Soundtrack Pro Freezes on Start up

Just started getting this problem where STP will freeze on the intro screen and that's it. So then I have to force-quit and then reopen the app, force quit again, reopen, force quit again then open again and then it works but then upon opening I get an error message:
An Unexpected Problem
NSImageCacheException
Can't cache image
Quit / OK
I did notice that this started happening after (I have a dual monitor set-up) I dragged the Meters from my main (desktop) screen to the 2nd screen where the Mixer lives and docked it in that window. When I did this I got that same "NSImageCacheException Can't cache image" problem message. After this first happened I quit all my apps then restarted my MacPro. It was after this restart (and I will add: PRAM Zap, why not?) that I started getting the STP startup screen freezes.
Anyone knno what's up with this?
more info:
My project cache is the same, located on the drive that my projects live on which is a separate SATA from the boot drive but the STP Edited Media Location IS on the boot drive and it has been there from the start and I've never had any problems with STP till now.
This is pretty urgent as I have a deadline to meet this afternoon. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ok I was able to fix this without having to resort to reinstalling STP.
All I did was trash all my STP preference and cache files and that made it come back to life.
All good now.

  • Soundtrack pro doesn't start

Since a claen install of OSX 10.7.1 and FCP Studio, Soundtrack Pro no longer starts. The start window flashes up for a moment, then it dissappears and nothing happens. All software updates are installed, work around from apple support (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3659?viewlocale=en_US) didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi,
So following the instructions you've tried removing the prefs and then reinstalling the software? If you have then there is something else conflicting your STP.
To resolve this you will need to do the following:
    Open Console
With the Log list shown on the Left, select ALL MESSAGES
    Cmd-K to clear the display
If you are getting messages at this point there is another, possible unrelated issue with your system.
    Startup SoundtrackPro
Go back to Console and select all messages in the message area. Then Cmd-C to put into pasteboard.
Paste it back here and send for me to look at. Anything other than:
    29/08/2011 11:44:56.558 MIDIServer: MIDIServer [34627] starting; arch=x86_64
is a likely problem. You might even be able to diagnose it yourself from this.

You need to back up your data before you do anything else, if it's still possible.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from your recovery partition (10.7 or later), a local Time Machine backup volume (10.7.2 or later), or your installation disc (10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
    2. If you have a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • MacBook Pro freezes during start up and safe boot

MacBook Pro freezes during start up and will not start in safe boot in recovery, it goes back to apple screen with spinning gear

    Stinkster,
does your MacBook Pro have a removable battery? If so, then it originally came with grey installation DVDs. If it doesn’t have a removable battery, look on the bottom of your MacBook Pro for its serial number (it’s etched there in tiny print). If its serial number has eleven characters, write down the last three of them; if it has twelve, write down the last four. Include the three or four characters in your reply; they can determine which model MacBook Pro you have, and the model will determine whether it originally came with grey installation DVDs or not.
If your MacBook Pro did originally come with grey installation DVDs, then you’re going to need to find them (or buy a replacement pair from Apple or iFixit) to reïnstall Mac OS X on your current hard drive, or to install it on a replacement hard drive.

  • FCP Audio Clips in Soundtrack Pro - Marking the Start & End Points

When I double click on an audio clip that I've sent from FCP into Soundtrack Pro I seem to open up the entire media file.
How do I lock off or at least mark the clip start & end?
I don't see any markers that tell me which part of the clip is actually used in the imported FCP sequence.
I only want to make (non-destructive) changes to the clip.
I don't want to alter the original media file.
And I just want to work on the part that's used in the FCP sequence.
It makes sense that there's a way to show the start & end points of the clip but I'm just not seeing it.

I am a bit of a newb here, so pardon if my explanation is a little unpolished, but I have been working on some of my projects like you are and this is what i figured out. I select my sequence in FCP and send to stp as a multitrack project. The whole audio timeline shows up just as it looks in fcp, and the video track shows as one large clip that is made up of all my cuts put together. Now, my audio tracks are all on one line, and i can see all the clips with their cuts on the sequence. I click the first one and open it up to work on in the waveform editor. At that point i see the entire audio clip, including the part before and after my cut that i am using in my sequence, but i also see, up near the playhead, gray markers that show the actual part of the clip i am using in my edit. It is easest to hit shift-z to look at the entire clip on screen, and then find the grey markers. Also, if you play audio before the in marker, you will hear it but you will see that the video is not playing anything, then once you enter into the in-out section the video will play along, and when you pass the out marker the video freezes as the audio keeps playing. Hope this helps.

  • Soundtrack Pro Freeze

    Someone please help me.
    here's my system
    4x2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
    4GB RAM
    Version 10.5.2
    Soundtrack Pro Academic
    Version 1.1
    here's what happens.
i know its mostly coincidence but, every time i open Soundtrack just to "goof around" it starts up and works normally. when i'm working on something with a deadline... it freezes. just a minute ago i got it to open a clip i had sent from FCP to clean up some noise. it started up and loaded in the clip then it started to freeze. what i noticed today was that after i force quit that i no longer have audio in FCP. everything in the timeline will play. the meters show audio, but nothing is coming through the speakers. i searched the forum and say a post from someone with a similar problem. someone else posted a possible solution of installing Pro App Update and they provided a link. I d/l the update but can't install it because the installer says that neither of my volumes are eligible.
i'm at my whits end! i've been compromising my videos by completing them with uncleaned audio and its driving me nuts. i'm having flash backs to my earlier days of working with a beat up POS PC and having to cross my fingers every time i turned the stupid thing on.

I had a similar problem. Soundtrack Pro 1.1 would function just fine, until I tried to play any audio. Then it would freeze. I also noticed that there would be a slight "buzz" in my headphones whenever Soundtrack was open. Nothing I tried worked, until I popped open Soundtrack's preferences, and under the 'General' tab under 'Start Up,' I unchecked "Switch Hardware Sample Rate to Match Document."
This immediately solved the problem! Audio plays just fine, no more buzz and no more freezing! Maybe this will work for you?

  • URGENT-  I need help: Soundtrack Pro Freezing Problem!!

I just sent my FCP project to a multitrack project in Soundtrack Pro, but when i want to work on the Soundtrack Pro project, everything keeps freezing. its dead slow!
i can barely do anything with it!
whats the problem? and how can i solve it?

Couple of possibilities. One, your media files are huge. STP reference the entire media of a clip edited in FCP . . . not just the edited portion. That can result in some large files being brought over. Also, when you send a clip over, use the base layer option if you can, or export an mp4 to bring in to STP.
If you're ready to do the post audio work on a finished FCP project, export an omf file. Close FCP, then open the omf file in STP. That can help.
Other "obvious" but still good to review considerations . . . have enough RAM? Is there enough disk space? Are you using a different media drive than where the system is located?

My MacBook Pro is experiencing the same problem. I did find something to stop the freezes though... as soon as the screen is loaded, I disable Airport.... and wait at least 2-3 minutes before reenabling it. Not sure why it works but it does for me.
My problems also started after downloading this update.

  • Macbook pro freeze at start up

After putting in the latest security update for OS10.8 my macbook freezes once the desktop appears.  Have to force shutdown to get out.  can't open any windows or applications.  I see dropbox in perpetual update.

    AllenJP,
try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does your MacBook Pro still freeze when starting up in normal mode?

  • Soundtrack Pro freezing with plugins issue

When I try to open Soundtrack Pro it freezes whilst trying to load the plug ins on one plugin in particular. Yet when I open Logic it has no problems with this plugin.
Is there any key I can hold down to prevent Soundtrack Pro scanning my plugin folder?
I've opened Logic's audio unit manager and disabled the offending plugins, but this doesn't seem to have changed anything as Soundtrack Pro still freezes when it scans the same plugins. I've also reinstalled Soundtrack Pro, but the problem still occurs.
    Any ideas?

Here are a few places to check:

    STP preferences for recording
The System Preferences for audio in and out
and then the app: Audio Midi Setup

  • Mac Pro freezing at start up, not sure if problem is hardware or software

A week ago my Mac Pro began freezing at start up. I push the power button, the tone goes off, but start up never makes it past the gray screen with the spinning gear.
I have two HDs in my computer, one for Mac OS and the other for Windows. Neither drive successfully loads the OS. When I try and boot under Windows it similarly freezes before account login.
I have tried reinstalling both Mac and Windows OS several times, but encounter the same problem each time.
Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Soundtrack Pro freezes on save and export after upgrading to 10.6

After an eternity, I knew it was time to upgrade my OS. I did so about a week ago. This week, I went to use Soundtrack Pro. It opens, and seems to function normally, but when I click either save or export, the glorious rainbow deathwheel appears. I don't know that this is directly related to the upgrade, but that's the only thing I've done that I think could have affected it.
I'm thinking of pulling another upgrade, but with it not working at present, I'm doubtful that an upgrade could "fix" anything that a previous upgrade broke.
Any idea what I can do?
    Thanks.

Same problem (with Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1).  Attempting to export to MP3.  Did it successfully as recently as a week ago.  Don't recall any major update in the OS since then.  Followed the guidelines above with no success because (according to my computer) the .pkg file downloaded from Apple seems to be corrupted.  Any guidance?
    Thanks!

  • Soundtrack Pro won't start

I have been using Soundtrack Pro successfully for many months. I tried to load the program today and it won't load past the Soundtrack Pro center banner. I tried trashing soundtrackpro.plist in preferences with no success. After that I created a new user account and under that account, Soundtrack Pro loaded with no problem. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can correct my main user account so that Soundtrack Pro will load correctly? Thanks for any assistance.
