Soundtrack Pro import AIFF files Work Around

I saved my AIFF Apple audio files from the earlier version of Soundtrack Pro. I dragged an AIFF into Favorites in the Browser lower right side of UI, worked with it, and "Saved As" send to Desktop and it works.
It won't let you export, but you can bring it into Final Cut from the desktop, by Selecting File & Import.

The goal is to make the files accessible to an Avid Media Composer. Turns out that the only format the MC will import is 44.1K AIFF. It doesn't know what to do with Apple lossless. Maybe it can work with WAVs -- I didn't try that. (And you can't drag and drop to import...)
So what I'm doing is using Libra to point iTunes to a library on a firewire drive, and then importing the CDs as AIFFs. This seems to work.
I will then bring the firewire drive to my place of work and import the files into iTunes on the Mac there.
The only question I have now is whether I needed Libra. What happens when you tell iTunes to change the location of the library? Does it read in an existing library and index it, or do you have to re-import?
Thanks to both of you for your help--
Steve

  • Adobe Pro Import MXF Files Corrupt

I downloaded the demo of CS 6 to see if it could work into our pipeline, which is based around Avid Media Composer. I consolidated my sequence into an AAF then used Pro Import to make Reference files to work off of. Was working beautifully until I did a test render, now all the ref files are corrupt and will not read. They will not open even in QuickTime. Any solutions? If I cannot get this to reliably work I cannot justify this as an expense. I see many operators having the same issues with Pro Import, is this feature just not ready for heavy use?

  • Help!  I imported aiff files!

I just got a brand new shiny Ipod nano and went to import my existing playlists in Itunes. However, all/most of my music in Itunes is in aiff format (I had to convert them from MP3s for editing in Final Cut Pro). I completely forgot they were all aiff files and imported about 100 songs onto my Ipod and they've taken up more than 3 gigs of my Ipod hard drive(because aiff files are so huge) I've gotten to work making duplicates of all my music in MP3 format, however, my question is, how do I replace the existing songs on my Ipod with MP3 versions of the same songs? Hmmmmm?
    Let me know,
    Sanks!
    kt

Hey! Good news. I went through Itunes and converted all my songs back to mp3 (I kept the aiff copies as well, just in another place on my computer). The good news is, once I completed converting them all, and plugged in my Ipod, it automatically reconnected the files with the MP3 files. I didn't need to export and re-import everything.
    Yay!
    Thanks,

  • Bundle export/import questions and work arounds

    Hello,
I've begun to use bundles to migrate components from our test server to our production server. Bundles are a great feature which i missed the last time i worked with N1SPS a few years back. But i've found a few things that i had to work around.
    1. It would be very nice to be able to set version to something like "latest" in the bundle, so i always get the latest version of all components when i do an export.
    2. The bundle should be able to export in a certain order, first folder then components, then containers and lastly plans. Today i have to add everything to the bundle in this order or change the XML-file in the jar afterwards. A function to change the order in the bundle would also help.
    3. Then the bundle is imported the container reefers to components of version 1.1 for some reason (in this case a directory), but it will import that component to version 1.0? I had to change the version reference in the XML to get this to work.
Any workaround or is it all RFE:s and bugfixes?
    Regards
    Henrik

Thank you for your fast reply. Is (1) something that could be object for a RFE? I think it's a common work flow to export the latest versions from a development server to a production server.

  • Logic pro and soundtrack pro round trip not working right?

Hi I am using soundtrack pro as a round trip from logic pro do reduces some background noise in some audio files. This was working great. Now I know with the noise reduction I just have to save the file and it updates in logic. But sometimes I was putting compression on the audio file after the noise reduction as well in soundtrack pro, I then I hit render to selection as the compression was a real time effect. After that I hit save and closed and it updated in logic. This all worked fine until today. Now just doing the noise reduction and saving all works fine. But if I put any real time effects on and do the render to selection, sound track pro just closes itself straight after it has done the render to selection and therefore I lose my work I have done on it and it doesnt update the logic project as it was saved.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks!

Just checked it out thanks, but this wont help me on this one. Where I may have put real time effects on like eq or compression I then need to render to action, after that I could flatten audio. But what is happening is that when I have put real time effects on then go to render to action (so them effects now become part of the action list) once its done the render to action it just shuts it self straight away, before I even get a chance to save it. But thanks for the guess, actually showed me something I didn't know anyway, so learnt something!! Thanks.
Thinking I might try uninstalling and installing again see if that solves it?

  • Why Do The Latest Versions Of Soundtrack and Soundtrack Pro Use .caf Files?

About 3 years ago Soundtrack and Soundtrack Pro started using .caf files instead of .aif ones.
The .caf files appear to take up more space than .aif and of course need rendering before they can be used in FCE/FCP.
So what is the logic behind their use?
I would add that I have skimmed through several articles which claim they have advantages ..... which I can't understand.
I only know that when used normally in FCE/FCP they seem to me a backward step, requiring rendering - almost like using .mp3 but without the space-saving features.

    Here's a link from Apple:
    http://developer.apple.com/DOCUMENTATION/MusicAudio/Reference/CAFSpec/CAFoverview/CAFoverview.html
It touts "unrestricted file size" as one advantage of CAFs. Has any of us ever exceeded the supposed 4GB limit of AIF files?? This is from the page linked above:
"Whereas AIFF, AIFF-C, and WAV files are limited in size to 4 gigabytes, which might represent as little as 15 minutes of audio, CAF files use 64-bit file offsets, eliminating practical limits. A standard CAF file can hold audio data with a playback duration of hundreds of years."

  • Does Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1 work with Mountain Lion?

    Hi there,
I purchased my iMac (Lion 2.7 GHz i5) and Logic Studio Pro 9 at the same time, everything installed fine but Soundtrack Pro did not open with Lion.
Since updated to Mountain Lion and obviously still not working.
Is there anything I can do to get this working as it might be usefull in the future?
Should I try reinstalling Soundtrack Pro or the full Logic Studio?
    Many thanks,
    Karl.

My STP seems to be working ok in Mountain lion yeah, although I've not actually used it properly yet, but it stays open at least. I think you're right about compressor aswell.
Do you know if I'll need compressor at some point after using soundtrack? Or are there other ways around it?
    Karl.
    hi Karl:
here's my follow up to your question "Do you know if I'll need compressor at some point after using soundtrack?"  i'm not sure, since i don't really know what you'll be doing on your projects w/ LogicPro.  but here's my suggestion which help you gain some insight.
go to support.apple.com/manuals/   ...find the .pdf manual for "Compressor 4" latest should be Jun2012.  might be about 6MB.  just read thru & see what features it does, & how certain steps can help you in your project.  this ought to help you foresee if you'll need Compressor or just want it, in the future.  Chap 12 seems to discussing Dolby digital professional outputs, Surrouand sound, & spatial mxing.
    good luck,

  • I can't import aiff files into itunes as mp3s

I am trying to add some aiff files from an external hard drive to my itunes library. My import settings have mp3 checked under the advanced preferences and I am using the File>add to library command. When the files show up in my itunes library, they are still aiff files. I can then convert them to mp3 under the advanced tab, but I shouldn't have to go through this extra step. Is there a way to change this?

No. If you add MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, AIFF or WAV, iTunes will simply add them to the library.
In order to convert them, you have to do it after you add them to the library.

  • Can't import AIFF file

I'm trying to convert audio cassettes as per instructions in www.wap.org/journal/digitizingcassettes/default.html. Successfully used Audacity to record song and export an ".aiff" file. But can't get that file into iTunes 7.5 (or earlier version)! Tried dragging file onto iTunes icon, dragging it into open iTunes window, using iTunes->File->Import or Add to Library but nothing happens. Even changed its Info to open under iTunes vice Audacity, but it won't. I must be missing something very basic - have had no problems importing audio CDs (but they wouldn't be aiff).

The "but nothing happens" is normal iTunes behavior when it finds the file to be incompatible.
Can't say for sure, but one thing to check is your Audacity options under Edit > Preferences > File Format. Make sure you are using the most vanilla flavor of AIFF, namely 16 bit PCM. Then look under Quality and make sure you are using 44.1.
If you can't resolve the AIFF issue, consider using Audacity to create a high bit-rate (320) mp3 and import that into iTunes instead. It will sound every bit as good.

  • Unable to import .aiff files

I am attempting to drag and drop .aiff files into garage band, however without success. I even imported into iTunes first and the file plays fine, yet can not get the dragged file to appear in the track. It simply snaps back to the desktop or folder in the drive. I've tried renaming this to .aif but also no luck. Any ideas?

  • Archiving Soundtrack Pro Projects : .stap files

    Hello,
I am fairly new to Soundtrack Pro. I am archiving several projects and I am unsure what to do with the .stap files. Should I keep them or delete them? They are quite large and even larger then the original source WAV files.
    Thanks for any information,
    Mark

As a general rule, always back-up everything. You never know when you're going to need something, even if it's 10 years later…
However, if you can easily re-create these files exactly at any time without much trouble, then +in that case+ you won't really need them.

  • DNG file work-around PrPro/Sg/Pro

So there are the irritations with PrPro not being able to work "natively" with the footage put out by many of the RAW -capable cameras. Yes, having the video equivalent of Adobe Camera Raw in PrPro would be wondrous. However, there is a way that seems to be able to get around this, using PrPro with Sg. I've not tested this but I've seen the comments of those who've done things like this on other forums, and from my knowledge of Sg, suggest this be tried by people as a workable temporary solution until Adobe manages to get ACR into PrPro.
I'd suggest shooting a few seconds of a "normal" contrast scene with a good histogram-filling range of luma tonalities under lighting with a decent color to white-balance to. Also shoot a few seconds of a neutral such as a gray-card or white through black video test card.
    1) Load into ProPr & Direct Link to Sg, or simply create a new project in Sg and bring in the above footage. Work on the base footage, not in a layer.
    2) Using both monitor & scopes, correct the gamma and contrast for an "appropriate" look on both monitor and scopes;
    3) using the neutral scene center the signal on the vectorscope;
    4) save as a LUT or Look with an appropriate title, such as MkV_iiidRAW or whatever so you know what camera that is "built" for.
For future work, you should be able to load footage in PrPro, first thing is Direct Link to Sg, then apply the Look of LUT, back to PrPro for editing, back to Sg for corrections/grading as normal.
Not optimal, but for many it might just work ...

This is in reply to your last paragraph...
This is the Mac OS default Save As... dialog:
Notice that there is a downward pointing disclosure triangle to the right of the Save As: field. If you click on the disclosure triangle, a full Finder window will be exposed, and this will enable you to place downloaded files wherever you like.
Notice, also, that in the bottom left hand corner of the exposed finder window, you are able to create a new folder (in any location on your system) to which you are able to download files.
This works the same way in any Save As situation, using any app, and the app you are in will remember where you last chose to save a file so that repetitive navigation in these dialog boxes is somewhat reduced.

  • Soundtrack Pro corrupting audio files during editing

Using S'trackPro 1.1 on both G5s and Mac Pros, I've experienced a recurring issue when editing long audio files (16bit 48Khz aiffs of 60-120 min durations).
Import files directly in Audio File edit mode, usually apply a limiter and/or normalize and save with new file name. I often find as I move around the waveform to preview results, the playback stops responding accurately, playing the wrong part of the file randomly.
Once saved, the file seems to have random "splurts" of audio appear in inappropriate places throughout. For example, a 2 sec "splurt" from the middle of a 120 min file may appear 10 minutes before the end, seemingly at random.
It's odd that I've experienced this on numerous machines, all with quite different specs.
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    3 x G5 Dual 2Ghx 2.5Gb RAM, Mac Pro Quad 2.66 5Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I actually use the 'save as' function that consolidates all the audio clips and move them onto a separate drive. I'm doing a lot of large projects that have more clips than are actually used. Consolidation means I can move and work on another machine. And in the end it's easier to archive this single directory of files. Works for me, especially because sometimes the audio sources are scattered in too many places on my system.
