCP 6 but can find no way to do it in FCP X. I'm using the same source files. When I choose Dual Mono mode in the Audio Inspector, it mixes left and right and pushes the combined signal into both channels, giving me a mix of 10KHZ tone and audio in both left and right. Stereo mode shows me the two channels correctly with one driven hard (the tone) and the other at good voice levels. I just want to kill the left channel and pan the right to centre.
I'm converting original TOD files using MPEG Streamclip before import and definitely keeping audio as stereo.
This is driving me nuts! It should be simple and is in FCP 6. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Stereo Setting
    Mono Setting

Mb - If you're using FCPX 10.1.1 and Mavericks, make certain you've downloaded the most current Sony XDCAM FCPX plugin from sonycreativesortware.com unless you're using an older version of FCPX and then you'd need the previous XDCAM plugin.
You shouldn't see 8 mono tracks.  There are import settings in /fCPX that you can check and I don't ask FCPX to analyze my media or seperate mono or combine stereo, etc.  I like to have everything come in as it is, especially because I know what I've done with every channel, etc.
What I wrote to Ian is what I'd tell you - so please take a look at how you can make a "stereo" track that is actually two mono tracks, mono.  Once you do that you can address each mono channel by itself since it needs different volume, compression, and EQ than other channels.
There are ethernet, USB, and firewire controllers that work in FCPX, but that's not the typical workflow because generally if you're getting into any amount of post audio sweetening beyond basic "staples" audio treatment, you would instead use "Roles" to export your audio to Logic or Pro Tools and do you work in those applications and then cut the final product back into your FCPX project.  In Logic or Pro Tools is where you might use a controller.
In terms of automating levels, I'm not positive I know what you mean.  Compressor is a nice internal Logic plugin that kind of automates levels in a way but its about compressing peaks at a threshold that you set and at a ratio of compression.  So I may not understand what other automation is available unless you've exported you tracks to Logic or Pro Tools.

  • How do i use the stretching tool in soundtrack pro

i have a split track song with muitiple track.got them all loaded in soundtrack pro, when i play the track there are i lot of skips please help big project for fathers day

O.K. so do you need to slow down the music, or speed it up? That's what the stretching tool is for, like in a video scene where the music slows to the tempo the actors are speaking. To use it; you must have an audio file: export multiple tracks by selecting them and choosing Export from the file menu. If you're trying to interlace audio then you should export each track individually and paste them together in an audio file. Next select the audio you want to change then drag the parameters of the selected music: either forwards to delay, or backwards to speed up, just like changing the crop of a photo. Be aware that you can drastically change the audio, trial and error works best, just use Edit>undo till you get it. Also try removing some clicks and pops in analysis.

  • 5.1 monitoring in Soundtrack Pro -- Why Not?

I have Soundtrack Pro 2 and was looking forward to mixing and previewing surround audio. I purchased the Logitech z-5500 and found that it was impossible. After a exhausting web search, I found in an Apple doc:
"The built-in optical hardware output included with some Macs cannot be used for monitoring surround with Logic Pro and Soundtrack Pro, because it requires a surround encoded audio stream, such as that output by a DVD. Neither Logic Pro nor Soundtrack Pro can playback surround encoded audio; they output discrete audio streams that can be encoded later in the authoring process by an application such as Compressor."
Here's why I am confused: Both Compressor AND DVD Studio allow for monitoring of Soundtrack exported files (ac3 AND AIFF surround groups) in Pro Logic (not to be confused with Logic Pro) surround from the TOSLINK output.
MY QUESTION: Why can't Soundtrack Pro allow for similar monitoring? (I know I won't hear the rear channels discreetly, but the Pro Logic output works well enough to mix surround.) I know it would need some rendering, but it would be better than having to export mixes to DVD Studio every 10 minutes.

    Hi.
This is often been discussed. It is like Apple says.
For mixing Surround you need 6 discreet and uncompressed channels! The benefit is you hear the audio like it is in your timeline (uncompressed) and can make changes. The second problem with this is, there are no real time encoders for surround formats. So no audio application out there can create an dolby digital stream from your timeline in realtime. This must be done after the mixing process, at the time when your mix is finished and sounds right.
So if you want to mix in surround with totaly discreet channels then you need an audio interface with so many outputs as the format you mix for will have, for example 6 channels if it is dolby digital 5.1.
